At around the 96450 mileage mark, I noticed a creaking sound when turning steering wheel. My mechanic inspected it and determined my lower right ball joint needed repair. He also determined my left front driver coil spring was broken. I keep my car in very good working order and gently drive it around 10,000 miles per year since purchasing it. Not sure why these two items malfunctioned. I have noticed other Versa owners on the internet reporting similar problems. Thanks for looking into this.

56 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2011 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

On 7/20/15 was outside heard what sounded like an explosion from garage area. Looked around couldn't find anything. Chalked it up to concrete cracking after heavy flooding in the area. 7/23/15 got in car to go to town. The car did not seem to want to move turned steering wheel and bang the sound of metal hitting concrete. Looked to see what happened and found the right front strut coil spring broke and piece of it was laying under the car. So now I know what the sound from Monday was. Of course this could have been a lot worse if had been driving. For a coil spring to unseat from strut mount while parked is an obvious manufacturer defect. Where the spring broke showed sign of old crack in steel. It had a rusted spot about a 1/4" deep one side. Have contacted Nissan and a rep. Is supposed to contact me. Car cannot be moved without risk of further damage. And of course its passed 3/36 warranty. I will wait and see what Nissan rep. Has to say, but I expect to have repair myself at my own cost. Which I will replace both front struts to be on the safe side, and have to have an alignment.

60 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/12/2015

61 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

My wife was driving the 2010 Nissan Versa hatchback on a secondary road doing less then 30 mph when she suddenly heard a 'bang' sound. She then claimed she heard a similar sound when making left hand turns. When she asked me to inspect the vehicle I was shocked to see that the driver's side front coil spring had broken in two. That was the last thing I expected to see. The 'similar' sound she heard was the sound of broken section of coil spring rattling around the remaining spring/strut assembly. Fortunately because of the nature of the break it was captive and there was no way for it to become suddenly separated from the vehicle while driving. This component on a car should never fail. Had she been driving at highway speed she could have been killed. We paid $350 to have one spring replaced!!! I still have the broken spring. The mechanic saved it for me. I also have close up photographs of the broken spring that I am more then willing to provide to any agency investigating this matter. Nissan should own up and replace these defective springs before someone is killed.

65 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

I was driving slowly, around 20 mph, and exiting my workplace when I heard a sudden loud noise (like a clang) from the front area of my car. I thought I had hit something, but I stopped to look and there were no pot holes or anything around the car that I could have hit. I tried to continue home, as I live very close to a shop and was going to have the car looked at. . . But less than a mile later the car began to smoke from the passenger side wheel. I pulled off the road and had to have the car towed last night. Today I found out it was the coil spring, which had snapped off and was digging into my tire. Now I have to have to the coil replaced and purchase a new tire -- the one I have is nearly shredded. While I'm disappointed that I'm just outside my 5/60 warranty (currently at approx. 63,000 miles), I feel incredibly fortunate that this didn't happen on the interstate because I could have been seriously injured or killed by this malfunction. There was no warning that it was about to happen, I just happened to be going fairly slow when it did.

66 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 06/30/2015

While driving on a country side road at 40 miles per hour, passenger side coil spring broke without warning after a small hill top (while the car was compressing the suspension) and tore the sidewall of the front right tire. The tire instantly deflated, the rim punched hard into the ground resulting in a temporary loss of control of the vehicle. The vehicle managed to stay on the road. Car will need a new right suspension and some repair to the front bumper (scratch marks).

68 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa

The front passenger side coil spring fractured while the car was in motion. I had been driving about 0. 1 miles after a left turn and was traveling at a low rate of speed when the coil fractured and a section of the coil punctured and tore the inner wall of the tire causing a sudden tire failure. The sound of the fracture was very loud metal on metal sound, drawing people out from nearby buildings. The car was towed to the local dealership where new front coil springs were installed, the front passenger tire replaced and a front end alignment was performed.

69 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 06/25/2015

During routine front brake pad and rotor replacement I was informed by my mechanic that one of the front coil springs was physically broken. It appears to have snapped and it was in jeopardy of popping or puncturing my tire. The mechanic was shocked that this would happen with such low mileage on the car (~25,900, 5 years). He called Nissan to ask about the issue and they said it was a common problem. Both front coil springs were replaced. I do recall driving around may 1, 2015 on the highway around 65 mph and hearing a loud clattering noise under my car but thought nothing of it at the time. That could have been when the coil spring snapped.

70 Front Suspension Coil Spring problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

The coil spring on my front passenger side tire broke in two and then moved out of place to damage and eventually pop my tire (in a matter of minutes). The edges of the break on the spring are very jagged and tore away the rubber from my tire as I was driving.
