1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2021

The transmission on this car shredded itself to bits in a day at 86k miles. It made a very mild grinding noise going into work in the morning on an expressway and driving home the same night it sounded like the engine was about to jump out of the car. Revving engine with no power only for it to launch like a rocket with no warning, terrible clunking, stalling, the works, especially at a stop-start. I've researched online and found that this is a very common problem and that Nissan is fully aware that they break around 80k miles and choose to do nothing about it.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she could hear an abnormal tapping noise emitting from the engine without warning. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic were they informed her that the cvt transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer had yet to be notified of the failure. The manufacturer had been notified via letter; the contact had yet to hear back from the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 112,807. Jo.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2019

Driving on my daily commute to work a a few times a day at random times my Sentra suddenly loses acceleration on a 4 lane expressway at speeds of 60mph+, it makes a loud revving noise, and decelerates at an alarming rate with no brake lights, and is an accident waiting to happen, I've been through this twice before and it's the beginning stages of powertrain slowly going, this will be my 3rd transmission and only gets more dangerous and worse from here and yet Nissan doesn't want to admit that it's slipping and bucking and would rather wait until something bad happens to fix the problem if at all. 2013 Nissan Sentra with only 111k. . . This will be my 3rd transmission.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

My transmission will no longer operate safely. It jerks, makes noise, and it still has generally low mileage. The car developed the sound first, so I took it into my local Nissan dealer to have the transmission fluid serviced. They informed me at that time that the noise was in fact the transmission and that it was going bad.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

Vehicle has 68,000 miles. Recently noticed the car slipping and trying to get in 4th gear. It also makes a whining noise when in drive and park. . When in neutral noise goes away. From what I read and talked with transmission specialist. Cvt transmissions are not mechanically sound and fail prematurely. Even when you service the transmission at 30k and 65k with new cvt fluid. Presently my car is being inspected by aamco. I do not trust Nissan dealerships.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2018

2013 Nissan Sentra w/ 58,700 miles. The car experienced a loud whining noise, which progressively got worse until it started to shudder and rev intermittently until power was lost. The complete loss of power occured while driving approx. 30 mph on a 2-lane road in traffic, causing an unsafe condition. The driver was forced to stop the car in the travel lane with emergency flashers on while other vehicles passed on the wrong side of the road. Upon restarting the engine, the driver was able to get the car to a safe location but the problem remained, intermittent revving under load, shuddering, and eventually complete loss of power again. The car was towed to a dealership, and it is being examined by that dealer now. All symptoms point to failure of the cvt, a common problem with a range of Nissan vehicles that has been ongoing for years. Note, 3 weeks prior to this incident, the same dealer changed the transmission fluid and performed other regular maintenance service. From the consumer perspective, Nissan and this dealer are knowingly allowing unsafe vehicles to leave their lot and not informing owners of these issues.

7 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

The vehicle was in motion at 65 mph on the expressway in heavy traffic. It steadily began to decelerate, giving no warning, with no lights on the dash or noises. As I attempted to accelerate, the vehicle would not respond to accelerator pedal input, and I had traffic moving at a very high speed and was almost hit by another car attempting to get onto the very slim shoulder at low speed. The car had 74,000 miles on it at the time of the incident, and had excellent care taken of it, including its recommended maintenance. It was purchased brand new in December 2012, and I am the only owner. It was towed to the dealership, where I was told I was out of the 60,000 mile warranty. Initially quoted $4500 just to get the car back in working order, it took Nissan consumer affairs two weeks to arrive at a figure just short of $1100 to get my car running again. A transmission should not fail in a vehicle at all, let alone one that new, especially considering the level of care that it was given. This is a potentially very serious safety issue, as I almost had nowhere safe to pull over. If this had been the multi-lane highway I was on minutes before, I may have not been over to reach the shoulder and could have been hit or involved in a serious accident. Upon doing some research I found this issue has been encountered by a large number of Nissan owners with continuous variable transmissions and the company has done little or nothing about it, and have attempted to minimize the problem. By extending "financial assistance" down to $1100, in my view, they are admitting guilt as to this problem, as companies do not give money away. I feel cheated, and now do not feel safe driving the vehicle I had paid $21,000 not very long ago.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2018

The car started jerking and then making a loud hissing noise. The car was towed to aaa and they confirmed it needed a new transmission. I contacted Nissan to see if they would help pay for the $3,000 repair after reading the numerous complaints from other owners. After 12 days they declined because it was no longer under warranty and they did not recall the transmission. All things they knew prior to having me get a diagnostic from a Nissan dealership. I believe Nissan is knowingly defrauding consumers and costing them additional money when they know they are not going to assist in paying the repair cost. Also, there are so many complaints about this transmission, yet they refuse to recall the transmission. Someone needs to step in and stop this.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

Last Friday the cvt transmission in my 2013 Nissan Sentra stopped working with 30,024 miles on the car. My wife was driving it when it started making a noise, so she pulled over. She said it would not move fwd or rev after that. We purchased the car new and always took it to the dealer for all service.

10 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2017

The cvt began failing around 45,000 miles (about 4 years use). There was a jerking back and forth motion and the tachometer would rev up above 2,000 rpm and then fall back. Plus, there was a horrible, grating-type noise emanating from the car. The dealer at which I bought the car had gone out of business so I took the Sentra to a different Nissan dealer where they replaced the cvt with a different, "remanufactured" unit. Well, just 2-3 weeks later, that second cvt also began to fail! I thought the car was going to die on a busy highway but, fortunately, managed to make it to my exit. I got to the first traffic light and stopped. When the light turned green, the car would not move when I applied gas. I shut off the car and turned it back on and could then finally get it to slowly move. Needless to say, I returned to the dealer where the rep said it was really "unheard of" for a transmission to fail twice. But when I called a few days later, he told me that the computer had shown some sort of failure. Now, nearly 2 weeks later, I still don't have my car back. I suspect that transmission #3 also failed and, perhaps, the dealer doesn't know what to do at this time. I do not feel safe in this car and I don't think I will ever trust another cvt from any manufacturer. I want to stress that the dealer has been wonderful! this is my fourth Nissan vehicle (2 maximas, then an altima, now the Sentra) and they were very reliable. I got nearly 180,000 miles on the second maxima and nearly 150,000 miles on the altima. But neither of those 2 vehicles had cvts! thank goodness my powertrain warranty is still in effect!.

11 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

Purchase a demo Nissan Sentra 2013 on may 12, 2017. Return 3 weeks later to complain about the sluggish during take off to Nissan south of morrow, GA. The service person drove it and found nothing wrong. Aug 4,2017 whining noise while park and the engine is running, the service manager drove he said he did not hear but normal sounds but was told I needed the 60,000 mile service pack, which I purchase at the price of $307 on Aug 4,. Oct. 2017, now the transmission is whining loudly and now they tell me my warranty has expired it will cost me $4,000 to repair.

12 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2017

Been driving the car and notice I was hearing a bad roaring noise soon I heard a loud pop in the back of the car and went to look at the drum on passenger side the adjusters screw had completely broke in peace 94k miles been doing this noise on and off and transmission has tendency to feel like it starts to really hesitate badly.

13 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

An engineer said that car had been overheating in the transmission for a long period of time. My service team did not know about it. The car failed at 89,000 miles and a month before I owned it 3 years. The engineer said that every 50000 miles the 2013 Sentra needs a $4000 plus new transmission. I turned the car on after parking and while turning the car everything seemed fine. I put my foot on the gas and the car would not accerate at all and made chunking noises. I parked the car and called a tow truck. The car had two major checkups at the dealership July-August and was assured that nothing was wrong with the car. Engineer said it had been overheating during the time of the major check up. Nissan tech at service center swore my car was in perfect working condition.

14 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2013

I only had my car for about 10 months. I keep my car updated with the maintenance. I drove to las vegas, nevada Friday afternoon. My car was running great I get to las vegas nevada I here this loud grinding crinkly noise coming from my engine or transmission. I take it to planet Nissan in las vegas nevada. They took forever to even take me as a customer. Then they come out and say you are not eligible for a rental and your transmission went out. They proceeded to tell me that I will be responsible for the car as far as picking it up when its fixed. This is the worst experience I had with cars. This is the third time something bad happens to this car and its supposed to be brand new. I bought it with 32 miles on it. Mind you all this was on a trip I took to vegas with my family. My two year old son was drained from this experience having to spend 6 hours at planet Nissan. They even try selling me a another new Sentra.
