1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2025

Me and my partner were giving a car for her birthday I use it more for work they gave us title but lately I been experiencing hits in car that we haven’t done or crash anyone or anything and also air bag activation and other problems the one has me worry is that rpm loses gas power on free way can’t go over then 20 loses power.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2023

I have no back tail lights , mechanic says it's an electrical issue yrans module needs fixed right front hub bearing and head light switch, my air bag system is constantly on my car cruise control system is messed up the cruise control steering switch needs to be replace my cars control panel all messed up.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

Just bought my 2011 Nissan Rogue today and drove around off and on all day with no issues. I went to my son's house for approximately 5 minutes (left car running) and when I went to leave I had no acceleration. I tried pushing on the gas pedal with no luck. It literally coasted about a block before it finally stopped moving. I made a few phone calls and was told to shut the car off for about 5 minutes (which I did) and then turn it back on (which I did) and I put it in drive and it was all of a sudden fine. I feel as if there has been more than enough complaints regarding this issue with the 2011 Nissan Rogue and NHTSA should address this matter with Nissan who should be held accountable for this. I personally bought the vehicle based on all the good things I was told about it but now, not even 24 hours after buying it, I am regretting my decision. I should have stuck with my kia soul (she never let me down)!! I feel this is a huge safety issue.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2021

Im having issues accelerating since I purchased the car, the transmission is bad , there is cut electric wires by the brake and gas pedal. When breaking there's knocking, pinging, the brakes shakes. I almost got into 4 accidents with my family and child. I was told by dealer it was the reg gas I put in the tank but then got carfax history and seen a mechanic and was told transmission is bad the light is on dash. At 25mph the rpm jumps up and down. Gas tank reads incorrectly.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

I am having the same issue that most people are complaining about. Vehicle will not accelerate after being driven for 45 minutes or longer. Happened to me four times while driving for 2 hours. Once on the highway and three other times on a city road with vehicles stuck behind me. One of those times I had no where to pull off and sat on the road. This should be a major concern for Nissan and the NHTSA. Sooner or later someone is going to get seriously injured or worse. Instead, we are pouring our money into a vehicle with no way to fix it. I have about 100,000 miles and kept a good job of maintenance on the vehicle. Please address this situation!.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Another in the long list of people who are experiencing vehicle disabling features due to Nissan's engineering failures. It's wild that there isn't more protection from huge corporate bullies like Nissan. Garbage product with no trust behind the name. My hope is that people read these and start telling Nissan with your wallets. Don't buy. Just like the others when car is in use for more than 45 minutes, heat causes the governor to disable speed to the point where my family has almost been rear ended on several occasions. This isn't a one time occurrence, it happens weekly. Nissan claims there is nothing wrong and/or no fix. Car is worth nothing and is barely worth driving. Way to stick it to the little guy Nissan.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

Passenger airbag sensor blinks due to a malfunction. Cost to fix is $3k due to having to replace the passenger seat where the sensor is, which is half the value of the vehicle. This has been blinking for the past year and is extremely distracting and dangerous while driving. Not sure if this means that the passenger airbag will not deploy, which is *extremely* dangerous. Additionally, when traveling, the vehicle often loses acceleration, even with the gas pedal all the way down. It becomes extremely difficult and dangerous to stop or turn. The steering wheel loses power steering, and the brakes do not engage quickly at all.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2020

Lost excceleration would not go above 60 mph, the rpms were going over 3 I had to pull over on the highway. There was no warning light or anything it just happened, it eventually started back up but soon lost power again, I was barely able to turn onto the street going to the auto shop where I purchased the vehicle. I owned this vehicle less than a year only 4 months when this happened. This was a very alarming situation I almost got ran over thankfully I was able to pull over. They checked it out and couldn't find anything then finally said it was the transmission then also mentioned that I had a problem with the axle which was leaking and costed me more money, which I don't think I should have had to pay since I only had it for 4 months. This vehicle is unsafe and I don't feel safe driving it anymore since I got it back. I have done research and see that this vehicle has been recalled I had no idea to even look for a recall on this vehicle. I have a friend who has a 2016 that has the same problem recently happen to her on the road.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

After traveling an hour or so on the interstate at posted speed limits the vehicle looses acceleration slowly till it will not go anymore. Have had to pull off at an exit once & the shoulder twice now. No loss in power to the vehicle. It just wont go. Sat for 30 minutes with the hood up to allow it to cool. Was able to drive the other 30 minutes of the trip. Seems to be a known issue for this vehicle. It looks like they took care of the older Rogues, but not the 2011 with the same cvt transmission. The vehicle has worked fine for the 150k miles it has on it. Just a very unsafe issue this vehicle is having. No confidence on my daughter traveling in it back & forth to college anymore with it acting this way. Hopefully Nissan will step up & correct this issue.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

I was driving on the njtp and the speed limit is 65 and my car wouldn't pass 40mph. I decided to get off on the next exit and when I came to the light I stopped. When the light turned green I couldn't move forward. I was stuck. After about 5 minutes I was able to go again. This is not the only time this has happened.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

Car started making slight whirring noise when accelerating. Took it in to be looked at and they couldn't find an issue. Went another week and the noise got worse and starting skipping and losing power when I tried to accelerate after it's been sitting for a few hours, mostly just in first gear. Almost got in an accident pulling into traffic and lost complete power for a few seconds, was lucky enough to get into a turn lane before I got hit by oncoming traffic. Took it to another mechanic and determined it was transmission and needs to be replaced. They're telling me my car could turn into a giant paperweight at any moment.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

This vehicle is very dangerous to operate on warmer days. The transmission seems to overheat very easily causing the vehicle to go into a fail-safe "limp mode". This is very dangerous as it occurs on the highway, on hills, mountain roads, and with my children in the car. It has placed me in dangerous safety situations and the dealership and manufacturer acknowledge the issue exists but take no further action in correcting the dangerous flaw.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Turning onto exspress way car would not accelerate to desired speed to enter highway . Happens other times just in driving the car will not have any acceleration power when trying to accelerate . Vehicle was in motion on a highway ,. Cars behind me honking horns some going around me. I believe it to be cvt and transmission . Luckily I finally made it onto highway. Times like this happens too frequently ! so far I have not had an accident but if I have to keep driving this car ,I don't know . I have heard from other people that this problem is still ongoing and no action has been taken by Nissan other than refusing to reimburse them . Some one has to take action and make them recall all of the cars affected by this . No patch jobs like adding temperature cooler to supposedly cool transmission fluid down which according to some people it doesn't work and if it does work at all it eventually fails again ! I purchased this brand new in Feb 2011 had other problems with it also brakes screeching and air conditioner went out . Those repairs came out of my pocket . Also they would not fix my brakes or acknowledge there was even a problem !all of this with only around 65,oo miles on it. I'm hoping that some one will be responsible and take action against Nissan. Thanks for taking my complaint . I don't remember the exact date it started happening but somewhere around June 2019.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

When making turns car loses power and at times stops completely. Electrical issues include navigation system and interior/ dashboard lights not coming on or popping on randomly. Moon roof will not open/close unless I keep pushing the button 10 or more times.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

With no prior warning as I was coming up my driveway and turned to go into the garage, suddenly, without warning, my car would not move forward when the accelerator was pushed.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Loss of acceleration with no warning lights there is a service bulletin of this issue ntb16-090. This car with no warning dropped from 60 mph on a highway to a drift, enough to me to get off of the road but only because I was going down a slight grade. Lucky for me there was not traffic or I would have been rear ended because it was a drastic change in speed in seconds. With my foot on the gas it just became a winding sound. Off the side of the road, car would not go in drive or reverse. I turned it off for awhile and called Nissan dealer and was able to start the car but only to move it further off the road before same issue started again. Vehicle had 1 owner prior to me and had documented regular maintenance/service through the dealership at which it was purchased.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

On June 15, 2018, I was driving on the freeway and my Nissan Rogue 2011 with a continuously variable transmission (cvt) started to lose power for no apparent reason, and it decelerated from 70 to 40 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph zone. The engine was making a whining noise while revving at high rpm's. I tried to accelerate back up to the speed limit and it wouldn't accelerate more than 40 mph and the engine continued to rev at high rpm's. I had to pull over to the freeway shoulder and put my hazard lights on while driving 40 mph. I exited the off ramp and stopped at the stop sign. When I tried to accelerate, the car was very sluggish and I had to pull over to the side of the road again because it wasn't accelerating and was driving at about 2 mph. The only way I could drive was to down shift to low and drive at low speed on surface streets. Cars were honking their horns behind me because my car would take 5 - 10 seconds to move forward from a stop sign. I had to stay in low gear because it wouldn't accelerate in regular drive gear. I stopped at an automotive repair shop and was informed that the local aamco transmission shop refused to work on Nissan Rogue transmissions. The automotive repair shop said that it would cost $4,500 for a new transmission. I shouldn't be having transmission problems on a 2011 vehicle. I heard that Nissan extended the warranty for Nissan Rogue transmissions built before 2011. My Nissan Rogue was built in 2011 so the warranty extension doesn't apply to my vehicle.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

Sept 2017 I paid sandy sansing Nissan 853. 00 to replace my defective cvt jatco transmission that failed. Now January 28, 2018 with less than 6000 miles on new transmission I was driving interstate 70 mph posted speed in heavy rain when the car began to go up in rpms revving before it quickly began to lose speed. Same thing as before. The roads were slick due to 24 hours of rainfall placing myself in a deadly situation. I'm not willing to risk my life or the life of my children and husband for a known defect Nissan has been aware of, and sued for numerous models already and yet still installing defective cvt transmissions with only a 12,000 mile or 12 month warranty on their replacement models which states they know they are trash and still deceive their customers. Nissan owners should be aware of the death traps they are driving and Nissan should be held liable for their defective products they continue to sell to consumers without disclosing the potential loss of life that could occur.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

While driving long distances at high speeds (75-80mph) the car suddenly stopped accelerating even with gas pedal floored. The car automatically decelerated to 50 mph and maxed out at 60 mph. We pulled the car over and checked all fluids, which proved normal. We turned the car off to let it cool for a few minutes. Once the car was turned back on it drove normally for about an hour and then the problem occurred again. This pattern continued for the entire 7 hour road trip. Once we took the car into a Nissan shop, we were told that nothing was found during diagnostic testing. We were also told this was a reoccurring problem with Nissan Rogues due to overheating of transmission/transmission fluid. It was explained to us that Nissan has not made a recall on this, but has only provided warranties for transmission issues on 2008-2010 models. Unfortunately mine is a 2011. This put my family in very dangerous situations as we were on interstates with cars and semi trucks traveling at very high velocities. Semi trucks were honking and flashing lights at us out of anger as it put them in danger as well. This could have easily caused a road rage incident.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

I began to drive this 2011 Nissan Rogue and noticed when stopped at a red light, when it turned green I stepped on the gas accelerator and the vehicle did not respond. This has happened over and over again. While on the highway driving a speed of 70 miles my car began to loose power, and speed. It went as low as 40 miles and I almost had an accident as a result. I was unable to maintain highway speed. No warning lights or indicators ever came on. Neither with the first issue, or the second issue. I didn't know what was happening. I was driving with my 6 yr old who has special needs the first time. I bought a new battery thinking that would help. Then it happened again, while driving with my two boys and two grandson's in the car. I again lost power and could not accelerate properly on the highway. Cars were flying by me, and I felt helpless as this vehicle wouldn't maintain a proper hi-way speed. Very debilitating. Scary when you have no control over your vehicle speed, and can't accelerate. Nissan states there's a problem with the cvt. They have agreed to replace my transmission as it has also failed. But refuse to pay for the work?? please help, as I am sure I am not the only person going through this right now. So if they replace the transmission who's to say it wont happen again???.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2017

A couple of times while driving the car stop suddenly without any warning and the engine slowly died. This is quite worrying because I am not sure how I would cope on a busy interstate road.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

The car stalls, won't accelerate, and ramps rpm when slowing down. The transmission was replaced by Nissan with an extended warranty at 52k miles, and now needs replacing again. The dealer states the transmission has overheated 91 times on this vehicle and also needs a transcooler added. I notice 141 complaints on this site for the same problem, but no investigation. The '08, '09, '10 models have all had their warranties extended. This is a serious safety hazard on a highway when vehicle will not accelerate. Someone is going to be hit from behind, as the driver has no way to keep a steady acceleration, or slow the rpm unless the car is turned off and restarted. Nissan should replace all transmissions in the Rogue.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

My 2011 Nissan Rogue has experienced acceleration problems after driving it on the highway for about 70 miles. If I have to brake on the highway, then it takes my car a long time to accelerate back up(rpm's are high) and sometimes cannot go above 50 mph as cars are whizzing by me. Once this issue starts, it continues, even if I am at a lower speed or from a stopping position. It is very dangerous! I have seen other complaints on the internet about the same problem. I contacted my local dealership and said that Nissan is adding a cooler kit to the transmission because they think the problem is from the transmission overheating. They want anywhere from $800-1,200 to install the cooling kit. Why should the consumer have to pay for this if Nissan is having to add a kit to cool down the transmission? obviously, it's a default in the transmission and has happened repeatedly on lots of vehicles. According to a website, Nissan has an extended cvt warranty for 2003-2010 Nissan Rogues, but nothing after that even though newer cars (2014) are experiencing the same problem. Do people have to die first before they do a recall? it is extremely dangerous and hard to recreate at the service department because you have to get the transmission warm and that usually takes a longer distance to drive. Also, there are no warning lights that come on to indicate a problem so this malfunction just catches you by surprise! I hope NHTSA gets involved and tells Nissan to fix this problem on their dime, not ours. I will never buy a Nissan again and will be sure to warn my friends of this deadly situation.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2017

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Rogue. While traveling highway speeds, the accelerator pedal did not respond once depressed. The failure occurred without warning. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

I was traveling to sacramento from los angeles in oct. 2016. After driving for about 4 hours my car started to lose speed. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and I could not accelerate any faster. I pulled off the freeway and waited for a little while and then got back on the road and then warning light came on and never went off. On the way home I was headed up the grapevine (I-5 south) and I lost speed again and pulled over to the truck lane going uphill and my speed dropped as low as 20 mph and that was with me pushing the pedal all the way to the floor. I had several semi-trucks behind me and could not change lanes without possibly causing an accident. I was very scared and once I made it up the hill I was able to gain a little speed going downhill and continued home. Ii took my car to a mechanic and he told me that it was an issue w/my transmission. I called Nissan and since I was barely over my warranty I was told that I would have to pay for my transmission myself and I was very upset as my car had just over 60,000. I started researching my issue and discovered this was a common, known problem with Nissan and Rogue's in particular. This is very dangerous and I hope they do something before someone loses their life. Having your speed drop so dramatically on a busy interstate w/several semi-trucks is very frightening. Since then I have not driven my car on trips over 2 hours away because I don't feel safe. I had this same type of problem months before on a trip to las vegas but just let it go because no warning light came on and I thought it was a fluke. I was completely shocked to see that Nissan knows of this problem w/the transmission and has done nothing to fix it. I now have a rattling noise coming from my car and I'm afraid to see what that is going to cost me. I only drive to/from work and work less than 5 miles from my home. Ugh!!.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2016

Since purchasing my 201 Rogue in 2012, with 4,000 miles on it, whenever driving for more than 35-40 minutes, have total loss of acceleration. Happens on highway, durning driving around town and from a complete stop. Occurs no matter the time of year or the weather conditions. Researched and found on line this happens to multitudes of owners of Nissan 4cyl vehicles with cvt. No fix has been noted, just waiting for a serious accident or death, before Nissan or government does anything. Can not afford to just go buy another vehicle. Will not ever buy another Nissan 4cyl with the cvt. Disappointed, concerned and hoping I am not the fatality,.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2016

While driving at 65 mph on the new jersey turnpike, the car suddenly dropped in acceleration to 40mph. Pressing on the gas caused the rpm to rev, however no change in speed occurred. Upon inquiring about this issue, I came to find out that this is a common problem with Nissan's cvt components that the company is aware of, however no recall has been issued. Extreme weather conditions, such as heat waves, using the car for a prolonged period of time, and traveling uphill have been documented to trigger the loss of acceleration. This common flaw found with Nissan cars is highly dangerous and will inevitably result in the loss of life.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

When driving on the highway with cruise on all of the sudden the cruise cuts off and the car loses acceleration. I preszed the gass pedal and rpms went up but vehicle still did not accelerate. I was unable to get the vehicle to go over 40 mph. I was traveling with my four children and very lucky that there was t anyone behind me so inwas able to pull over to the shoulder.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2016

At 67,000 both cv boots are blown, had to replace, now the cvt issue with the transmission, no acceleration, transmission gears reverse and drive, I want a refund. I purchased this used car 1 year and 3 months ago. Unsafe I have my children in the car. Vehicle can be at 60 mph, and then drop to nothing with no warning. I want a full refund of the purchase price I paid for it I am terrified to keep driving it.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

Whenever I am driving on the highway, and my vehicle is on cruise; the cruise mechanism drops off and the speed starts to decline. Yesterday, the vehicle went all the way down to zero and the vehicle just coasted along the side of the highway. Once the battery was disconnected and reconnected; the vehicle will run again, but the reset only lasts for about a day or so. This has been happening to my vehicle when travel involves long distances since 2013 now. Yesterday, was the first day the speed went all the way down and the vehicle began coasting along the highway.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Bought this car with 51,000 miles, after two hours driving starting loosing power after any stop, didn't move any direction with all the pedal gas all the way down. Took the car to Nissan services many times, then changed sensors, transmission and others stuffs, my warranty expired from Nissan and from the one I bought on side. And I am still have the problem, now all charges on me. The problem happened any where after 1 o 2 hours driving. I had been in dangerous situation many times. I am planned to stop furthers payments.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

The transmission on this car overheats after driving (slightly) uphill for over 5 miles or anytime it's driven over an hour. This causes the car to lose acceleration. Most recently, it overheated so badly that I could push the accelerator all the way to the floor and it didn't move at all. I've since learned that this is a widespread problem that Nissan is aware of, but is not offering to fix the problem or state a recall. They will install a transmission cooling kit for $850 at the consumer's expense. The expense aside, consumers need to be made aware of this extremely dangerous defect as loss of acceleration at high speeds can cause deadly accidents. Nissan needs to be accountable for this.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

While driving on a long road trip, two hours into the ride my 2011 Nissan Rogue decelerated and would not go above 60 mph. I was going about 75 mph on the highway and it decelerated, while I was flooring the gas to 60mph. The gas peddle was completely floored and the car would not accelerate and sounded like it was fighting to stay at 60 mph. The car started vibrating was loud sounding like it had no power. Then when I pulled off the highway and came to a stop the car was very delayed to accelerate at all, as if it had no power. I refueled at a little over a half tank and for the first time the gas gauge did not register the correct miles or move the dial. Once I began driving again, after 20 minutes the car again slowed and would not go above 60mph. Once restarting the engine the gas gauge did read accurately. This occurred once before when the Rogue had about 70k miles on it and this last incident the car has 96k miles. On the first occasion the rouge would not go above 50mph. I bought the Rogue brand and have kept up with the regular maintenance. This never happened while living in NY and seemed to start when driving over an hour or so on the highway, in the florida heat. I did not take it to get checked out after reading various forums that it is a known issue Nissan will not fix. . Read more...

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

Was driving at high speed on the interstate with cruise engaged. Cruise would abruptly disengage causing the speed to fall rapidly, and accelerator would cease to work with gas pedal pushed to the floor. Would also decrease speed when climbing hills. Near collision took place and this is my family car in which I always have two young children with me. This happened on more then one occasion and would result in my having to pull off to the side of the road to turn the car off and reset the vehicle. This problem is going to get someone hurt or killed. Problem persisted and left me stranded in an intersection as well. Dealer says it's the trans cooler failing to keep the transmission from overheating and needs to be replaced. Repair will cost between $1100 and $1300. Called consumer affairs at Nissan and they have decided it's normal wear and tear on the vehicle that has caused this. This vehicle was purchased brand new four years ago and only has 72,000 miles. That response is unacceptable. Had I know the tranny would fail within that time I never would have purchased this vehicle. My recommendation, do not buy a Nissan. They do not stand behind their product. All models of Rogue before this had their cvt warranties doubled to 120,000 miles because of this problem so why not the 2011? it's the same exact problem! extremely unhappy and will be fighting this. I will be contacting the bbb and my lawyer. If you're having this problem then file a complaint. These vehicles should be recalled. I will never buy another Nissan again, and will boycott them till the end of time. Poor vehicle, poor service, poor response to consumer's. Steer clear if you're Smart!.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

I was driving from denver to raton, nm. On I-25 outside pueblo, I was going about 80 miles an hour up a hill. The car would not accelerate and the speed quickly dropped to 45 mph. I had the gas pedal to the floor, and the car would not accelerate. I had to put my emergency lights on, so other drivers would know I was having car trouble. This happened on four or more inclines including raton pass where I couldn't get the car over 25 mph until I was going downhill. On the return drive, it didn't happen. On my drive to breckenridge a few days ago, it happened again. Not being able to accelerate and quickly losing speed on the freeway is an accident waiting to happen. I will get a different car as soon as possible. Once I started researching online, I saw several other Rogue owners' comments about this known but ignored issue.
