10 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2012

I heard a loud "pop" pulling into my driveway and the seat began to rock. After exiting the vehicle, I look under the seat to try to ascertain where the sound I heard originated. It was dark outside, so seeing nothing amiss it wasn't until the next morning that discovered that the seat was rocking and bouncing 4-6 inches under weight. I discovered that there is a broken weld under the seat. From its appearance, seems that shouldn't be hard to fix. . . (sighs) if only that were true. I purchased Nissan for the reputation it once had, I was very disappointed to find numerous complaints about this same issue and no move by Nissan corp to recall or reinforce these shoddy welds. I am currently riding with this seat partially supported by rock because the dealership is quoting a $4000 to replace the entire chair. Even tried a salvage yard, to no avail. I am in constant distress about driving this vehicle, but have no option but to continue; I feel at the risk of life and limb should the remaining support break, I don't even want to put my kids in the car, but again. . . I have no choice! it's only a matter of time before this issue puts blood on Nissan's hands.

11 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

I sat down on the driver's seat in my vehicle and as I reached to turn the ignition, I heard a "pop" and my driver's seat to the lower left side. As I got out of the vehicle to examine it, I looked under the seat and saw that a metal bracket supporting the seat in the rear left corner had snapped in two places. It resulted in the seat losing its stability and wobbling back and forth and obviously becoming a major safety issue. I searched for recall information regarding this issue only to find that a recall wasn't issued for it but there are many other owners of this vehicle with the same year and model that have experienced this same issue. A recall needs to be made for this, I was fortunate enough for this happen while I wasn't driving because I would have surely been in an accident.

12 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2011

My wife was driving and all of the sudden her seat (drivers seat) dropped (towards the drivers door) about causing her to lose control of the vehicle. After inspecting the seat, with no weight on it, attempting to raise the seat it would only raise on the side towards the middle of the car. This is a very dangerous situation for someone who raises the seat in order to see over the hood. We purchased this vehicle because she felt safe, because she could raise the seat to see over the hood and sit higher than other traffic. Looking through this list, if you have it sort for "seats" it pulled up 82 complaints. Most of which were broken frames that they (Nissan) had to redesign. I don't know why I would need to pay the estimated $800 plus dollars to have the chair frame replaced if Nissan redesigned it because they knew it was defective.

13 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

The driver's side seat-bottom bracket has been broken for approximately 2 years, but has never been a major issue. Just recently, however, it became a major safety issue when I adjusted the seat, and it would not go back to where I had it. Namely, when I adjusted the seat upwards, it would not go back down. Being a tall guy, at 6'4", this meant my knees were shoved into the dash and my head hit the ceiling. Additionally, when accelerating and braking, the seat rocks back and forth unpredictably. To mediate the problem, the seat bracket is being replaced. I will be asking for the broken part.

14 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

The Murano seat frames are known to have a weak spot where the weld will break -causing your drivers seat to rock back and forth - or lean badly to one side. This cause sometime an unintentional sudden move which cause changing the steering wheel direction. That might cause an accident in some cases. Another major problem. Is the car get into sudden power loss after a while of driving after making a full stop. For example on traffic light or stop sign. It will take very very slow taking off and then will get the power back after few seconds. This delay may cause an accident in example of making left turn on a traffic intersection. You will not have any power to move the car for about 2-4 seconds . Thanks.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

2003 Murano drivers seat bracket failure. This is a serious concern that my safety in the vehicle is compromised. Because if there is airbag deployment and my seat sits crooked I don't feel I will be properly protected in the event of an accident.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

Drivers side seat bracket failure in Nissan Murano 2003 model.

17 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

Nissan 2003 Murano-driver seat is rocking side to side when driving. Seat is making loud creaking sound when driving. Especially noisy when making turns or coming to a stop.

18 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

While driving through the mountains, on very windy roads, I was in a turn to the right when I heard a loud pop and the front drivers seat dropped to back and to the lft, causing me to swerve and nearly impact the median. I pulled over and look under the seat an saw that the rear bracket had snapped on the left hand side. Doing some research, I am learning that this has happened to hundreds of people. I feel that this is a major issue and that I was spared only by the grace of god. This issue needs to be addressed by Nissan before someone dies.

19 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2010

The driver's seat on my 2003 Murano continues to move forward slightly at every stop. The condition has been getting worse by the month. I have had the seat looked at by the dealer and was told the "movement" was within acceptable standards. What is an acceptable standard for seat movement?.

20 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. He stated that while driving 55 mph, the drivers seat collapsed and fell to the left side of the vehicle. The dealer stated that the vehicle could be repaired at the owners expense. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The current and failure mileages were 75,000.

21 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

Drivers seat on 2003 Murano moves forward when stopping. I have complained about it and Nissan has said there is a small crack in the metal track which would cost $2,000 to repair. However, a short time later I noticed a plastic rail protruding at the back of the seat bottom when the seat was moved forward. Nissan re-installed the piece and, for the most part, the slipping has stopped. I thought it was important to let owners having similar problems know that the movement they are experiencing could be caused by this loose plastic rail, and not a crack in the metal track.

22 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

My drivers side seat suddenly made a metallic popping noise and my seat tilted backwards while I was driving. Upon investigating the problem, thinking perhaps a bolt had loosened, discovered that the support bars for the seat had completely broken away from the seat. I am dismayed by the number of complaints I found on the internet with the exact same problem. My dealer said he has to fix one every couple of months. I am now propping my seat up with three reams of paper. This is a serious safety issue!.

23 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

I was driving my 2003 Nissan Murano on the highway in normal traffic and I heard a pop and my driver seat dropped slightly to the right. Once I stopped the vehicle I looked under the seat to investigate, I didn't see anything loose or broken off. I then tried to move the seat and the seat easily moves off of the floor and up to the left side of the vehicle. I immediately felt that this was a safety issue in driving the car. I was thankful that the seat did not move dramatically while I was driving as I am sure this would have caused an accident. The failure occurred the one time but the seat now continually moves if making a fast stop. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership for repair and at this point we have been told the cost will not be covered by warranty or recall and will be at least $1000. The dealer explained the problem as a cracked seat frame. If the seat frame is cracking during normal use with an average size person (125 lbs) I can't imagine how the seat would handle a full on accident, especially if the frame is already cracked. Not to mention the seat frame cracking could cause the accident.

24 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

2003 Nissan Murano. Driver's seat squeaked from time to time since 2005. It has been seen at a dealership on several occasions, but always referred as normal wear and tear. Some added lubrication to stop it from making noise and it stopped for a time. In August of 2009 I moved to virginia from florida. The roads in va have far more curves and hills than those in FL. Today the seat back fell backwards as I was driving. I pulled over and noticed that the lower support bracket, just above the seat track, for the seat had split in half. I called my local dealer and was told I had to make an appointment to look it over. Online I was quickly able to find many websites speaking of similar incidents and some had the exact outcome as that of my seat. I also noted NHTSA action number pe08065. I was extremely disappointed in my car, which upto this point I had full confidence in. I don't think I will be recommending this car or any other Nissan for that matter.

25 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

2003 Murano driver seat assembly has broken for the second time in different location. First time was under the front part of the seat steel support rod was dislodged from steel seat support about a month ago and I had to have it welded back together. Now the back steel support has broken. Nissan dealers say it is not covered in any warranty they have and it will cost approximately 1000. 00 for them to order a new seat and install it. I've read multiple other complaints on this very same issue and this is very concerning as this is clearly a safety issue that Nissan chooses to ignore. Please advise.

26 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

My Nissan Murano 03 I took my car in for oil change and when I took it out my driver seat wouldn't move forward or back it wasn't that way when it went in and the dealer said it is a gear on the rail cost $700. 00 also at the same time there is some rocking in my seat they said its a beginner of a crack rail , the cost to replace $1200. 00 sounds dangerous and would think Nissan to recall these problems with the seats which can be dangerous if stopping suddenly they should recall and go after the supplier of the steel . Why make the citizens paid for there mistakes.

27 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2009

On 14 Sep 09 took car (03 Nissan Murano) into local Nissan dealership to figure out why driver side seat when sitting on the seat would go to the floor. Initially I thought that a spring in the seat had worn out; but I was told by the dealership service representative that the rail system that the seat was fixed to had cracked and the cost would be $800. 00 to repair. How does a steel rail system crack? I was also informed by the Nissan service representative that this was a potential safety hazard because the seat was not securely fastened and would rock from side to side.

28 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

On my 2003 Nissan Murano over sudden drivers seat went back and to the left with popping noise, now the seat feels like a rocking chain, I looked under and saw a steel bracket was broken right at the bent. Safety issue - no doubt!!!.

29 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2009

Driver seat of my 2003 Nissan Murano rocks back and forth. Dealer says the lifter link is broken.

30 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2009

Drivers side seat appears to have come loose from the floor from the left side.

31 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2009

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano with 70k miles. The front driver's seat has begun to rock side to side and even rolls forward and back (on it's own) slightly when I stop and start. This is quoted as about $1200 to fix. Seeing the list of all the same complaints about the same issue, and getting no help from Nissan, I feel a recall needs to ordered before someone gets killed.

32 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

My 2003 Nissan Murano (approx 76,000 mile) has a defective driver's seat. All of a sudden, the seat swings down towards the left.

33 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

Drivers seat on 2003 Nissan Murano is broken. It shifts during driving and leans from side to side. Very dangerous and bad on the back.

34 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2009

2003 Murano, driver seat bracket support failed.

35 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

While driving my 2003 Nissan Murano around a left turn, the driver's seat suddenly lifted up on the left hand side. It felt as if the seat had become unbolted from the car. I was obeying the speed limit at the time and there were no out of the ordinary circumstances. After further inspection, there is a metal bar across the back on the bottom of the seat that has broken. I consider the seat to now be unsafe and I shudder to think what would have happened if this had happened during an accident. I feel there should be a recall for this part due to safety concerns. There is already a an NHTSA investigation under way. Case id pe08065 . Please add my complaint, david kerr.
