While researching a transmission issue on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, my husband came across recall #10v075000 for the fuel level sensor for 2006 Pathfinders. After all the transmission/radiator repairs were completed (another issue that Nissan was well aware of but has not remedied) my check engine light came on and I took it to an auto parts store to have the code read. They put it on a code reader and told me it was the fuel level sensor. I contacted my local Nissan dealership to bring my car in to have the repair done. I was told that the recall was not associated with my VIN and that the repair would have to be paid for out of my pocket. I then contacted Nissan north America where I was told to take my car into a Nissan dealership: 1) ask for a diagnostic code on the part 2) get the name of the service advisor and dealership 3) get an estimated cost of repair/replacement and I was given a case number. I made an appointment and had all of those things accomplished. I then called back and gave Nissan all the required information and was told they would call me back with a decision. 2 days later someone from consumer affairs called me back and told me that Nissan would not pay for the repair since my VIN is not associated with the recall. I asked to speak with that person’s supervisor and was told that “supervisors did not have customer contact”…. . So much for customer service!! I tried to explain that my car is showing all of the signs and symptoms that go along with this problem including; my check engine light coming on, the computer showing the code for the issue, my digital gas gauge not reading correctly, my regular gas gauge not going below ¼ tank, and almost running out of gas with my children in the car with me. . I have been forced to rely on my odometer to indicate when I should refill my gas tank.
At 81,000 miles a faulty fuel sending unit started to cause the fuel gauge to show the incorrect fuel level when the tank was full. This is just after expiration of Nissan's extended warranty to 72 months/72,000 miles for this known fuel sending unit issue. Although this is a known safety issue, a recall was never issued to just fix the defective part as a proactive measure. Rather you just have to hope it will fail before the arbitrary warranty period expires which I was not lucky enough to happen.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the fuel gauge would malfunction and display inaccurate fuel levels in the fuel tank. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000. Jft.
The fuel sending unit is stuck on 1/4 tank and they say there is no recall but there is on other vins.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph, the digital display for the fuel tank read zero when fuel was in the vehicle the check engine light illuminated. The failure recurred multiple time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the fuel level censor needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. Kw.
When I fill up my gasoline tank the instrument panel fuel gauge shows that I do not have any gasoline; this causes the fuel warning light to remain on. I have completely filled up my tank a number of times and this problem has been occuring for about four months. I believe there is problem with the fuel sender float arm because the instrument panel fuel gauge shows inaccurate levels of fuel. I am afraid that I may run out of gas and not be in the area of a gas station. This is dangerous because I need to know at all times what my fuel levels are. I am afraid to drive long distances. I have no way of determining how low my fuel really is or how much is in the gas tank.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel gage indicator displayed that the fuel tank had a quarter tank of fuel after the tank was refueled. Additionally, the service engine warning light illuminated. The failure occurred once. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.
Tl- the contact 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel gage was not reading properly. The fuel gage had intermittently showed that there was a quarter tank of fuel when the tank was actually empty. The check engine light had illuminated intermittently when the gas was low or showing a quarter tank of fuel. The vehicle had stalled multiple times due to an incorrect reading on the fuel gage. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Dyd.
Fuel gauge no longer works properly. When it gets to 1/4 tank of gas it will drop to empty. No idea how much gas is left in the tank at this point making it hazardous to drive. Once filled, the fuel gauge will not give an accurate fuel level for at least the first 50 miles. Check engine light stays on all the time.
I was driving to work on a 30 degree morning after just dropping my son (diagnosed with sickle cell desease) to school. Had this been prior to dropping him to school he would have been sitting in the freezing vehicle for 30mins until my husband was able to get to us and this could have aggrivated his condition. I was pressing on the gas pedal but the vehicle would not accellerate and I am showing a quarter tank of gas left in the vehicle so did not think that was the problem. I was able to pull to the side of the road as the vehicle stalled. I then contacted my husbands at work and he had to leave to come check on the vehicle and determined it may need gas because everything else looked ok and we had just completed a service with no mention of any issues with the vehicle. He drove me to the gas station in his vehicle where we purchased some gas came back poured it in the vehicle and it started up and was fine. I didn't think much of it until it happened again in the middle of rush hour traffic (am). I then decided to check for any recalls and found there was a recall for the same issue 2006 Nissan Pathfinder fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank NHTSA campaign #10v075000 we then addressed this with Nissan and they advised that although it is the same exact issue, my VIN number was not included in the recall so correcting this issue is at my expense. This should not be at my expense especially since there is a known identical issue with the part.
My vehicle, as I had thought, had 1/4 tank of gas when all of a sudden the fuel gauge showed no gas whatsoever and my gas light turned on. While driving another 20 miles to my nearest gas station, my vehicle started to slowly DE-accelerate. I had to pull over to the side of the road and my car no longer had speed and I realized it was because I had no gas when I thought I did. I was able to put gas on my car and sure enough it started running again but being that I only put about 10 gallons of gas, my gas light still stayed on and my nozzle still showed below the empty line. I was worried every day that I would run out and sure enough this incident happened two more times. Before that though, I viewed to see if there were any recalls regarding this issue and sure enough there was one. I decided to call my local Nissan and after providing my VIN #, I was told that my vehicle did not fall under the specified issue. If I wanted to fix it, it would cost me around $450 dollars, which I did not have. I was told I can pay a $100 diagnostic fee to see if my fuel sensor was messed up and if it was they would send notice to Nissan headquarters to see if they will cover my issue. I have to fork over $100 for them to view my car and its no guarantee that corp will approve for Nissan to fix issue. Is there something else I can do or has anybody had same issue as me?.
Fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that after refueling, the fuel level gauge failed to properly display the correct fuel level. The low fuel level warning light illuminated even when the fuel tank was completely filled. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 180,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the fuel gauge displayed empty although the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel tank sending unit would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 160,000. Mah.
The fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate fuel level. The vehicle stalled while driving on highway due to empty tank while the fuel gauge indicated at least 5 gallons (1/4 tank) left in the tank.
I filled my tank of gas, but the gas gauge still read empty with the fuel light on. My service engine light also came on. From that point on I could never keep track of my gas. It's either full or empty. Sometimes it gets stuck between half tank & quarter tank. I cannot keep track of my miles traveled because once it reaches half tank the fuel light goes on & the meter starts blinking.
Our Pathfinder has failed and been "repaired" 7 times now for the same problem. It's related to the issue about the fuel sending units. I was even also told by Nissan that the sending unit was replaced before we purchased the vehicle with less than 22k miles. To date no less than 3 units have been installed (including the newly designed one 2x ) to address plastic gas tank issues. On three occasions we've run out of fuel. It registers 1/2 tank and then we run out. Or it is supposed to have 1/2 tank and then drops to e and the empty fuel light comes on. This whole thing has passed the insane level. Once I had to pay 400+ for repairs as the warranty on the vehicle was expired. I tried to argue it was covered under previous repairs but that's like spitting in the wind (Nissan as well as the dealer cowels Nissan). Since the last "repair" a few months ago it has also failed 4 more times. We're just in the habit of using the trip meter. First question is this is a very serious safety issue when you potentially could just run out of gas on the interstate. Also with all these errors in the computer the vehicle won't pass state safety inspections. Last time Nissan refused to replace the sender unit or authorize any repairs or pay for a loaner vehicle. They claimed the mechanic drove it home and found no errors. . . Is there something you can help out with this issue. With all these repairs all these parts / labor warrantied for 12m / 12,000 miles. Why are they not helping? can someone assist us here ? [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

We have had 3 separate incidents where our fuel gauge was reading 1/4 of a tank and it was actually empty. My wife was stranded with my young children for an hour before she was able to get gas. I contacted Nissan and advised them of the incident and that there was a recall for a fuel tank problem. They then advised me that my VIN was not part of the recall. How is it that tens of thousands of vehicles in the same year and model had the same issue but mine was not one.

As a result, the vehicle ran out of fuel when the fuel gauge indicated there was gasoline in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not associated with NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.
I own a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, bought it to my dealer (countyline Nissan --CT) to replace a recall fuel tank that may send incorrect reading to the instrumental panel fuel gauge. After 3 visits in one week to this dealer to correct this problem; tonight I am now looking at a 4th visit because today my fuel indicator dropped from a quarter tank to empty with seconds while on the highway. I have seen fill the tank, but still showing empty. I am soooooo frustrated, because, I have to take another day off to fix this problem. I feel hopeless because I seem t have no recourse, I am stuck at going to a dealership that offers no recourse, even though it is obvious that they are not doing something right, I am stuck in a cycle with not even a loner car, until they figure out the problem. I feel unsafe driving this vehicle and I do not know what else to do.
I own a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. I took the car in for maintenance a few weeks ago and started to notice that the fuel gauge did not work. Even if my tank is fuel, it says I only have a quarter of a tank. Last Friday I filled up my tank and the gas light came on right after I filled it up. I called Nissan and they told me it was ok to drive on and that I need to drive it down to 1/2 or. 1/4 tank otherwise they couldn't do anything about it. I have a one year old baby that I have to drive to doctor appointments. I live on the outskirts of the city and always take the freeway to get around. Knowing that my car can stall and shut down is not comforting to me. At this point not sure what to do or who to call. I have been reluctant to drive much so I still cannot bring my car in until the gas gauge drops lower. But I don't really know how much gas I really have since that gauge doesn't even work.
I own a 06 Nissan Pathfinder. There is a fuel sensor recall on the 06 Pathfinders. This sensor estimates how much gas you have left in the tank. Approximately at 1/2 tank, the fuel level gauge show the fuel on empty. For some reason my Pathfinder is not covered under the recall. I was told by Nissan that not all 06 Pathfinders were part of the recall even though I am having the same problem. Nissan finally said that my extended warranty (that I paid for) would cover the sensor. My out of pocket expense would be a $50 deductible. I asked how many other Pathfinders were made with the same batch of fuel sensors/ is anyone else having trouble or am I the only one. They are not able to give me any information besides the day my car was made - Aug 29, 2006.
In November 2008 I purchased my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder se from a private owner. There were approximately 42,000 miles on the vehicle. After having it inspected, I was told it was in great shape and for 1 year I drove it with no significant problems. In November 2009, the gas gague began registering empty when it was on a quarter tank. The dealer replaced the fuel sensor ($400) which resolved the problem. I later found out that there was a recall on the same make/model and for that exact problem just 3 monthes after I had mine repaired, but because my VIN# was not on the recall list, I was told my money would not be refunded . Not long after this incident with 58,000 miles on my vehicle, I started having transmission problems, I was told by the dealership that even though my transmission is covered up to 60,000 miles, because the problem originated from a faulty seal on my radiator (only covered until 36,000 miles) that leaked antifreeze into my transmission, my transmission repairs were my responsibility. I call Nissan corp. To report the problem and the representative informed me that Nissan has received multiple complaint calls form owners having the same problem with the same vehicle. She advised me to voice my concerns to you in hopes that you could reslove the matter.
The molded fuel tank shell deformed, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to malfunction. There was a recall from Nissan for this exact issue but Nissan said that my VIN did not qualify for this safety recall even though the same issue has happened to my Pathfinder.
I own a 2006 Pathfinder and based on research done online, it's appalling to see how many folks have the same problem and Nissan has not recalled the vehicle. I filled up my tank on 6/19, but fuel gauge didn't move from half tank. The check engine light soon came on and stayed on. After discussing with the dealer, it's going to cost about $600 to fix this well known and documented problem on the Pathfinders, xterras and frontiers. The issue is a fuel sender sensor that can reduce or stop gas from flowing into the engine. This is a part failure that needs to be corrected by Nissan before anyone is injured or results in death due to vehicle stopping in the middle of the freeway. To read that most folks are not fixing the problem due to the financial is just as freighting, but I'm in total agreement. Why should anyone have to pay for a known and defective part on a vehicle that is 3 years old with little over 40k miles. This issue has been around for years, going back to 2000. Nissan finally recalled the 2000 through 2004 models. They need to do the right thing and recall the 2005 through 2009 models. In this site alone there are over 45 complaints on the 2006 Pathfinder. That is on 2006 model year alone. Searching through other forums, the complaints litter web pages on the same problem across the nation. Someone offered a solution to pull the negative wire from the battery which would reset the check engine light and turn it off. This does not fix the problem, it prolongs it and gives a false sense of security.
Four years ago I had problems with my 2006 Pathfinder stalling while driving, so I took it too a dealership. They told me it was a problem in my tank. To make it short. I spent over a $1000 dollars to get it fixed. It sound like recall id# 10v07500 Pathfinder fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank recall – id# 19956. I have the dealers name and number. I cant remember the date. . Read more...
