Steering Problems of Nissan Versa - part 1

Rod, piston breaks and punctures tire after losing ability to steer, accelerate, brake. Manufacturer defect/recall on stated parts not revealed until after car crashed. No test drive given. Car began experiencing horrible loud banging noise immediately after leaving dealership. Was not offered to test drive. Took to dealer next day to check problem (noise) and was told nothing is wrong after taking to dealer. On way home, experienced erratic steering, unable to keep stable on highway. Rounded corner and the automobile completely failed to steer, brake, tire punctured by rod come to find out, a known defect straight from manufacturer was problem. No apology. Dealer will not take back new vehicle despite customer fears, claims to have fixed problem but not the body of vehicle stating customer had to go elsewhere to fix body with no offer of reimbursement for body work. No apologies for customer nearly escaping what could have easily been death as result of manufacturer defect. Purchased vehicle first without knowing of recall on part(s), was not informed of defect and if test drive was given, car would not have been taken by customer.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the power steering warning light intermittently illuminated, and the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The failure had occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the steering control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,535.

The brakes fight and lock from time to time. The steering will get a tug like a car is in front of me. The engine has a weird tug before pulling of and switching gears. When I pull off while turning the car feels like it completely losses power!?.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

When you press on the accelerator and gain speed the car abruptly jerks to the right. I believe it’s caused by a defect of the traction control system.

The power steering system in my Nissan Versa has put me at risk it must be repaired because it is part of the recall car affected.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Versa. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45-50 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The contact stated that he had to apply pressure to turn off of the road. As a result, the vehicle crashed into an impact attenuator. No injuries were sustained. No police report was filed. No medical attention was needed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer nor manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000. VIN was unavailable.

My vehicle stops running whenever I turn on heater or a/c. When either is turned on, dashboard lights up with four or five other lights like battery, p/s, brake, temp, and other. When a/c or heater is not turned on, then my car is running. It looks like my vehicle may be defective in some way. I bought it only last year and I don’t understand why this particular control for heater or a/c is causing the problems. I believe some parts may be sub-standard and they may will cause some problems one day.

I bought a used 2019 Nissan Versa with 34, 213 miles from enterprise car sales on 07/08/2020 and at 45,000 miles on 12/20/2020 on my way back from myrtle beach car does not want to accelerate and or change gears when pressing down on the gas pedal. Out of town mechanic looked at the car and advised it has issues with cvt. Car has a loud noise when shifting from park into drive and or reverse and at times does not want to move. Car only moved after turning it on and off. Car struggles to take off at lights and has weird loud noise coming from the transmission, car also jerks really bad when taking off at a red too green light. Also the battery is 1 year old and is defective and gas reading gauge reads wrong when car is filled up with gas. Traction control light comes on and off for no reason in dry roads. When entering a highway car struggles to gain speed and jerks when shifting gears. Dealer notified since car has 45,168 miles and is still under the Nissan 46,213 warranty. Car is park and at times does not want to move. Waiting on a dealer appt.

Already having transmission problems. Car jerks and slows me dow and the steering has gotten almost unmanageable in less than 200 miles. The wheels already need alignment and I've hit no curbs. This car is another disaster from Nissan. The cvt was a terrible thing that has happened to vehicles.

While my daughter was pulling out of a parking lot onto the street, the steering suddenly locked. This has happened a few times before. The car had stalling issues and would occur when the car stalled, but this time and several other times the car did not stall. This is very dangerous and I have seen many of the same complaints online friom other drivers. I can't believe no action has been taken on this issue.

Due to rust corrosion on the underneath frame and carriage of this vehicle, the control arm on both sides has snapped out of place. This has affected my steering capabilities. It also almost caused a serious accident on the highway. I am lucky to be alive. The vehicle is with my mechanic and I will include as many pictures as I can. The recall states that the undercarriage of the vehicle may have unnecessary rust and unfortunately my pin number has been involved. The rust corrosion is so severe that the frame is literally rotting completely out. There is holes you can see through all over the frame of this vehicle. I feel as though Nissan not only put my immediate life in danger but also many other drivers on the road as well. I was in the air force and they are reactivating me back into service due to the covid. Problem is that I no longer have a vehicle that will get me from ohio down to mississippi.

My engine light has always been on in my car contacted the dealership and they never cared to take care of the situation. My car has a problem with picking up speed and turning corners. Took it to a mechanic and said it’s my transmission and that it was never good especially the cvt transmission in my 2016 nisan Versa that it was recalled and no one contacted me. I would like it fixed I’m a single parent and I need my car.

The front airbag is not functioning properly. Because of the steering I almost had an accident, my wheel didn't want to turn. The brakes always make noise.

When driving on highway at about 60 mph car feels very out of control like if its on roller skates, feels like car is going to sway this way or that way. Very unsafe feeling. Very scary.

Vehicle lost control exiting a right hand curve of a county road. The vehicles speed at the time of the crash is estimated at approximately 55-65 mph. A post-crash mechanical inspection of the vehicle was completed. The inspection revealed the splines on the steering wheel and the steering shaft had been damaged. This damage was consistent in appearance with the wheel being placed on the shaft and pressed via the steering wheel nut when the splines were out of alignment. The steering wheel nut was able to be spun with one finger during the inspection. Both findings were not consistent with the expected crash damage given the crash sequence. An airbag recall had been fulfilled on the vehicle in October 2019 in which the steering wheel was removed. The recall was fulfilled by a Nissan dealership in greeley, CO.

While driving and when accelerating the vehicle waives to the right and since the steering wheel is held straight the car comes back into the lane. This happens at speeds 30+ and specially 60+. I changed 4 michelin new tires, did alignment and the problem was not solved. Took the car to a local mechanic and he said that suspension is good "tight" and no leaking is visible from the joints. Problems is a safety issue since I am planning to give the car to my 16 year old daughter.

I took my car to a local Nissan dealership for an airbag recall on the driver side and after the recall was supposedly done because after this I'm not even positive they worked on my car for that recall. After the recall was done now the car horn in my steering wheel is not working when it was working before. The Nissan advisor said that they can't fix it and the reason is because is an old car. They want me to pay almost 700 hundred dollars for them to fix what they ruined. Now I have no car horn. This is a safety hazard for anyone on the road. A car horn works to advice other drivers of any hazard. From this happening to me I now think that they didn't do anything in regards to airbag recalls and that I just took my car just for them to scam me so I can pay for a part that was working and that they ruined. The Nissan I went too is naples Nissan in naples, florida. I also have called Nissan consumer affairs and they haven't done anything in this matter I have two claim numbers already I have called twice and there not doing anything about this matter.

Steering clutch transmission. Letter regarding the malfunctioning of gear shifts, transmission, clutch damaged by 5 speed manual Nissan transmission and stopped my ability to shift gears from 5. No gears worked I was traveling on arizona hwy 60 with cars going 75 miles an hour. I was headed west to phoenix for 17 hwy and I was between exits 152 and 153 that is where highway patrol when they arrived could stop traffic and use their vehicle to push mine to the side of the road. I had been driving in the middle lane and cars or trucks could have killed me even though I had my flashers on until highway patrol arrived. I have reports. The sudden malfunction of the major components on a new vehicle purchased on February 27th from jim click Nissan in tucson arizona. The car was manufacturered in mexico at one of Nissan's plants (aqua).

While driving in the freeway this morning I heard a click and then the "ps", power steering, light turned on. The car was driving in a straight line when this occured. When exiting the freeway it was clear that the electric power steering had turned off. When I got to work unattached my bluetooth obd-ii reader to check the codes. The reader showed zero codes recorded. I left the reader installed. When I started the car to go to lunch the "ps" light was off again and power steering was functioning. When pulling into a parking lot for lunch the power steering suddenly cut out and the "ps" light turned back on. My obd-ii reader reported no codes. Upon starting the car again the "ps" light was once again off and the power steering worked again. The power steering worked during the drive home and the "ps" light stayed off.

When car is in motion the brakes will not work and it slides. The abs and traction control lights come on and the speedometer jumps. I've had 2 mechanics look at it and they say its because the axle nut backs off. Took it to gunter Nissan on 6/6/19 and they refused to service it saying I had to contact Nissan corporate but Nissan corporate says I have to take it to a dealership.

When I first got my car it was feeling like it was going in and out of gears (still do). My brakes aren't good and when I start my car from not driving for hours it make a loud noise.

Vehicle was parked when steering wheel locked up and ignition switch wouldn't move.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Nissan Versa. While the contact was driving 35 mph, an oncoming vehicle cut across in front of her vehicle. The brake pedal was depressed, but failed to operate and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle crashed into a sign post, ran off of the roadway, and ended up in a ditch. The air bags deployed. The contact sustained a bruised lower back, several scrapes and contusions, and a slight burn to the left arm from the air bag deployment. Medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Autonation Nissan marietta (925 cobb pkwy se, marietta, GA 30060, (770) 674-6081) was contacted. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

Driving on a curvy road and lost steering. Took this car to a mechanic and the coil spring and sway bar where broken. Several bolts holding plastic under car fell off and bumper half way fell off while driving. Also the heat shield has been welded twice. This car has 80,000 miles and has had so many problems!.

Steering wheel would move but the wheels would not the breaks don't work even if replaced. Car is totaled now. Just because it's there anyone would move but the tires wouldn't nothing else was wrong with the car. The breaks are new. It is like the care just shut down.

We own a 2013 Nissan Versa, with 52,310 miles. We keep great care of the car, with routine maintance checks, oil changes, tire rotations, etc. The car is housed in the midwest, thus driving on a fairly flat surface it's whole existence. The vehicle has never been in an accident. We found out we have to get a whole new transmission put in our vehicle costing $4,050. This seems outrageous as our vehicle has less miles than the average vehicle puts on each year. We also have to get new front brushing costing $387. 53. This is ridiculous for a car with that little of mileage on it. It has never been in an accident of any kind. Outrageous!. The vehicle clocks when braking, going over the smallest bumps, and turning. The vahie struggles to get up to 40 mph and has a noticeable kick to it. We took the vehicle in as soon as we noticed a problem.

Steering wheel came off the car.

While driving, I was going about 25mph, but was coming to an intersection. Before getting to the intersection the light was blinking yellow due to the time so I started to slow down so I could yield through the light. At this time, my son who was 3yrs 2mo old (at the time) was in the backseat in his carseat. As I gradually stepped on the brake pedal, I then felt a big slam, and my face smacked the airbag and dust flew all over my vehicle, and son in the backseat who didnt have an airbag deploy. As I came to realize what happened my son was in the backseat screaming and I had smoke coming from my hood. I hit a city light pole outside of a 7-eleven store. I was unsure of what happened that caused the accident, but after it happened I got out of my car in complete shock of what hit me. My son was in pullups, and the gel stuff inside the diaper had flew all over my car as it caused the seatbelt to tighten around his legs. I grabbed my son out of the car, because it was smoking and the first thing I should have done was not moved. When I got out of car to see what hit me, I stayed on the sidewalk and waited 35mins for a cop, so by the time the cop came, who never called ems, told me I was being cited and they took my vehicle to the impound lot. The car then was considered totalled and because I was in an accident, gasoline was leaking and they said it was considered hazardous. I didn't nor did my child receive medical attention because we did not have medical insurance at the time but the officer didnt call ems. I then had to pay to get my things from the vehicle from the impound lot, and they were treating me very poorly about what I could grab and what had to left with it. I also had to pay court costs, and fines and due to this accident, I have suffered trauma, and my son im sure has also. My body has major pains as well as my legs, hips, neck and severe lower back pain. I am unable to care for my child as he needs at times because my body hurts so bad, I cant help.

The steering wheel suddenly started turning all the way to the left on its own while I was driving straight about 50mph on the highway. The steering wheel locked in this position and was impossible to turn back to a neutral position. The car veered all the way to the right, causing me to spin several times before hitting the concrete barrier. The airbags did not deploy after hitting the concrete barrier. We always took my car for all necessary recalls, the last of which was on 6/12/2018 for airbags.
