36 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2009

Seat rocks wont move up and down.

37 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Drivers seat failure, bracket broken and Nissan/dealership states this is not covered under warranty issue although it is clearly a safety issue and there is movement of the seat when starting and stopping the car as well as with turns etc.

38 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2009

Driver seat loose do to powerseat failure.

39 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

I noticed the drivers seat in my 2003 Nissan Murano rocking and leaning to the left. When I looked under the seat it was obvious that something was definitely broken. I took it to a Nissan dealership where they informed me that the seat frame was broken and that the whole assembly would have to be replaced to the tune of 1030. 00. When I googled this info I realized that Murano owners all over the country were having this problem. Some of them had the problem fixed only to have it happen again. This is obviously a design defect that Nissan needs to take responsibility for. Do we have to wait until this problem starts causing accidents and deaths?.

40 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2008

My drivers seat in my 2003 Nissan Murano (which I just bought about 2-3 months ago) rocks forward and backward upon acceleration or stopping. It is slight but annoying. I took it to the dealership and they said they knew what the problem was and replaced the seat assembly for about $1800 worth of parts and labor. Well, the problem is still there. I took it to another dealership and they say they can't reproduce it, but everyone who drives my car feels it. While at this point it is more annoying than a safety issue, I've read of cases where the whole thing breaks and the seat will come off! if I get in a crash and my seat does not stay attached to my car, there will be a lawsuit. P. S. I would add my VIN if I had it with me, but it is at the dealership.

41 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano and I have the issue of the front drivers seat rocking because a weld broke. This apparently is becoming a major issue and the dealer reminds you that it is a safety issue when they ask for $900. Fortunately after speaking with another dealer I found there was a replacement part and it could be fixed for $350. I am reporting this because I am disappointed Nissan is not covering this type of issue as it is not like a part wore out and second because if someone else has this issue and is injured or killed it should be recognized. I am very disappointed with Nissan.

42 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2008

The frame in the drivers seat cracked, causing the seat to rock from side to side on turns. Specifically the frame cracked on the left rear side of the drivers seat, so when I took left turns, the seat would tilt to the right. Very dangerous feeling. My vehicle was past the 36k warranty (I had 50k on a 5 year old Murano) so this was not covered by Nissan. I think there should be safety recall since this is apparently a very common issue on Muranos.

43 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

The driver seat began "rocking" when taking corners. It was no longer attached to the frame as apparently some welding was performed insufficiently. It required a new seat assembly, which would have cost almost $1000. After searching the internet I realized this was not an isolated incident and wanted to file a report so the NHTSA can have a better understanding of the quantity of these issues.

44 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2008

The driver side electric seat failed to move. Adjust. I was refused warranty as the vehicle had 33000 miles on it. I was told the cost of the part was $1500 and installation additional. It is my wife's car and she weighs 100lb soaking wet. I found that there is a huge problem with this design as there are hundreds of remarks posted on the internet. Please help. This seat needs fixed; however, it is not cost effective for us to fix it and we can not sell it as is.

45 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2008

The failure of the drivers seat frame on my 2003 Nissan Murano. Although this failure did not cause an accident, it could certainly could have caused one. The left rear support structure on the lower seat frame gave way suddenly causing the left side of the seat to drop about 8 inches. If this had happened while driving at highway speeds the sudden shift in position and loss of balance could have led to a serious accident.

46 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

Front drivers seat was lose about 6 months ago, dealer looked at it and told me that the entire seat assembly needs to be replaced for $1100. I called Nissan as the car was just out of warranty and Nissan would not covered seat replacement. Recently the entire seat frame is damaged/cracked. Thus causing the seat to sit incorrectly. This finally cracked fully while driving. Which startled me initially as the car was moving and it felt as if I fell out of my seat.

47 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2008

2003 Nissan Murano, power driver's seat failure, unable to adjust, broken drive gear, happened as seat automatically moved to preset driving position when key was inserted into ignition switch, unable to adjust seat to safe driving position.

48 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2008

Drivers seat became loose. Power adjust appears to have come off tracks, broken a gear, or some other mechanical failure. Have not been to dealership as of yet, but quick internet searches reveal this to be a very common problem, yet Nissan will not acknowledge responsibility. Wife can no longer use my vehicle because seat is only safe when fully back and down.

49 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

Drivers seat mounting bracket broke. Seat rocks when turning, braking and accelerating. Seat belt is attached to this bracket.

50 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2008

My driver's seat of my 2003 Nissan Murano started leaning. I took it into the dealership and they said the seat adjuster was broken. They would not return the car to me without completing the repair, sitting safety issues. Nissan refuses to pay for the repair, so the car was held hostage until I paid for the repair. Nissanusa says the dealership was correct in not returning the car without completing the repair, but they do not consider the repair covered under the extended warranty as a covered component, nor a manufacturers defect. While the car has 77k miles, they are primarily highway miles driven by me. I can count on my two hands the number of times the seat has been adjusted. The dealership said a piece of metal in the seat adjuster broke and it would soon puncture the seat and possibly cause the seat to malfunction. Doesn't this sound like metal fatigue?.

51 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

The drivers seat on my 2003 Nissan Murano has broken. It wobbles and leans forward and to the left. After searching for a solution on-line, I've discovered that this is a common problem with this model. There is no doubt that this is a safety hazard. Nissan will not fix it. It should be recalled.

52 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2008

I own a 2003 Nissan Murano and the drivers seat bolster is broken. Nissan is saying that this is not covered (my auto is out of warranty). There are a number of Nissan Murano owners experiencing the same issue.

53 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2008

The driver seat has become loose and "rocks" forward and back. The driver seat "rocks" on the pivot of the front-left and rear-right. The rocking motion occurs during vehicle acceleration and braking. The seat failed about 1 month after extended warranty expired. I cannot afford the $1200 repair at this time. The unsecured seat is dangerous and the operator is subject to injury or death in the event of a crash. The seat is also a distraction while operating the vehicle, as an audible snap is heard along with a jolting force causing a slight reposition of my body.

54 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2008

Drivers side seat is loose, moves (tilts back and forth) when accelerating/decelerating or getting in/out of vehicle.

55 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Drivers seat failure began with loud, annoying squeaks. The squeaking resolved itself when the left side rail/seat support snapped. The seat now tips about 20deg off its level axis, and I am sure the integrity of the seat being safely secured to the vehicle has been compromised. This is not an isolated incident. Nissan, while having a long standing TSB on tis, refuses to see it as a safety defect? what will it take? perhaps when the lawsuits start coming in from people being hurled from the vehicle in traffic incidents then they will sit up and notice. A seat belt can only work if it straps you to a secure seat!!!.

56 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2008

2003 Nissan Murano drivers seat subject to failure. Seat becomes lose and moves upon acceleration and when turning corners. This problem has been identified by Nissan Murano owners on edmunds. Com. TSB#ntb05-043a only temporarily fixes the problem and it gets progressively worse. When you return for repair and car is out of warranty they say it is a different part causing the problem and is not under warranty. The seat rocks forward and backwards and from side to side.

57 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2007

My seat stopped working. The dealer wanted over $2500 to repair the electric driver side seat. There is a huge problem with the design and it has effected a large amount of owners.

58 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. While driving 5 mph, the contact heard a snapping sound underneath the seat. When she attempted to make a turn, she heard another snapping sound and noticed that the seat moved from side to side. The contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failures. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 48,000.

59 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2007

A few days ago; during normal driving and turning right on a street near my house the driver seat swim left pushing my body again the window and at the same time losing control. This is a very dangerous situation and if a car was locate at the other side could have been involve in an accident. The car is now out of warranty and the dealer wants over 500. 00 for replacing the entire driver seat track. Close inspection show that a metal bar running from left to right at the read location broke on the left site; this bar is the only think preventing the seat from moving left or right; it is clear that this bar is not strong enough; the metal was also twisted. Nissan should have a recall on this; people live are at risk.

60 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2006

I was parked at work and was getting out of my car when there was a loud pop noise. At that time the drivers seat dropped on the back left corner. My friend was parking beside and asked what the noise was. When you sat in the seat it dropped backwards to the left. I called and made a appointment with lake Nissan-leesburg florida. Driving this vehicle was very scary because everytime you hit a bump it through you backwards. I felt it was a safety issue. They said the whole rack assembly had to be replaced $689. 95 and of course I had no warranty left (2003 model) they didn't think it was a safety issue. I had contacted other Nissan dealers and they thought it was a issue and that this same thing had happened before to other Muranos. If I had of been driving this vehicle I know that I would have wrecked or caused someone else to wreck. Luckily I was parked.

61 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

The drivers seat rocks when turning, braking and accelerating. The seat was checked out by a mechanic who informed me that the seat rod is cracked from metal fatigue. I am reading that this is very common with the 2003 Murano.

62 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2006

Front drivers seat rocks back and forth with acceleration or braking. Dealer has a TSB outlining repair of problem. If out of warranty the dealer will charge $400 for repair. I am questioning the safety of this seat as the vehicle ages. Will the seat fail during an accident?.

63 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2005

The framework on the drivers seat of my 2003 Nissan Murano cracked and broke. The seat wobbles. Replacement is $900 for a broken weld.

64 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2004

My altinator broke on my 2003 Nissan Murano with about 8500 miles on the whole car.

65 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2004

Cloth seats generate static shock after exiting the vehicle almost every time. Fear a potential cause of ignitiion when fueling.

66 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2003

Driver's seat has excessive play in the track. When you stop the seat moves forward and when you start to drive it moves back. It's very noticeable. Has gotten worse, I now have 11000 miles on it. Afraid that if in an accident that the force would force it to break.

67 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2003

Consistent gas mileage 25% below fuel economy numbers on manufacturers sticker; rocking front seat motion that causes seat belts to tighten and fail to properly release; thunking sounds from shock absorber sub-assembly on uneven or rough road surfaces; multiple squeaks and rattles.
