Power Steering Failed Problems of Nissan Pathfinder

The contact owns a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the scene. In addition, the power steering malfunctioned on several occasions. The contact stated that the steering wheel became very difficult to steer left or right. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the crash or the power steering failure. The failure mileage was 176,548.

At slow speed during a turn, the power steering failed (engine was still running). It takes a lot of force on the steering wheel to turn the car with the power steering off. My wife could never exert this much force on the wheel if she was driving while this happened. In about a mile, the power steering returned to normal, then another mile down the road it failed again, and then returned to normal again.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph and making a turn, the steering seized and became extremely difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised that the power steering shaft failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

The steering wheel on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder became wobbly after only 50,000 miles. The steering wheel would, at times, be normal, then be wobbly. At times the power steering would seems to fail and the steering wheel would be hard to turn. The Nissan dealer diagnosed the problem as needing a new steering column and, to their credit, while out of warranty, replaced the steering column for free.
