Nissan Rogue owners have reported 319 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Rogue based on all problems reported for the Rogue.
I took my Rogue into a mechanic shop for a juddering/grinding noise when turning at low speeds. Upon further investigation, the mechanic found a recall (ntb20-069) for the awd. This recall is the exact issue I am currently having with my car and they are stating there is no open recall on my VIN. I am writing in to note that the issue applies to more cars than just the ones on the bulletin. They also repaired a recall for the automatic braking system 6 years ago. The system was replaced but only lasted 5 years because that is when they assumed the 100,000 mile warranty would be over and owners would need to pay to replace it.

While making a left turn at approximately 10 mph in light snow conditions, braking became severely impaired with pedal pressure present but vehicle failing to decelerate, and steering became significantly resistant and insufficient to redirect the vehicle away from the obstacle. Vehicle continued toward a tree despite brake pedal input and steering input away from the tree. Slippery road warning light activated before and during the incident. Multiple additional warning lights activated during and after impact. Airbags did not deploy despite collision. Post-incident, steering required significant opposite steering input to drive straight for approximately 1. 7 miles to reach a safe parking location, consistent with front-end damage affecting steering alignment. Prior to this incident, I experienced multiple separate occasions where braking felt abnormal and insufficient in conditions requiring higher traction including rain and snow. I verbally reported this concern once to an authorized Nissan dealer in December 2025 and was told this was normal aeb system behavior. No documentation was created for this verbal complaint. Vehicle had a prior manufacturer recall performed at an authorized Nissan dealer on June 1, 2024 reconfiguring the ipdm/usm — the module controlling electronic steering column lock and can bus safety system communications. At that same visit, the Nissan technician documented abnormally dirty brake fluid at only 14,410 miles on this 2023 vehicle. A second manufacturer recall reprogramming the ecm was performed at an authorized Nissan dealer on December 4, 2025, approximately two months before this incident. The vehicle is available for inspection. No independent or dealer post-incident inspection has occurred. An insurance claim has been opened. Incident occurred within the 3-year/36,000-mile manufacturer warranty period at under 31,000 miles.

Aeb system engaged momentarily with no external stimulus to cause it to do so. This has happened twice in about the last three weeks or so. The momentary (probably less than a second) response of the system was noticeable but did not cause an accident or other issue. The system dash light also illuminated and then turned off.
While driving at 45 mph with my wife in the front passenger seat, on a two lane road (one way each direction) in wake forest nc, no cars were in the front or rear of my vehicle , sunny clear weather, the following happened: driving normally, then all of a sudden, the car proceeds to, what felt like emergency braking and then a split second, the dashboard signals come on , different symbols, then a red image appears on the dashboard (for a split second) then it brakes hard a second time (within a split second) then everything clears and the car proceeds to drive normally. The braking action felt like a severe brake pulsing, then a split second release and then another spilt second brake pulsing and then everything cleared and the car continued to drive normally. The braking was so severe, my wife and I lurched forward towards the windshield, held back by our seat belts. The braking occurred suddenly with nothing near the vehicle. The emergency braking came in the first pulse, then followed by a extremely brief release(split second) then another quick emergency braking action(split second), then multiple lights and warnings quickly appeared on the dash board ending with a split second red symbol (so brief I could not determine any of the warnings or lights). Then the car drove normally after that. If any vehicle had been behind us, a rear accident collision could have taken place. This happened on Saturday, February 14th at approximately 2:30pm on forestville road, in wake forest, nc. This was an extremely dangerous situation. As this is now a Sunday, the Nissan dealer will be contacted tomorrow and arrangements will be made to bring the vehicle in for an inspection ASAP. I feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point in time.

Driving 55 mph down road when my 2018 Nissan Rogue sl awd automatically slammed on the brakes by itself. Lights on the dashboard flashed and it made horrible breaking sound the force flung me forward but seat belt locked up holding me in place. There was absolutely nothing or no one fffcccffin front me. Luckily no one was behind me eor they would’ve hit me. Can’t figure out a way to turn off this safety collision feature because it’s a put hazard!.
How brake failure caused the Rogue to crash. “I was coming up on a stop and was trying to slowly come to a stop. But I noticed that my car wasn’t slowing down. So, I tried to brake harder by pushing on the brake pedal, but the pedal resisted my foot pressure. I pressed harder on the pedal, but the car didn’t start to beep the collision warning. I was not in control of the braking system (and) the car would not stop. The car wasn’t allowing me to brake. As everything happened so fast. I ended up rear ending someone. ”.
Randomly when driving, the pedestrian crossing message will show in the dash and the brakes will kick on. It's happened too many times. The Nissan logo has been cleaned and the radar sensor does not have any fault codes showing. But the emergency brake will kick on and it has almost caused accidents.
In the past month the car automatic braking has stopped the car while in traffic 3 times. Fortunately it happened on side roads traveling at 35 to 40 mph. I checked the emblem and windshield camera for debris that might be covering those areas and they were generally clean and did not look like it would cause the sensor to stop the car. I am calling Nissan dealership close to house to see if they will update the software as per (TSB ntb19-033g). If they perform this software update and problem persists I will file another report here as an update to my situation.

Vehicle randomly (twice in past 5 weeks) stops while driving. Fortunately it was on side roads with no vehicles close behind me. There is supposed to be a software update that is free of charge per (TSB ntb19-033g). But my local Nissan dealerships won't do that without a full service diagnostic and road test. Problem is it is so random that issue will not happen while they have the vehicle and they will give the vehicle back to me without a fix or software update and hand me a big bill for fixing nothing. Guess I have to turn that feature off each time I start it until I can get rid of said vehicle. Thanks for nothing Nissan. It's always about money and not our safety.
I was on the freeway, going 65mph. Suddenly, I felt my car partially brake. Thank god I was close to an exit and got off safely. My car partially braked again while I was going 35mph down the street. As I cautiously drove home, the fcw kept blinking, even though there was ample distance between me and other cars, and at times, no car in front of me. It's winter time and there's snow on the ground. This could cause an accident!!!.

Vehicle safety defect report I am submitting this vehicle safety defect report regarding a serious and dangerous failure in a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The vehicle experienced complete electronic shutdowns while driving on the highway. During the most severe incidents, on December 19, 2025 and again on January 14, 2026, the vehicle activated the automatic emergency braking system without external cause, shifted into park, and shut down completely, leaving the vehicle immobilized in live interstate traffic during heavy rain. The dashboard displayed multiple simultaneous warnings (engine, battery, collision sensors). A repair facility later diagnosed corrosion in the transmission control module (tcm). The module was not replaced, only cleaned, and the failure recurred. This defect presents an extreme risk of collision, serious injury, or death. A vehicle that shuts down and electronically locks while in motion is unsafe to operate. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this electronic defect affecting critical safety and control systems. Videos, dashboard images, repair records, and documented evidence are attached. While driving on an interstate highway during heavy rain, my 2021 Nissan Rogue experienced a complete electronic shutdown. Multiple warning lights appeared simultaneously, the automatic emergency braking system activated without cause, and the vehicle suddenly shifted into park and shut off, leaving me immobilized in live traffic. This occurred on December 19, 2025, and the same failure happened again on January 14, 2026. The vehicle could not be moved and required towing. A repair facility diagnosed corrosion in the transmission control module (tcm). The module was only cleaned, not replaced, and the failure recurred. This defect creates a severe risk of collision, serious injury, or death. I narrowly avoided being struck by a truck. I am no longer able to safely operate this vehicle.
The most recent incident the emergency brake locked on and the dash flashed system malfunction , maintenance needed, , emergency braking system shut down and several indicators were shut down . This continued for 90 minutes while I was on the phone with Nissan and was waiting for the tow truck when arriving at Nissan 72 miles away , they were not able to find any codes and the car was fine no issues . Luckily I have video to back my story . I have pictures and videos of other times it has done this , but no one will look into why it keeps doing this and it’s done it several time over 2 1/2 years . They changed the stop /start button and it helped but now it’s starting to flash the emergency braking system is off again which is a build up to a major episode again. My Rogue has less than 40, 000 miles on it and has been one issue like this after another with them slapping band aides on it and not finding the source of the problem. They even claim it cleared the bearing failure test but the test was preformed while it was on route to Nissan on a tow truck .
I was driving on a four lane road, no car in front in my lane, only a car in the lane to the left and a car behind, when the forward collision warning came up and immediately activated the automatic emergency braking. There were no cars or objects in the road ahead that would have triggered the forward collision warning. Fortunately the car behind did not hit me despite the abrupt and unexpected stop. For context, I have had an ongoing issue with this car detecting shadows when in reverse (mostly in my driveway) and thinking they are objects or people, which triggers the automatic emergency braking. On the day of the incident described above the weather condition was sunny.
I was using the snow mode because there was a little bit of snow and ice on the road. I had been driving it that morning and did not have a problem until I turned in to my street. I turned right and the steering and brakes and accelerator all locked, leaving me where my car slid across the road and the left drivers side tire ran over the curb. I was not able to correct anything as everything locked. Even though I am okay and was going less than 5 mph while turning. I feel like the whole car's function to lock is unsafe as it left me to hope the curb would stop it. The car had to get towed and is now in the shop with $4,000 of damage to that tire and tire rods which I feel like could not have been prevented considering everything was locked and did not allow me to correct properly.
I was driving 70 mi. / an hour and then all of a sudden the car jerked very hard. The car behind me had to hurry up and move from behind me because he saw my car had come coming to a complete stop at 25 to 35 miles an hour. A show that I had a crash and then I tried to accelerate to go pick up the speed and I couldn’t go no more than 45 miles was very scary don’t want driver car like that haven’t had the car a month and I’m having issues with something I’m paying for that shouldn’t be happening.

While driving at approximately 15–20 mph, my vehicle suddenly started beeping and displayed a quick warning message on the dashboard before the brakes locked up on their own. The incident lasted only a few seconds, but it was extremely alarming. This same issue has now happened twice, both times in the exact same location on the same road, driving at about the same speed. The first incident was roughly around [xxx], the second incident was [xxx]. On both occasions, I had my [xxx] twin daughters in the car with me, and it frightened all of us. Thankfully, there were no vehicles directly behind me either time, otherwise it could have resulted in a rear-end collision. I believe there were cars ahead of me, but they were far enough away that I don’t think they triggered the sensors. Both times it was sunny, dry weather, and the road conditions were normal—no rain, no slick surfaces, and no obstacles in front of me. I am not sure if sunlight could have affected a sensor, but it appears to be related to the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system or another electronic braking malfunction. The problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealer, but I plan to have it checked as soon as possible. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I started my vehicle, everything seemed fine, but once I reached my destination, the vehicles auto start/off activated which was normal. I was in a school line to pick up my child, once picked up my child and the auto start reactivated, that's when the problems be can. Once I exceeded 40 mph the car began to jerk violently, and as I tried to move over to the side of the road I couldn't fast enough the speed of the vehicle was locked at 5mph with the check engine light coming on and the "auto-start/off" indicator flashing, the violent jerking seemed to al so effect the vehicles air conditioning.
The screen turns off suddenly while the vehicle is in use. Additionally, the automatic emergency braking (aeb) system is either deactivated or displays as “off” when the car is started. The sudden deactivation of the aeb system compromises the vehicle’s ability to automatically brake in critical situations, increasing the risk of a collision. The screen turning off could also limit access to important vehicle information or controls, further impacting safety. No warning lamps appeared prior to the failure. The issue with the screen and aeb deactivation happens when the vehicle is started, but there were no prior warnings before this started occurring. After so many recalls, I no longer feel safe with this vehicle.
Brakes automatically stop car.
Automatic braking and crash detection alarm failed causing collision with another vehicle, totaling the car. That was the third time it happened. The first two times I was able to get the vehicle under control before collision. Problem was never addressed at a dealership due to scheduling issues. Problem first appeared in may 2025, then in July 2025. Collision totaling the vehicle occurred on August 6, 2025.
The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the automatic emergency braking system engaged temporarily while there was no other vehicles around, and the vehicle made a beeping sound. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and continued driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle need to be taken in for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,113.

Engine seems very weak. Not enough power to safely pass on a highway. Absolutely gutless and sometimes upon acceleration and/or braking it jerks.
I have owned this vehicle since it was new and the collision sensor light would occasionally blink when the weather was cold, damp or foggy. My Nissan tech told me not to worry about it as long as the car was not braking without necessity. About a month ago, the collision sensor light was blinking and shortly thereafter, the front radar (collision avoidance) sensor malfunctioned, warning lights and sound occurred and the aeb system deployed and car was stopped abruptly. There was no traffic and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I placed the car in park and then in drive and car was back to normal operation. Several days later the lane departure warning occurred for no reason but the car did not shut down. I took the car to dick smith Nissan, st. Andrews road, columbia, SC for service. They replaced the collision sensor for a cost of $2300. 00. I called Nissan customer service, received a complaint number ([xxx]) but was told there was nothing Nissan could or would do. This is a problem occurring in many Nissan models over several years. Some of these malfunctioning sensors have been replaced under warranty. Others are part of class action suits in several states. I believe some models have been the subject of recalls. Nissan will not admit that there is a flaw in these sensors and it is a safety issue if the vehicle stalls in heavy traffic or on the interstate. I was lucky that I when my car stalled, I was in town with no traffic and was able to pull off the road. I’m hoping replacing the sensor has solved my problem but it was costly. Ntsb should be aware of this safety issue and document incidents regarding these collision sensors. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When parking, my car keeps automatically applying brakes. I have turned off this setting yet. It continues to happen. Safety is at risk when my car stops in the middle of the street instead of continuing to back up. Cars following behind me are unaware that my car will randomly break. I have not reached out to a dealer with these concerns and have yet to get an inspection.
1)backup camera freezes. I need to pause the car and wait a minute then it will restart. This happens a couple of times a week. 2)also, there have been several times when going down a hill, my forward collision warning light and sound goes off and it feels like a light emergency brake is applied. (though the dealer told me that I did not have the automatic emergency braking). This occurs for about 2-3 seconds and then stops on it's own. I have never seen anything in the road that would set this off. This has happened about 4 times within the last 6 months or less.
Automatic breaking system shuts off and on. As well as, the reverse camera screen goes blank when putting vehicle into reverse.
Had this car for 2 years no issues. Now all sudden when it rains alittle. An I drive my car an go to back up it slams it breaks on me. I took to Nissan dealership in johnstown told them what was going on and she told me that it had dirty in the sensor. Ok could have been. Well now everytime it rains I have issues an when I back up it slams it brakes. I have got stuck in the middle of the road several times. I’m either gonna get hit or hit someone an Nissan is pretty telling me there is nothing wrong with my car.
It has happened where I am driving on the highway with big vehicle's are next to me and it will brake and take me from 65 miles per hour down to 30 mph quickly . I always hope that no one is in back of me I fear that I will get in a accident for no reason . Please put a recall on this system !.
This system will activate on its own with no warning.
There is a dash light coming on and warning saying “front radar obstruction” causing car to randomly brake, and cruise control not to work. Thought it was originally from a deer I hit March 30, 2025. Replaced sensors, cameras, emblem, checked wiring, recalibrated, multiple diagnostic test all done by more than one person. No one can figure it out even after replacing and testing it’s still happening. Insurance deemed it a coincidence that this started happening after I hit the deer and said problem is not from hitting the deer.
Issues with false activations of emergency braking, Nissan acknowledges issues in technical service bulletins but doesn't feel is enough to create a recall or special coverage even tho is a major safety issue, imagine it happening on the highway, which read it has and there is a semi behind you, could result in death very easily. Brakes will randomly lock up the car to a dead stop out of nowhere and flash bunch of warning lights. Have a friend with a Nissan car that did same thing and caused a major accident with injuries. I am a certified master technician and I find this very concerning and needs to be addressed. Will be having an independent mobile programmer update the software which isnt listed for 2019s in the technical service bulletin only for 17-18. And hope that it never happens again, but that will all be out of pocket.
On Friday, 24 Jan 25, at highway speeds between 60 and 70 mph the automatic emergency braking (aeb) system unexpectedly engaged three times. On Sunday, 26 Jan 25, while in a neighborhood street the aeb engaged unexpectedly at 25 mph. That same day at highway speeds between 60 and 70 mph the aeb system unexpectedly engaged four times. Additionally, on that day the aeb warning light flashed and a chime was heard, but the system did not brake two times. This car was at a Nissan dealer on 2 Dec 2019 for recall 1-p9327 - Rogue aeb ntb19-064 and recall 2 - r1911 - nis av cont unit multi TSB.
I have a 2019 Nissan Rogue. I was driving on the freeway and my emergency breaks went off for no reason. The car in front of me was more than 50 feet away. Thankfully we were in moderate traffic and the car behind me was able to swerve to avoid rear ending me. I searched online and other Rogue owners have had the same problem. Nissan needs to recall the aeb system in these cars. I am glad I have a dash cam and was able to record the incident. I don’t feel safe driving my car knowing this is a common problem.
Car stops abruptly when no objects or cars are in the road - had to push through on the gas to not be hit/cause and accident. • seems to be (ntb19-033f). But no longer/ never active for 2019 Rogue? • can kill someone and cause severe damage to humans and vehicles/property. • has happened twice (June 2024, January 2025) thankfully with no crashes, but very possible. • local dealership says it's not an active recall and > $2000 for repair on Jan 9, 2025 2019 Nissan Rogue sport sl.
