21 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

2006 Nissan Pathfinder 103k miles. We noticed vehicle would shudder upon acceleration at approximately 40 mph and again at 50 mph. Also at times the engine would rev up like it couldn't shift to the next gear. If we slowed down to 50 and re-accelerated to 55 mph, the shuddering became a severe vibration. We took it to an independent mechanic since we had recently a bad experience with our local Nissan dealer in fixing another problem (timing chain). The mechanic dropped the transmission pan and found the radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission fluid. Mechanic stated we were very lucky to have caught this right away as it could have caused a lot of other problems too lengthy to mention here. Mechanic replaced radiator and did a tranny flush but I'm not sure our problems are over. Now the fuel gauge registers empty after I have just filled up with fuel, the service engine light came on, and now I am totally stressed out driving anywhere, and especially in traffic.

22 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2012

My 2006 Nissan Pathfinder had been having fuel gauge problems for several weeks. Finally after the annoyance became too much, we took it to the Nissan dealer. We were told that there was a known problem with the fuel gauge assembly that involved a recall. Unfortunately for us, we missed the recall by less than four months. My complaint is that Nissan knew there was a problem, then arbitrarily chose a date when the recall would end that would satisfy the NHTSA, but not fully cover the period when this problem could arise. Limiting this recall by date can prove to be extremely prejudicial to the customer that purchases the vehicle later in the year; for example, purchasing the car in November 2006 versus January 2006 would place the consumer at an eleven month disadvantage.

23 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

Known issue with fuel system (NHTSA id # 10v075000) Nissan acknowledges problems but put mileage limit on dealer paid repair. (approximately 1300 miles over) apparently defective manufacture issues have time limits regardless of safety issue associated with this. Intermittent problems caused delays in identifying this issue. This is a major safety issue that should not have been timetabled, inaccurate and then failure of the fuel gauge. This is a failure of both Nissan and the NHTSA to allow mileage to be the determining factor in limiting our safety.

24 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2010

2006 Nissan Pathfinder - fuel gauge all of sudden goes to empty even when take is full and then stays there. There is a recall out there for this issue but VIN number not part of current recall. Did some research on the internet and have found that this is a common issue amongst other Pathfinder owners as well. Want to know why this is not extended beyond current VIN numbers as this is a huge safety issue as almost ran out of gas on the interstate.

25 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

29 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2009

We have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder with a fuel gauge that does not work. The vehicle only has about 50k miles on it and should not be having this problem. We took our vehicle to fill it up with gas and when we turned it on it read "empty". After a few miles the service light came on and stayed that way. I called the dealership and explained the problem and they informed me that it is a common problem with this vehicle and that I would have to pay around $525. 00 dollars to replace the part. They told me that as long as I could figure out that the vehicle had gas I would be fine as long as it didn't run out. This is a tremendous hazard for the public because if I were to be on the freeway at the time the vehicle did run out of gas and didn't indicate it. Well, you can be sure that the vehicle would come to a complete halt and so would the pile up behind me. Not good! I went online to see if this was a common problem and apparently it is too common and deserves a recall. Everyone is paying the dealership to fix this and they are making an enormous profit after knowing that they made these vehicles with faulty products and obviously while the money is pouring in they don't care. Someone up the hill has to do something about this! recall needed please!.

30 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Occasionally, when the contact added gasoline to the fuel tank, the fuel gauge would not indicate that fuel was added. The contacts vehicle stalled three times because it was out of fuel and the fuel gauge displayed otherwise. The manufacturer stated that there were no related recalls and offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired when the complaint was filed. The current mileage was 66,328. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000. Updated 10/20/10 updated 10/21/jb.

32 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving, the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate fuel level reading, causing the vehicle to stall. The contact was unable to restart vehicle. The contact refueled the vehicle and was able to resolve the failure momentarily before recurring. The vehicle was taken to dealer who advised that the fuel sensor was defective. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the fuel sensor. In addition, the vehicle shifted out of gear abnormally. The dealer determined that the failure was caused by cooling fluid leaking into the radiator. The dealer then performed a transmission system flush and the failure was resolved. One year later after refueling the vehicle, the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to dealer who inspected the vehicle and determined that the transmission module system had failed. The failure was due to a leak of cooling fluid into the radiator system. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, no further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 60,000. The approximate current mileage was 107,000. Kmj.

33 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine light was illuminated. She was informed that the fuel gauge sensor needed to be replaced. She stated that the fuel gauge indicator needle remains on the empty symbol, even when fuel is in the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer two weeks later to have it repaired. The dealer informed her that the cause of failure was a short in the cluster and the part had to be ordered from puerto rico. The part arrived a week and a half later and the dealer replaced the cluster. One week later, the odometer began to display the incorrect mileage. The odometer was later repaired. Two weeks later, the vehicle began making a loud squeaking noise as soon as it was started. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the cause of failure was the tension belt. The dealer replaced the belt, but later discovered that the part was defective. The belt was replaced again, but the dealer was unsure if the replacement part would be defective as well. The VIN, engine size, number of cylinders, speed, and powertrain were unknown. The current mileage was 12,566 and failure mileage was 693.
