Last week a new battery & starter were installed. Did not drive for a week. Started fine yesterday and drove approximately 90 miles, then it just stopped. Luckily I was on a road with no other traffic. I put it in neutral and it started right up. I drove one mile and parked it at my home. Will not drive it again until I talk with a mechanic. Very scary! planet Nissan in my area have given me horrible service. If you have an older car they cannot be bothered. I plan on calling a local mechanic that hopefully can help me.

The transmission in this car gets very jerky and causes either delayed or unexpected acceleration which is very hazardous while driving in high traffic areas. From what I've read, this is a common problem for this vehicle.

Vehicle hesitates to shift the transmission during acceleration. Most noticeable while the vehicle is going up an hill. The transmission produce a whining sound if the pedal is depressed to increase the acceleration. Transmission was replaced at just below 33,000 miles by the dealer. The abs motor is running intermittently when the surface is dry and no rain or snow. This car was taken to the dealer numerous times without being repaired or an accurate diagnosis of the problem. The hinges on the hood and the doors are rusting. Th.

The car is jerking is while driving. It is also revving while driving.
This car has had hardshifts, between 2-3 gears and horrible downshifts. Nearly impossible to drive in stop and go traffic. Many other people have these issues. Flair shifts when coasting. Slipping in and out of gears. Please help! the car shifts erratically and this is due to a production issue with these transmissions. Nissan knows of these problems and that's why they now use cvt transmissions. Please issue a recall!.

Recent dangerous issues with my 2006 Maxima. Lately it has been jumping, or jerking when accelerating from a stop, or after mild braking. It is so sudden, feels like I may have been rear ended! I noticed two weeks ago a little jump in the rpms, but nothing too major. Routine maintenance and "everything looked good". That's what they always say. . Sat Aug, 2, 2013, turned into a residential area from a highway, my rpms jumped so high and my car seemed to almost stall or freeze, it jumped to rpm 6. I was so startled I stopped the car and turned it off. Later in the night it drove again fine. Two days later, after getting off the highway, my car did it again, up to 5, then a moment later up to 4-5. I then came to a four way stop and gently accelerated only for my car to freeze/jump/jerk again but this time all the way to 7. I had to drift off to the side of road and turn my car off again. Sat there for 20 min until trying to start engine and drive home, 3 miles from home, exiting a major highway. 10- 45 mph. Not catching the correct gear, or not receiving the fuel properly to the engine, inhibiting all driving abilities, speed and safety. Literally can feel it as a driver. Incredibly scary, supposed to be safe, expensive car. Do not want to be killed by a tractor trailer, all because Nissan won't take responsibility, claim a recall that is obviously a nation wide issue. 255 out of 375 complaints on this websites are for the power train of 2006 Maximas. Power train=that is 92. 7 % of the problem with 2006 Nissan Maxima. If that does not constitute fault, then what does? how many people have to be injured, or killed before this is recognized? disgusting, ashamed, pathetic. . Read more...
Check engine light continues to come on. Identified that the idle control valve and gasket need to be replaced. Identified also that ecm is now burned out.
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima. Check engine light came on and within a few days problem began. When driving down an incline and turning one way or the other the car will die, steering will lock up and there is no way to steer. Unable to restart engine until you come to a complete stop, put in park then it takes multiple attempts to restart. You also cannot even steer over to the side of the road to get out of traffic. This almost caused me to have an accident on two different occasions. I found out that Nissan has a recall on altimas with this same issue, but will not cover and recall my vehicle. This is very dangerous and I do not understand why they would only recall certain makes when it is the same exact error code on both vehicles. It is a p3040 cam sensor/cam shaft recall through Nissan. However, they say my make and model does not fall under this recall. Shouldn't they recall all vehicles with this same problem? thank you for your help in this safety issue.
Vehicle jerks at low speeds between 10-25 mph while accelerating and decelerating (1st-2nd gears). Vehicle also jerks from shifting park to reverse or drive, reverse to drive and drive to reverse. Vehicle jerks so severe at low speeds, it feels like being rear-ended. Vehicle will do this while trying to merge into traffic which is a safety hazard.
While driving my Maxima started to with a little kick going into 2nd gear. . Now there is a major kick when giving it gas or going to reverse. . Anything in reverse 1st 2nd or 3rd gear has a hard kick. . There are alot to other customers with same problem and Nissan wont help there needs to be a recall.
Tl- the contact owns a 1992 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel spewed from the filler neck. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 95v244000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was not available. The VIN was not available. Mh.
2002 Nissan Maxima. Two incidents of the electronic throttle control actuator failing. First failure in 2003 (odometer reading 10460) and another in 2009 (odometer reading 47199). When this unit fails, the vehicle may lose power as it happened to me in 2003 when I couldn't drive more than 15 mph. Both times repaired by Nissan service department. I have repair paperwork if needed. I have contacted Nissan about the problem and they have set up a file number for my notification.

I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima and my car shot out of a car wash and across 4 lanes of traffic and crashed into federal property. After the car was pushed from the dry option I put my foot on the brake took the car out of neutral, put it into drive and the car took off like a rocket. I had both feet on the brakes and had to use two hands to steer the car away from traffic. I had the choice of a light pole or a fence on federal property. I decided on the fence to be the least damaging. My grandson was in the car and it all happened within two minutes. I made eye contract with drivers to my left and right and honked my horn and everyone around saw I was having a problem and they stopped. I had no brakes and I reported this to Nissan and that was over two months ago and they are looking into this but I have not had a definite answer from them. I told them I need something to be done and that I feel I am driving an unsafe vehicle. They sent a contractor out twice to check it all out. The second time was for a test drive and checking the electrical system. Something failed in this car and I have only this car to drive to work. I do not feel safe, I want a fix. No one has said that it can or should be fixed. The dealership is not helping me at all.

My 1996 Nissan Maxima caught on fire by itself in the midnight, and it was almost completely destroyed by the fire. I received the vehicle from my friend as a gift, which was in a very good condition. And I also paid the buckner's auto service center at knoxville, TN for checking the car in detail and getting it repaired. But 8 days after, the car was on fire. During the 8 days, the car was parked in the parking lot in front of my apartment, and nobody ever touched the car. It's cloudy or rainy in all these days. Though fortunately my wife and I were safe, we were really scared and my wife was afraid of vehicles from then on. We have arrived at the u. S less than 2 months, and this incident almost completely disrupted our lives. The following is the description from the knoxville police department crime report:
the vehicle had not been driven for eight days. Interviewed car owner, who states he has been in the us for about one month, and had received the vehicle as a gift from a friend. He said that he had taken the car for repairs and to be serviced at buchners auto repair on 9/8/2009 and had an invoice of the work performed. He said that the car had not been driven since then because he was still in the process of obtaining his driver license. There was only an 8 mile difference the invoice mileage and the cars odometer reading. Investigation of the vehicle revealed an engine compartment fire. The car was locked and hood was secure when eng 12 arrived. Then had to force the hood since the cable did not function due to fire damage. Areas of high heat were indicated on the hood over the battery and fuel/air intake locations. Also of note was that the cooling fans were destroyed and one had fallen to the ground. This fire is considered to accidental and the cause to be a mechanical or electrical malfunction. The owner does not have insurance on the vehicle. Suggested that the owner take photos and contact buchners to check for any recalls or to's for this vehicle.

I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima, 5-spd, with 142k miles. Generally the car is a treat to drive and I have had no significant problems to date with its operation. However, upon traveling westward, from va along I-70 in OH, the car simply cut out from its current speed and stopped accelerating and began to hesitate and buck. It was as though the ignition coils briefly stopped working or the fuel filter suddenly became clogged with paraffin. Since my wife and I were traveling at freeway speeds, this was a bit disconcerting. I immediately moved the vehicle over to the far right lane and depressed the gas pedal for more fuel. That action worked briefly, but then the car bucked repeatedly again. We were able to manage the remaining 80 miles toward home thereafter. I feel that either the ignition coils are malfunctioning w/o warning, or that some other mechanism of fuel feed system is failing also w/o warning. The car does not knock or ping, maybe the gasoline or fuel injectors are fouling (however, I use 87 ron grade gasoline, and often add octane boosters, I also clean the fuel injectors by running chevron'stechron about every 3500 miles). This may signify a severe problem lurking; I hope you consider issuing a recall for the 1999 Maxima.
