1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/26/2025

My car has been "losing power" while driving. While driving and pressing the gas pedal, the car will stop accelerating and kind of goes into an idle state. Highly dangerous! it happened the other day while I was attempting to enter traffic. It has been happening off and on for the last 2 weeks and has been happening more frequently, meaning several times a day. It seems to happen more often when the temperature outside is hot (90+ degrees). Also, with the last few times, after it happens and I regain power, the abs light comes on and remains on until I shut off the engine.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

My vehicle has experienced recurring failures where it will suddenly stop accelerating while driving, placing me in a dangerous situation. The engine remains on, but the car will only coast forward or backward with no throttle response. This has happened multiple times, and I have had to pull over for safety. Restarting the car occasionally works temporarily, but the issue returns within minutes. I understand that Nissan has previously extended warranty coverage for cvt issues in similar models.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/09/2024

While pulling into a parking space, I heard my engine racing. Immediately, I felt the car lurch forward. To avoid misapplying my foot to the gas pedal, I withdrew both my feet to the floor, next to the seat. The car continued forward at a fast rate. The car stopped going forward after it struck s building. However, the tires kept spinning, especially the front left tire. The engine ran briefly, until it stopped spontaneously. A few days previously, while driving at about 40 miles per hour on level ground, I felt the gas pedal to be unresponsive. Then it quickly reengaged. I mentioned this to my husband and he suggested that there may have been an air bubble in the fuel line. I don't know if the two events are related. Also, possibly related, I stopped using cruise control, because the car would surge and lapse during use. My insurance company is pursuing spontaneous acceleration. I visited my primary care physician the afternoon of the accident and was diagnosed with whiplash.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

There was a thermal combustion that caused a fire. Yes, the caught combusted at a local business. I had just entered the building and was told that my car was on fire. The police and Nissan inspected the car but refused to provide the inspection report. A light came on. I do not know the exact date that it appeared. I just received the recall notice and did not have the opportunity to get the car repaired.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

Over the last couple months I've noticed my vehicle delay acceleration after coming to a stop. I've also noticed jerking while driving at a constant speed. First I thought it was bad gas but the problem has persisted for several fill ups now. I thought maybe the transmission fluid needed to be replaced so I paid a couple hundred bucks to have it serviced. The problem continued. I took it to a local car shop to get it scanned. There were no codes present at the time. A few weeks later and after nearly being struck by three different vehicles in one day, I decided to try a different car repair shop. At the tune of another $91. 00 for the diagnosis, this time it threw 5 codes all for transmission. The mechanic proceeded to tell me about all of the problems people have been having with Nissan's and their cvt transmissions. It's $5k to fix the issue and I'm outside of the extended warranty timeframe. I read about the recent lawsuits against Nissan for this issue. Would be nice if they extended that warranty a little further.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/14/2022

Unknown. Recently bought vehicle, it's in great condition other than there is noticeable problems with the front and rear steering and suspension, missing airbags with no sign of being wrecked, windows and window buttons don't work as well as power seat, and a awful gas smell and fume. Inside vehicle after. Pumping gas. Wanting to see about any recalls or defects that can be fixed without out of pocket costs if at all possible . Don't know the vehicles recall or repair history.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/25/2022

Not sure what is going I have spent so much money replacing parts on this car. And it is still not fixed. It’s one thing after another . I cannot fight out why the engine light is on its like the whole care is malfunctioning. And no one knows what it is. And heavy smoke from tail pipe. While driving it feels like it wants to stall like the gas gets stuck . I was told to buy a control module but it didn’t need that . And I can’t afford to keep trying to fix it. It’s my only car and I’m a non working single mom trying my best to fix it. But this car is causing so much depression I don’t know what else to do. Because it’s costing too much and times is already hard.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/25/2021

October 25, 2021 at 4:30 pm. After waiting for the light to turn green, I enter the clear lake park making a left a right and left turn into the park. While turning left that’s when I notice a decreased in power, and an exclamation symbo, but the car kept advancing very smooth!! but when I tried to park the vehicle it started shaking, vibrating with a roaring sound, it felt like even the tires ware going to get off the rims!! making a lot of noice!! I had difficulty steering and parking between two spaces hit the concrete barrier twice or tree times, at that time the steering wheel was to hard to control. I turn the car off on parked I was puzzled, for what happened. After five or ten minutes I start the car again place it on reverse then on drive the car was moving very, very, slow with the gas paddle to the floor. Advance to the other side by the community center, as I turn left to park, the car started shaking again the steering wheel was very, very hard to control turning left but the force of the tires ware moving right. I was holding on to the steering wheel trying to park again at this time the car completely die on me. By then it was almost 5:00 pm. I called my insurance to request roadside assistance, and a wrecker service that didn’t arrived. After one hour and half a driver came to help to start the battery, he attempted to start the battery twice. This happened after one of my sons had tried two times too. Finally the car starts again, after dealing with it for 4 hours. Drove it for a quarter of a block and died again. The wrecker service came the next day to drive the car to clear lake Nissan, they kept the car for two days and supposedly didn’t find anything wrong with it. If this problem had happened on nassau, road probably I would had been killed. Today the 29th of October, after doing some errands and returning home a symbol of a transmission came on the dashboard while the car was loosing power it hardly made it up to my driveway.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/26/2021

2016 Nissan Maxima sr, problem started at 22000 miles, car runs fine, then when hitting a bump or railroad tracks, and sometime while accelerating at a light or from a stop the car goes into limp mode, max speed is apx 6 mph just enough to get it off road, at times it stalls in the intersection or when you come to a stop. Traction control light and engine light come on until you shut car down and restart. Engine light remains on solid but can be driven in most cases, at times it turns over then stalls, if you wait long enough it usually resets snd is drivable. Has several dtc codes when checked on of them is p1735 and a few others. It’s dangerous because you lose the ability to get properly through an intersection or to get by traffic on highway or side street, I have put my emergency lights on several times when this has happened. After reviewing TSB’s technical service bullatans it seems I am not alone with this issue.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

When I first purchased this car I had immediate problems with the power steering fluid. The check engine light has remained on the entire time. But the car was hemorrhaging fluid, groaning, whining, and my steering was becoming extremely loose. I call the dealer that sold me the car, because I dropped 4 grand on what seemed like a nice vehicle with under 100k on it. Well, I bought the car right off the lot and they refused to repair it. Cool, I respect that. If the inspection reports and other papers are clearly falsified. It couldn't have passed inspection under normal situations. But since the dealer owns their own shop, they could slap stickers on busted vehicles and send them off to be sold. Eventually they do me " a favor" by replacing the power steering actuator/pump hoses & did work on towards a dtc code p0550. They give me that favor by charging me only for the parts, no labor. Totally cool, if work was done. It still has the same electrical tape in areas that was "fixed". They clear my codes and off I go. Engine light cuts on again and I'm having the same issues. My power steering fluid looks like it's boiling or bubbling as well. Still getting the p0550 code as my main dtc. Except now, I'm having major problems and my car has been sitting for a month. Not sure if the leaky fluid corroded components from before. As of now I'm throwing dtcs for p0171, p0305, p0550 (twice), believe I have a vacuum leak, my exhaust system is damaged internally from the misfire codes and has also broken apart near the rear muffler, among other pending codes. Lastly, I was coming home from work and my car completely loses power and bogs waaaay down. Engine light is flashing and I have no control or power. I limp home, park the car, and haven't drove it since other than for test drives. After countless repairs for the same issues, among new repairs and issues I'm broke. Issues started on 3/24 through 12/21 not had this car for a year and it's been a constant pain ever since.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

As I was driving on the highway the car jerked and felt like it was losing acceleration. The check engine light, tcs and slid light turned on. I began to feel scared I had my child, sister and brother in the vehicle. I proceed to drive home with caution. Once I arrived home, I turned the vehicle off and tried to restart it. The car would not start.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

It has the check engine light on, it takes time to start and when it is driving it turns off (but it turns on). It goes off on flat surfaces, and when you are on a rise that's where it takes to catch on.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

It has the check engine light on, when the car is up, it takes time to start and when it is driving it sometimes turns off, but if they turn it on again if it starts.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

I have an obd reading of p0171 p0174 p219b after I changed the battery on it.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/27/2019

This issue is intermittent, has been checked several times by my dealer and does not show up in any errors. The car will stall at random times. It started out mostly when I stopped accelerating, either when stopped at a light or turning a corner. Occasionally will stall while driving. Usually it is very brief but occasionally takes a few seconds to re engage. Only once on the freeway but primarily on city streets. I am reporting this today but it has been happening intermittently save I purchased the vehicle since may 2018.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

Car starts but dies down after a few miles.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/17/2019

On April 26, 2019 when making a left turn the car did not accelerate as I entered into traffic and instead lost power and would go no more than 9 mph as I applied maximum pressure to the gas pedal. At the same time the car became hard to steer and I was able to pull off onto the side of the road. I immediately turned off the car and restarted it. The car started but without power to accelerate and I shut down the vehicle again. I waited and restarted a few more times and it eventually restarted. I took my car to the Nissan dealership for service and they performed a recall. The same problem happened again on may 9, 2019 and again on may 17, 2019. The vehicle completely loses the ability to accelerate while and has so little power that the max speed is less then 10mph. The vehicle is always in motion happens.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Unable to accelerate and lost of power without notice then unexpected acceleration.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Evap recall; severe rust; power steering is weakening; motor has extremely loud start; not safe to drive more than 2 miles - stopped driving today after the car's brakes and rotors were changed due to horrible rust issue.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

The mass air flow sensor was designed with overly narrow specifications, apparently a well known problem. Had to have mine replaced and the computer reprogrammed - at a cost of $725. 00. If the manufacturer mis-engineered the part they should pay for it.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/10/2018

Takata recall. At 80k miles my vehicle is idling while in park and also while accelerating its doing a jerk and feels as if it doesn't want to go into gear to reach higher speed. I checked the code and it read as a air mass flow sensor, catalyst converter, and O2 sensor. The car turned off on me while on, jump started it and turned back on. I changed the mass air flow sensor and its still doing the same thing. I took it to the mechanic and the mechanic said the code says battery and other things. Reccommended we start cheap by changing the battery and going from there. I changed the battery and the computer now says O2 sensor. I keep dumping alot of money into this vehicle and to me it seems that this issue is also happening many others including my close friend who owns the same vehicle.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/29/2017

The car, while driving, reverts back to idle rpm and pressing the gas pedal does not propel the car. This happened after being repaired by Nissan. On another occasion it completely lost power while driving.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/29/2017

Bought car one year ago at 120000 miles. After 2 mos, car started jumping while pressing acceleration and then began to just stop while I was driving. Engine light came on , had camshaft position sensors replaced. Less than 2 mos later, car was starting to stall again, accelerator still making the car stall. Had fuel system checked, was fine. Then my engine light came on again, now saying camshaft position timing needs to be replaced. Mechanic told me this is the most common problem he sees in Nissan vehicles. Should be a recall on the timing chain if the problem is so common. I ran into a ditch twice and very nearly was in an accident when my car cut off while I was turning at a busy intersection. I couldn't turn the wheel and nearly crashed! this has happened numerous times. I reported the issue directly to Nissan but since no accident was reported I did not receive any help or advice from them.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/28/2017

After 100,000 miles transmission started shoes of failure. Shifting past second grar would cause the car to stalll, then buck. Car would also buck when accelerating at high speeds. Also the car would stall and the accelerator would become unresponsive when shifting at high speeds. Forced to release the acceloratot and the press it again, until the transmission would shift correctly and "catch" the gear. Massive gas consumption caused by faulty transmission. Most errors caused when shifting in high speed or uphill. Specifically when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Car would slow down and work harder to accelerate after driving at high speeds for any period of time. Transmission shifts would cause bucking and the body of the car to jerk and shake.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/10/2016

At 101,000 miles transmission cut out. Gears not changing. Jerking movement when accelerating. In motion or stationary.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

I took my car to Nissan for state inspection on 11-21-2016 and for the car jerking and oil change. I was told by the service manger that my three way cataly had gone bad. Then it was told other things was wrong which was not expected since I get my car service regularly. Sensor assy air, mounting rubber, right and left strut, spacer front str. , bumper assy boun, insulator assy-s, gasket exhaust, hose assy-blow b, alll this was done to fix the jerking which did not work. I paid $3662. 55 on that day drove 10 miles and the car was still jerking. I called Nissan and they told me to bring my car back on Monday. It was then told that I had transmission problems.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/06/2016

When I turn my heat up , my car smells of gasoline. . I have spoke with ones I know who has the same problem, are we the only ones who have the problem. . Please speak on this. . . This happens while driving in motion highway or city streets. . This has been happening every since I owned this car. I was told its my imagination,.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

My car has given me trouble since about a month after I bought it. I bought it used, but have been told Nissans are very reliable vehicles even with high mileage. It will not excel forward at any speed until it gets up to 40mph after stopping at a light or stop sign. It is a disaster in waiting. I drive early in the morning and at night for work. I am afraid someone is going to plow into me because I am not moving fast enough. The transmission jerks bad enough to jerk my head back whenever I put it in reverse. I am afraid to drive it anymore! this has been ongoing for more than a year. I quit driving it a few weeks ago due to the jerking of the transmission when I put it into reverse. The date below is the last day I drove it.

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

Fuel pressure dampner leaking gas after 72,000 miles on 2004 Nissan Maxima. There are two on fuel rail. If climate control vent is open, one can smell gas if there is a problem. Very poor design to fix 3 hours labor to pull intake manifold off to repair, bolts upside down on dampner and hard to get to. Just replacing dampners did not stop leak, fuel rail also had to be replaced.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

On August 13, 2016, the car stalled in the middle of the high-speed ramp going onto a highway (long island expressway) without any warning, putting us in extremely dangerous situation. Electrical system was still working, but motor shut off. I couldn't get the car moving after numerous attempts a/c also shut down exposing us to a 100+ degree heat under direct sunlight. Also while waiting for a tow truck, we got hit in the back by the ongoing Ford SUV which could not stop on time.

31 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/04/2015

I find it ridiculous that a brand new car would be recalled b4 I even get 5,000 miles especially in a way that is dangerous and could cause fire to my car, safety should have been guaranteed b4 this car was sold, I wanted a different model that I was told was on sales hold, if they knew it was a problem they shouldn't have sold us the car!.

32 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

On 10/05/2015 the car started to shift funny and felt like loss of fuel on starts and turning corners.

33 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I had my daughter and 2 grandkids in my 2004 Nissan Maxima ,baby 3 days old my daughter just had her my car ran out of power right on the highway we were almost hit by oncoming vehicles we had to literally stand outside the vehicle so cars wouldn't hit us antifreeze all over ground and smoking radiator cracked and got antifreeze in transmission.

34 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Maxima. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number 15v486000 (fuel propulsion ). However the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1200. Am.

35 Other Fuel System problem of the 1999 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

I was accelerating from a red light going up hill. When I reached the top of the hill and let off the petal, the car continued to pick up speed. The brake petal was stiff and unresponsive. There was nothing under the petal. As I was quickly approaching another red light with stopped traffic. I put the car in neutral and rounded the yield into a deserted parking lot doing about 80mph. The car sounded like it was going to blow up. I turned the car off and remove the keys. The car continued to travel when turned off with the brake unresponsive. I put the car in park and put the key in the ignition. I clicked it over and the car continued its behavior. I quickly turned the car off. Removed the key and called a tow truck. I informed him of the problem and asked him not to start the car. When my mechanic received the car he informed me that the stud that holds the harness away from the throttle components had broken off and lodged down in there holding the accelerator in an open position. Because the car believed the accelerator was being depressed, rendered the brake inactive. I was terrified and did not want to drive it anymore. I thought about selling, ' the car that almost killed me ', but we own 2 of them. My 1999 and my husband's 2000. I have the luxury edition and it has been a very good car. Just feel I have been tainted by the experience even after my mechanic removed the other stud and called it a freak accident. Obviously I'm still thinking about it. And yes I did look at our 2000 Maxima to see if it may have the same problem but those components are not in the same position. Just mine. ¿.
