Important: if you have a complaint about your transmission, acceleration problems or loss of power you need to also a complaint with the federal trade commission (ftc 877-382-4357) regarding your dealings with Nissan. I just spoke with the ftc and they told me that while they don't respond to individual complaints if they see patterns they do. The only way we will get Nissan to respond to us is by complaining about their business practices as well as their safety issues. These dealerships and corporate consumer affairs know that until enough of us complain to the right people and stop just paying for Nissan's known problems with the cvt and other issues, they will keep giving us the run around. I have to put my 2nd transmission in my 2008 Rogue in 12 months. Nissan tells me my last new transmission (April 2014) was out of the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. Their business practices are horrible. These cars are unsafe and putting people in danger. Please make your voice known at the ftc as well as here. Tell others to do the same. We deserve better. Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired it was discovered there was a leakage from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure was 114,000. Ak.
Driving over a rail road track the vehicle lost all power. The cable ass control to the transmission broke off. When we had notify Nissan of the part we needed, we were told that it would be a while before we could get this part that there were over 20 people ahead of us for this part. So I am writing to inform you of a safety issue. This could have created a very bad accident.
On 11/20/14 I was on highway 80 driving from roseville CA to palo alto CA . I was in the far left lane (4 total) in heavy traffic doing aprx 50 mph. With no warning I couldn't accelerate and the engine only revved when I pushed the gas pedal. I cut off several cars to get to the right side shoulder. After I called aaa a chp showed up to see if I was ok. I explained what happened and a tow truck would arrive in about 2 hour due to traffic. The officer said because of my location I needed to remain in my car until a tow truck arrived. He also said he would remain with me until help arrived. I was towed to a shop in fairfield CA (closest city). Paid $3,758 to have an independent shop install a new Nissan cvt transmission. Found out later Nissan had extended the power train warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles. My car was well within the warranty requirements. I have spoken to 2 Nissan representatives and both told me because they didn't do the repair there was nothing they would do. I explained I was from oregon and needed to be home by Saturday to work. The shop that did the work had me on the road the next day. They said because they installed a Nissan transmission it would be warranted by Nissan. I asked if I could send an email to someone higher up explaining my situation and was told there was no need. I asked if they were recording our conversations and was told yes. It is my understanding it's illegal to record a conversation without prior notice or approval. I have checked online and amazed how many people have had similar problems with Nissan. I don't know if anyone has been injured because of this but what is happening is very dangerous and Nissan has known about faulty cvt transmissions for quite some time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate as the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the cvt valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 122,000. Pam.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact also stated that excessive force was applied to the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. The vehicle was restarted and the vehicle failed to shift out of park. The failure occurred on three different occasions. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,354.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle's speed suddenly decreased. The contact drove onto the emergency lane, shut off and restarted the vehicle, and continued driving; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Traveling long distance on the highway. Engine would not respond to the accelerator in a normal manner accompanied by whiny noises. Pressed accelerator to the floor and rpms would increase extremely slowly and not above 3000 rpms. Continued for the remaining 2. 5 hours of our trip. This happened again on our way home multiple times. Had extreme difficulty after exiting the highway and having to stop. Vehicle barely moved forward.
Driving and suddenly the car went from 70mph to 50mph. Unable to get it to go any faster. Transmission in some sort of safe mode from overheating or something. I was almost run into by the car behind me. This is the 4th time this has happened and every time I have only narrowly avoided a collision. Nissan says they have a fix for the problem, however the parts are on restriction, meaning that the dealer can't even get them in. This needs to be fixed and a recall issued ASAP before people start dying from this problem.
When driving at highway speed there is a sudden loss of power no matter how far you depress the accelerator the vehicle will not go any faster and you are coasting you can not go any faster. This happens when going up hill on when there is a greater load on the transmission. You can not maintain speed in heavy traffic this creates a very dangerous condition for the occupants of the car as well as those around them. When taken to the dealer I was told there is a technical bulletin for all rouges that the transmission over heats and it goes into safety override mode so it doesn't blow up. In light of this all rouges need a transmission cooler installed at a cost of $1300.
We bought a car last Monday on may 26, 2014 at antwerpen Nissan security dealership (1701 woodlawn drive, baltimore, MD 21207). Please find the car details: year: 2008 make: Nissan model: Rogue body type: 4dr sl fwd trim: sl black VIN: jn8as58t28w013971 odometer: 78321 with a dealer warranty for one month or 1000 miles, powertrain only ; for the total cash delivered price of $13,000. 00 (thirteen thousand us dollars) already paid by check on may 26, 2014. The second day we were facing problems with the car as the motor was overheated in very few miles, it was smelling smoky inside and the motor was making cracking noises even when it was turned off. We called immediately the sales manager and let him know that we want to turn the car back as it is not functioning properly. The day after we almost get an accident in the traffic that put our life in danger. The car lost power while driving: gas pedal was fully pushed down and the tachometer showed 3500 rpm while the speed hardly reached 20 mph for about 2 miles till we pulled over at bel air road. We decided to call the general manager for turning the car back as it was within the warranty and I was very clear to him that I do not want that car any more. He agreed to do so, and on last Friday may 30th, 2014, they carried the car from our home location. We requested the money back. Since that day we have being waiting for days and hours in the dealership offices for a response of our request, but they lied to us all the time and last night after many attempts on deaf phone calls the response was: no, they are not giving us the money back. The car dealer pretend that this dangerous car has no problems at all !!!.
May 2014: on a trip to az, vehicle suddenly began to decelerate and could not be driven more than 3000 rpms. Suddenly and drastically slowing down without using brakes and with no brake light warning to following vehicles could have caused a serious rear-end accident. Problem occurred without warning more 20 times. Took Rogue to economy Nissan to repair problem. They replaced dip stick and drained off some transmission fluid and stated this would correct what they said was a transmission fluid overheating problem. July 2014: on another cross country trip problem re-occurred. Went to dave solon Nissan in pueblo colo. They advised not to continue driving Rogue until a transmission cooler kit was installed. This part was on perpetual back order. In reality we were informed that at that time there was no fix for this problem. Because of our schedule, we traded the Rogue in for a used Nissan pathfinder. We later found out that dave solon Nissan got tired of waiting for the part and took Rogue to a car action. It is unclear whether they informed the public of problem or just sold the vehicle with a serious safety problem that could not be corrected. To date there appears to be no fix to this problem. We believe this should be a recall issue given the high potential for serious rear-end accidents.
After driving for about 45 minutes on the highway, the vehicle lost power and began decelerating rapidly. After pushing the gas multiple times, the vehicle remained unresponsive and would not accelerate. The vehicle decelerated to 20mph which was very dangerous in an 80 mph speed zone on a state highway. I pulled over and turned off the vehicle for 30 minutes. Upon starting it up again and continuing on my trip, the vehicle repeated the problem within another hour of driving. When this occurs now, vehicle will not accelerate from a full stop. This is extremely hazardous in toll booths or red lights, as other cars take the liberty of driving by as I am pumping the gas. Randomly the car will kick back into gear and jut out into traffic, which has almost caused two different accidents.
Began to lose power after 2 hours of driving-was told at dealer that car was going into safe mode. Fluids were changed at considerable cost approx 6 months ago. Yesterday I attempted to accelerate from a stop at a traffic signal and without warning I had no power, had to coast to safety. There were no sounds, no lights of warning on dash. Dealership indicates transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $3500. They will not entertain any warranty compensation as we have passes the extended 120,000 warranty. Clearly there is a problem with the cvt component, very disappointing.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitated and shuttered. The contact indicated that the defect was also present while driving at low speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The failure mileage was 146,000.
Car would not shift out of park at times )with brake applied properly), or would eventually shift out of park after many attempts, then failed to shift out of park at all, making the vehicle inoperable. . . Updated 04-16-14.
I noticed a whinning sound coming from my vehicle. I took it to a mechanic who then reported it was the transmission. I then took my car to a Nissan dealership and they confirmed that it was the cvt transmission (carrier bearing area). I was not aware that there had been issues with the cvt transmissions in Nissan. Nissan had extended the warranty however due to me the consumer not being made aware of the issue that Nissan was having, I didn't know that I should be on the look to see if my car was having issues until I heard the whinning sound. I drive a lot for work, therefore my car has 123,233 miles on it but is very well taken care of and is only 5 years old and has no other issues. I am currently battling with Nissan to have them fix their defective product (cvt transmission). Nissan should be made to correct these defects in their products regardless. Nissan knows of the issue, but from the research I've been doing online they are not taking responsibility for the defective products. Americans should not spend their hard earned money on products that are defective and then companies bailing out. Companies need to take responsibility!.
The problem we are having is the car will hesitate as if the engine stalls but the tachometer shows a steady rpm. This hesitation lasts for just a few seconds but is very sudden. The car then starts going as if nothing has happened. There are no lights coming on to indicate any problems. When I have had the car at the dealer they check for a trouble codes and there aren't any. This has happened many times at different speeds and different conditions. The first time I just had turned a corner and started to accelerate and it hesitated three times within 10 to 15 seconds. Our speed dropped to almost a stop then started as if nothing was wrong. Other times I have been accelerating from a stop light and have had the car come almost to a stop. I have almost been rear ended three times. I have been driving at a constant speed on the freeway and had the car drop from 65 mph down to 40 mph in heavy traffic. Again almost causing a major wreck in heavy traffic. The car again started up as if nothing was wrong. Another time I was merging onto the freeway into traffic doing 70mph and had it hesitate down to 40mph in front of a semi. He had to lock his wheels to avoid rear ending me, he could not get over. I should have been able to merge without any trouble. I had enough room had it not hesitated. This last time I was turning across two lanes onto an entrance ramp to the freeway when it came almost to a stop midway across the first lane I was crossing. An oncoming car had to swerve into the right lane to avoid me. Had the car not been able to move right we would have been hit in the passenger door at about 50 mph. My wife could have been killed. I have called the service manager at our dealership but he will not call back. I have called Nissan corporate at 1-800-343-6913 x 458169 and left messages with kelly but she will not return my calls.
While driving 2008 Nissan Rogue on I-17 interstate toward flagstaff, az at posted speed limit of 75 mph, the vehicle experienced rapid loss of speed and power in which pressing down on accelerator had no effect on vehicle. Semi-truck nearly rear ended our vehicle. Driver of semi-truck made sudden lane change to avoid collision. Pulled over to the side of the road and shut vehicle off. Inspected vehicle for any obvious signs of source of malfunction. Restarted vehicle after 20 minutes and resumed travel with no additional problems on this trip. This malfunction has repeated on several occasions since, with more regularity to date. Seems to occur most often when driving to a higher elevation after an hour or more of continuous operation. When malfunction occurs, engine will not exceed 2500-3000 rpms even with gas pedal fully depressed. Since original malfunction, I have also experienced lack of acceleration or hesitation from a complete stop when entering into traffic resulting in potential unsafe condition when entering traffic. Malfunction is intermittent, but extremely more frequent. I have since read many similar complaints on the internet from other owners of same year, make and model vehicle. I feel there should be a recall on this vehicle for this problem.
While driving 2008 Nissan Rogue on highway 70 in new mexico at posted speed limit of 75 mph, the vehicle experienced rapid loss of speed and power in which pressing down on accelerator had no effect on vehicle. This happened first in January 2014 and I took it to Nissan dealer in albuquerque who said nothing was wrong with transmission. Vehicle worked fine for over a year and two months ago again started with this problem. Malfunction is intermittent, but recently more frequent. I brought it to a Nissan dealer in las cruces nm but they didnt have a transmission tech in that day. I was charged a $120 diagnostic fee and told they could find nothing wrong but to bring it back on a day when transmission tech will be in. Its an hour and half drive for me each way. Have since read many similar complaints on the internet from other owners of same year, make and model vehicle. I feel there should be a recall on this vehicle for this problem.
The cvt transmission in this vehicle has already failed once and was replaced. The brand new cvt has less than 5k miles on it and I am experiencing the same problems. The problems include lack of acceleration in the 0-20 zone with accelerator pedal in full accel position there is little to no acceleration. While driving up hills in the entire speed range there is a lack of ability to accelerate especially at freeway speeds creating a potential unsafe slow speeds issue. This is a common problem in the 2008-2010 Rogues. This is unacceptable as this vehicle has been well maintained, has relatively low mileage, and should still be a reliable car, please consider a recall of the cvt's in these vehicles. This should be a safe and reliable vehicle for my family.
The transmission (cvt) is junk. It is a safety hazard. I can not accelerate after coming to a stop or a rolling stop, or when going uphill. I have 3 children & we are lucky we have not been rear ended or tboned yet! the service dept at the dealership wants to change the transmission fluid, spark plugs, and clean the throttle body at a charge! this car only has 38000 miles! I have explained it until I am blue in the face. They test drove it & it did the same thing on them. I researched the issue & realized it is very common. They have extended the warranty to 120,000 or 10 years. I just want the cvt fixed before we are involved in an accident!.
The cvt transmission in the 2008 Nissan Rogue is very dangerous. The car loses acceleration after traveling a distance (over 40 miles) and when it comes to a stop, it will not take off. Saturday, June 8, 2013 I drove from college station, TX to houston, TX (85 miles). When I came a stop sign after exiting the freeway, I stopped and then attempted a right turn into oncoming traffic. Once I depressed the gas, the car rolled into the intersection and stalled with traffic barreling toward me. Cars had to swerve to avoid hitting me. This car has always had acceleration and deceleration problems since I bought it and no warning lights ever come on. The first time the car broke down was on the first road trip I took in the car. In 2012 as I was driving to atlanta, georgia and the car broke completely down in birmingham, alabama. I had to get a loaner from the local dealership in birmingham to complete my trip. The cvt transmission is a very, very dangerous technology and it should be recalled and a class action suit should be initiated against Nissan. Nissan has extended the warranty from 60000 to 120000 in all cvt transmission vehicles. Why would they do this if they do not think there is a problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,421. Ss.
My Nissan Rogue has been to the dealership 3 times (tomorrow makes 3) to have the transmission replaced. The transmission went out in August 2012, April 2013 and now again July 2013. I was told the Nissan dealership that this is a known issue with the crt transmission. My car gets up to about 70 miles per hour and then I'm literally push the gas pedal to the floor and my car won't go over 40-50 miles per hour. Now my car is lunging forward when it's at a complete stop. I asked Nissan what would happen if the transmission goes out again after repairs tomorrow and I was told they will just keep repairing it until my warranty is up and then unfortunately I'd be on my own.
While traveling on highway car lost power and would not accelerate past 35mph. Upon exit from highway, would not go past 20 mph. Took car to dealer and was told it needed a transmission oil change. This weekend it occurred again. My son was driving it and it became too dangerous to attempt crossing an intersection. Returned to dealer and they said it needed another transmission fluid change. There is no indicator light, no error code to tell you the transmission needs service. The manual is vague with regards to change intervals. Luckily my son is an adult who knew how to handle the situation. An inexperienced, elderly or even distracted driver could have been severely injured. My son was glad he was not rear ended when he did not proceed into the intersection.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 72 mph as she attempted to accelerate, the vehicle became unresponsive and would not gain any speed. The failure recurred a few hours later. The vehicle was taken to a transmission mechanic who advised that there were no failures found within the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 76,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 11/13/12 updated 11/27/2012.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the brakes failed without any warning light illumination. The contact had to pull the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission, fuel gauge, and master cylinder all needed to be repaired. The contact was also informed of an electrical failure with the air bags. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 33,000.
Several times in the past few months, Rogue will not accelerate when trying to go from stopped position. No power to go uphill or pull into traffic. This does not happen all the time, only occasionally, but is happening more often. Yesterday, car did this while traveling at speed of 55+ mph. This was the first time it slowed while already at high speed. My daughter drives this vehicel and we are parking it for now as there have been several incidences where she has almost been hit by oncoming cars.
We were completely stopped at a stop sign waiting to pull out into traffic. There were cars coming but at a safe enough distance so we accelerated, got into the roadway and the car wouldn't move. We had the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the car wouldn't move. Since then we have had multiple incidents of this where the transmission freezes and we are stuck in oncoming traffic. It's only a matter of time before someone hits us. Since I have read of multiple problems exactly like this with this vehicle. Why hadn't there been a recall.
Stopped at a stop sign. Pushed the accelerator but the car would not accelerate. Continued down the road and could not go above 40 mph on the highway. Stopped the car at the side of the road, turned off the car. Thought maybe just a hiccup and would return to normal. Started it up and began to drive and still was unable to accelerate above 40 mph on the highway. Called the shop and let them know I was on my way. On the way to the shop the car ran fine, going normal speed. The dealer was unable to find any record in the computer of the problem and so far has been unable to diagnose the problem.
Vehicle has been popping in and out of gear, lurching, stopping for the last two days. Today in lurched forward, launching us down an icy hill, after doing 5 or 6 360 degree spins, we stopped at the bottom of the hill. Only by sheer luck, did we not hit anything. This seems like a very dangerous problem that others have had. Is Nissan doing anything about it?.
3 times now my 2008 Nissan Rogue has had acceleration problems on the highway. It happened the 1st time on Aug. 20, 2011 then again on sept. 5, 2011. Both times I was driving on the highway, at 60-65mph when suddenly, the car would not go over 40mph even when the gas pedel was floored. I have read online many people are having this same issue with the cvt transmission. I feel this car is unsafe-as you can not move the car up to speed to get it out of the way of on coming traffic. I have an appointment with the Nissan dealer on sept. 10-but they are telling me they have not heard of this problem.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift out of park. After repeated attempts, the gear shift finally shifted out of park. The failure recurred whenever the contact attempted to shift the vehicle from park. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the shift assembly would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000. The VIN was unavailable.
