1 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

The fuel gauge on my vehicle is erratic and does not accurately show the amount of fuel in the tank. It will read full when almost empty, empty when full, or anything in-between. There is no way to tell how much fuel is in the tank which I think is a safety concern. Nissan knows about this problem with the Xterra fuel sensor but will not issue a recall or fix my vehicle because it doesn't have the right VIN according to their customer service people. There are many many other consumers commenting on-line with the same problem. Why has a general recall not been issued??? Nissan should not be able to get away with knowing of faulty equipment and not fixing it. Thank you for your help!.

2 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge misreads current amount of fuel in tank (I currently have a full tank and it reads empty on the gauge) this problem has been happening every time I filled my tank, which is often because I commute over 100 miles a day. I have called Nissan because there is a current recall for the fuel sending unit, which they admit is causing the problems, however my 2006 Nissan Xterra is not in included in the recall meant for 2006 Xterras, causing me to pay for the unit out of my own pocket, which is roughly $400. I see this as a problem since I cannot have an accurate reading on my fuel gauge, it may cause my vehicle to stall in traffic. There are many other Nissans with this same problem.

3 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

The fuel gauge is not accurate after filling the tank. It gradually moves up to the proper amount after a long time. Up to 70 miles till it registers correctly.

4 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2010

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra with 70k miles on it. My gas tank was under 1/4 of a tank. I filled up and when I started my truck the next day the service engine light came on. I tightened my gas cap and the light still remains. My gas tank had also showed that I had an empty tank. It took a day or so of driving until the gauge showed the correct amount of gas.

5 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2009

I stopped at a gas station to fill up my 2006 Nissan Xterra and after the fill up my gas gauge still read 1/4 tank. After a mile of driving, the "service engine" light came on. I brought the vehicle to aamco to have the code read. The error code came up as po463. Aamco told me that this is a very common problem with the Nissans and that I should review other cases on the internet. I have 47,000 miles on the vehicle and have read many threads on websites that show this being a common problem with Nissans' around the same mileage. With the amount of problems that I have seen with this exact problem around the same mileage, I believe Nissan should issue a recall, especially since the fuel level sensor is not covered under their extended warranty.

6 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2009

Service engine soon light came on one day. Next time I filled my tank up with gas the fuel gauge didn't register and stayed on empty. Since then it has fluctuated from 1/4 tank to empty and does not correctly gauge the amount of gas in the tank. Ses light remains on.

7 Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. When the fuel tank is filled to its capacity within 3 miles the fuel gage indicated that the vehicle has no fuel and the check engine light is illuminated. When the engine was shut off, the fuel gage indicated the correct amount of fuel. Since the failure has occurred, the contact has to restart the vehicle for the correct fuel gage reading. The vehicle is being diagnosed by the dealer. The VIN is unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 41,000.
