36 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 07/24/2004

My Nissan Quest has been plagued with electrical problems from day one. The windows go down completely on their own with vehicle turned off. The passenger sliding door opens randomly on its own. The tire alarm goes off when tire pressure is fine. Air vents fly off and lights fall out of the ceiling. Most troubling is the automatic side sliding door. Owner's manual stated on page 3-8 the door will reverse direction immediately during power open or close, a warning chime will sound and the door will reverse direction and return to the full open or full close position. The door does not operate this way, the door will not stop when it encounters an object it will continue to push the object in its way. My husband and I have both been caught by the door. It has knocked small children to the ground. I have complained to Nissan , and they insisted that this was the way the door were supposed to operate. The automatic close button is right at the level a small child would put his hand to enter the vehicle and could be easily activated. Nissan says the door is designed to reverse within the last couple inches even though this is contradictory to its manual. Please help before a child is seriously injured.

41 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/24/2004

A newly purchased 2004 Nissan Quest with current mileage of around 4,800 miles when incident happened. While driving on highway, the driver side rear tire suddenly bent and smoke came out. Van was then towed back to dealership and found that the cross member was broken off. Dealership denied warranty coverage because service manager thought that such damage may have been caused by a collision, because he saw a few light scratches and a smaller than 2cm mark on the rim. I am sure that the van was not hit by anything when the tire was bent. The scratches and little mark could be caused by pulling over to shoulder with a bent tire. I pointed to the service manager that the joint of the broken cross member was full of rust, a sign of incomplete sealed over a period of time, obviously not a new damage caused by an accident. Even tried contacting manufacturer many times, but no solution was made because manufacturer makes decision based on dealership statement. Also, squeaking noise has been coming out from rear sliding doors, dealerships stated that they removed doors but no finding and problems still exist.

42 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 04/30/2004

Power side doors will not stop forward motion unless object is within a very small safety zone approximately in the middle of the door. Also, great force is required to stop forward motion (adult male, both hands pulling hard). Finally, with child lock 'on', power button by door will still allow child to close the door from inside and crush whatever he sticks out. Nissan mechanic assured me this is by design and cannot be changed.

43 Door Latch problem of the 1996 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 04/23/2004

I submitted complaint request 10051248 in December 2003. No one has contacted me about the side door continually unlatching.

44 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 04/19/2004

Van right auto sliding door flew open on my 3 children going 50mph 11 yr. Old son had to hold door closed with his body and feet until safely stop. Door going back and forth, would not stay closed, would not stay opened!!! dealership had to unhook battery to get the door to disengage! said probably minor problem. Contacted sales dept - problems from 1st week with van. No contact for several days, contacted them. Would be a week or two to replace part. No call again. Called them 4th week. Serv. Dept. Said new bulletin (not a recall) did not have replace. Part. When picked up in summer began to have major rattling in side doors, rear door, 2nd & 3rd row seats. Took back to dealership, did some adjustments needs body shop work, to set up apointment. No call. Door came open again with my children +2 onboard while driving. One week in shop, many things replaced including hinges and latches on doors and seats. Got home, auto door still broken. Back again. Some more adjustments. Current problems same,no solutions . All documented invoices. Poor response from Nissan consumer regional manager. Rude! no apology for safety concerning my family. Put burden on me for proof of malfunctions!.

45 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 03/10/2004

During cold weather it would be hard for the consumer to close the rear passenger door. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

46 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/23/2004

Vehicle power sliding doors and power rear hatch opening intermittently while vehicle is in motion. Power sliding doors moving erratically(sometimes fast, sometimes slow). Power sliding doors pinch protection (reversal of door if object is caught in between) is not sensitive enough. Dealer states it is working normal.

47 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/15/2004

Power sliding doors rattle severly and do not close properly. Sometimes the latch in the door sticks in the closed position and will not allow the door to close and latch. Back hatch opens on its own. This has happened 4 times, once as we were backing out of the garage and it ripped off the cover over the license plate lights. Sometimes the ignition switch will not turn to the off position. The key will not come out of the ignition if the switch is not in the off position. The vehicle has been in for service for these issues 3 times with no success.

48 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/09/2004

We purchase a 2004 Nissan Quest minivan approximately 3 months ago. The van has had door rattle problems from day one. The rear door rattled and the dealer has replaced a hinge that seems to have fixed that. Both sliding door rattle like a bucket of bolts. The car has been taken to service now 3 times for this. We were finally told that this was a known issue with the latches, but there was no fix from Nissan for this. A $38,000 vehincle that rattles down the road due to poor quality with no fix known is unacceptable.

49 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/06/2004

While driving at any speed passenger's side automatic door opened. When the door opened it would not close or latch. Fortunately consumer's child at that moment was not in the vehicle. Rope was used to hold the door closed.

50 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/28/2004

Car was brought in for a recall of the airbag sensor and the automatic sliding side door. Airbag sensor is still not functioning properly after 4 attempts at fixing it. Side door not properly functioning but service department can't 'duplicate' it so they say it's fine. Car is still in the shop, will be for a total (for this trip) of almost 4 weeks, until a rep from Nissan comes to try and fix it. Electrical system is a mess, lights, windows, power seats, doors, seem to act on their own. Nissan refuses to believe me! driver side passenger (non-power) door sticks, can barely open it myself. Flat tire light comes on when temperature outside dips. Beware of airbag sensor, try to check it yourself using different weight people. Very dangerous!.

51 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/27/2004

2004 Nissan Quest - passenger sliding door would not close after repeated attempts. This has occured many times over the last four months. Dealer has tried to fix twice and have had parts on order for 27 days in which we've been without the car. Also, sliding doors do not stop when small children get between door and car.

52 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/19/2004

Side doors open while driveing when outside temp is below 30 degrees.

53 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/16/2004

Problems with the closing of the 2004 Nissan Quest sliding doors. One of the sliding doors was not closing all the in due to problems with the automatic closing. Sometimes, the door doesn't close at all. The problem was brought to the attention of Nissan dealer three times. The first two times, Nissan claimed that it was fixed, but obviously not. Now the vehicle is with the dealer for a week, still not fixed.

54 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/15/2004

I recently purchased a 2004 Nissan Quest, one week after ownership the passenger side power door began and has continued to rattle, the van has been to the dealership with no positive results, the dealer states that there is "no fix" for the problem yet althought they acknowledge the problem exists, more seriously, three times the van has failed to shift properly, upon a dead stop the van is stuck in a high gear 3rd, 4th, or overdrive. Acceleration is almost imposible and unsafe as I am unable to bring the van up to speed with the gas pedal fully pressed! the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem so it continues.

55 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/15/2004

Passenger side power sliding door will not stay closed.

56 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/14/2004

I have had a continuing problem with the rear sliding doors on my new 2004 Nissan Quest. What started as an excessive amount of rattling of the rear doors has escalated to the point where the doors do not function properly. I've taken the Quest in to have the doors adjusted five times at the local Nissan dealer and the doors continue to rattle. The local Nissan dealer was actually able to stop the driver's side door from rattling, but this resulted in a door not able to be opened using the exterior handle, you had to use the key-fob or interior switches (not acceptable in a $33,000 automobile). The car was brought back in for service and while the door now operates (sort of see below), the rattling is back. The local Nissan dealer where I bought the car does not know what else to do without input direct from Nissan - I hope they are working on a solution to the Quests sliding door problems! the problems with my vehicles rear sliding doors continue to get worse. On Wednesday, January 14, 2004 I had a problem with both sliding doors; neither was able to be closed. Miles from home in subzero weather with a car whose siding rear doors would not close bet you can imagine how happy I was. Thank god I figured out how to operate the doors manually. This story only gets worse! after manually closing the doors, I switched on the doors again for electrical operation and commenced my travel towards home; imagine my horror when traveling down the road at about 45 mph to have the passenger side rear slider opened up all on its own. Can you imagine what might have occurred if I had had my young 9 year old daughter in the back. Horror doesn't come close to being an adequate description. Nissan has released an inferior and unsafe product for sale to an unsuspecting public. This car is a disaster waiting to happen, and so far nothing has been done to correct the situation.

57 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/10/2004

I own an sl purchased in oct 2003. There has been one continual problem and three new problems recently. First the new problems: the past 2 weeks temps have been in single digits and there has been no snow or rain. I have had to keep car in driveway. During these past weeks I've experienced three problems, one of which infuriated me. First two items - passenger window will not open and car does not 'beep' when I lock from remote (which makes me have to turn back and double check the doors only to find it has indeed locked)- are annoying and I attributed them to the temperature. The third problem occurred yesterday: passenger side automatic sliding door would not close once opened. It would beep, slide almost closed, then open right up again. I could not force it to remain closed. This happened in a grocery store parking lot, temperature was -1 degrees, car had a couple hundred dollars worth of purchases inside, and I had my very young child with me. After checking manual and speaking with people at the Nissan dealership (neither of which were helpful, to be honest) I tried cleaning the tracks around door. There was no ice, dirt, sand, etc. And still the door would not close. I was told by the dealership that there was no manual override which would have allowed me to close the door. Later in the day after the car had been in the sun a few hours, my husband was able to get the door closed enough to grab and lock it. This door issue is unacceptable. We have three young children and purposely bought this car for it's reliability and safety. There was nothing reliable nor safe about what happened to us yesterday. Another problem: a creaking, squeaky noise comes from the back of the van while driving. Sounds like an old schoolbus. Dealership has no idea of cause. Were told to bring van in for service.

58 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/02/2004

I purchased 2004 Quest in fall 2003. To date I have had the automatic door break 4 times, fuel pump and fuel chamber replaced, van will not accelerate periodically, brakes sqeak repaired but ow worse, sonar malfunction, no sound from radio/dvd/cd random occurance. The van has been in shop approximatley 10 times in ten months for extended time and problems are no better than 10 months ago. Nissan consumer affairs has not provided any resolution or effort to properly fix problems.

59 Door Latch problem of the 1996 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/29/2003

I have a Nissan Quest 1996 - I reported a door latch popping open in April 2001 when the car had 50,000 miles. Since then the latch was replaced and has been adjusted a number of times. The door continues to fail and pop open or rather go ajar and the inside lights illuminate. This makes for a number of unsafe driving conditions. First the door could slide open all the way endangering my children. If I were to be in an accident, there is no guarantee that the door will remain closed and intact. Third, driving at night and suddenly have the interior lights illuminate make it difficult to see and drive. The original complaint was odi745323. I recently spoke directly with jeff austin at Nissan consumer division - phone number 1-800-nissan1 extension 8441. He indicated that there was not any record of this occurring in other vehicles and spoke to the dealership - they told me since I was the only complaint and the mileage was over 60,000 there was nothing that they could do to assist me and that I should seek body repair to resolve the problem. This has been occurring for the last 30,000 miles and is going on 4 years. I refuse to pay anything further to have this rectified. This is a defect and needs to be resolved to my satisfaction. I had spoken previously with dan neff (310) 771-5463 and the initial change of the lock mechanism appeared to help for a short period. I paid for that fix. Shortly after I spoke with mr. Neff the problem began occurring again and has since that time. Nissan has been unwilling to believe that there is a problem, and yet there have been numerous other incidents as demonstrated by the web page search including odi's 602908, 703853, 845494, 721420, 864190, 10049456, 863863, 754162, 602996, 848600, 745164, 745414, 10001339, 10022724 I want this issue resolved, I want the door fixed and I do not feel that I am responsible for paying anything further to ensure that this defect is repaired to my satisfaction.

60 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/03/2003

Consumer had problems trying to reopen the automatic sliding passenger door from the inside/outside. Dealerships mechanic was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

61 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/29/2003

Purchased 2004 Nissan Quest on 10/25/03. Rattling sound from driver side rear sliding door one week after purchase. 5 attempts to have it repaired. On 11/29/03 door opened while driving with children in back seat.

62 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/29/2003

On 10/25/03 we purchased a 2004 Nissan Quest. Within one week of purchase we notice a loud rattling noise coming from the driver side rear sliding door. After 2 attempts to repair at the dealership the noise was attenuated but still persisted. After the 2nd visit the rattling sound expanded to include a creaking noise each time we braked. On 11/29/03 the rear driver side sliding door would not open so we placed our children in the van using the automatic sliding door on the rear passenger side. After buckling the children in we stared the van and left for home. At approximately 11:55pm the driver side rear door popped open!!! on 12/01/03 my wife brought the van back to the dealership for the fourth time, where an attempt was made to fix the rattling again and the doors were adjusted. On 12/02/03 three hours after picking up the car from the dealership the driver side passenger door locked again and the automatic door went into a spasm where it would start to close but then pop back open. We eventually were able to close the doors but the rattling persisted. The locking and jamming of the doors is inconsistent but the rattling sound occurs whenever we go over 35 mph. We are now scheduled to bring the car in for its 5th visit to the service center in 5 weeks. This door not only has rattled and shook during the time we have had it, it now will sometimes not open and even worse can pop open while the car is moving. This is unsafe and the experience of watching my kids look outside of an open door in a moving car was harrowing. I hope the doors never open on a child who is not properly buckled in.

63 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/25/2003

The passenger side automatic sliding door opened intermittently while the vehicle was in motion or when it was sitting still. When the door opened it was difficult to close. In one instance the door actually shut on the consumer. The manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.

64 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/05/2003

Power doors , liftgate, and sun roof occasionally fail to open and close.

65 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 10/23/2003

Shortly after purchasing vehicle rear sliding doors creek and rattle. The vehicle has been to the dealership four times and problem still exhists. The passenger side door leaks after it rains and the dealership has not been able to duplicate the problem so no fix has been made. Windows periodically roll down on their own and the dealership states it's a feature but problem exhists when pressing the automatic lock feature not just the unlocking feature. When car is running and a/c is started a loud kick in the engine occurs. Van has failed to start and part had to be replaced in the engine.

66 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 10/10/2003

2004 Nissan Quest: power door opened while van was moving.

67 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 09/23/2003

I bought this 2004 Nissan Quest se on September 18, 2003 and took a road trip visit my daughter 1300 miles away form my home. During the trip, we noticed air infiltration from the passengers door and the right side sliding door. In addition to the air leaks, the right sliding door and the rear hatch rattled, sometimes constantly and other times when passing over irregularities in the pavement. I took the van to the dealer on numerous occasions and it still is not fixed. This since these are power doors I would expect that there is a positive latch upon closing, however I was asked if I stopped and cycled the door. I have found the side doors and rear hatch to be not latched tightly on at least six occasions. In addition, the power sliding doors do not always open from commands to the door handle. On one visit, the dealer replaced the mask, other parts on rear lift gate and adjusted the rear latch, and it still rattles. I found the upper tailgate stoplight to also have loose parts inside it (has not been fixed yet). The right and left rear vent windows were rattling and found to be loose at the hinges. Both rear tail light assemblies were found to have loose structural parts internally. Left one has been replaced with one that don't rattle. However, a look at the new Quests on the dealers lot found most to all taillights rattled. During the trip the van was hard to control and drifted to the left at highway speeds, when I got to my daughters house I made an appointment to have it fixed, a week later they supposedly aligned it, but it was still noticeable. In December at my home I took it in again and the alignment was good but the steering was about 4 inches cockeyed. Which was fixed at at a later visit. I have owned two Nissan vehicles at a time for the more than the last decade and this does not represent my experiences with those vehicles.

68 Door Latch problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 09/16/2003

I purchased my 2004 Nissan Quest in September 2003. The day I drove the vehicle off the lot the sliding doors began to rattle and haven't stopped since. I have taken the vehicle to two different dealers for a total of nine times. The dash reflects in the windshield making it a hazard to drive, the driver's door has a squeak when opening that is caused by the hinge flexing where it is attached to the body. Have been told by dealer this cannot be fixed. The sliding door panel on the driver's side rear, protrudes about 1/8" from the body and has a dent in the corner of the panel and have been told by dealer this cannot be fixed. I paid over $31k for this car and it seemingly cannot be fixed no matter what is wrong. I have contacted Nissan 5 times by telephone and on one ever returns my calls.

69 Door Latch problem of the 1996 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 07/31/2003

1996 Nissan Quest doors lock and unlock on their own.

70 Door Latch problem of the 2001 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/30/2003

Vibration felt in front end and pulling to left. Steering wheel shook and was difficult to control over 55 mph. Serviced several times at dealer. Mechanic could not reproduce the problem. Stated it could be the tires. Had tires aligned and rotated, no change. Bought new tires, still no change. Foul odor smells like sulfur. Dealer stated it is from the cheap gas purchased from military installation gas stations. Drove vehicle until almost empty then fill tank at shell station. Foul odor returned when fuel was at 1\2 tank. Hard start upon ignition sounds like metal rubbing against metal. Air conditioner very loud and noisy. Dealer found to be normal. Side window latch popped open when door closed and after hitting a bump. Sliding door stuck sometimes very difficult to open.
