Cruise control surging vehicle beyond initial set limit. I recently purchased my 2022 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crewcab from a texas dealership. After driving it for a week or so, I noticed that while the "cruise control" is engaged, any sort of incline ahead of the vehicle will cause the transmission to down shift and rev up the engine to 5k+ rpms which causes the vehicle to surge and speed up way above the set speed (cruise set to 45mph, the consequence is the vehicle will surge up to 60mph at times and then let the vehicle slow back down to the 45mph speed set in the original setting. ) I found that very unsafe and that my Nissan Frontier is not the only one that experiences this behavior. The internet has had a few reports/complaints on this very issue. According to some of these owners, there's a software update to address this issues. However, some dealerships will charge for this software update if your vehicle has gone past the 36k warranty date to the sum of $600 plus out of pocket. Meanwhile without that software update, the vehicle will surge unnecessarily and dangerously above the intended speed set initially. Respectfully, 2022 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crewcab.

When driving on hilly streets with 55 mph speed limit, truck will not maintain 55 mph speed using cruise control. . Traveling up hill, truck drops 5-8 mph before downshifting to lower gear. The downshift is abrupt rather than a smooth. Without cruise control engaged, disengaging overdrive is the only way to maintain speed.

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Frontier. When the cruise control was activated at approximately 50 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle independently decelerated to low speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,170.

The cruise control will not coast down hill without decelerating up to 5 miles below set speed, so 55, if your set at 60, etc. The truck has the small 2. 5 4cyl engine, but it will climb the first hill perfectly fine without missing a beat, just when it starts coming down the backside of the hill you can physically feel a drag like the throttle plate is completely closed. On very hilly terrain it will decelerate down the first hill, and upon reaching the second hill, accelerate sometimes violently (4 to 5k rpm) too catch up with itself. More often then not, I just shut the system off and drive normally too avoid unnecessary wear on the engine and trans, not too mention the loss in fuel economy.

Set cruise control at 55 mph on an interstate highway. When going down a slight hill, speed increases and the cruise control will disengage. At the bottom of the hill, speed drops approximately five (5) miles below set speed before cruise control reengages. I have also tested a 2015 Nissan Frontier with lead mechanic and the same problem occurred. I am concerned about the safety issue. After the dealership ran diagnostics, they saw no problems. Nissan USA is aware of this.
10/2010 ordered a 2011 Nissan Frontier pro-4x ; delivered 11/26/10, 9 miles. Personal commuting and recreation; not commercial duty! only pulled pop-up camper & utility trailers a few times, often smell clutch "burn" after backing up (especially slightly inclined driveway: both max 2k lbs): truck is rated for towing 6k lbs: so limits never exceeded. About 18 months & 14k miles the clutch started slipping when going 65 mph on highway in cruise control, slippage causing cruise control to fall off suddenly. Nissan dealer service manager accused me of drag racing, causing excessive wear and the premature failure! unbelievable! he gave me the benefit of the doubt, & in first 3 yr/36k full warrantee so fixed it free: normally a $1,500 bill. Just passed 33k miles and 3 1/2 years original ownership (8/2014): when I operate/let the clutch out roughness felt in the mechanism; engine rpms rev higher than normal during gear changes; trying to accelerate engine rpms rev higher than normal (up to 1k) and vehicle lacks speed increase response; cruise control drops off at 30, 40, 50 and 65 mph within 30 seconds! smell clutch burn in city traffic. Past 3 year warrantee; still within 5 year drive train warrantee period; so going to take it to a dealer again and see what they say about it. I have 30+ years of driving manual shift vehicles; drive very conservative and smooth; and commercial driver licensed. Seriously disappointed about this Nissan Frontier's clutch situation! two clutches failed within 36k miles and less than 4 yrs off the assembly line; performing normal driving duties! others too. . Cruise control set at 50 mph, and as car started incline, accelerator engaged abruptly and rpm increased to maximum. Multiple attempts to brake and regain control of vehicle. Truck went off road on curve and head on collision with tree occurred. Driver had both feet on brake, yet was unsuccessful in slowing vehicle.

6- days after buying a brand new 2008 Nissan Frontier 2wd/se crew cab the cruise control would not stay on . On the day I went to take it back to the dealer the truck would not start, I had it towed back to the dealer where they worked on it for a week. They stated that sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't ,they said they had to call the Nissan tech line that instructed them to check several different things but it still would not start so the tech line told them to replace the -"ipdm e/r". They said the truck was then fixed and to pick it up. I picked up the truck and went approximately 2-miles to a store and when I came back out the truck would not start again,I had it towed back to the Nissan dealer again. This time they worked on it for 6-days and they said --"checked wiring going into ipdm box, found when wiggling wires they could here a click and then the vehicle would crank ,they unplugged wiring and traced wire back into main engine harness, found wire was spliced to itself and had a loose connection, repaired wiring and confirmed operation, programmed all keys together, cleared all codes, cleared self learning control, relearned idle air volume and recalibrated steering angle sensor". They had me pick up the truck again on 9/10/08 and so far it is ok.

Cruise control would not disengage. I had to turn it off using the rocker switch. When I turned it back on and tried to re-engage the cruise control the green cruise light pulsed made like a buzzing noise but did not engage. This only happens about once a month.

I have a 2004 Nissan Frontier crew cab. The normal crusing rpm is around 2300 on the highway. On the initial date of 6/25/2004, I began to note that when the vehicle was operating on cruise control, during a downshift into a passing gear, such as climbing a grade, the motor increases to 3500 rpms. Upon leveling off, the cruise control does not allow the motor to reduce the rpm's back down to crusiing level of 23-2500 rpm. I find myself having to brake or cut off the cruise control to reduce the rpm back to normal. The Nissan dealer in asheville north carolina has had this truck on 7/1/04, 7/28/04, and 8/11/04 attempting to fix this problem with no success. The last occasion, they kept the vehicle for over two weeks with no luck. On 9/8/04, the service manager advised me that the problem was a bad code that Nissan engineering would have to resolve and he would notify me. Seven months later I've heard nothing so I inquired today while my truck was being serviced. He advised that there is still no fix and he has a list of six customers with the same problem/complaint. The acs control module was replaced as well as the actuator and a relay with no success.

While driving on highway, according to specifications, vehicle is suppose to idle at 750 rpms plus or minus 50. Most of the time it will idle at 1100 - 1900 rpms. When consumer let off the gas pedal. It will not slow down, but it will speed up which can cause an accident. Contacted dealer and they said all vehicles do this because of the new polution control. .

Contacted Nissan consumer affairs - their reply was bedford Nissan and techline determine vehicle is operating normally. My concern about idle is not due to any defect in the way vehicle was built - this condition is normal and characteristic of vehicle. I am unsatisfield with this response - several trips to the dealer have not solved this problem. 1500 rpm's in third gear is 25 mph and in fourth gear it is 30 mph. Rpm's will not drop off until transmission is put in neutral. Nissan does not recognize this as a problem.
