Nissan Rogue owners have reported 369 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Rogue based on all problems reported for the Rogue.
There is an odd engine 'rattling', 'guzzling', 'slurping', type noise coming from the engine and the engine has begun to idle very rough even after fresh oil change. This is directly the issue cited from Nissan as recall with no current solution - which is unacceptable. We are not interested in waiting until the car malfunctions worse and in a dangerous way in order to get this recall addressed.

Our 2021 Nissan Rogue stalls in traffic, park brake alert pops up when not on, radio doesn’t work sometimes, gas pump doesn’t click off when full so have to watch or it spills on car and ground, inside pillars between fr-windshield and front driver and passenger windows leak when I run it through the car wash, there are constant glitches with it that we’ve taken in and they say it doesn’t replicate for them so they can’t do anything even though they have complaints on all with the NHTSA. The vehicle just stalls out while driving?.

Engine keeps making noise check engine light keeps on due to a part on car take and speed is slow car will only got up to 80 top speed.
Related to pe23-023. 2022 Nissan Rogue with 77,000 miles first lost heating ability and then would stall and not start. Problem was diagnosed by an ase certified shop/tech. Diagnostic inspection revealed 2 quarts of coolant missing and contamination in the cylinders. To start the recommendation was to replace the egr cooler and turbo, after reviewing similar complaints, I have chosen not to do the repairs as it doesn't sounds like it will fix the root cause and I am not inclined to replace the motor, turbo, egr etc only for this to occur again. I plan to trade out of this vehicle at a significant financial loss and replace it to ensure the safety of my family. I would like to be a part of the investigation, if in the future Nissan is held accountable for this engineering failure I may be able to recoup some of my financial hardship.

Our vehicle stalled once while idle at an atm. Upon restart we brought it to our local mechanic for investigation, they diagnosed the issue as a turbo sensor problem costing about $700. They recommended bringing it to Nissan for further review rather than charge us for the repair. We picked up the vehicle the next day and brought it to our local Nissan dealership where they confirmed it was in face the turbo causing the issue. After discovering this and quoting us a repair of $7,200 they did a pressure test overnight only to discover there was coolant leaking into the engine and that a new block will now need to be installed for the vehicle to work. The new cost is $11,500 to repair. The vehicle is a 2022 Nissan Rogue that we are the only owners with regular maintenance. When we dropped off the vehicle at both locations there was no check engine light on and there were no signs of engine failure. The sales manager went to check the vehicle and confirmed the engine no longer works.
There is an intermittent smell of gas/exhaust fumes in the cabin since purchasing the car. Nissan says there is no issue and offers no fix but I have never owned a car that had this type of smell in the cabin unless there was something wrong. The smell can be so bad as to cause nausea and headaches.
Very strong fuel smell comes from the engine compartment after driving. When I am in stop start driving it enters through the vent and the smell is strong in the cabin. Had it to the dealer two times. They attempted a fix which did not work the first time. I brought it in again today and they stated this is a known problem and that it is under engineering review and there is no fix for it currently.
The Nissan Rogue when warm weather hits the cvt transmission seems to get hot and then you lose propulsion. You can’t even put it in reverse and you cannot accelerate at all. You have to get out. Push the car wait 10 minutes and then hope to try it again. What works as we have to do a reset on a cvt system? turn the ignition on by not turning the car on step on the break put it in reverse. Hit the accelerator three times slowly then wait five seconds put it in park. Turn it off to accept the changes and then two more times. Follow the same process for your car to turn on so you can drive off they are recommending that we should purchase a cooling system for a transmission fluid. This doesn’t make sense. Everybody’s complaining about this.

I had my vehicle repaired in March 2025 due to significant gas fumes in the cabin while driving. I had it repaired three months after purchasing it. I am now have concerns about the gas fumes in the cabin while the air conditioning is on to the extent that it caused me to physically get sick. Each and every time my windows are completely closed and I have the air conditioning on. It can smell significant amount of gas fumes in the vehicle. If I’m at a drive up window, I open my window. It increases the smell while idling.
Have had this car for over a year and have been dealing with it constantly going into limp mode randomly throughout the day, usually when driving in stop and go traffic. Prior to going into limp mode (won't shift out of first gear), it lags for about 5 seconds while pressing the acceleration pedal and does not move. It's a huge safety issue when having to turn with oncoming traffic. I've taken the car to the dealer multiple times and Nissan refuses to acknowledge that there is any issue. When scanning with an obd2 scanner, there are no codes associated with transmission issues. Transmission fluid has been flushed and replaced more then once since owning the car. On bad days, my car has gone into limp mode up to 6 times in one day. I've read this is a common problem with this year and model of car yet there is no recall for the cvt or cooling system for the transmission fluid. Mechanics can't seem to figure out a solution and I'm stuck with a car that has almost caused me to be in multiple accidents due to the hesitation/lag randomly when accelerating. I fear my transmission is going to go out every day I drive this car and it is my only car sadly.

2023 Nissan Rogue constantly smells of gas fumes on the interior. I have had my vehicle in numerous times over the last few months because the fumes are making me lightheaded to the point that I need to pull over and I constantly have headaches. I have a complaint filed with Nissan and their "fix" is to compensate me for my inconvenience with no genuine concern over the fact that this is causing health issues. They released a new supposed fix which is a replacement of another hose. I'm concerned about my health but also the safety of myself and others while I'm driving due to feeling so lightheaded.
Pungent gasoline odor permeating throughout the vehicle.
Gas smell from outside car. Can smell under hood when opened also.
Car stall and shut off while driving on the highway. This is the second time this has happened in a year. They tried to blame it on the battery the fuel was reading wrong then. Fuel reading issue again in August supposed to have done a software update again to fix it. Now this time my child was driving and the car shuts down while driving on the highway with gas reading 42 miles left. The car gets to the dealership and they say it’s no gas and the fuel pump system failed. This car is a severe safety hazard.
Upon starting the vehicle, there is a distinct gas smell that fills the cabin. It goes away after awhile driving, but happens again when the car has been turned off and started again. This comes through the air vents in the cabin. The outside of the car, from under the hood, also smells of gas when parked. The car cannot be parked inside a garage, or the entire garage smells of gas.

I have only owned this vehicle 7 days and am returning it. After receiving this car and driving to 35 miles I noticed an intense smell of gasoline in the cabin of the vehicle. I at first assumed it could be exhaust from other cars. I stopped and waited a moment began to drive again and the smell permeated the cabin. The smell made me nauseous. I got home and called my local Nissan dealership and read online to check the dip stick for a smell of gasoline. Pulled the oil dip stick and the oil was diluted the viscosity was extremely runny and smelled strongly of gas. After reading of similar issues with this product I explained to the dealership I no longer wanted this vehicle and have sent it back because of this issue. In the week I attempted to drive the car the fumes did not stop were not subtle and were persistent. The experience was not pleasant and left no sense of dependability with this product. Nissans dealership stated it was an issue they were aware of and that I could bring it in for them to complete diagnostics and testing. I explained that if they were aware that any dealer prior to selling these cars should have inspected these vehicles for this issue if it is known and ensured the vehicle was safe. I feel I was sold a faulty unsafe product with known issues regardless of my safety. Nissan was once a reputable brand if the deal ship was aware of this and Nissan is aware of this they should automatically recall and adjust the issue quickly to ensure they take care of the consumer. I will not consider purchasing another product from this brand.
While driving on the expressway, the car started to slow down, a awd error came on dashboard, driver proceeded to emergency lane, car came to complete stop and would not restart. Had car towed to Nissan auto service department. P26a3-00 engine coolant bypass valve was replaced. This system malfunction could have caused loss of life .
There is a problem with a tapping noise from the engine. It normally happens when lightly accelerating. “Nissan Rogue 2023, with 3 cylinder, 1. 5l doch 12-valve super charged, 201 hp, 225 lb-ft torque, xtronic cvt”. It started at about 11,000 miles but has continued and is now about 23,000 miles. I had the car in for a part replacement under warranty November 18, 2024 and asked for a test drive with a technician to observe for noise with me. We both heard the noise and the technician said it could be a couple of things. 1. Something could be loose in the engine linkage. 2. Could have something to do with the turbocharger linkage or activator. 3. Could be just because it is a 3 cylinder engine it is just a little more noisy (don’t by that). 4. I asked if it was possibly that the timing was slightly off. Technician said the only way to check, would be to have to drop the engine since you could not access the ports as it sits in the engine compartment. 5. I use regular 87% octane gas as called for in the manual and told the technician that another dealer mechanic suggested trying premium grade octane and see if that helps. I tried higher octane gas and still making the same sound when lightly accelerating from a stop or turning a 90 degree corner. 6. The next oil change, I will check to see if any metal shaving are in the oil. I will need to take it back in to the Nissan dealer soon to have a discussion again.
The fuel temperature sensor is faulty. The car is no longer under warranty but is only 31k miles, the fuel temperature sensor can be purchased by itself so the entire fuel pump has to be replaced and they’re very expensive. I know this is a common problem with this temperature sensor. Also the electronic emergency button stopped working about 2 years ago.

Car would not accelerate and stopped in mid traffic this has continued to happen and nissian takes no responsibility. After the car goes to the shop the same things happen to it again they never fix the issue.
After shutting down the engine and letting the vehicle rest for a while, re-ignition causes a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin. This can lead to light-headedness, headaches, and nausea.
After parking in my Rogue in the garage there is a very strong odor of gasoline which doesn't dissapate, even the next day. I have taken to 2 different Nissan dealers and it still persists. I'm afraid the gas odors will ignite my garage.
My 2022 Nissan rouge s model began experiencing a strong gas smell inside the vehicle. Upon further inspection of the oil dipstick it smells heavily of gas. It has been to the dealership twice with absolutely no help or answers. It has also caused my engine oil levels to rise. I am concerned not only from a monetary stand point but more importantly from a safety standpoint I. E. Engine stalls, fires etc.
My car is a 2013 Rogue s with 118,000 miles. Two weeks ago I was on the I-95 at around 70 miles an hour and the car suddenly goes to 45 miles, despite my insistence to maintain my speed, I had to give up and pull over to the right . . . I was able to go home at low speed and this experience traumatized me. After that I consulted a mechanic who told me without joking that these cars have the worst transmission and I should contact Nissan. I contacted Nissan customer service to explain the problem, they told me no and gave me a case number (52135330). After checking, it turns out that following repeated complaints Nissan would have increased the warranty up to 120,000 miles, but not for me!.
After car is in park and idle for 20+ minutes the car begins to smell like fumes. Caused bad migraines and nausea - having to exit the car and leave the doors open for 30 minutes to remove the smell.
Pulling out of a dollar general store was hit by a truck causing sever vehicle damage. Air bags and collision avoidance did not work. Engine did not shut down was still running after collision, no warning lights came on. I had to shut the car off. Could not move the car frame was broken. Called nissain a couple of times was told a rep would look at it but it could take up to 6 weeks never got a follow up call. Hit my head on the steering wheel. Have not contacted a lawyer as of yet.
I had to have the bars on top of my vehicle replaced due to a flapping noise. The dealership told me that the bars were broken. After replacing the bars, the roof began to leak and now the liner on the a-pillar has a water stain on it. The radio has static and my phone has little to no service. Due to everything being wet. If the moisture gets on wires if could cause a fire. There’s also strong gas fumes that leak from the tank and inside the cabin smells terrible for several days. I have to ride with the windows down. My dealership knows of this, but tells me the warranty is up. I have 52,000 miles on my vehicle now.
While driving 40-50 mph, my vehicle abruptly dropped to a speed of below 20 mph without warning, scaring me to the point of nearly driving off the side of the road, almost getting rear-ended, and catapulting me forcefully toward my windshield. Simultaneously, this warning light and exact message appeared with a very loud alarm/chime - ?? warning engine malfunction power reduced service engine now the initial occurrence happened on 07/03/2024 with my vehicle having only 10,208 miles. The same issue has occurred several times since. My vehicle has been inspected by the dealership/manufacturer where they have been unable to reproduce or replicate the problem. I have reported this to Nissan consumer affairs as well. The current recall on my vehicle that was announced in July 2025 associated with an engine bearing recall and its safety warnings correlate very closely with what I have experienced. This vehicle is unpredictable and unsafe to drive due to being no warning of the vehicle speed possibly dropping from a 70 mph highway speed down to 20 mph in a split second without warning. This is not only a danger to me and my passengers, but to the other potential vehicles and pedestrians around my vehicle. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
I was driving on the 60fwy east, close to 57 south but my lights ( engine and tire were on ),when suddenly I lost the control and I hit on the wall. The steering wheel was a little hard and the mechanic told me my catalyst wasn't good( engine and tire sensor aren't working correctly ). I thought it was my last day because that freeway is a little hight. I imaged my car flying. Also I have 1 accident . I crashed one car but it wasnt my blame. The car lost the control. Now I have to pay but it is expensive for me.
-the car was driving it started to smell burn. Car was parked. 10 minutes later took fire. Total loss. -safety was at risk due to fire. -car is a total loss -file a case with Nissan America on 6/2024 with pictures, police report and all, no solution as of today. Case #51927325 2009 Nissan Rogue -no warning only fire odor.

There is a very strong odor of gas that I can smell inside the cabin and fuel consumption is at an all time high. I drove on a full tank less than 100 miles and it was on empty. The storing gas odor is concerning and Nissan refuses to address or fix.

I purchased my 22 Rogue Feb 22 brand new. First issue: January 2023(2600 miles), engine oil drain pan had to be replaced. Apparently, it broke during oil change at dealership. I've heard others complain about the same thing. Second issue, 6500 miles (June 2024): begun driving weird. While driving the vehicle jerks, shudders, and acts like it is going to lose power. Losing power / shuddering while driving can be a danger to myself or others driving around me if SUV unexpectedly reduces in speed. This happens during both high and low speeds. Also stalls when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. Not sure if this was related to the software update (recall) I done at the dealership June 24, but issue 2 started immediately afterwards. SUV was taken to dealership when I started experiencing issue 2. Dealership had vehicle for 2 weeks, but return vehicle and said nothing was wrong. They said the Nissan engineer that came out found no issues as well. They did mention the turbo lagging, but sd that's normal. Fast forward, 6 weeks later (Aug 24), returned SUV to dealership because performance is worse and now engine light is on. Dealership advised light is bcz fuel pump needs to be replaced, but stated different than the current fuel pump recall on some 22 Rogues. How is this possible? based on my mileage, my car is still nearly brand new. Vehicle is at dealership now pending repairs.
The main and most dangerous issue is first hearing high pitch whining/winding sound while driving as the rpm's start to spike and stay high resulting & causing vehicle to lose power and speed for no apparent reason. Subsequently, as you attempt to depress the gas pedal to increase speed to try to mitigate the issue, the vehicle continues to lose power and speed regardless of how depressed gas pedal is (even completely depressed to floorboard). Within seconds vehicle is forced to a stop from lack of power and acceleration and will not continue to drive at all. This issue is nothing less than terrifying and incredibly dangerous especially while on the freeway with heavy traffic speeding and whizzing past you at 70+ mph. If this is happening to people at night, it's only a matter of time before someone will be killed by the speeding and oblivious traffic coming from behind if that has not already occurred. I was travelling with my child and our dog in the back and wonder would have happened if I couldn't have merged into the slower lanes in heavy traffic and off to the shoulder to "safety. " what will happen to a family in the fast lane that is not able to merge to safety or when they find themselves forced and stuck in the middle of the freeway between the median and the fast lane?? in addition, upon starting, vehicle will also idle higher than normal and stay high with slight fluxuation even while in park. While driving, rpm's continue to spike with every gear shift and vehicle is slow to respond and keep up with desired speed and will continue to worsen as time progresses. The longer the drive, the more (tired) and sluggish it seems with both lack of response, lack of power, and lack of speed. First signs of issue were while idling at stoplights, vehicle will shake and seem to idle very low as if going to die while at idle. There is also a noticeable shake while driving especially at higher speeds with this problem remaining and lasting the duration of drive.
-vehicle will stop accelerating in traffic -accelerate suddenly even when your foot is not on the pedal.
While driving severe shuddering and knocking of the engine occurred rendering vehicle undriveable. Car was towed to Nissan dealership resulting in the entire engine and turbocharger needing to be replaced. Technician reported needing excessive force to move the crankshaft, high gasoline scent from oil, and metal/bearing in oil pan.
