3 Equipment problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/12/2022

A leak developed in the radiator that allowed engine coolant into the automatic transmission and visa versa. Engine coolant in the automatic transmission can cause sudden failure of the transmission which could cause an accident. This is a known design flaw of Nissan transmissions. Nissan has refused to issue a recall and class actions have been successful, but are not extensive enough to cover all Nissan buyers. I have filed a complaint with Nissan and they offered zero help in covering repairs. They just say that it is out of warranty. I had my Xterra worked on at the dealer 18 months ago and they could have recommended a new part be installed to keep the transmission failure from occuring, but said nothing. The result is that now I have to replace the transmission and radiator at a $9,000. 00 price tag out of my pocket because they refused to recall the parts (<$1000. 00) involved and will not give owners any warning or guidance on how to prevent this totally preventable catastrophic transmission failure. Nissan case # 46218952.

4 Equipment problem of the 2015 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/25/2022

The following is an email that I had sent to csx risk management describing what happened with my vehicle on Friday, 2. 25. 2022. I suspect that a defective leaf spring could have contributed to my accident. This is the passenger side leaf spring. I say this because I had to replace the same leaf spring on a 2011 Nissan Xterra pro-4x before. I now have a 2015. -- I went over the csx railroad tracks on three oaks road (northbound, just before old m-11) in sawyer last night -- approximately 9:13pm est. Upon going over the bumpy tracks, it caused my passenger rear wheel to be pushed back into wheel well. The tire was rubbing on the wheel well and it smelled like burning rubber. I'd stopped right away and saw white smoke from the tires. It's looks like the bumpy tracks caused the leaf spring to be damaged or out of place. I can't tell if there are any other damages. My car had to be towed, as it was not drivable. Chikaming township police assisted. The police officer, sargeant brandon jones, and tow truck driver said that the bumpy tracks have been in need of repairs for maybe seven years! why has the tracks not been repaired in such a long time?!! I wasn't the first casualty, and won't be the last. A police report was made. I have an incident # that I have attached to this email. And, a few pictures. More photos of the track will be included in the police report, as sargeant brandon jones went to look at the tracks to investigate. My car was towed to my home in benton harbor, michigan -- as there are no shops to take it to oven the weekend. It will then be towed again to a shop next week. I am officially putting in a claim for property damage to my vehicle.

5 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

On the invoice/receipt the part of automobile is plenium seal ck wp. The remarks/labor description on invoice indicates repairing vacuum hose at read of throttle. My car simply stalled while driving on a main busy street. Fortunately, it was on a holiday (Feb 21, 2022) and there were no school crossings on this day!. I was shaken up, anxious. There was a nearby (with in a quarter mile or so) an independent auto repair/service shop and I was able to have them fix the issue. I feel this is a safety issue, as this could have been worse, and stalled while driving on the freeway. I will be writing to the manufacturer to inform them what has happened. There were no other warning signs prior to the vehicle stalling while driving.

9 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

There was a safety recall for radiators in Nissan Xterras in 2019 , I was never informed about this recall or service bulletins even though Nissan knows I own the vehicle in their database also there is an electrical problem with the ipdm box which is defective according to the Nissan pages on facebook and other sites, where the white ipdm box is defective and causes power loss and lights not working along with car stalling while driving, it is apparently a defect and the cost to replace it is over I was never notified of the Xterra transmission cooler defect or recall back in 2019, ive owned this Xterra since 2008 and its been to the dealer for another previous recall, also there is a problem with the white ipdm box, (fuse box) which should be investigated, per the Nissan owners facebook page, and other blogs the ipdm causes stalling and shutdowns of all functions in the 2005-2014 Nissans, consumers are having to pay upwards of $600 to the dealership for these defective ipdm boxes, there is a known defect which was recalled years ago about a relay for that box, I believe my Xterra relay was fixed, but I am having a problem with the vdc/ slip light coming on and my headlights go on and off while driving at night. According to the websites it has to do with the white ipdm box underneath where the wires are harnessed, this needs to be adressed it is a safety hazzard while driving on the highway or in town because the vehicle is totally disabled and will cause injury/death ive been reading Nissan pages to find out why my lights are going on and off, ive repalced the camshaft and crankshaft pos sensors, Nissans previous recall for a diode apparantly this didnt fix it, it just masked the situation, read up on newx. Org about this problem.

Vehicle has stalled multiple times, both in motion and parked. There were no warning signals, strange noises, or other indicators to point to the issue. Additionally, when trying to use the obd port to diagnose the issue, the obd port will not read and only gives an error.

14 Equipment problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

I was entering the 101 from broadway road in mesa. There was a car 2 seconds behind me. I was changing lanes going to the left and the car aggressively accelerated with the intent to pass me and nearly hit me. I had to swerve back to my original lane. I then changed lanes and was trying to change lanes going left and the same car attempted to aggressively pass me after I had already began changing lanes. I had to swerve to the right again to avoid an accident. I let this Mazda car pass and then changed lanes going left. At that point the car abruptly slowed down from going 75 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour. This nearly caused another accident as it was obvious the car was trying to annoy and frustrate me for no reason. He continued this speed for about half a mile before changing lanes. He nearly caused 4 separate accidents with his aggressive driving.

16 Equipment problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

According to your recalls and my VIN# my new used vehicle has not been maintenance for the recall. There is distinct play in the steering and the vehicle is bouncy. I need to know where to take my Xterra to have it fixed ASAP if possible. Recall campaign numbers are 10e019000 & 10v208000.

17 Equipment problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

While driving, the vehicle surges and sputters and rpms skyrocket and the vehicle loses power and shuts down. This happens at various speeds on interstate highway, town streets and county roads. The vehicle will also lose power and shut down while idling at a stop sign or traffic light. There is no way to steer or restart when this happens and I have depended on hazard flashers to warn other drivers of disabled vehicle until I can get assistance to get vehicle off of highway. After 20 minutes of being dead, vehicle will sometimes restart and go a few more miles before same thing happens again. After 3 weeks at a dealership and a cost so far of $3,000, the problem has not been pinpointed and fixed. Dealership has contacted Nissan customer service who has two open cases of the same issue with the same model vehicle. I have found numerous other complaints in online forums of the same issue same model and still no fix found for the issue. I have now opened my own case with Nissan north America customer care and am awaiting further investigation from them. Major safety hazard.

18 Equipment problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

In 2019 got an incident with my Nissan Xterra's transmission. Something failed in the transmission that when I was driving it all of the sudden started to slowdown so I park and it got towed and took it to the mechanic. They charged me 2000 to fix it. And since then the engine light comes on. So after months I took it to a mechanic again and the guy said the radiation is sending water into the transmission that's why the transmission was failing.

19 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

Radiator leaked water into the transmission got my transmission burnt. . The power was idle almost causing an accident on my way home. I had to tow my car home . This is a common problem with Nissan Xterra. .

20 Equipment problem of the 2014 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

My truck has a suspension issue for squeaky noises coming from the front wheel. There was a recall on them but my VIN number isn't included. The truck is sitting down at the local Nissan dealer now to have both fixed. How can this stuff that was previously recalled and now applies to my truck be excluded from recall repairs the tire pressure monitoring system also had 4 bad sensors. It is there now to be fixed. Again my VIN number was excluded for exactly what the recall is for.

21 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

Leaking coolant is mixing with transmission fluid through the cooler lines to create a toxic hell stew that irreversibly damages everything around it.

22 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/21/2018

Coolant from my radiator got into my transmission and damages my transmission and transmission computer in 2015 and I had to have it replaced. Earlier this year 20q8, my transmission went out again with what seems to be the same exact problem. I can't afford to replace the transmission again so I'm stuck now.

23 Equipment problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/20/2018

Got into my car one day and upon trying to crank it , when turning the key it hesitated to crank and finally did so. When I reached my destination, when I left my car would just not crank. No clicks. Lights work fine. Nothing is wrong with security, battery. Just replaced the starter around oct of last year.

24 Equipment problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/20/2017

Less than 45,000 miles on the vehicle, no engine lights were on and no other issues prior to the incident. Traveling on i75 at about 65mph when the vehicle suddenly and rapidly slows down and almost caused an accident. Got to the side of the road and tried to accelerate, the vehicle would only go about 25-30mph so I had it towed home. I later had it towed to the dealer and paid for a diagnosis, the service tech said an aftermarket mass airflow sensor caused the all the catalytic converters to go bad and they wanted $3,500 to replace the catalytic converters and exhaust manifolds before they would continue diagnosing the vehicle. I called my sae certified mechanic and had it towed to him. He said the mass airflow sensor was the factory sensor that came on the car, and shouldn't have caused a failure in the catalytic converters especially without a check engine light. He said that Nissan has had problems with catalytic converters going bad and causing engine failure, so upon further inspection the engine has damage to the cylinders and valves and will need replaced or at least overhauled. I don't believe I should have to pay for an engine and catalytic converters that could have been replaced with a recall and prevented the entire issue. Nissan has an internal bulletin about the catalytic converter failures and engine damage proving they had prior knowledge of the issues including issues with the timing chains that fail which is another issue with this engine that I haven't come across yet.

25 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/08/2017

I was driving from pennsylvania to suffern NY and when I took the exit to suffern the car lost power with preview sign that was going to happen. When I try to get to a shop to check it out it was smoking and I saw liquid under. The car will start but cannot move anymore or move slowly. I have to leave it in someone's house.

27 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/19/2017

While driving on highway, transmission failed. No warning indications, just failed. The engine revved up but the vehicle would not go above 30 mph. Transmission failed, the radiator was bad. So like all other Nissan owners, I'm out $3700 for the transmission rebuild to include a new radiator and another $300 to rent a car so I can get to work. Nissan you are very irresponsible and should be reimburse your customers, I tend on spreading the word to all to avoid Nissan because of their lack of customer support on this safety issue.

28 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

Car randomly will shut off.

29 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/12/2017

Mixing of radiator coolant with transmission fluid because of radiator problems.

30 Equipment problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

I purchased my 2008 Nissan Xterra about 3 years ago and did not know about all the defects the transmission and radiator had. I am highly disappointed with this Nissan. It left me stalled in the middle of the road just suddenly with no warning. Worst part was that it was in the middle of the night with a party of 5. The conditions were unsafe and had to wait for daylight to be able to be towed. Its is very unfortunate that I can not do anything about this bad vehicle and it will cost me close to 4k to have my vehicle repaired. At this point im just still in debt since I have not finished paying this off and car less. Its very unfortunate that Nissan will not take any responsibility for the horrible and unstable vehicle they created.

31 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

Nissan dealer told me that the radiator fluids started to leak into the transmission and now the transmission needs to be replaced and it will cost $8000 dollars to fix.

32 Equipment problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

I'm having transmission problems due to the known design flaw in the 2008 Xterra radiators that causes coolant to mix with transmission fluid. Nissan admitted the flaw and yet the NHTSA, who is supposed to help protect us, has concluded that Nissan isn't liable for these problems. What protection does a consumer have besides trying to take a multi-national company to court if the government body who looks into this won't act? please revisit this "radiator intermix" problem!.

33 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/05/2017

Takata recall timing chain replacement at 70,000 miles.

34 Equipment problem of the 2010 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

When outside temperature falls below 40 degrees Xterra will not start. Vehicle is stationary and not parked in a garage. Battery was replaced 11 months ago trying to fix the same problem. No other major issues with vehicle ever. Vehicle just towed yesterday dealer will not be able to diagnose until Monday.

35 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

While driving, the car started not to shift well when changing gears. I've noticed on the highway and on the city roads. I took it to the dealer within that week and they said it was my transmission and that it will cost over $3000 to fix. When I purchased the car 2 years ago, I also purchased a bumper to bumper warranty that included the transmission. I did not have the paperwork with me so I had to go home to look for it. Once I found it, I called and sent the copy directly to the dealer. They called me the following day saying my warranty covers everything except intermix ingrid which was exactly what it was. I spent extra money to make sure if anything happens to my car I could get it fixed with the warranty. They told me they couldn't do anything and to fix it I must pay the $3000. I had my car for 2 years and it only has 75,000 mikes and now my transmission goes out? I researched what intermix ingrid is and found out I'm not the only one with this problem??! Nissan isn't taking responsibility and instead charging us all $3000+ to get the problem that everyone is having fixed. There should be a recall or the warranty should cover this problem. Nissan should not be making a profit on an issue they are aware and not trying to notify people about.
