36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

Brakes went to the floor during driving, became spongy, had to be pumped. Stayed spongy for 2-3 miles in one case. Has done this 3 times with me and once with the Nissan dealership mechanic. Diagnosed by Nissan as actuator inside abs. Needs to be replaced. Too dangerous to drive per the mechanic. Could easily be killed in heavy traffic. $2400 to fix. No assistance from Nissan customer service - said they will not help. 09. 14. 2018. Needs to be recalled and replaced immediately; next thing for Nissan will be lawsuits for wrongful death!!.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

I purchased the Nissan 11 Feb, 2016 I am military and went away to serbia was back for a few weeks and got deployed again to jordan. My vehicle was cleaned and was in a garage during my deployment. Since being back I have driven back and forth from va to OH for work my back breaks started to make noise so I had them replaced when the tires were removed I seen the under body for the first time. Brought it to Nissan were they deemed it non drive able and said that this was not an issue that arises within the time frame of having my vehicle it is extremely excessive rust to the point were it has eaten away the sub frame and that the waikem dealership sold me a death trap.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving at an unknown speed and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle did not stop immediately. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to greenacres Nissan (561-899-4294, located at 5353 lake worth rd, greenacres, FL 33463) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2018

Traveling 20 mph on clean, dry concrete, approaching a yield sign at an intersection. Applied brakes and felt abs pulse in the brakes. Abs pulses stopped and then the brake pedal continued to travel to the floor. I ended up finally coming to a stop in the middle the intersection. The driver who had the right of way managed to avoid hitting my vehicle.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2018

The brake pedal goes to the floor for no reason. It happens when I am driving at highway or local road speed. I attempt to stop and my brake pedal goes right to the floor and the car does not stop.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2018

When breaking, there are times when it feels like the brakes go out and I have to take the brake pedal all the way to the floor. It happens several times a year and this last time my whole family was in the car and nearly caused an accident because my brakes essentially weren't working as required. I see there is in active investigation and this is not an isolated incident. What is it going to take for you to mandate a recall, a death?.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2018

Having issues with the braking system being soft. Took it to a dealer and they are telling us that it is a $1,900 part (actuator) which does not include labor. I have seen other reports online of the same problem with other 2009 Murano's. Nissan needs to step up and recall this part before someone gets killed. It is a common problem that impacts the safety of the driver and the other drivers on the road. This needs to be resolved ASAP.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2018

The break pedal loses pressure randomly. Typically, I only need to push down slightly to get the vehicle to completely stop, but sometimes, after pushing down the pedal like I normally would, the car doesn't slow down at all, and I have to press the pedal to the floor and wait for it to stop. It's very scary, as I don't know if my car will stop when I need it to. In the past, this has lasted for three or four days, then randomly, the break is back to normal, and my car stops on a dime. I'm not sure what causes this, but I feel like I'm taking a gamble every time I start my car to leave in the morning or anytime I need to go somewhere.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

While driving home from work on a city street I went to slow down by applying the brakes and hit a bump in the road. My brake pedal went all the way to the floor and I had to pump the brakes in order to stop. The brake pedal still goes all the way to the floor every time I go to stop and I have to pump the brakes. This has happened multiple times but during the winter so I thought I just hit some ice and the abs was kicking in. There is no ice on the ground and it's happening.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

We were driving along 2 different times and the brakes were not working right. We had to push the pedal all the way to the floor and was still barely stopping. It was like a very slow breaking process and came close to hitting the ones in front at a stop light. Both times we noticed it was when we were coming to a stop sign or light. Eventually the brakes start to work again. But we did notice that when the car was stopped and turned off after these events, the pedal was very loose while off.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving 40 mph the brake was engaged all the way to the floor but the vehicle did not stop and hit another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There was no police report filed and no injuries. The vehicle was not towed and was at the dealer (larry miller Nissan - 2400 west 104th Ave denver CO 80234) who diagnosed the vehicle, which needed a new brake reservoir cap and a different type of brake fluid. The vehicle is being repaired and is at dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue who indicated it is a safety issue that would be sent to another party. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

While driving my Nissan Murano I hit a small pothole. I hit the brakes and felt that the brake pedal touched the floor, no pressure what so ever. I assumed it must have been because of the pothole and didn't think anything was wrong. But when I approached the next traffic light and tried to brake; the car did not break and continued into the middle of the intersecting street before stopping. Thank god there were no cars comming! I took it to the Nissan and according to them; fixed the brake with no charge to me. Conclusion: lost of break pressure after hitting a small pothole and a significant delay in break reaction afterwards. No break pressure and pedal had to touch the car floor in order to break with a delay reaction.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2018

While driving my car this morning my brakes went almost to the floor before I could stop the car in the middle of an intersection. (soft brake pedal). I was lucky I was not hit by a car. This has happened before. I recently found out that there are more than 110,000 people complaining about this issue and having to pay a lot of money to try and find the problem to no avail. Nissan has to know about it but will not address this issue. Does it take people seriously getting hurt or dying to get the attention of this issue? this issue is considered a matter of life and death. Who do we go to? dealers say they don't know what to do to fix it and Nissan denies this is happening.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2018

I lose abs breaking when I run over a pothole or slide on ice/snow. It occurred twice this week. Once I was driving and I went through a stop sign b/c I couldn't come to a stop with the brakes pressed to the floor. A second occurrence took place for my wife when she hit a pothole and it took a significant stopping distance to come to a complete stop. Only by shutting off the engine and restarting the engine does the abs system and therefore the breaks work again. This has occurred over the past 12 months and we have had a full inspection on my brake lining, abs system, fluid pressure, etc and everything passes. What should be done to correct this issue?.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

Car accelerate by itself when pressing on the brake I cannot control it mostly.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

Brakes travel to far making braking questionable. Several times wrecks have almost occurred. Vehicle is significantly harder to brake safely when trying to stop from higher rates of speed. Brake pedal travels literally to the floor board.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2018

Driving to drop my kids off at work, car slid during snow driving abs came on. After that I tried to slow down and the pedal to the floor. No lights came on now my brakes don't work except the last 20%. Looked on line and many say the same thing, abs activated, then no brakes,no warning light no codes.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2018

While driving the vehicle routinely in town, suddenly the brake pedal became very soft and braking ability was severely impaired. Pedal travel was very high, with pedal almost to the floor before braking could be obtained, and braking power was very low. Vehicle was successfully stopped, and turned off. The brake pedal was pumped with the vehicle turned off, and brake pressure returned. Restarted vehicle and braking system appeared to operate normally. This is the second incident of braking problems with this particular vehicle. See report 1072367 for details of a prior braking failure approximately 1 year earlier.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2018

Brakes are spongy and when they are applied hard they almost go to the floor and just barely stop the vehicle. It has happened to my wife 3 times and scared her to death.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

The issue is when the anti-lock brakes are engaged. After they are engaged the break pressure immediately goes soft and the brake pedal goes to the floor with no breaks. I have reported this for the past 2 years and the Nissan dealership tells me that they cannot reproduce the effect and that they are fine. It only seems to happen in the winter months when its cold. I have to pull to the side of the road and shut the car down and restart again. It seems to reset the anti-lock brake system. Ive noticed there is an investigation going on and wanted to report what I have found as well. The latest happened when I was slowing down at a stop sign and hit an icy patch which then the antilock brake rumbled engaging it. After I finally stopped half way into the intersection the brake pedal went to the floor with no brake pressure what so ever. . . . I guided the car to the side and sat for about 15 minutes and shut down and restarted the car before brakes came back.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

The brake pedal all of a sudden travels all the way to the floorboard. This excessive travel happened while driving on a busy street. The brakes did finally slowed my vehicle but very close to causing an accident. Took the vehicle in for estimate and repair. Estimate the next day was replace abs control module, flushing fluid, etc. Of $3400. The 2009 Murano is only 84,000 miles and should not have a problem with the automatic bracing system. This could have been a very serious accident. I understand this is an ongoing problem!!! why hasn't there been a recall?.

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2018

Brake pedal would, without warning, loose pressure and go all the way to the floor. Coming to a normal stop or first engaging drive, pedal would go right to the floor and no ability to stop. This was intermittent and inconsistent. Very dangerous with no brakes. Dealer replaced the abs actuator. Defective actuator seems common and a real safety issue.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

My 2009 Nissan Murano has 78,000 miles on it. Sometimes if I brake on a bumpy road the pedal goes all the way to the floor and brake power is significantly reduced. Nobody can tell me why this is happening. I've had the fluid system flushed and the brakes checked. Not even Nissan's dealership understands. Please do something.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2018

Recently had to replace the anti-lock brake (abs) actuator pump on my 2009 Nissan Murano. The vehicle started up fine with no problems and was able to make it to the highway with no issue at all. It was late at night so there was no traffic at all and we were traveling for about 30 minutes on cruise control (no need to brake) until we needed to exit. When we were trying to exit the highway I noticed there was now a very low pedal, I had to put the pedal all the way to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. There was no warning lights or notification of a failure. We went to the dealership and found out that the abs actuator pump needed to be replaced. We were told that they recently have been replacing several of these actuator pumps on the Muranos.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

Two times my 2009 Nissan Murano has had brake issues after the abs was engaged. The first time I was trying to stop at a corner. There was a little bit of snow on the ground. My abs engaged and then I couldn't stop at all. I was able to take a right at the intersection and realized that the only way I could stop my vehicle was to depress the brake pedal completely to the floor. Never before had I been able to depress it that far. I pulled the car over and shut it off. After depressing the brake pedal 3 times it felt like normal. I brought the car to our mechanic and he said there was nothing structurally wrong with our brakes. 2 weeks later my husband was trying to stop at a corner when it was the snowing and the same thing happened again. He pulled it over, shut down the car, pumped the pedal and it came back to normal. When I got home I googled this problem and saw all of these people with the same issue. I can't believe that neither Nissan or the government has done anything yet. Are they waiting for a fatality?.

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

When braking the pedal has little effect upon stopping. It slows the car some at top of stroke then half stroke stops better then sinks to floor. When stopping on a rough road the abs does not work proper and the pedal will sink to floor and tires will lock and not release causing a skid. When you are stopped can build pressure in system but when started and then move and come to stop the car will slow and pedal will slowly sink towards the floor and lock the brakes when almost at bottom. This just happened on 1-4-2018. Something should be done have found a lot of the same complaints on different sites.

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

The brake pedal loses pressure and goes straight to the floor making it difficult to stop. I have had the vehicle checked by a professional shop and they believe it may be related to the abs actuator/controller since the other braking components appeared to be ok. The vehicle has become unsafe to drive due to the unpredictable braking/delayed stopping behavior. Taking to Nissan dealer tomorrow for further investigation. Likely related to investigation under pe 17-002.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

The abs actuator in my car began to fail and had to be replaced by Nissan. When tapping the brake pedal, it continued to have pressure and properly slow the car. However, when approaching stop lights, stop signs, or otherwise braking hard (anything requiring me to apply more steady pressure to the brakes), the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor requiring me to increase my stopping distance. I was in a near-accident incident when someone who was stopped in the adjacent lane quickly pulled over into my lane, requiring me to apply rapid brake pressure. This situation was made worse by icy roads and left me panicked and concerned. The cost of the repair was $2,500.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2017

I have less than 57,000 miles on my 2009 Murano. At 46,000 miles, I had to have my failed transmission replaced and I'm having issues again with it slipping into low gear. The dealership couldn't reproduce the issue, so nothing has been done to address it. I had to take my Murano in for service again because I almost got into an accident when my brakes didn't work at 30 mph and I had to quickly change lanes to avoid an accident. There wasn't any brake pressure and I had to push the brake peddle to the floor before it stopped.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2017

My vehicle has only 84,400 miles it and is well mantained also. I have noticed that my brake petal is being pushed to the floor to stop. It is taking a long time for the vehicle to stop, a lot of times I am pumping my brakes. I recently had my brakes check, assuming that their was a problem or it was time for me to get brakes and was advised that they were fine.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2017

I was driving at 25 mph and went to stop at light and the brake pedal became spongy and went to the floor. I was able to pump it back up but it happened again 3 times that trip. I was not able to replicate it. But am terrified I will have an accident. That would be awful especially if someone else was involved/injured.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2017

Bral\ke pedal fades, must pump brakes to stop. Dealer tried programming abs module in August 2017. Problem has reocurred 12-24-17.

68 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2017

Loss of brake pressure following abs activation. The vehicle was in motion on a city street and was not turning. The roads were partially snow covered and when trying to stop the vehicle the abs activated. Following this event, the brake pedal traveled 3/4's if the way to the floor before the vehicle would begin to slow down. When I returned home, I repeatedly pumped the brakes until normal brake pressure was achieved. Brake fluid level was full and no leak was found upon inspection of brake system.

69 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2017

Once the abs has engaged (slipping on snow), the brake pedal will go to the floor and loses all pressure. So rather than just momentarily releasing the brake pressure and pulsating it on/off, it remains in the off position. This is the 5th instance of this problem occurring for me. Normally the brakes go back to normal after a day or 2, but it has now been one week. A quick google search will see that there are hundreds of other 2009 Muranos that have the same problem. Once the abs fires, the brakes loose all pressure. It is only a matter of time until someone is killed. Nissan is quoting a $2,000 repair bill to replace the abs acutator, which is too expensive for many people to fix. Please look into this ASAP. Do a google search for '2009 Nissan Murano loses brake pressure, or abs problems".

70 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

2009 Nissan Murano le. Driving through a residential area, traveling at roughly 25 mph. Road was dry, sky was clear, vehicle was warm and had been driven earlier in day with no issue. Vehicle has been dealer maintained and only has 74000 miles on it and had just been dealer inspected 2 weeks prior. Approaching a stop sign, began normal braking. There was a small pot hole or really just a rough spot in the road I drove through while braking, and lost all brake pressure, pedal went to the floor but was not engaging the brakes or stopping the vehicle. I began pumping the brakes and was thankfully able to stop, but not before I was well past the stop sign and into the intersection. Thankfully no other cars were there. Driving straight home from there the pedal was still very soft, or spongy and the brakes were not working properly. They required pumping or varied pressure to engage, and then would not provide pedal pressure or feed back. If pushed slow to normally, you could push the pedal to the floor still while trying to stop. Husband inspected all brake fluids and vacuum lines and found no leaks, or loss of fluid. With the vehicle off pumping brakes not building pressure. A simple search for "2009 Murano spongy brakes" returned many people through many forums with the exact same issue, that seems to be based on braking on a bumpy road and the abs system. From what I understand a abs solenoid is stuck from the abs engaging on a bumpy road, or uneven surface. This issue is extremely unsafe and I would not doubt has caused many accidents. There is also no warning signs as the vehicle was inspected by the dealership 2 weeks prior. Very scary, and had a vehicle been in the intersection, there would have been no way to avoid a accident.
