36 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

Fuel gauge issue. The Nissan Xterra is exactly 3 years old and has about 48,0000 mile on it. A few days ago the check engine light came on and code readers says p0463 - fuel level sensor circuit high input problem 1) open or short circuit 2)poor electrical connection 3) faulty fuel level sensor. I searched the internet and it is a very common problem on Nissan Xterra's, pathfinders, and frontiers. I read there was a recall on older models but haven't confirmed it yet. This problem could lead to a problem as people run out gas when they don't expect too - or else they have to pay $600 to have it repaired because it requires removal of the gas tank.

37 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

There was no indication of a problem until I topped off my fuel tank. I noticed the service engine soon light illuminate and the fuel gauge did not move. The gauge eventually crept up to near full after approximately 50 miles of driving but the light did not turn off. The same symptoms continue today. I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealer and they diagnosed the error as a faulty fuel sensor. Nissan advised me today that my 2006 Xterra is apparently not covered by the current recall of the faulty fuel sensors.

38 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2010

Failure of fuel tank level sending unit to accurately report actual fuel level in gas tank. Fuel level sending unit will indicate full fuel, or partial full and then drop immediately to below empty will fuel remains in tank. Nissan currently has a recall campaign (nhsta #10v075000) on the fuel level sending unit for 2006-2008 Nissan Xterras, which provides for the replacement of this part at Nissan's expense. However Nissan denied my claim under this recall stating that my VIN number was not covered under the recall. I indicated that my vehicle was exhibiting the same problem that prompted this recall and that my vehicle should be included since my vehicle obviously had the same defect. Nissan north America refused to include my vehicle in the recall and I have been forced to replace the part at my own expense. Nstsa should require Nissan to include all Xterra vehicles produced by them for the years covered under the recall, especially those that are exhibiting the identical problems which precipitated the original recall, and not allow them to exclude certain VIN units simply because they wish to do so.

39 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the vehicle stopped unexpectedly due to a lack of gasoline in the tank. The fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading of "half full"; however, the fuel tank was empty. The vehicle had not been repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was 64,000. The current mileage was 68,000.

40 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

I own a 2006 Nissan Xterra. I went to fill up the tank yesterday and once filled the tank still registered empty. A few miles down the road the check engine light came on. The tank still reads empty. As a mechanic I know what the problem is, and from reading online I have found alot of others with my same vehicle have had the same problem. The fuel sending unit is faulty and needs to be replaced. I was informed that the part was not under warranty and feel that with the common occurrence of the part failure this could become a serious safety hazard. Drivers have no way of knowing how much fuel is in their tanks. I believe that Nissan should acknowledge the severity of this problem.

41 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2009

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. After performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".

42 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2009

Error code p0463 I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600.

43 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Fuel-sending unit prone to failure on 2006 Nissan Xterra. Shortly after purchasing my used Nissan the fuel sending unit failed and had to be replaced last fall. Less than a year later and the fuel sending unit is once again sending incorrect readings to the fuel indicator. Even after filling the tank the fsu reads as 3/4 full and does not indicate properly as fuel is used. Nissan has not provided a replacement part that fixes the problem, the replacement component is the same as the one that was installed at the factory and just as prone to failure. This could lead to the dangerous situation of running out of fuel in the middle of a busy road, bridge or rail crossing. Nissan has recalled only selected Xterras, but all 2005+ Xterras use the same part. Nissan says that this issue is a safety concern but has only issues a limited recall when many more vehicles are affected.

44 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2009

My 2006 Nissan Xterra's service engine light is on. Repair shop said diagnostic code is high level fuel sensor. Gas gauge indicates either empty or half even after filling the tank. Seems to be a common problem.

45 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

2006 Nissan Xterra. I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank, the needle went to empty, and the low fuel light came on. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I assumed it was a fuel sending unit/sensor. After returning home, I went online and searched for this problem which lead me to x. Nissanhelp. Com and I read where many others have experienced the same problem. It confirmed that it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterra's, frontier's, and pathfinder's should also be recalled for the same problem. Why wait for people to run out of gas and possibly cause accidents and deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600.

46 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

2006 Nissan Xterra: fuel sending unit/sensor not working properly. Gas needle fuel tank gauge is not registering full tank. Check engine light has lit up.

47 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

Gas tank was reading 1/4 tank so I filled it and the tank still showed 1/4 tank and within an hour the service engine soon light came on. . . Went to advance auto, received the same code as everyone else who has a complaint about this issue (0463) and was told that it's a fuel sending unit problem. The next day my tank finally registered as being full but the service engine light remained on. Had the code reset and now I am cautious about letting the fuel get too low in my vehicle. Nissan should be responsible for this not the customer.

48 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

We own a 2006 Nissan Xterra with approximately 55k miles. Along with thousands of others, we are experiencing the same problem of a faulty fuel level sensor. Our model has 2 fuel gauges--1 electronic that estimates the number of miles remaining ("dte") and 1 standard fuel gauge (f----e). After filling the tank, both gauges had intermittent issues. A few fills later, both gauges indicate an empty tank. Everyone seems to experience this problem shortly after the 30,000 mile warranty has expired, forcing the consumer to spend ~$500 to fix the issue. Since it is clearly a faulty part, Nissan needs to recall this part or fix it for free when this specific issue is identified. My pregnant wife drives our Xterra daily and I do not feel safe allowing her to drive a car with absolutely no fuel gauge. However, I refuse to pay $500 for a part that was faulty from the start, as demonstrated by the thousands of posts we have found indicating error po463. Thank you for your attention to this widespread and potentially damaging issue.

50 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2009

Fuel sensor continually reads tank empty when tank is full. Service engine light comes on when engine gets to 1/4 tank. Told that this is a problem with most 2006 models and not covered by warranty.

51 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2009

Around 48,000 miles, my check engine light would come on and stay on for a few days. Then around 49,000 miles my gas hand would drop even if I had half a tank of gas in it. Now my check engine light stays on and won't go off. I've seen on the internet where others are having the same problem and wanted to document my problem as well.

52 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2009

53 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2009

Filled my 2006 Nissan Xterra full with gas and gas gauge did not register any fuel being put into tank. After 3 miles of driving the service engine soon light came on. After 40 miles of driving fuel gauge went to full but the light is still on. I have noticed that once I get below half a tank of fuel the needle on the gauge doesn't move until I have about 1/8th of the tank left. This has been going on since 45,000 miles and currently has 60,000 miles but this last fill-up was the first to have the service engine soon light.

54 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

I own a 2006 Nissan Xterra. At the beginning of this year, 2009, the fuel gauge would time-to-time stop working. When the fuel level reaches below 1/2 a tank, the gauge would automatically drop to empty. When this happens and the vehicle is fueled to a full level, the gauge would still not operate. It takes a few miles of driving before the fuel gauge will slowly begin to reach to the top. This would occur every time the fuel would reach below 1/2 tank. After this happens, its a guessing game on trying to figure out how much is in my tank. I have been stranded on the side of the road three times now. I was told by a Nissan dealership in another town, there was a recall for that part. When contacting a dealership near me, they disagreed and gave me a price to fix the problem.

55 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2009

Gas gauge acting irregular. Shows empty even after filling up the tank. Service engine light on. Took the vehicle to Nissan and the repair is about $450. 00 for the fuel gauge sensor. For a car with about 50,000 miles, it's an unexpected and unnecessary cost. Judging by the number of complaints, this item should warrant a recall.

56 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2009

Apparently this is a bigger problem than I thought. . . There def. Needs to be a recall!! today I went to the gas station to fill up, I was at about a 1/4 of a tank. After filling, got in the vehicle, turned it on, and saw that it was still saying I had a quarter of a tank. Anyways, I ignored it until a couple miles down the road the "service engine soon" light came on.

57 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2009

Name: [xxx]. Vehicle: Nissan Xterra, 2006, VIN [xxx]. Fuel tank level gauge was showing erratic reading and was replaced by the dealer with total charges of $377. 93 (including labor charges). I am not sure that this gauge is replaced by the modified float arm. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

58 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Fuel gauge does not read fuel level anymore. Spoke to dealer, was told it was the fuel tank sending unit (or sensor unit) that had gone bad. Apparently there was been a lot of this happening in Xterra's.

59 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2009

2006 Nissan Xterra off road, gas gauge stopped working just over 30,000 (warranty ran out), would fill gas tank and gauge would not reflect filling. Sometime needle would move to full for a while, then drop to empty without notice. No way to keep track of mileage. Have run out of gas 4 times.

60 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

Gas tank is lose causing a squeaking noise while going over any bumps in the road. Dealer states faulty fuel system and states if not replaced it will shut off at any given moment which could cause a serious accident. Many other users have reported same problem for 2006 Nissan Xterra's with a faulty fuel system. Nissan refuses to fix without slapping a $600 price tag on the repair.

61 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2009

At 49,000 miles my fuel gauge dropped to empty and my service engine light went on. It has been erratic ever since, mostly reading empty. I had a friend check out the engine light code and it said it was po462, po463 which is the fuel sending unit. I went on the internet and found a service bulletin out on this problem. The issue has never gone away and continues today. I never know how much fuel I have in my tank except I keep track on the odometer how far I have traveled. I have run out of gas a few times on the road not knowing I was about to run out of gas. I also discovered many other people have the same issue. Nissan wants over $700 to fix it. I thought the part was covered under the fuel California emission control warranty and was told no. I went back to a Nissan dealer as I have in the past to see if a recall has been issued and found out recently there was. But when the dealer checked my VIN number they said my Xterra was just out side the range of vins that were covered. The service bulletin says all-2005-2008 Xterras applied vins. I have an 2006. Why is mine excluded?? also I am not able to get my car smoged in my state with the engine light on. Currently the car has not been fixed.

62 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Fuel gauge does not register properly, causing vehicle to run out of gas without notice. Now after filling tank, low fuel level light comes on and service engine light is on.

63 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2009

Upon refilling fuel tank, gauge went to zero and service engine soon light came on.

64 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2008

In December 2008 after filling the fuel tank the fuel gauge indicated only 1/4 full. Approximately 4 hours later the same day after several on and off cycles the mil was illuminated. Gauge indication eventually returned to near full as the fuel was used. After dropping below 1/4 tank the gauge now drops to zero and the low fuel light is illuminated. Condition still exists in late February 2009. Have not have code read but research confirms that symptoms are identical other reports with failure confirmed as defective fuel level sensor.

65 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

I have an 2006 Nissan Xterra with 47,402 miles and I filled up and noticed my gas gage showed my tank completely empty!! of course my ses light came on. I went to the Nissan dealer this morning and they told me that I am out of my warranty and it will cost $500. 00-$600. 00 to fix. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. 66 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra and the fuel gauge isn't reading after we fill the tank up. The service engine soon light keeps appearing also. We have been doing some research to try to find out what the problem is and we discovered that is a very common problem in 05/06 models and the manufacturer isn't covering it.

67 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2008

I'm having a problem with my 2006 Xterra. I fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the light comes on, at about a half a tank of gas the needle moves to a full tank, . . My gas needle is not working. . . .

68 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

I filled up my 2006 Nissan Xterra with gas last night and now the gas gauge only goes up to 3/4 tank and the service engine light is on. The vehicle only has 24,000 miles on it and I have read that this is a common problem with several Nissan models dating back several years. I purchased my Nissan Xterra from niles in key west FL and have had zero problems with it until now.

69 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra. At about 55k miles the fuel gauge would read empty at anything under a 1/2 tank of fuel. My service engine soon light stays on constantly, and my tire pressure light stays on as well, even after I've just filled the tires to their required psi. Once I fill my tank, my fuel gauge won't automatically return to full, but will rise after I've been driving.

70 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2008

Gas sending unit is failing. Vehicle idles roughly, and service engine light is on. Gas gauge takes forever to show full tank after fill up. This vehicle is not covered under warranty and the dealer is charging $700 to fix it.
