1 Frame Rust problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

There is an excessive amount of rust on the vehicle including the wheel well, door jams, floor board, and frame. I was almost unable to receive a replacement windshield because the frame is rusting out. I purchased the vehicle in the north then moved south and the problem has grown worse. The compartment that is holding the spare tire under the vehicle is rusting out as well. This could potentially become a safety problem if the spare tire separates from its supports while operating on a roadway. Rust has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle with no specific start date nor end date.

2 Frame Rust problem of the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

Takata recall. Just like almost all other 1995 Nissan Pathfinders my frame has rusted out. Only after 2 months it passed a vehicle inspection order I noticed a 4 inch hole surrounded by rust and lots of it, I have been doing some reading online and this is a very common problem in lots of 1995 Nissan Pathfinders. I dont see how there is not a recall on this problem, I feel like I have been cheated by Nissan just being cheap and I find it not acceptable.

3 Frame Rust problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

5 Frame Rust problem of the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

Baker plate rusted and wedged into brakes and rotors - literally tore everything up. . Cv boot damaged- rotors defaced- brakes defaced- all need replacing and mind you the brakes were newer had this not rusted I would not be having this expense. I have had problems with this SUV and rusted frame. Both side rails are torn off -due to rust the gas tank has had to be fixed twice due to the frame rubbing on it. I love this SUV and am highly disappointed that although built to last its truly not lasting. . I am shocked and amazed that at the rust and deterioration of frame . Nissan really needs to help us resolve these ongoing problems the danger in gas tank leaks due to frame rotting is extreme. I have had my gas tank fixed twice - my nissnan is literally falling apart.

7 Frame Rust problem of the 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

We purchased a new 2000 Nissan Pathfinder in March of 2000. The vehicle has 116,000 miles on it and has been driven exclusively on urban roadways and highways (no off-road usage). There has been no unusual usage of the vehicle. We have not used it for towing or transport of heavy or corrosive materials. The vehicle has never been involved in any accidents. The vehicle has been maintained per the manufacturer requirements. When not in use, the vehicle is stored in a garage. The vehicle has been regularly evaluated and inspected by Nissan mechanics during the free inspections offered by Nissan dealerships. They never reported any serious problems with the vehicle. About a month ago, we developed a noise in the front end when turning the vehicle. We took it to a dealership for an evaluation. The dealership determined that a portion of the frame was severely corroded and had cracked. I immediately requested that they inspect the rest of the frame for corrosion. They refused and told me that any repair would have to be made by a body shop. They said the vehicle was no longer under warranty. . After picking up the vehicle I immediately drove the vehicle to an auto body shop for evaluation and repair. The auto body shop removed the engine from the vehicle and inspected the frame. They found extensive corrosion of the frame. There are many locations in the frame where it has rusted completely through. The vehicle manufacturer must have improperly or inadequately applied anti-corrosive materials to the frame. It is obvious Nissan is aware of corrosion issues with Pathfinder frames. Nissan repaired a corrosion related problem with the strut housing while the car was at the dealership. There are numerous references to Pathfinder frame corrosion on the internet.

13 Frame Rust problem of the 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

I own a 2000 Pathfinder. The front strut tower has separated from the car's frame due to rust. This represents a serious safety issue. As near as I can tell it occurred after I hit a pothole. I was fortunate that I was not on the highway.

14 Frame Rust problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/04/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the driver side front strut tower failed and separated. The steering shaft broke as a result. The failure occurred while another driver was turning at 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the strut tower separated. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was determined that not only had the strut tower rusted at the bottom, but the lt frame rail had rusted and essentially disintegrated where it was supposed to be joined to the strut tower. Without the support, the remaining welds on the strut tower were unable to hold it in place. Updated evoq 10/15/jb updated 11/12/10. The contact stated that the manufacturer should be held responsible for the repairs. The failure mileage was 150,000.

16 Frame Rust problem of the 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/31/2010

My 2000 Nissan Pathfinder seemed excessively bumpy and the steering seemed very stiff at times after hitting a pothole. I took it into a Nissan dealership and was told that the frame has rusted through where the wheelwell is attached to a strut mount. The strut is loose (causing the bumpy ride) and the strut is pressing against the steering system causing the steering to be stiff. The Nissan shop told me they could not fix it and referred me to a body shop for an estimate. The body shop told me that they have seen this same problem with several Nissan and/or lexuses (Lexus Pathfinder model - I think it is the rx330). I was told that if I continued to drive it and went over a bump, the strut could plunge through the hood. I feel that this is a safety issue that could cause a serious or fatal accident if I were to hit a pothole at on a highway at a high rate of speed. I contacted my insurance company (state farm) and was told that if a pothole caused the damage they would pay for it. However, after investigating the incident, they informed me that this is a structural defect issue with Pathfinders and the Lexus rx330 and the cause was that the frame rusted through and the pothole would not have caused this damage to a non-defective frame. I have never driven the Pathfinder "off-road. " I contacted Nissan and they told me that they would not assist with any repairs due to the age of the car. The estimate for repairs is about $1,800. I am having it repaired at my own expense.

17 Frame Rust problem of the 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

The steering in my 2000 Pathfinder seemed to be rubbing. I took it to a trusted mechanic who said that there was rusted metal rubbing against the steering column and that I needed to have a body shop look at it. I took it to the body shop and he said he'd never seen anything like it before but my frame was rusted out and would cost more to fix it than the truck is worth. He advised me not to drive it because my wheels could literally fall in causing a bad accident. I just paid the truck off last year and now unless Nissan does something I just own it but will not be able to drive it.

18 Frame Rust problem of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/28/2009

The contact owns a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. While the contact was having her vehicle inspected by the Nissan dealership she was informed that the vehicles frame had began to rust. The contact was informed by the dealership that the failure could not be serviced, there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 183000.

19 Frame Rust problem of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

My 1999 Nissan Pathfinder has extensive frame rust, rusting from the inside out. It failed a virginia safety check. Virginia law prohibits frame repair on vehicles. The report and pictures were sent from the local Nissan dealer to Nissan corporate, and they dismissed any liability, saying the vehicle was too old, with too many miles (200k). I have researched this and found hundreds of reports on the internet. The rust is so extensive that you can literally see through the frame in some spots.

20 Frame Rust problem of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

I've had the same problem as others with my one owner 99 Pathfinder. The front drivers side wheelwell frame assembly has rusted and separated to the point that it is too dangerous to drive. It is at the repair shop now, I am waiting for the estimate for repair cost, I've been told to expect a minimum of $1500. I hope others respond and complain so that maybe Nissan will own up to manufacturing a vehicle with defective metal and at least issue a recall. These vehicles are dangerous as the entire wheel assembly can collapse and cause serious injury or death. I took excellent care of my SUV, the engine and the rest is in excellent condition, but I was totally unaware of the extensive rust until I took it to the shop for strut replacement and they informed me of the condition. Luckily I was able to drive the vehicle home but that drive home caused more damage and that's when I saw that the frame had completely separated caused by the weight of the vehicle and I had to have it towed to the repair shop. I was told that it could have pushed the entire tire assembly straight upward and through the hood. Please be warned, and make sure to have your Pathfinders thoroughly inspected for this problem.
