1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

The transmission when towing 2000 lbs of weight or greater will lock into third gear when the rpm exceeds 4000 rpm. The rpm will stay constant at 4000 rpm with your foot off the pedal and will not drop out of gear unless the overdrive button it disengaged. This problem was replicated with the tech and service manager in my vehicle and a like in kind 2019 Nissan Frontier . The vehicle engine is racing with your foot off the pedal for all intense and purpose driving itself. Nissan consumer affairs indicated that because the problem was replicated in another vehicle they refuse to address the problem. Unbel.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/05/2017

Bought a 2006 Frontier a year ago, I was unaware of the major defect they were having with the radiator cracking and mixing coolant with tranny fluid. Now my transmission is shot with no warning and I'll be out 4/5k !! it went out as I was trying to turn left and on coming traffic was coming at me. I could not accelerate as obviously without a transmission your car wont go into gear, just a sitting duck with oncoming traffic baring down. Thankfully the people speeding towards me seen me before I was smashed into and possibly killed.

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/14/2016

Transmission will not go into gear due to coolant leaking into transmission. It is a manufacturer defect that Nissan has known about, but refuses to fix. They do not tell the buyer of the looming catastrophic failure, and continued to manufacture the vehicles for several more years even after discovering the problem, probably because it fails after the warranty is up. I now have a truck that I bought just a little over a year ago for $17000 that will not move. The cost to fix the problem can range anywhere from $4000 to $10000 depending on how much damage was caused by the defect. If it were to have been in a wreck and that much money in body damage would have occurred it would be totaled. How ever since it is a mechanical issue I am stuck paying $360 a month for a useless vehicle, that even if I could afford to get it fixed, I would be putting way more money into it than it is worth. When I purchased it from the Nissan dealership it had an as is no warranty tag in the window, but that was not true. Nissan had a warranty for that specific problem, but the dealership did not tell me. When I called and asked the service department, the service writer pretended not to know anything about it until I started grilling him about it. He then admitted it was a big problem in 3 of their vehicles, then told me it wasn't his problem, it was sales problem and transferred me to them. I talked to the manager, he said that the extended warranty Nissan offered, the one they neglected to mention, expired the month before my transmission failed, and even then I would have been out $2500 for a known defect that they continued to put in the vehicles for several more years. I was lucky it failed in a parking lot and not when I was pulling out into traffic where I could have been hit by another car and injured or killed! this problem is not the consumers fault, it is Nissans!.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. While driving, the vehicle was not able to shift gears and the gears were stuck occasionally. In addition, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 97,668.

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

On my truck I experienced a sudden loss in power and throttle response while driving without warning, as the transmission failed to shift gears properly. After spending $100 for a diagnostic from a mechanic it was found that my transmission cooler reservoir is leaking in my radiator and caused cross contamination between my antifreeze and atf. The antifreeze is getting into my transmission and boiling once the transmission reaches operating temperatures. The antifreeze vapor is then causing the transmission clutches and bands to not be able to engage correctly, and therefore not being able to shift up and down through the gears properly. I just about got hit trying to turn left out onto the road in front of cross traffic. I avoided an accident, but this happened with no warning. This fix is going to cost me anywhere from $500 to $5,000 to fix depending on the extent of the damage the antifreeze in my transmission caused. I just read that a few years ago Nissan extended the warranty due to this, and I am past that point, but this is still unacceptable at only 102,000 miles. Nissan should have recalled this and fixed it when it was just a couple hundred dollars for a new radiator years ago. Lastly, my truck without issues was worth nearly $8k in its condition, now i¿ll have trouble getting a dealer to pay anything in trade-in value if I choose to not fix the truck.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/24/2013

Last time I changed my oil about a month ago, they were confused at why I had oil in my radiator. They said it was not a good sign! yesterday when I was driving to work, my truck had no power and it eventurally stopped moving in the road. The truck was running, but would not engage in a gear and move forward. I had it taken to a local shop to look it over and after a test drive and looking at the transmission and radiator fluids, they said I had a cross contamiation of the two systems and it caused the problem. They called the Nissan dealer and they said this is a common problem and they have a law suit I can join to get reimbursed for the expense of replacing the cvt. (continousuly variable transmissoin) it will cost about $4,200. I looked online and it looks like Nissan also has at cvt replacement program. I wish I would have known about this so I could have had it replaced and not put in danger.

8 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

I was making a left turn across traffic in my 2006 Nissan Frontier when I lost all forward momentum in the middle of the intersection. The truck felt like it was in neutral and would not go into gear. I was stuck in the middle of the intersection blocking traffic for about 15 seconds while cars honked and went around me. After about 15 seconds the check engine light came on and it jerked into gear. I had the code check and they said it was a fault in the transmission. I did some research and found out about the faulty radiator problem that could allow coolant into transmission. I checked my coolant for signs and sure enough I had grey sludge floating all in my coolant which is a sign of cross contamination. I called a local aamco (transmission mechanic) to ask him about it and he knew all about the issue and said he rebuilds at least one Nissan transmission a week due to coolant destroying the transmission. He recommended that I bypass the radiator cooler right away and change the transmission fluid in order to reduce damage. He said that since it has already shown since of contamination that it was just a matter of time it failed again and for good. He said a rebuild would cost between $3k & $4k, which is something I cannot afford. I am scared every time I have to cross traffic that it will fail and I will be in a serious accident. Why would Nissan ignore fixing this issue while it was minor and allow its customers the possibility of being in a serious accident much less making them pay thousands of dollars that many do not have to fix a safety issue.

9 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2010 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Noticed e-brake no longer holding. Took to local shop. Told me need new e-brake pads and rear axle bearings, seals. Apparently bearing seals failed and gear oil saturated brake pads. Took to dealer to fix bearings and seals under warranty (though they charged me for the brake pad replacement that was a direct result). A little online search reveals the bearing problem common on Frontiers, a result of improper axle venting. Apparently there was a retrofit part that Nissan sold to address this that has since been pulled from the parts offering.

10 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Both left and right axles seals failed causing gear oil to saturate the rear disc brake pads, rotor and emergency brake shoes. Extreme decreased braking, which could have led to an accident. This is a true safety problem, which seems to be quite common with the Frontier and titan pick-ups.

11 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

My Nissan 2005 Frontier has a transmission problem where the radiator is leaking coolant in the transmission. This has caused the vehicle to not change gears properly and is a danger as it does not accelerate as it should.

12 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving down the road the truck shudders and shakes and cannot shift into gear. I had no pick up while driving on the interstate and had cars speeding by me at 75mph while I was barely able to drive the truck. The truck would drive fine and than this would happen out of nowhere. I took it to aamco and found out I had water in the transmission due to a leak in the radiator. I had to pay $2500. 00 to have my transmission rebuilt and a new radiator installed. I feel this should be a recall on Nissans part because it was a faulty radiator that caused the problem and could have caused a severe accident. I have heard of alot of complaints regarding this same problem but Nissan refuses to due a recall. I have the same fuel gauge problem that was just recalled and I ran out of gas because of it. I feel that this needs to be investigated before someone is killed in an accident because their transmission just stops working while driving on the interstate.
