37 problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2010 Nissan Murano. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2010 Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the 2010 Murano.

1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2023

The brake pedal suddenly feels spongey out of nowhere. The car stops when the pedal hits the floorboard of the car. This has happened to me a couple of times now ever since I had my car. I have took it to my local pep boys but all they did was replace my brake pads. It fixes the problem for a couple months but it ends up happen again. There are no warning lights showing up for my abs or any of the braking system.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2022

My car’s abs failed to turn on even when braking from a far enough distance in the snow and caused me to rear end a car at 5 mph. I was holding down the brakes from 20 cars away and it felt like my brakes were unresponsive and all the way to the floor as my car continued sliding. Nissan’s voluntary recall was performed of flushing out the brake fluid and replacing it with the dot 4 and it still failed as a working remedy for its defective abs from what I have read from other owners. I love my car but might have to sell due to feeling unsafe driving in the snow. Please fix this Nissan before another accident occurs due to your defective abs.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2021

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact initially had a family member replace the brake master cylinder; however, the failure returned the following day. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who recommended that the abs actuator be replaced. The contact then called the manufacturer and was informed that there was a recall on her vehicle for a brake fluid flush; and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. A diagnostic test was performed, and a brake fluid flush was also performed on the vehicle. The failure returned soon after the repair. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that she had to pay a diagnostic fee to determine the cause for the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 110,300.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2020

While driving under normal conditions, 35-50 mph, dry, good, smooth, straight road conditions, I applied the brakes and the pedal went almost to the floor before the brakes started being applied. I have since learned of a recall for prior model years (18v916000) and subsequent model years of my vehicle due to abs problems. Part of the fix is to replace the dot3 factory-specified brake fluid specified for my vehicle with dot4 brake fluid due to corrosion of brake system components. I have determined that it is in fact an abs problem, as I can now skid the tires during heavy braking, and the anti-lock brake pump does not activate. The brake pedal travels about 75 percent of the distance to the floor before any braking of the vehicle occurs.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while her husband was driving and attempting to slow down, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to slow the vehicle. The brake pedal was pumped several times and the brakes operated as designed. The vehicle was driven back to the residence without further failures. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and without warning. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact's husband was referred to five star Nissan (839 warren dr, warner robins, GA 31088, (478) 287-4510) for further assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 99,000.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

Brake pedal goes to the floor before car will stop.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

I was driving down the road at approx 35 mph when I pressed on the brakes they went to the floor. I pulled over on the shoulder to prevent a collision. After pressing on the brakes again they began to function properly. I was headed to pick up my grand babies. ( thank god they were not in the vehicle) after turning the vehicle around to head home. The brakes malfunction again. This vehicle is unsafe to drive. I have my Murano in the driveway. I refuse to drive it until it's fixed. The part runs around 2000. 00. This is crazy. I'm still paying for the vehicle and I can't even drive it. Had to barrow another vehicle just to get to work.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2020

When I am driving and press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal goes soft and down to the floorboard. I have to pump the brake in order for the car to stop. This doesn't happen all of the time, but it is happening at least once a day. It has happened when I am driving on a city street or when I am on the freeway. I have had to swerve and drive off the road in order to avoid an accident. I have taken the car to two dealerships, they check the car and can't replicate the problem and say nothing is wrong with the brakes. I am afraid to drive the car. I did some research on the internet and found that the 2009 Nissan Murano has had a recall (NHTSA campaign 18v916000) with the identical symptoms my vehicles is exhibiting. The problem is the abs actuator. My car was manufactured in 2009 with the default parts, yet it was not part of the recall. This faulty brake system can be fatal if not addressed. The cost of the repairs is in excess of $2,000 and Nissan should pay for the repair for the faulty abs actuator. I now have a car parked in the garage because I am afraid to drive my car and have to wait to save up to pay for the repair. Please look into this issue before someone is seriously injured.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2020

This is continuously happening, if I need to hit my brakes quickly, my break pedal become soft and I need to push the pedal all the way to the floor. This has now occurred in many instances and I drive with two toddlers in my car. I've had the dealer take a look at my breaks with a whole break rehaul, this is still occurring.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2020

After an abs activation event, during subsequent brake pedal presses, there is no braking effect for the first ~80% of brake pedal travel. All braking occurs in the final 20% of pedal travel distance. This has been observed numerous times over approximately the last 12 months. Steps: - vehicle is in motion (speed usually greater than 35mph) - brake is depressed - abs engages successfully (due to some road condition causing vehicle to slide), brake pedal feel is normal - brake pedal is released - brake pedal is pressed again, without abs activation. Observed problem: for the first 80% of brake pedal travel distance, there is no braking effect. - pedal feel may return to normal within a few seconds. In some cases, pedal feel has taken up to 30 minutes to return to normal. In several cases, the vehicle was pulled over and re-started in an attempt to get brake pedal feel to return to normal (this usually seemed to work). Initially this was diagnosed by a third-party mechanic, who recommended that the vehicle be taken to a Nissan-certified service center for repair. It was this mechanic and the customer's opinion that this is the same defect that 2009 Muranos have been recalled for (NHTSA campaign 18v916000), due to similarity in model year, parts and symptoms. Nissan service center reproduced the problem and indicated the abs actuator as the suspect root cause. Have contacted Nissan customer care with this information - they stated that since the vehicle is not under warranty and there are no recalls for it, Nissan will offer no goodwill or assistance for this issue. I was told they will investigate, but that I should not expect any response or feedback. Abs actuator part number: 47660 1sw0a.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2020

All power to the vehicle was lost while parked in garage. Once car was jumped, all warning lights came on and stayed on. Drove to the shop to get new baterry. Speedometer was not working, map on gps was not working. Mechanic diagnosed that the abs actuator needs to be replaced at a cost of 3,500. 00. The car is unsafe to drive as I have no way to cover the cost of the repair. This apparently has been an issue with 2009 and again 2011 they 2017 vehicles. Why was 2010 skipped in the recall. I have a car in the garage that is unsafe and while all other years have been recalled, the 2010 owners are driving unsafe vehicles which could lead to disastrous accidents. Why is NHTSA not looking into this? will it take crashes to get someone's attention?.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

This symptom occurs at all speeds. When brakes are depressed, the pedal goes all the way to the floor. Brakes do not function properly causing increased stopping distance. This issue is a hazard for occupants of the vehicle and others on the road around the vehicle. The symptoms the vehicle is exhibiting are identical to 2009 Murano's that have brake modules and ecu's recalled. This vehicle has been removed from use pending replacements of the same components recalled on the prior year Murano's. The cost of the repairs is in excess of $2000 and should be at the expense of Nissan for installing faulty components. This faulty brake system can be fatal if not addressed, all Murano's with faulty brake components need to be recalled before it costs the lives of innocent parties. The expense of the repair out of pocket may discourage some owners from taking appropriate measures, increasing the risk. Trouble shooting other components to avoid the costly parts required to repair the problem is a burdensome expense for the owners and increases the safety hazards of Murano's on the road.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

I have almost gotten into a few car accidents because the brake pedal all of a sudden goes soft and I have to pedal it to the floor. Each time I've had to pull over to the shoulder to avoid the accident because it wasn't enough to stop in time. I can see that this is an ongoing issue as many other have reported the same problem for this vehicle and year. Nissan needs to get it together and fix this issue ASAP as lives are at risk.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Soft brake pedal, brakes won't stop. Very dangerous. Same issue as 2009 recall. This is a 2010 but manufactured 10/2009 and should be included.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2019

Brake pedal is soft, mechanic say its abs actuator,Nissan part no. : 47660-1sw0c, its same problem, that have Murano 2009 and recall them, but not recall 2010.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor without stopping. Same issue as the 2009 recall. My vehicle was manufactured 10/2009 even though it is a 2010. It should also be included in the 2009 soft brake pedal recall.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

Hit a bump while braking and abs kicked off, then the brakes went to the floor. Tried to pump brakes but brakes are still soft and on the floor. Turned off ignition and pumped brakes to see if that would reset, but brakes are not returning back to normal.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Experienced soft brake pedals after the anti-lock braking systems activated from hitting potholes, manholes or rough road surfaces. I was about three car-lengths from the car in front of me on route 22 (major highway), that was stopped at the red light; therefore, put on my brakes to stop. However, when I put on my brakes, my brake pedal had to be pressed all the way to the floor for the vehicle to come to a stop. This now happens on a continual basis, whereby I have to allow more room between vehicles to allow stoppage. I have noticed that the 2009 model year has the same problem.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Brakes are soft and do not engage properly. Brake travel time is longer than previously, creating greater risk of an accident.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

takata recall when trying to stop on roads that are highway or city and it is raining, snowing, or I hit a pot hole and the abs system turns on the brakes stop working and the pedal goes to the floor.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

I was pulling in to my parking space at work (in motion) when I pressed the brake, but it went to the floor and the vehicle did not stop. I tried the brake again, same thing. I was able to maneuver away from poles and other cars, so nothing was damaged. I had it towed to an auto repair shop where they found the brakes were fine. Fluke? no. Thousands of similar issues have been reported, but nothing's being done. This happened with a 2010 Nissan Murano.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

Brakes went to the floor lost control of vehicle. Went on lawn to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Vehicle has been in the Nissan dealership in the past for this exact problem that randomly appears. 2009 had a vol recall and the affected parts involved are in this model year as well. The date codes show it to be a 2009 part. Nissan would not assist us. Brake returned to normal operation. Vehicle has under 60k miles on it. Over $3000. 00 for repair.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. Also, the vehicle was slow to decelerate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Murfreesboro Nissan (814 memorial blvd, murfreesboro, TN 37129, (615) 893-0252) diagnosed that the abs actuator needed to be repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was unknown.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

For the past several weeks the car has had very soft brakes, depressing to the floor before weakly braking. It seemed to come on abruptly with no clear precipitant. Pumping the brakes temporarily improves the issue, but only for a number of seconds. The issue has not prevented us from driving the car, but extra care has been needed in maintaining distance from the vehicle in front and we know it needs to be addressed. Today, I took the vehicle to my mechanic who says the issue seems to be with the abs unit, but requested we get a second opinion due to the high cost of replacement ($2500). I did some investigating and see that your administration conducted an investigation on 2009 Murano's for the exact same issue. On this complaint database there are over 20 reports of this same problem with 2010 models, not to mention the multitude of issues reported elsewhere; however, there has been no recall or investigation. The abs unit itself, when shopping for a replacement, is apparently the same as that in the 2009. Why has there not been a recall on the 2010? are we waiting for someone to die in an accident?.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2018

Brakes all the way to the floor! almost caused accident! same problem that all of the 09's have been recalled for yet Nissan will not recall. (spongy brakes).

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2018

The vehicle braking system is failing during sudden or quick stops. We took the vehicle to a mechanic and they found no issues with the vehicle they could observe at the time. This was on 8/23/18. The brakes need to be pushed to the floor in order to slow the vehicle, if at all. This has happened again today, 11/4/18. The vehicle did not want to stop and took multiple pumps of the brakes.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2018

Driving the other day, I had to make a fast stop and my brake petal went all the way to the floor. I barely missed hitting the vehicle in front of me. I swerved to the left and fortunately there was not a vehicle in the left lane. The brakes continued to go all the way to the floor for 24 hours. When I took it to my mechanic they returned to normal and they could not find anything wrong.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

When I would drive and go to break, I could feel the brakes move down quickly and have my foot all the way to the floor before my car would actually slow down or stop. I went to a Nissan dealership, where they diagnosed my car and they said that the abs needs to be replaced. I went to get a second opinion from a mechanic and he told me that my abs does need to be replaced and he looked on-line and said that Nissan was having problems with the abs brakes. When I looked on-line and read the recall information (#18v916), I noticed I was having the exact problem with my abs brakes but my car was a year shy of the recall year models. I called Nissan customer service and they said there is nothing they can do but they did document my call and gave me a case number (34912594).

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

Pressed brake pedal driving thru icy roads. The car skidded for a short distance as the brake pedal became soft and went to the floor. Now the brake pedal is soft all of the time. It feels like the abs is permanently engaged. The car is stopping but the brakes are very much different than they have ever been. I have read that this may be an issue with the abs system. If so, this must be a defect as the car seems stuck in abs mode.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2017

Driving down the road, hi bumps in the road, started to slow down, pressed brake pedal and went to the floor, pumped brake pedal and was able to slowly stop. Went to shop, the shop checked the computer and said the abs went out because the abs had not been used, they reset the computer now I have brakes. The shop took car out and locked brakes several times in drive and reverse. Went to local Nissan dealer, they checked computer and said they find nothing wrong with brakes, no record of this happening.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2017

While driving the vehicle encountered a large pothole a few yards from a stop sign. Upon application of the brakes to stop the brake pedal "went to the floor" and the vehicle did not slow down (vehicle speed was approx. 25 mph). Evasive action had to be taken in order for the vehicle to navigate the intersection without incident. The driver limped the vehicle to his home in order to troubleshoot the problem. The individual was able to restore the brake system to normal by hitting the abs actuator and control unit with a rubber mallet.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2017

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The contact mentioned that there was a delay before the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was towed to courtesy Nissan (1777 n central expy, richardson, TX 75080) where it was diagnosed that the abs actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Breaks lose pressure after hitting bumps or when driving in rain. It has happened 4 times already. Took car to dealer and they found nothing wrong. It happens from time to time but very dangerous while driving. There are no recalls for my car and nothing the dealer can fix because they say nothing is wrong.

34 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

The brakes on my 2010 Nissan Murano failed to work when I was coming to a stop at a red light on a highway. The brakes lost pressure and the pedal went all the way to the floor and was soft. According to my research, the NHTSA is already investigating the 2009 Nissan Murano for the same exact problem. The abs anti-lock brake is defective. There needs to be a recall. I should not have to pay to replace this very expensive part as Nissan needs to repair it as it is a defective part.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

Soft brake pedal after a 90 degree intersection turn. Pressure loss in brake pedal after that. Now it requires to press the brakes a lot more to have same braking effect as before.
