1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

When driving, the collision sign randomly comes on. It causes the the vehicle to rev and there's a lag in picking up speed. There are times when the vehicle is "stuck" while waiting on a left turn and it screeches and jolts when I press on the gas to move forward before it actually moves.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

The truck is jerky during low speed take offs. It also died off during acceleration and then surged all of a sudden recently. It is now in the repair shop being diagnosed for an electric transmission control warning light. It would not start.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/17/2024

Engine light came on, and vehicle accelerated, then lost acceleration while revolutions increased. Diagnosis indicates bad tcm. I went to 3 shops, and all said that the tcm are going bad, especially infinity. Nissan wants to charge $500 just to try to reset it. The dealership is the only ones that can perform this task.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/28/2024

The Nissan Frontier (and perhaps other Nissan vehicles employing the same system) equipped with the 'intelligent cruise control' (icc) exhibits dangerous behavior when a followed vehicle comes to a complete stop with icc enabled. When this occurs, the Nissan will come to a complete stop, then a warning chime will sound and the vehicle will immediately start moving quickly forward. Since the icc brings the vehicle to a stop very close to the followed vehicle, if the driver is thinking the icc will hold the vehicle in a stationary position, it is possible that this behavior could result in the Nissan rear-ending the followed vehicle. This is the result of a flaw in the design of the Nissan intelligent cruise control that releases the brake with little warning when the traffic in front of the vehicle is stopped. A proper design would hold the brake until some manual driver action is taken such as physically pressing the accelerator or the brake. My personal experience was that I was on an interstate freeway in very slow traffic. This was the first time I had the icc enabled in slow and go traffic. It was working fine and, when the traffic came to a complete stop, it properly stopped behind the vehicle in front of me. Then, to my shock, my Nissan beeped and started to accelerate forward nearly rear-ending the vehicle in front of me. Luckily, I was able to press the brake in time to avoid a collision, but this is a flawed design and represents an unnecessary danger to the Nissan as well as followed vehicles.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

This first appeared on or about 7/2/24. Saw dealership on 7/9/2024. First driving the cruise control failed and showed malfunction. The next morning truck started but numerous things didn’t work like radio and rear emergency braking. Rear braking was a malfunction. Also trip a/b were erased. On 7/9/24. Dealer found some previous codes and said might be due to storage switch issue. But the codes seem to point at a distant sensor but stated it could have happened due to low battery volts. Now on may 29th I requested the battery to be load tested because the a/b trip meters had reset twice. Never saw the results of that test. Back in early may I put the battery on the charger due to it showing lower voltage. Battery was at 50 percent at time of charge. Truck sat on lot from Aug 23 till March 27-24 when I purchased it. Sorry about going backwards. So dealer stated on July 9th that codes found were old (3556 miles) cleared and drove truck 3 miles with no problems. On 7/11 failed again reported it to dealership. On 7/14 failed again. All failures were with forward collision system. On 7/16 dealer said no codes drove truck no issues so they wouldn’t do anything else , even though it’s a possible safety issue even though I had documented pictures and text messages sent to dealer. They needed it to happen when they drove it. 30 mins later driving home malfunctioned again called dealership immediately on the side of the freeway to report this issue again. Response was a number for a tow truck and it didn’t matter because they weren’t driving the truck. This resets every time the truck is turned off. I explained numerous times that it’s intermittent, that’s the issue and why I have everything documented. So as for now I have a system that malfunctions with cruise control on or not. Truck has 4000 miles on it. Dealer won’t do anything due to it won’t malfunction in their procession. Currently at a loss.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

The cruise control on the vehicle is dangerous. When driving through rolling hills the vehicle does not keep a consistent speed. When it loses speed it puts the vehicle in overdrive accelerates to 4500 rpm to speed the vehicle up to the cruise setting. The danger is while on back roads while cresting a hill or rounding a curve the vehicle feels totally out of control. The problem is not limited to back roads, it also occurs while driving the interstate highway. The only way to stop the vehicle during this process is to cancel the cruise control. The acceleration is so violent that it pushing you back in your seat and your head is pushed into the headrest. Ive been on Frontier forums and many people have experienced the same condition. Seems to lie in the newer 9 speed transmission trucks. Seems Nissan does not acknowledge the problem. Needs a firmware update.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Climbing a hill the cruise control goes crazy and the rpms suddenly exceed 5000+. Scared the hell out of me and could certainly be dangerous especially on rainy roads. . Read more...

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/05/2024

When vehicle in cruise control going anywhere 55 to 70 mph. Coming to slight grade hill, the vehicle down shift so hard from 9 gear to 4th gear and the rpm goes almost to 6000. There was some waters running over the road and almost causes me to lose control. I have complaint to the orr dealer in ft. Smith from the beginning and they said nothing wrong. It been a problem since I brought it new.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/08/2023

I do not know what caused this to happen. There were no warning lights or messages. Prior to this incident the transmission would rev/speed up on its own for a few seconds (I don't know if this is relevant). Salesperson told me about this and said it was nothing to worry about. The vehicle is equipped with a sensor that brakes if you come to close to an object. This sensor has definitely worked in the past. I was backing up down a long driveway, approximately 50 yards. When I took my foot off of the gas pedal, it did not slow down. Instead it sped up and was uncontrollable. I looked down to make sure my foot was on the brake which it was. I then used both feet to push down on the brake but that did not work either. The vehicle did not stop until it ran into a building. If somebody would have been behind me they would have died or been seriously injured. If the building would not have been there, I might have died or been seriously injured due to the vehicle accelerating at a high speed on its own and the brakes failing to stop the vehicle. This incident happened yesterday so it has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or inspected by the manufacturer or insurance. It happened on private property and will not be inspected by the police.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

Easily repeatable issue. When at highway speeds adaptive cruise control detects a slower vehicle in my lane. My Frontier slows as expected. When the necessary lane change is made, my engine will suddenly accelerate rapidly until it reaches about 6000 rpms. This also will occur when climbing a moderately steep hill in either cruise mode. This is a safety hazard in that it is extremely distracting, because you have to divert your attention to cancel the out-of-control cruise control manually with the cancel button or brake pedal. I have contacted Nissan customer service, as well as had two dealer service calls. They both said that they could not duplicate the issue. According to the in and out milage they didn't drive it. They did say that Nissan is working on this issue.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/18/2023

The vehicle has significant lag when trying trying to accelerate quickly. It also surges wildly on occasion when cruise control is engaged. It has happened both on slight inclines and when cornering. Both of these events are outside of operator control and could cause an accident. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer and there are no warning indicators. The vehicle is available for inspection. It seems like there may be a programming issue in regards to the electronic throttle, speed sensors, and transmission.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that when applying the accelerator pedal, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped forward. There were no warning lights illuminated. While leaving a store and entering traffic, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into an unknown vehicle, which spun and crashed into another unknown vehicle. The driver was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene. The driver sustained a concussion but did not seek medical attention. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The local dealer was contacted prior to the crash. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 4,500.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

Dealer preformed ntb22-084 due to abs lights. Since this TSB was preformed the icc fails to brake the vehicle when it is approaching another car. Current stored dtc is c1a13-72. When the Frontier needs to brake automatically to maintain distance from the car ahead, the dash gets the following warning messages. Rear automatic braking system fault see owners manual, automatic emergency braking system fault see owners manual, cruise control malfunction. During this fault the following systems are disabled: vehicle to vehicle distance control conventional cruise control automatic emergency braking intelligent forward collision warning rear automatic braking this creates an unsafe driving condition which may lead to a collision.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/31/2022

Yes it’s available for inspection. Sudden increase in speed under certain condition could be a safety issue. This problem has been identified by another owner and taken to Nissan (apple) york, PA. The problem happened after leaving the Nissan lot on the way home, less than 200 miles. During use of intelligence cruse control, set at 70 mph, came up on a vehicle doing 60 mph and the system slowed my vehicle down to 60 mph, when I was able to move into the passing lane my vehicle down shifted hard going to 6,000 rpm’s, my truck surged in mph until it caught up with the set speed. The amount of down shift is excessively too much, this happens on small hills and the rpm’s go to around 4,500 rpm’s.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/21/2022

8/21/2022 while driving on ih 30 eastbound during a heavy rain storm the adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, anti-lock brakes and traction control light came on. The loss of the anti-lock brakes and traction control systems make driving this Nissan truck hazardous as braking distance is now increased during in-climate weather and traction control loss on a truck which is already light in the rear unsafe as any accumulation of water on the roadway will decrease traction increasing likelihood of a spin out of this truck more likely to occur. Adaptive cruise control and lane departure systems may be optical and heavy rains may render them inoperable. This shouldn't effect the anti-lock brakes and traction control systems for this truck. When I google the symptoms others have posted that this is a common occurence for the 2022 Nissan Frontier sv model.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/04/2022

I had an accident , last night 08/04/2022 I was parked an upper hill and out of no were my truck blast up w speed and went forward at full speed I couldn’t control it I try braking and the brakes weren’t working my foot was literally all the way forward. The steering wheel got really hard couldn’t control it . Unfortunately I end up crashing and hitting an innocent man performing his job my truck stopped and crushed the poor man into his truck … not even the air bags or sensors turn on they failed , it’s like if something took over my truck . I recently purchased this truck about a month ago and some sensors kept coming up out of no were but then they would disappear I don’t know if was an electrical problem. But this car caused a accident .

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/09/2021

1. Drivers power seat back changes position, seemingly by itself overnight. Dealer says it's a known "engineering issue. " service personnel said a fix is coming but not sure when. Some people think that those affected are accidentally hitting the power seat switches but I have doubts about that. It's an ongoing problem, on and off, since purchasing vehicle 11-9-21. 2. Cruise control is not smooth at all. The truck may lose two mph then the engine may shift down a bunch of gears and the engine needlessly races too much in getting back to speed. It's the worse cruise control I've ever experienced in my life. I reported this to the dealer and they noted it. Nothing was done to correct the problem which has been ongoing since purchasing vehicle 11-9-21.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/16/2021

The speed control sensor is located in the rear driveshaft passenger side. During a left turn at less than 30-miles and less than 600-miles in the odometer, the speed sensor failed to cause the abs system, tire pressure, and other sensors to fail as well. The dealer technician determined the rear driveshaft was either damaged at the assembly line or had a defective speed sensor from the factory. There were no other warnings, messages, or symptoms prior to this failure.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/20/2021

This vehicle suddenly starts to accelerate on its own like it's in cruise control only it's not and I'm not pressing the gas pedal. It would go well only a 100 if I let it and applying the brakes does nothing. The only way of stopping the vehicle is to put it in neutral and one time that didn't stop it and I had to put it in park and turn off the key. I've taken the vehicle to 3 different garages and they are not able to figure out what the issue is. I've contacted Nissan and they have no recalls of this. I finally looked online and saw that other people have been in accidents because of the same problem. This vehicle is deadly to drive and I'm a professional driver so luckily I knew what to do when this happens. I am not able to drive truck safely and I'm not able to sell it or even give this to anyon because I would be responsible when they kill someone from the mechanical failures. I bought the truck for my teenage son and obviously he can't drive it.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/26/2020

From a stand still, when accelerating to enter into traffic. Depressing the accelerator, the truck only moves into traffic but then the truck fails to accelerate. There is a flat spot. No acceleration at times. I have to "pedal" the accelerator to try to get the truck to move. Meanwhile I am stuck with traffic rapidly approaching because I cannot get out of the way. This problem happens intermittently and always at the worst time like when trying to enter onto a highway. I have had near collisions twice due to this problem. Nissan dealer has found nothing. They cannot reproduce the problem when I take it to them.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/25/2020

The vehicle would randomly stall while driving, particularly when slowing for a traffic signal. The engine stopping would cause all power assisted functions to cease making it difficult to steer and brake. Most recently the vehicle would start extreme hesitation while driving and I could not get up to the posted speed limit of 55 mph. I had to use my flashers to warn other drivers that my speed was only approximately 35 mph. Also the transmission had difficulty shifting. This was extremely dangerous on a 2 lane highway where vehicles rapidly approached from the rear. It wouldn't negotiate a large hii (lack of power) and I had to have it towed to my home. Receipt below.

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Frontier. While reversing out of a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated on its own. Also, while at a stop with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but no failure code was found. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

While driving on the highway on 7/13/2019 I felt my truck jerking/tugging which has never happened before. On 7/14/2019 the 'service engine' light came on and the jerking was more noticeable, I made an appointment with the local Nissan dealer for service on 7/16/2019 and I was told that there is coolant mixed in with the transmission and the tcm eventually fried since it is housed inside the transmission, apparently the transmission cooling hoses route to the radiator and the only remedy is to replace the transmission and the radiator. I searched online and found that I am not the only one that this has happened to. The problem.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

Thursday morning September 20th 2018 during rush hour, wife's 2012 Nissan Frontier sv v6 suddenly lost speed control while driving on houston beltway 8 - a multi-lane toll road where traffic is at around 70 mph. Tapping the gas pedal was not able to change or maintain the vehicle speed. As a result, vehicle went from 70 mph to a complete stop on the highway. The truck can be restarted after sitting for a few minutes though.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/05/2018

The throttle control, foot pedal, has dead spots that happen when leaving a stop sign, green lights, pulling out into traffic. Also climbing a hill when you step on the gas nothing happens until the transmission kicks down then you go to fast. This happens occasionally. It is better if you turn of the overdrive did it still happens. I have had it back to the dealer 3 times. Dealer reprogrammed the transmission, reprogrammed the throttle body and then replaced the throttle body. When I pull out into traffic I do not know if the truck is going to move or not. Sometime there is about a second delay until it catches and then sometimes it chirps the tires. I have just over 1000 miles on this truck and do not feel safe. This is my forth Nissan Frontier, I never experienced any fear in driving the other truck. I believe it and any others with this problem should be recalled or the trucks replaced. This is an ongoing problem since I bought the truck.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

After 2 and a half months of fighting with Nissan consumer affairs, Nissan has basically told me they do not care about me or the other people affected by this issue or their safety. As sad as it sounds its going to take someone getting killed because of this issue before they open their eyes.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

While driving my 2006 Nissan Frontier the truck would not respond to the accelerator being pressed and then began jerking. The check engine light came on and it has been doing this for a couple of days. I took it to my mechanic and he said is was the radiator leaking into the transmission and destroying the transmission which Nissan knows about the defct but has chosen not to fix. If I was traveling at a high speed on the interstate and the truck did not respond to the accelerator and started to jerk a collision would have happened. The fact that Nissan knew about this defect and chose not to inform me of the problem causes considerable alarm.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

I was driving my truck as normal when I heard a chatter from the gear shift. . I lost all power in the low gears and it would take 45 seconds to get to 60 mph. I drove it a short way like that and the check engine light came on. I parked my truck for a few hours an when I went to drive it back home the problem seemed to be fixed and was driving normal. I started my drive home and after 50 miles I could smell something burning so I started to get over to the side of the road. At that point I lost all power and the truck was dead. It would not start and I had to call for a tow truck to get my family and I home. I was watching the temperature and oil pressure gauges on the dash and they were normal so it was a surprise to me when I took it to the mechanic and he told me the problem happened because the lower part of the radiator that cools the transmission cracked leaking radiator fluid into the transmission. This caused all the parts to swell up causing the computer to burn up, sensors to fail. I spent over $4000 on parts and labor to get this fixed. That included a rebuild kit, band, piston, exchange rebuilt torque converter, new valve assembly, radiator, radiator cap, front pump bushing, crank sensor, revolution sensor, and all the labor. There were known issues of this exact problem and earlier models up to 2010. There was a class action lawsuit about it. Well the problem is still there on the 2011 model. I should be reimbursed for all my cost since Nissan knew about this issue and still made a inferior product the following year. They did nothing to address this engineering flaw even though they had complete knowledge of the problem. This could of been avoided by having a separate transmission cooler . Nissan was negligent for letting this design go to market when they already knew it was an issue. It should of been resolved on the 2011 but it wasn't,.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

Entering 4 lane highway with 70 mph traffic. Kicked Frontier into passing gear to enter ongoing traffic. Frontier stalled and slowed instead of increasing speed. Transmission slippage and jerking caused motor to increase rpms. I had to move my truck over to right of paved lane and onto pulloff area in order to prevent accident. I was told at the Nissan dealership that I had transmission damage due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission . It cost me $2500 to repair a problem that could have cost lives. I understand this was a problem that was not recalled by Nissan.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/12/2016

Timing chain on 2005 Nissan Frontier. The engine makes a loud whining noise due to the chain contact. When the vehicle is stationary or motion it make the noise. When the vehicle in motion it changes gears at a higher rpm. I have sensors that were operable because of the timing chain issue.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/25/2016
