4 Steering problem of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/03/2024

The engine began to fail because of a lack of adequate breathability into the crankcase, causing high crankcase pressure, excessive oil blowby, severe exhaust smoke, severe engine sludge, severe engine shuddering, and lack of response to the power steering because of engine power loss. The failure of the pcv system was at fault. Produced codes p0300, p0306, and p0430. Engine sludge needed to be cleaned, pcv hoses and pcv needed to be replaced, spark plugs needed to be replaced because of blowby, and valve covers also needed to be replaced because of sludge clogging the pcv baffles within the valve covers.

6 Steering problem of the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/18/2024

There is a loud popping/clunk sound when standing still and turning the wheel either left or right. It’s like metal is catching and then pressure finally pushes a part over another and it pops loud. It does not affect the steering or suspension quality.

7 Steering problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

I started having issues with my brakes. I had recently had the front rotors and pads replaced, but I still heard squeeking, and a little fishtailing on my back end. I figured I needed my brakes in the rear checked, so I took it to pep boys for a free inspection. The mechanic showed me that my rear control arm on the left was very loose, and the compartment that connected to it was severely rusted thru. He told me this was across the whole back end and it was actually part of my frame. He said it is called a k-frame and it should not be rusted through with my car being barely 11 years old. There are massive holes all the way across. He said that is why I thought that I might need my struts replaced because of a thunk sound when pulling off. There was no connection at all. He says I should not drive it at all because my whole back end could fall off literally!.

8 Steering problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/10/2023

This relates to campaign number 11v244000 we are the original and only owners of the vehicle I originally brought the vehicle in for the recall and they simply sprayed some undercoating in the wheel wells. Less than a month later both strut towers separated from the body of the vehicle while my wife was driving home, she lost steering and could have had a serious or fatal accident. I towed to the dealer and they installed braces in both strut towers. I have always taken exceptional care of my vehicles, which includes multiple washes during winter months and extensive undercarriage washing every spring. This past oct when I took the vehicle in for mandatory state inspection I was informed that the vehicle would not pass inspection next year. They told me this once before in relation to extensive rust to the passenger side rear frame next to the muffler. I was able to cut out the rust and weld a thicker plate of steel in there to repair the frame. I just changed my oil and looked for what the mechanic was referring too. This time the rust is between the braces they installed for the struts and the front of the wheel well. The mechanic saw the rust coming through the paint and poked at it with a screw driver, the screw driver went right though the body leaving significant holes in the structure that supports the struts. When the weather breaks I will further inspect to determine if there is enough good metal left for me to attempt a repair. I am doubtful a repair will be possible as the metal used to construct this vehicle is very poor quality. Despite my constant care, washing, rust conversion treatments, painting with rust blocking paint and using undercoating, every inch on the underside of the vehicle is rusted. Both rear quarters rotted behind the wheel flares and down into where the rear doors close and contact the rear quarters. Now due to Nissan's decision to use substandard metal I am forced to buy a new vehicle which is currently financially impossible.

9 Steering problem of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/04/2023

While driving at a speed of 60mph on the highway my Pathfinder lost all power and became had to control as my car came to a complete stop causing me to be stuck in between to merging highways with traffic on each side . I was given no warning this was about to happen and it could have cost me my life . My car had to be picked up and towed I would assume it’s my transmission or my engine it is the 3rd. I could not accelerate or shift at all despite having no warning lights on until I turned it off to save my battery and make my self able to keep my lights and flashers on without causing anymore damage to my car which has already had a complete engine ,diffrential, and transfcase, radiator, and tan blades replaced multiple times at just 2 years old but was out of mileage so Nissan wouldn’t honor them . Well I assumed with Nissans suite winces they know it’s their transmissions they would cover everyone’s since this is on going however they didn’t and only covered to mileage to my surprise .

13 Steering problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/03/2022

I get regular maintenance on my car and have owned it for numerous years. I was driving on a major highway & with no warning the car shut off and locked up. The power steering was completely gone. If it hadn't been for going down hill I probably would of gotten hit as I tried to get off the road. My seat belt locked in place and I had to climb out of the seat belt to get out of the vehicle. The doors were also locked and had an issue opening them at first in 91degree heat it was a very scary experience.

16 Steering problem of the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/21/2022

I was driving on I-24 in my 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. I was using cruise control and I’m sure I also had steering assist engaged. I do not believe the vehicle would have reacted as it did without that. I was in the left lane, and a vehicle began to enter my lane from my right. I made a quick, evasive move to the left. On the left shoulder was a guardrail, so I corrected slightly to the right. Then the vehicle took over and we were along for the ride. It immediately turned hard to the right across the lanes, then reversed back to the left, and then back to the right. I regained control in the right lane. Fortunately, other traffic held back and we did not hit any other vehicle. We also never left the roadway or crossed over into oncoming traffic. I’m an experienced driver, so I know my control inputs were not excessive. I probably did not brake, which would have disengaged cruise and steering assist. I was simply shifting sideways, with no obstructions in front, so I did not need to brake. Things happened quickly, but I’m pretty sure I instinctively steered against the un-commanded turns. The vehicle motions reminded me of the old videos of jeeps being rollover tested with outriggers installed. I do not recall any skidding noises or whether any wheels actually left the road surface, but my passengers said they feared we would roll. Per the owner’s manual, a feature called intelligent lane intervention is automatically turned on when the steering assist system is active. The warnings say, “when the I-li system is operating, avoid excessive or sudden steering maneuvers. Otherwise, you could lose control of the vehicle. ” I can confirm that. The section on steering assist does not include this warning and I do not see any reference to its activating lane intervention. In any case, evasive steering actions are sometimes required. The system may be a little too sensitive to normal corrections or perhaps should deactivate when steering exceeds a certain amount.

17 Steering problem of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

The car veers to the right when my foot is removed from the acelerator or I press on the brake pedal when going at least 40 mph. The car veers to the left when I press on the accelerator to go faster than 40 mph.

18 Steering problem of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/30/2021

Power steering fluid is leaking from my 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. Currently, the fluid level is well below the minimum level marked on the fluid reservoir. The dipstick is dry. Concerned that this can lead to an accident if the power steering fails while I'm driving, not to mention the cost of repairing the issue. My car is 1 year out of its factory warranty.

19 Steering problem of the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/20/2021

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, she heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the power steering unit needed to be replaced. The contact called jeff wyler Nissan of cincinnati (8680 colerain Ave, cincinnati, OH 45251, (513)385-1400) and made the dealer aware of the failure. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

20 Steering problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/18/2021

The front passenger control arm snapped free from the subframe while sitting at a stop sign. I heard a loud noise and had no idea what it was until I started driving and felt an issue in the steering. When I went underneath to look, I realized that the entire control arm assembly was completely separated from the subframe. When looking online for a possible recall, I realized that I'm not the only one where something similar has happened. This is clearly not a wear and tear issue and no way should this ever happen. This is something the manufacturer needs to fix! I hope something is done soon before it happens to someone else!! of course my car isn't under warranty anymore so now I am stuck with a $3,000 bill due to no fault of my own, and the insurance company can't help me either. Please add this to your recall list. . . This is so dangerous!!!!!.

21 Steering problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

Family car;2001 Nissan Pathfinder, we got in the truck and drove about 250 feet to the stop sign. I stop. As I started moving and suddenly I hear a pop loud sound from engine compartment and my steering got hard and difficult to steer and a grinding sound as you turn the steering. Drove back to the house slow and park. Open the hood and I see the strut tower under neath the brake master cylinder, then I look between left side (drivers) tire the strut tower just ripped from the factory weld. My family in the car when this occur. What if this occur while on the highway at higher speeds. My truck only has 106523 miles and was scheduled for a PA inspection.

22 Steering problem of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/18/2020

When hitting any imperfections in the road, the Pathfinder will lose traction and steering. On the highway it is most dangerous, online it is called "the death sway" and is a known issue to consumers in the Pathfinder and Infiniti qx80. Forums identify bushing and bushing arms as the likely culprit. I have never been more afraid to drive a vehicle and have had others drive my vehicle to verify the issue is not caused by my driving. I contacted Nissan twice and they have informed me both times that there isn't anything they can do about it.

23 Steering problem of the 2009 Nissan Pathfinder

24 Steering problem of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/22/2019

I was in the process of turning on a back road, there was a guardrail to my left and and a truck with a trailer turning in front of me on my right. My sensors must have thought they were too close because my car locked up and I could not turn causing me to hit the guardrail.

25 Steering problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/11/2019

I would like to make you aware of what appears to be a design flaw with the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder hybrid which you should notify other customers of as well. The rear blower motor is used to cool the very expensive battery system and hold off battery failure. There are no sensors or feedback monitoring of the rear blower motor to confirm it is operational. The rear blower motor of my Pathfinder has died 3 times without issuing either a service code or any indication of a system failure. This has then led to the death of the very expensive battery pack. The first failure happened in 2016 at 37,000 miles and it appears to have a modulus of roughly 35,000 between deaths and should be pro-actively replaced by the owner to prevent the very expensive battery from having to be replaced. The only indication to the user that anything is wrong is that the battery light comes on and the car shuts down while in motion. The first time this happened to me I was on the freeway and was stranded in the middle lane until a police vehicle arrived. The next time was in the middle of the night when I was on side streets where the car came to a stop in the middle of an unlit road, with the battery dying completely after an hour while waiting on a tow truck. The last round happened 3 weeks ago (on a Sunday afternoon thankfully without an accident possibility) - the car went into the shop and the very expensive battery was replaced but not the rear blower (as they were unaware of the failure). I got the car back for about 3 days before the car died again with the same error - at which point the technicians identified the rear blower died (again). You should notify other customers of this 5 year old product of the design defect and the need to check the blower fan regularly to ensure the very expensive battery has a long life.

26 Steering problem of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Anti collision light keeps coming on and beeping intermittently and vehicle seems to jerk when problem occurs. There is no other vehicle around me. And anti collision light stays on until vehicles is turned off then on again problem has occurred 3 times in 1 weak . Driving freeway 2 times 1 city driving straight ahead. And when vehicles jerks afraid it just wants to just stop in motion were I'm at but doesn't.

27 Steering problem of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

The engine cooling fan clutch assembly failed at 47,822 and it sounded like rapid fire going off in the front grill. The ipdm was replaced on this vehicle on 04_10_2019, with right at 50,000 miles. Vehicle was towed in and wouldn't turn off. Crest Nissan in frisco, TX pulled both battery cables, and then pulled the wiring harness out of the back of the ipdm module. They replaced the ipdm module at this time. After they did this is when the following issues started occurring. We back out, turn the wheels to the left or right, and then place the vehicle in drive. At this point we have turned the wheels back to a center position and go to accelerate to move forward. The engine rpm doesn't increase and the vehicle will not move. The truck is running, but nothing happens. After 3-5 seconds, the trucks accelerator pedal will engage and the truck will procced forward. Over 70% of the time, after this occurs, the truck exhibits a loss of power and a loud "roar" coming from the engine compartment. If you pull into a parking lot, turn the truck off, and go inside for a few minutes, the truck will start right up and the loud "roar" is now gone. However, there are times when you go to start the vehicle (using the start/stop button on the dash) and the engine sounds like it turns half a rotation, and then stops. Approximately 1 - 1. 5 seconds later, the engine will continue to turn over and the truck will start. The technicians at crest Nissan originally told us that they couldn't find the issue and that our vehicle was ready for pickup on 07/11. My wife and I went to the dealer, got into the truck, and within five minutes duplicated the problem. We went back into the service department, asked billy to ride with us and he saw the problem. He then kept the vehicle and showed the technicians in the morning. We still don't have our truck back and they don't know what to do to fix.

28 Steering problem of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

30 Steering problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

While driving on the freeway or the city street, the car started to jerk and then suddenly cut off and lose power. This has happened at least five times at normal highway and freeway speeds in a straight forward motion. While on the freeway, I was able to glide over to stop the car and restart it. The car starts right back up and is drivable. The last time was on the city street, I was going about 35-40mph and the car again jerks and the engine cuts off and looses power. However, this time the steering wheel locked up preventing me to get over. I had to stop the car by breaking directly in the lane nearly causing cars to slam into me. Again, once I come to a complete stop and put the car in park I am able to start the engine and drive again. After this first happened, I took my car in for a tune-up, oil change, and a diagnostic test but nothing read as an error. I do not drive far distances just mainly around town and have received regular maintenance on my vehicle. I am now afraid to drive my car because the lose of power does not happen consistently but is very dangerous when it does and can definitely cause an accident/injury/death if someone is driving too close. I looked up recalls and found recall10v517000. It says there was a recall for 2004-2006 Nissan Pathfinders but my VIN # is not excepted. Please look into this for this matter because I do not feel safe for myself and others while driving.

31 Steering problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

At speeds over 50 mph the car begins to wobble, have been told this is a common problem involing faulty trailing arm bushing/ rear arm bushing and bearing need to be replaced causing what is coommonly known as the death wobble. But lets up when you let up off the gas? to me this a major safety issue! that many have had this problem, that I have found on on line forums. . Why hasn't Nissan recalled this issue?.

32 Steering problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

Driver's side strut tower has rusted to the point were the truck will pass va state safety inspection. There was a recall performed by several years ago by Nissan for the rust issue on both inner wheel wells and strut tower area.

33 Steering problem of the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

Vehicle pulled to the left while on freeway then went into dirt median tried to get it back on the freeway and it started rolling went across the freeway and down a steep embankment. Airbags did not deploy. Vehicle was hard to steering at speed limit (75 in az). Pulled to the right and left. Roof smashed down, I could barely crawl out of the back of the vehicle. Vehicle is a hamilton towing, buckeye, az.

34 Steering problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

The sub-frame/cradle 54400-0w00 on the passenger side is rotted out to the point that it will not pass a PA state inspection. This was found by my mechanic while he was replacing the front rotors and brakes. My mechanic has ordered a new sub frame + bolts to replace the rotted out sub-frame. I wonder how many other sub-frames are rotted out on Pathfinders from 1996 to 2004 which is when Nissan used this particular part. My concern is if this part fails completely what will happen??? I have restricted driving my Pathfinder until the new part is installed. I think someone should look into this problem, because when it fails and it will someone will get hurt or even killed? the control arms mounted to this part which controls steering. This part plus labor will cost me about $1500. 00.

35 Steering problem of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

When turning left or right with steering wheel there is a quarter of a turn before the vehicle starts to turn and when traveling on the freeway this causes me to drift into other lanes . This delay when I turn the steering wheel and the car doesn't turn is very scary. It is almost like when you hit an ice patch and apply the breaks and the vehicle keeps going in the forward direction.
