1 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

2004 Nissan Quest. Consumer states safety problem with the power windows and power doors the consumer stated the passenger side window would not stay closed. When the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, he was informed to fix the problem it would require replacing the motor, which would be very expensive. The consumer declined the repair. Later on, the window reverted back to its proper closing procedure and operated as it was designed. However, the driver's window would not close automatically and the consumer was forced to hold down the button manually. The door on the passenger side would not close completely. It would stop about half way. The consumer had to physically push the door closed which lasted for weeks. Then, suddenly the door began closing correctly without any attempt at repair. The sliding door on the driver's side didn't function as it should. It all started when the consumer's grandson was exiting the vehicle by pushing the open button from the inside. As he was getting out, the door reversed itself before it opened completely and began closing, hitting him and wouldn't stop as it was supposed to when meeting an object. Fortunately, he was only frightened, but not injured. The door continued to malfunction, so the consumer no longer used it anymore. The consumer referenced recall # 04v186000. However, his VIN was not included in the recall.

5 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/20/2008

Passenger side sliding door fails to latch or pops open when driving and the temperature outside is below 30 degrees fahrenheit. This vehicle has been taken back to the dealer at least 4 or 5 times so far. This renders the vehicle inoperative until the door latches shut. This is endangering our children who sit in car seats in the second row of seats in the Quest.

6 Door Latch problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/30/2007

Passenger sliding door motor died in sept. Was replaced. Last week door started sticking again and then fell off the track into the street while driving. Had to be towed and take a cab home. Dealership trying to blame it on an accident that happened before the first motor was replaced. Nissan has not gotten back to us yet. I had a 2 month old baby in the car when this happened. I do not feel safe driving this car any longer. I like Nissan, this is my 4th car from them but I believe the door was not properly reinstalled.

7 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

Sliding doors on both sides of 2004 Nissan Quest have at times [5], failed to stay open, and attempted to crush persons in door area. There is apparently no safety feature built into system.

8 Door Latch problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/07/2007

Nissan 2006 Quest weak front door hinges. The van is less than 1 year old and the door catches when trying to exit vehicle. Took to dealer and they stated those are "light hinges" and they been in production since 2003 and they, "Nissan", hasn't had any problems because of them. They siliconed and greased door hinges and the rubber door seal and said that's what a person needs to do. This could be a dangerous situation in the event and elderly or small person needs to exit vehicle in an emergency. I have to bump it pretty good with my shoulder to get the door open. The silicone and grease works for now but I can see hinge pins, latching mechanisms, and door seals wearing out quickly.

9 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/23/2007

When the outside temperature gets below freezing - 25 degrees f or lower - and the 2004 Nissan Quest is outside, the doors (when opened) freeze in the open position. The latch will not engage until it warms up.

10 Door Latch problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 08/06/2006

Passenger sliding door does not open automatically or manually.

11 Door Latch problem of the 1998 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/13/2006

Have had a problem with doors automatically locking since early in the vehicle's life. Attempted to take it in prior to warranty expiration but dealer could never replicate problem, and thus went unfixed. Now the problem occurs regularly. Can unlock door with key (keyless entry no longer works) and before we get the door open, it locks again. All doors do not always lock when front locks are engaged. Can lock vehicle, return and open side door before front door is unlocked and alarm begins sounding. Found very similar complaints posted and know personally of one other owner who has the exact same problem. Very dangerous situation with children in the car.

12 Door Latch problem of the 1999 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/26/2006

Driver side sliding door handle broke off when attempting to open this door. The door could no longer be opened from exterior. Operated intermittently from inside afterwards. Clearly a safety hazard during emergencies as passengers could not exit vehicle via this door any longer.

13 Door Latch problem of the 2005 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

: the contact stated the automatic sliding door failed to stop when objects were in the way. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was alerted.

14 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 03/28/2006

Purchased this vehicle 3 months ago, used. We have had nothing but problems since. The main problems are: the roof leaks, whether it's the sunroof or something else causing the leak remains to be seen. Dealer claims no leak found, but everytime it rains there is water in the van, which now reeks of mold. The passenger power sliding door will not close properly on the first try. It keeps opening up right as it goes to close. Dealer claims fixed but still have to make 2 or 3 attempts before it will finally work. Door would not close at all 2 times in the last week. Manual override did not release the door. After waiting 5 minutes and trying again, the door would finally shut. The a/c does not blow out cool air on very hot (over 80 degrees) days.

15 Door Latch problem of the 2002 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 03/17/2006

The door handles on the Nissan Quest came off in my hands while I was trying to open the sliding doors. The consequence was that neither of the sliding doors will open and the inside handles were not working either. Nothing was done to fix them, even though I have the best extended warranty Nissan offered, door handles were not covered. They claimed that I ripped them off with undue force.

16 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/25/2006

I own a 2004 Nissan Quest se. There seems to be a serious defect with the safety features on the power sliding doors. While out one afternoon, my son decided that he would press the button to close the power sliding door on his side. I had bent down to tie his shoe and failed to notice that he didn't move his hand out of the way after he had pressed the button to close the door. Unfortunately, the power sliding door completely closed on my 3-year-old son's hand. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured (broken bones, etc). However, I feel as if this is a serious problem that Nissan needs to address soon. Also, there have also been a few times where the doors have been closing, and, for whatever reason, my husband or I have tried to stop them. We literally have to put all of our strength into stopping the moving doors, and even then, sometimes they continue to close without hesitation. The powered back hatch/door on the van is very sensitive to anything being in the way; I don't understand why the power sliding doors aren't just as sensitive. I desperately hope Nissan will correct this major problem before someone becomes seriously injured.

17 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/07/2006

2004 Quest, when it is cold out the side doors wont open, have to pull on them hard and then maybe eventually they will open, or have to wait for the van to warm up on the inside for doors to be able to open. Not a convenient problem when children need to be take to school early in the morning. Taken to dealership, and technician advised me it was a common problem and "deal" with it.

18 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/06/2006

The driver's side sliding door, not powered, will open up when accelerating or going around a curve. The door will not close when the temp is below 32 degrees. Obviously this is dangerous when my 6 month old infant is in the car when the door opens up. The Nissan dealer was told about it 4 times and today, again, it was not even looked at. Does my infant have to fall out of the car before this problem will be taken seriously? how do I get this fixed? the recall was on the power door and not on the other one. There is a problem on both types of doors and this is not acknowledged.

19 Door Latch problem of the 2005 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

I have had the van in the shop at least 4 times(~15 days) with ongoing problems which include: the windows failing to roll up when button is pushed, the gas gauge failing to register gas after filling it up, the gas meter after a half a tank never registers correctly (when light indicates no gas and tank is filled the van will only take 16 gallons and owners manual indicates a 20 gallon tank), the transmission slips, the sliding doors squeak and rattle, rear interior clamps on floor of car are rusting, idiot lights come on intermittently, the gaskets on the doors are coming off, the heated seats haven't worked in high and low, the entertainment system doesn't respond to rear av, and the air conditioner is not cool enough and it stinks. The automatic slide doors will not stop for small objects but this product was designed for families. These doors will remove a child's finger and the switch to initiate the auto slide is low, where one child can push it while another is getting in, or has their hand in the way and didn't realize their brother pushed the button. I did my own little research test, I got pencils and everywhere I placed a pencil the door closed with the pencil being snapped into many pieces and crunched up in the door. Then I tried the same thing on my friend's Honda, but the Honda's auto slide doors bounced off every time. Nissan only designed their doors to respond to large extremities. I have an attorney and I am going through a process for lemon law. I didn't realize the issues with the van in a few days so I don't think Nissan service will resolve all these issues in 2 days with a special Nissan engineer sent out from the company as part of my lemon law process. And in regards to the sliding door concerns all anyone will say is that the doors are performing the way they were designed to. So Nissan designed a product for families that will remove a small hand or finger.

20 Door Latch problem of the 1997 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 09/03/2005

The car locks spontaneously and constantly. It is a known defect (service bulletin 98068). We did not purchase the car while it was under warranty from the manufacturer, however since this is such a safety concern (my 2 year old nephew was locked in the car in his car seat over labor day weekend), I feel the manufacturer should pay to have it fixed. They are refusing.

24 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/19/2005

1- normaly exiting the car my 3. 5 yr old son got his right foot crushed by the right passenger automatic sliding door which started closing by itself. 2-even after recall has been performed for the sliding doors not locking this door seems to have a mind of its own and it is not acceptable nor safe that we can't exit the vehicle without fear of injury!!! specially for both of my young sons. - at his moment the car has been reported 2 times to the car dealer and the fix has been the additional lubrication of the door and cleaning of the contacts. In addition to the recall repairs to the locking mechanism which has never been and issue. Last, my wife was also a victim of this fault with a nasty bruise to her forearm. I truly beleive that immediate action is required from Nissan, to backup the advertised label for the vehicle of mommy car hence young children are comming in and out the car, using this doors since as responsible parents we have assing the back row seat as the safest place.

32 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 08/17/2004

I purchased a 2004 Nissan Quest in may 2004. Had issues with persistent rattles in the driver side sliding door immediately. The vehicle was taken in to the dealer service dept in Aug 2004 for Nissan's "customer satisfaction initiative" which corresponds to TSB ntb04-053. This campaign was to install a door rattle kit fix in addition to 2 other issues. As a result of the door rattle kit fix installation, both of my sliding doors now rattle louder than the driver side door did to begin with.

34 Door Latch problem of the 1998 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 07/29/2004

From the beginning our Nissan van (1998) has had problems with the doors locking after the engine is off and the door is opened. Today, I was almost unable to get out of the van today, as the door keep locking every time I would try to open the handle. If this had been a child, they could have died in the heat (this is the middle of summer in florida) trapped in the car. I have checked to see if there has been any recalls on this problem, but found that only letters were sent out to the consumer regarding this problem. This could result in tradgedy for children, if they are caught in the vehicle. Something needs to be done quickly.
