The fuel hand gets to half a tank and suddenly goes to empty there for I am not able to track my fuel usage properly and this causes the service engine light to show the Nissan company will not fix my vehicle they say its out of warranty.
Fuel gauge does accurately display remaining fuel in tank and service engine light has come on.
One day after filling my tank with gas, the check engine light came on. After having the obd2 scanned I had an p0463 trouble code for the fuel level sending unit. The fuel level gauge stopped working after that and still does not give a correct reading. I never know how much gas is in the tank!.
Recall for 2006 Xterra with manufacturer date of Jan-March. My manufacturer date of my vehicle is August but has the same fuel level sensor issue listed on the recall. This has caused me to dangerously run out of gas on an interstate causing hazardous conditions. Problem: fuel sensor indicates there is fuel in the tank when in fact it is empty. It either stays full or stays at half a tank. The service engine soon light comes on intermittently.
The fuel level sensor is malfunctioning, it suddenly goes to empty at no particular level the fuel tank is actually at. My risk is to run out of gas in the middle of an emergency situation. My coworker has the same problem with his Xterra as well, it seems to be a factory defect for these cars. Someone needs to check this out as there might be many consumers affected by this issue.
My 2006 Xterra had the p0463 code come up, with the 'service engine soon' light, and my fuel gauge not properly displaying what is actually in the fuel tank. The fuel gauge will drop to show empty when I fill the tank, other times it will slowly raise up to show full, but it can be all over the place. I use my trip odometer to know where I'm actually at for fuel. If this is a known on going issue with Xterra's, then there should be a mandatory recall. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
The molded fuel tank shell deformed causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has fuel when the tank is empty.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated the fuel sending unit failed. The contact had the unit replaced once under warranty and again under NHTSA recall campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system: gasoline storage auxiliary tank) but the failure recurred. The contact believed that the manufacturer did not create a proper recall repair. The failure mileage was 74,585 and the current mileage was 78,000.
Our fuel sensory went out on our Nissan Xterra shortly before we reached 100000 miles. Nissan is aware of the problem and sent a letter out for a warranty only. However, the warranty included 2006 Nissan Xterras with less than 72000 miles on them. When I did research I found that over 80000 2006 Nissan Xterras were affected by this. I contacted Nissan USA to have them resolve the issue of the fuel tank sensor and indicated I would like the defect fixed. They refused to fix it and indicated it would cost me a little over $400 to fix. I asked them for financial assistance since I do not have this to pay for the repair on top of my $433 a month a car payment. I recently had a baby and never know when my car is empty. The sensor no longer reads fuel levels and is constantly showing empty. I was up for emissions testing this year and can not pass emissions until the sensor has been replaced. I believe since this is such a wide spread issue that Nissan should recall the part. Just this week my vehicle ran out of gas according to my speedometor I had 100 miles left on the tank it misread and I was stuck with my sreaming 5 month old on the side on the road at night waiting for aaa to arrive . This wide spread problem needs to be addressed by Nissan and not just shoved to the side. Way to many vehicles are affected for this to remain a warranty issue only!!!!! I have see the stats listed here on NHTSA. Campaign id # 10v075000.
I drive a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The service engine light turned on after I filled my vehicle with gas and the gas gauge read 1/4 tank. The gauge slowly went up to 1/2 tank, but now I can't trust it.
Fuel sending unit level faulty. It is a pratically new and low milage car. The fuel level gauge is not accurate and I was running on an empty tank when it showed 1/2 a tank full. That led to my car running out of gas in the middle of the road late at night commuting home from work.
Fuel sending unit on 2006 Nissan Xterra fails intermittently when tank is low. The gauge will not move to full at gas station after filling--but does so gradually taking about a day or so. This has occurred twice when on vacation, when gas tank gets low (at home, we never let get below half). Nissan will not fix unless it is in failure or check engine light is on when you present @ dealer. Even when it fails, the check engine light does not come on.
Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, Xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender. Float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. This has happened and been repaired 4 times on my 2006 Xterra without resolution.
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle still registered a quarter tank. The check engine light came on. I checked the code and the fuel sending unit/sensor had high input. After coming home and doing research I find out that many people are having the same problem. This needs to be fixed and the customers shouldn't have to pay for something that was knowingly faulty from the company.
I fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the light comes on, then shortly the check engine soon light comes on it seems like there is a recall but only to a range of VIN's and unfortunately my car is not in this range. The NHTSA campaign id number is 10v075000. The symptoms are exactly the same as described in this camp. Id number.
1. I filled my gas tank, then as I was driving down the highway. 2. The check engine light came on and my tank reads as empty and the ses light is on, even though a full tank. 3. Nissan has a recall on my type and year of vehicle for this exact problem (fuel system). But my VIN does not qualify for the recall; even though the exact year and type is the same as the recall. I had to have the fuel level sending unit replaced.
When fuel gauge reaches half a tank then the needle goes all the way down indicating there is not gas and the light goes on. The dte goes from couple of hundred miles left to zero. It happen everytime the needle reaches half a tank.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The fuel sensor failed and does not give an accurate measure of the fuel that is in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they replaced the fuel sensor at his expense for $375. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would not reimburse him for the repair since the VIN was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 30,000. Updated 11/03/10 updated 11/04/jb.
2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge displays incorrect readings, I have extended warranty and there is a recall but my vehicle is not on the list. I have taken to dealer but they claim nothing is wrong with it. Except when I drive vehicle gas gauge goes from quarter tank to empty then back to quarter tank.
2006 Nissan fuel gauge shows that the vehicle has one quarter tank when the fuel tank could actually be empty.
Fuel gauge of 2006 Nissan Xterra reports wrong fuel level. If the fuel drops below 1/4 tank the check engine (ce) light comes on. After filling up the tank it takes about 20 miles of driving for the gauge to go all the way to full (not instantly as it's supposed to do). If the car is driven for more than 300 miles, and the tank is maintained above 1/4 tank full the ce light goes off. As soon as level drops below 1/4 the ce light comes back on.
2006 Nissan Xterra ses light came on during hot weather while driving, ses code number p0463 fuel sending unit. Filled up tank and gas gauge doesn't work shows 1/2 tank when full, cool weather problem goes away some times, hot weather problem comes back, I never know how much gas I have, Nissan recall doesn't apply to mine due to VIN numbers not matching recall. Nissan consumer affairs was no help, bought brand new $30,000+ ,,75,000 miles now problem started at 71,000. Seems Nissan has a big problem with this issue and is very slow to address it. Poor customer service, danger of running out of fuel as I never know if my gauge is correct.
I have a 2006 Xterra se with 67000 miles that is giving me a error code of p0463 for about 3 months now. I filed a complaint to Nissan consumer affairs but they decline the repair. The issue I am having with my Xterra is fuel gauge not working and the service engine soon is on. . Read more...
After filling tank with gas completely, fuel gauge still reads 1/4 full. This happens 100% of the time since the first time it occurred.
My fuel gauge is faulty. The gas gauge is showing more gas than there is in the tank, then I won't "refill" when the car is filled up. The truck also has a service engine light on with the code p0463 which is related to the fuel level sending unit. This situation could leave me to stall out due to a lack of gas when the sensor is showing gas in the tank.
Fuel level sensor fails sometimes showing tank empty, 1/4 full, or reads correctly and the obdc system issues a "check engine" code. . This is a known and common problem with Nissan vehicles. Nissan has only issued a recall for cases where the sensor stops working and does not generate a "check engine" code.
2006 Nissan Xterra obdii error code p0463 - fuel level sensor a circuit high input: essentially, filling up your gas tank is not registered by the gas gauge, so you run the risk of running out of gas and getting stranded somewhere. The estimated repair cost is very high . . .
1. Had just filled up my gas tank on a road trip and the check engine light came on. 2. The fuel gage read empty even though it was just filled. It scared me as I thought maybe there was a gas leak. Checked around and didn't see or smell gas so continued on home with shot nerves. 3. Had the check engine code diagnosed and it read as a faulty fuel level sensor. Upon further research on the web this turns out to be a very common problem which Nissan has not recalled. It will cost $500+ to fix.
Fuel gauge failed and check engine light is on. When the tank is just filled, the level registers about 1/8 to 1/4. I have to refuel by odometer. This started about 3 weeks ago, I am on my third tank and it still does it.
I went to fill up my tank with gas (was 3/4 empty). After fill up, the sensor light came on and the gas gauge continued to read 1/4 tank.
After filling up the gas tank on my 2006 Xterra the gas gauge read empty and the service engine light came on. I contacted the Nissan dealer who informed me that this was not related to any recall. How can this be when I have notice many other complaints from 2006 Xterra owners reporting the same problem.
My 2006 Nissan Xterra has a fuel gauge problem. After filling up the fuel tank, my fuel gauge registered full. After a few days of driving, the fuel gauge did not show a lower fuel level. A few days later, the fuel gauge needle dropped all the way down to empty and the empty indicating light turned on. I had only driven 100 miles so I knew that the tank was not empty. A diagnostic check revealed that the fuel tank sending unit may be at fault. (my daughter owns a Honda element and she experienced a similar problem with her fuel gauge and had it repaired under warranty. ) I am driving the car and must use the diagnostic code reader to cancel the "service car" light. My code reader says that the fuel tank level sensor is the problem. My car has just run past its warranty period so costly repairs will result when I get the car repaired. Could it be that the fuel tank sending units within the fuel tank were manufactured by the same manufacturer (japanese)? I read an newspaper article stating that Nissan was to have a recall on this fuel tank problem but their reply to my email was that there is no recall forth coming.
2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge not working properly its shows there is more fuel in the tank then what there actually is. It occurs on every fuel fill up. I have almost ran out of fuel while on the highway. I have contact Nissan about the problem and was told that my vehicle was not on the recall list, and it would cost me $500 dollars to repair. The check engine light now turns on and off, I had the vehicle diagnosis and the diagnostic code was for a faulty fuel level unit.
The instrument panel fuel gauge showed that the vehicle has gas when the tank is actually empty, the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled in moving traffic causing a risk for an accident.
I own an 06 Nissan Xterra with 45k miles. After topping off my fuel tank with exxon fuel (not a discount fuel), my check engine light came on and the fuel gauge would not show full. After about 45 minutes of driving the gauge eventually crept to read nearly full, however the check engine light remains on. After some research apparently the fuel tanks sending unit is at fault and was a recalled item on Nissan Xterras produced before mine.
