This car is notorious for cvt transmission problems. Nissan has already extended warranties for Rogues prior to 2010, but of course mine is a newer 2012 model. On multiple occasions when attempting to accelerate, the car has basically shut off. Once, after getting off the ramp from 288 to hull street, I attempted to accelerate up a slight hill and the car just would not go to the point where I had my foot floored and nothing. I let off, was able to pull to the side of the road where it shook then shut off. I had the car towed to a local repair shop where they weren't able to find anything wrong. Just today, I was driving 65 down the highway and attempted to accelerate just to get infront of another car to prepare for the upcoming exit and mid pushing down on the gas pedal. . . It just stops going. I was luckily able to get into the right lane again and pull over to the car shakes then shuts off. I let it sit for about 15 minutes, and was able to start it back up and go without seemingly without a problem again. This is my family vehicle. I am afraid this is going to happen to me one day in major traffic and cause an incident possibly hurting me, my family or others. I have read many forums with hundreds of people having this same issue. Something really needs to be done about it from Nissan. These cars are not safe to drive, but I am basically stuck in a car loan I can't get out of. I have no choice.
While driving, the vehicle will start shuddering and rpm's will increase by 2000-3000 rpms even if there is no assistance with acceleration (foot is off gas pedal). When this happens, the car will then no longer accelerate, and will start slowing down, regardless if you at pressing the gas or not. You basically lose all control over the operating speed of the vehicle. This has happened over 10 times within the past 3 months, all while driving on the highway at posted speeds, approx. 65 mph for anywhere between 5 min to an hour + of constant rate of speed.
I was driving my car on a highway with speed limits of 70 miles per hour as I was going up an incline my car wouldn't accelerate past the speed I was going. Once I made it over the incline I was able to accelerate again. We were then entering the exit ramp and my car just quit. My husband told me to put the car in park and start the engine- it then started up and we were able to exit the ramp, but the car had little acceleration so we turned off the air conditioning and that seemed to help. On our way back home my husband drove the car on the highway and after driving a while the car lost acceleration again. We shut off the air conditioner and then it was ok. We took the car a Nissan dealership and was told that they needed to add an aulxillary transmission cooler to the transmission so it would not overheat. Also they had to replace ransmission valve body. I had them do the repair at a cost to me if of $1,013. 00. Nissan would only pay $750. 00 to the cost. I told the rep at Nissan that we had no warning of the transmission going , no warning lights came on it just stopped. I told the this was a huge safety issue - this could of caused a major accident. I also felt that Nissan should of paid the whole cost since they had to add a device to my transmission that wasn't on there when I purchased the vehicle. At the time this happened I had 82,000 miles on my car- they said they extended the warranty to 75,000 miles for the cvt transmission . I had to take my car in again today ,Aug 2, 2016 because of the vehicle shaking when I put my air conditioning on and a rattling noise when I am in reverse and starting to go while the air conditioner is running. I am told this is a separate issue and it is going to cost me $1,200. 00 for a compressor that is failing. Another cost to me the consumer for Nissan's lack of accountability for their mechanical failures.
