Operates in reverse properly, parked my vehical. Turned engine off. Attempted to start the engine to get my vehical to level ground to check fluids, attempted to start the engine, engine now will not turn over at all.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Nissan x-terra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic, they determined that the transmission failed and needed it to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000. Bp.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

Radiator defect caused transmission failure.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Loss of power due to leak of the radiator to the transmission, follow by transmission failure. The vehicle runs in one gear and the dealer suggested changing the transmission for $4,000 are they crazy. . . . . . . . . . 2007 Nissan Xterra with low miles 89,000 one owner. I am never buying Nissan again.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

Lack of recall for the transmission failure. The transmission does shift from park to neutral to reverse and then drive but once in drive it stays in a lower gear like 1st. While driving on a city street all of the sudden I noticed that the vehicle was making a sound as if it were not shifting to a higher gear. I then noticed that the check engine light came on. We took the vehicle to a repair shop and they checked the engine code and they said it was a transmission issue and that we needed to take it to a transmission shop. We took it to a transmission shop and they said that the codes is for transmission failure. Repair cost will be about 5000.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Transmission failed while vehicle was moving. Research shows that transmission failure is due to a design flaw where engine coolant can leak into the transmission.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2017

Total transmission failure caused by a cracked radiator that allowed engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid. Cost to fix is more than the value of the vehicle. The defective radiator has no recall on it although the problem is well known to Nissan.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

While on a camping trip from California to nebraska to watch the eclipse, my Xterra suddenly and without any warning (no warning lights) lost power and came to a complete stop in an intersection near aliance, ne. We were driving the speed limit but could easily have been in an accident if this had been a more populated area. We were able to "coast" it off the highway into a parking area and arrange for a tow truck to pick us up. The nearest Nissan dealer is 500mi. Away in denver so had my vehicle towed to aaa recommended shop. They diagnosed transmission failure due to radiator crack and unit sending coolant into the transmission. My vehicle has less 98k mi. On it. ! estimated cost of repairs $3-8,000. 00. To complete repairs they would have to have parts sent from California, so they advised me junk the vehicle or tow back to California. Since I'm a senior living on fixed income I do not have funds to purchase another vehicle. So I had to rent a car ($800. 00) to get back to California and have the Xterra transported ($1,100. 00) back to be repaired. Think it is shameful that there was no notice from Nissan about this so consumers could take preventative measures. I have been a loyal customer, this is the second Nissan product I've owned, but now because Nissan is not standing behind its product, even after the repairs I will have a "worthless" vehicle that I have had to put thousands of dollars into. . So this will be my last purchase from this company.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2017

Transmission failure due to radiator leaking into transmission.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

Transmission failed without warning.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

Coolant contamination in the transmission causing engine failure and transmission failure. Also blows fuses and car will not start. Was sitting at a red light when it turned green and I accelerated the car would not go. When I got to a safe place to turn it off it would not turn back on. Upon further investigation I am one of many that have complained about this and Nissan has yet to recall this issue. I was lucky to be at a red light and not driving on the interstate. Also this is my 16 year olds car and thank goodness she wasn't driving it when it happened. The car was purchased less than a month. Ago with 133000 miles on it and was running great until today. This issue could be very dangerous and should be taken care of by the manufacturer.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

My vehicle was driving perfectly without any issues at all until one day on the way home I stopped at a stop sign near my home. Then as I started to proceed down the city street the check engine light and 4wd lights came on in the dash and the vehicle would barely move. I just barely got it into the driveway of my home. After I turned it off I attempted to restart the vehicle it would not even attempt to turn over. I checked online to see what would cause these symptoms to find that hundreds upon thousands of other Nissan owners have had the same happen to them. It is a known issue of cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission fluid due to a faulty design in the radiator. I had a mechanic check my engine as well and he confirmed that the grey sludge in the radiator and grit in my transmission fluid fit the symptoms of this issue. Now I am being told I have to pay over $5000. 00 to have repairs done because of a design flaw that Nissan refuses to take full responsibility for. I am lucky that this failure happened in my neighborhood versus the interstate or it could have not only left me with figuring out how to come up with $5000. 00 but how to pay for hundreds of thousands of dollars for repair bills to other cars I might have caused to wreck do to this catastrophic transmission failure.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Was having trouble with transmission on 07 Nissan Xterra. Found a lawsuit that had been settled with Nissan involving factory defects of the radiator oil cooler which leaks into transmission and destroys transmission. Took an oil sample from my vehicle to an independent company and was told that their was antifreeze in the oil. Took my vehicle and the oil sample into Nissan so that my transmission could be replaced. ($2500 cost to me per the Nissan lawsuit settlement) service department called back and tried to tell me that without dropping the transmission that they could tell that the antifreeze was not the cause of my failed transmission. After further discussion with the service manager who admitted that they couldn't tell what caused the failure of my transmission and that my oil sample proved that the factory defect was the most likely cause of my transmission failure, he then proceeded to explain that they had to follow Nissan procedure which was a visual inspection. My oil sample trumped their visual inspection but they still refused to fix my vehicle even under the laws of the Nissan settlement which was supposed to cover my vehicle. I first started having problems while driving, my Xterra almost doesn't even run now and is definitely not road safe any more yet Nissan still won't fix it.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2016

Complete transmission failure without warning. Going 70 miles per hour down interstate. . . During rush hr surrounded by 18 wheelers. . . Putting my wife's life in danger. . . . This is obviously a safety recall issue. . . . Thanks.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

Transmission began failing at highway speeds. Car would intermittently slow suddenly and begin shaking as if riding on a very rough road. Nissan dealer informed us this was a known defect wherein the radiator fluid and the automatic transmission fluid became cross contaminated, resulting in transmission failure. Although Nissan knew of this issue, they did not inform us to have our car inspected for this problem. Nissan currently covers this problem up to 8 years and 80,000 miles, but we are just outside this limit.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2015

I was driving on the interstate at 60mph when I attempted to speed up and switch lanes the truck suddenly lost power and shut off. I was almost rear ended three times lucky there was no one in the other lane so they went around I had no power steering or power brakes while trying to pay attention and not get hit I had to put the truck in neutral and try to start it back up the truck started and seemed to idle fine I put it back in drive and limped it to the side of the interstate whiteout getting hit luckily and called a tow truck and had it towed to a shop I had my wife and two small children in the truck thank god nothing happened. The shop told me that the transmission and radaitor fluid mixed causing my transmission to fail they told me that my radiator is crack and coolant mixed with the transmission fluid I didn't fix it yet I don't have the money I just paid it off and I'm trying to buy a house and now looking on line there are hundreds of cases of this and a lawsuit that was one but my truck has 150,000 miles on it all interstate mainly but I'm way out of the miles for warranty, so why isn't this a recall ? if this has happened so many times it is a safety issue I was was almost hit three times and I had to limp my truck to the side of the interstate were I could have been hit sitting still . I'm very upset over this Nissan wants 5k to fix it so I guess I will start saving my money hopefully this will be a recall soon.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2015

Transmission has coolant in it due to a Nissan known problem. Transmission line goes into bottom of radiator develops a crank inside and leaks coolant into the transmission resulting in transmission failure.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle experienced transmission failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the transmission and the radiator needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000. Updated 7/14/cn.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Was told by dealer that a known problem with radiator caused radiator fluid to seep into transmission causing transmission to fail. Neither dealer nor Nissan would accept responsibility for this known defect.

20 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

While driving at a highway speed of 70 mph in the left lane of an interstate, the transmission completely failed. There was traffic in the right lane. I was unable to move to the outside shoulder until I was traveling at 30 mph. This was very dangerous, especially due to trying to merge between semis that were in the right lane. After towing the vehicle 75 miles to get close to home and at a trusted repair shop, I was told that the coolant leaked into the transmission system (like so many others). This caused the complete failure of the transmission and contamination of all of the lines and gaskets. The vehicle would not travel forward or backward. This appears to be a known issue, based on the large number of complaints on the web and the class action lawsuit. The repairs are estimated at 5,000 to 5,500 dollars, plus the towing. Most of the problems, including mine, occur after the extended period. Due to the rapid failure, this is an extremely unsafe condition.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

Engine coolant and transmission fluid mixing causing overheating and transmission failures.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

I pulled on to the interstate on which the speed limit was 65 mph, and my Xterra would not shift past second gear or go above 35 mph. Cars were flying by me and those entering interstate behind me were unable to get around me due to the high volume of vehicles on the interstate passing us. I turned on my flashers and limped it to the next exit to get off the interstate. The transmission failed due to coolant being leaked into it. This issue has been investigated and a class action lawsuit settled. However, it was only up to $100,000 miles and I can no longer be part of that lawsuit. I never received notification of an issue with my make and model vehicle. This issue is continuing to happen to other Xterra owners and putting others at risk. Nissan knows about the problem but refuses to take any action to correct it. In fact, according to my mechanic, the valve needed to correct the problem is on back order with Nissan due to the high volume needed for repairs. Apparently, they cannot keep up with production of them.

23 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

Transmission failure in my 07 Nissan Xterra. A complete loss of motive power and needed to be towed. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. Was told that this is a huge problem with these vehicles and the Nissan corporation is well aware of this problem.

24 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra with a common issue. . . The faulty radiator leaks into the transmission causing transmission failure. This can cause the transmission to seize up leaving a moving car to lose speed rapidly which is an unsafe situation. This has not happened to me yet as I caught the issue and am fighting with Nissan for them to fix defect. . Until then I am stuck with this as my car. Great. Nissan has asked me to pay a $3k "CO-pay" to share in fixing the fault. . .

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

Radiator and transmission repaired after failure caused by defective radiator allowing fluids to mix between coolant and transmission. Repairs were performed by dealer. Radiator and transmission failed again. The way the warranty is priced, I am paying the full cost of repair. Although I was able to identify the problem without risk, when the transmission fails it is catastrophic failure which could cause an accident.

26 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

Transmission failure due to engine coolant from leaking coiling system.

27 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

Driving at 65 mph and felt a clunk and a surge - check engine light came on and the car felt like it had been shifted into neutral. I pulled off the highway and had it towed to a repair shop. Turns out that the transmission failed due to a known radiator defect that allows coolant to leak into the transmission, causing failure. Nissan will not cover my car because I am beyond the specified mileage of their useless warranty extension, agreed to in a class action lawsuit. Repairs and rental car will cost me about $8,000. Nissan should have been forced to recall the cars for this defect and should reimburse the repair costs at 100%.

28 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2013

I do not have an incident to report-but feel someone else needs to know the potential for one. I just read the class action settlement against Nissan and the outcome. I am appalled that Nissan does not think that the transmission going out is not a safety issue and now find out my Nissan is one of those vehicles that has coolant in the transmission. This is going to cost 2500. 00 as the mileage is over 80000 now. And this is the car I entrusted my 17 year old to drive. I will have to take it off the road and decide whether or not to fix it and trade or take a huge loss and trade it at the dealer but don't want another Nissan. Shouldn't something be done to protect us from this? I can only hope by writing that this will help me and others in some way to force Nissan to say they used a faulty radiator that leaked and could potentially cause transmission failure and in turn an accident. I will be using all tools available to get this resolved-I cannot believe that my family and I are being cheated and it looks all legal according to what I read. Not sure how that happened. . . The consumer did not win anything but a large bill that most middle class people cannot afford. Thank-you for taking an interest.

29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

Xterra would not crank. Towed to landers mclarty Nissan. Received call this morning from Nissan service tech indicating that there is a radiator and transmission issue resulting in coolant mixing with the transmission fluid causing transmission failure. Repair will cost $7500. 00.

30 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2012

I've noticed that Nissan has been under investigation for receiving a number of complaints from consumers in regards to sudden, catastrophic transmission failures in 2005-2010 Nissan pathfinder, frontier and Xterra's. Well I am writing to tell you that my 2007 Nissan Xterra has fallen victim to this. It has been diagnosed with the problem of the transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. I had no warning signs leading up to or just prior to the failures. What is Nissan going to do about this???? recall ??.

31 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2011

I purchased a 2007 Xterra at the beginning of the year with just over 80,000. I have the problem where the radiator and transmission failed simultaneously. I am currently paying a $292. 00 note on a car that will not move. I felt comforted in the fact that I purchased the extended warranty with coverage for 100,000 miles or 6 years after the purchase. The factory warranty will not cover the cost to repair the radiator. Even though I have warranty coverage for transmission, the same dealership that sold me the expensive extended warranty and overcharged for the car is trying to charge $7700 for the job with new parts or $5500 to do the job with used parts. I know now that the job would have to utilize a new radiator because the original radiators are causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. I see reports that Nissan is starting to recognize the fact that they have faulty radiators but is not holding themselves liable for any of the damages to any of the parts of the car even though most it is under warranty (even though everyone's radiator should have a factory recall by now). There is even a new york times article about the radiator/transmission problem with multiple Nissan models. It is written in the contract that if the radiator causes the problem, then the transmission damages will not be covered. Also the radiator, which seems to be the part causing all of the problems, is not even covered at all in the warranty nor is it under a factory recall. I purchased a certified pre-owned car with a warranty because I did not want to have a car that would give me further financial troubles in costly repairs. Nissan is aware of this problem, but does not take any responsibility because of how much it would cost to repair radiators and/or transmissions for everyone that owns an Xterra, frontier or pathfinder.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2011

2007 Nissan Xterra radiator failed and about a month later the transmission failed due to antifreeze in the transmission. The Nissan Xterra was slipping on the highway causing the vehicle to slow as traffic was approaching on all sides. The vehicle lost forward drive control.
