My wife's 05 Nissan Xterra started having problems when driving with shuttering, and rumble strip noises. Started noticing the heater would not blow hot when stationary. Took to transmission shop and my worst fear came true. Water in transmission I been hearing about. To top it off had rear end replaced six months ago cause the owner guaranteed me that was where the shuddering was coming from. That was a 2000 dollar repair. Needless to say it was not the damn rear end. Will never ever buy Nissan again! they know all about this huge problem. People are hurting from this mess!the latest repair shop won't 4600 hundred for replacement of transmission &a radiator. Do not know what to do because u hear and read the about the engine could be corroded. Of course Nissan doing nora!.

The vehicle has 109,000 miles. Has started terrible vibation at between 40 - 60 mph and worse on acceleration. Have read complaints on antifreeze leaking into transmission causing this problem. Three years ago I was driving in winter and heater was not working. Went to mechanic and there was no atifreeze and no visible leak. Am a widow of 2 1/2 years and this is my main vehicle.
I noticed my coolant level was low, but no leaks. I took it in and had it checked. The man put a new cap on the radiator, said he pressure tested it and could find no leaks. A few days later, on my way home from work, it barely made it home. After I parked I tried to start it and it wouldn't. My husband researched it and read about radiator coolant in the transmission and sure enough that's what happened. The repairs come out to be more than the vehicle is worth. I feel so ripped off. That was the first expensive vehicle I'd ever purchased. I only had it for 3 years and had just paid off the $18,000. Now I have nothing. Complete devastation since I live paycheck to paycheck. I feel like I just tossed thousands of dollars out the window. My Nissan has 119,000 miles. I always maintained it and thought it would last at least 100,000 more.
Radiator leaked coolant into the transmission . My truck is now sitting at aamco with 5200 dollars worth of transmission radiator and computer board damage.

Antifreeze leaked into transmission causing irreparable damage to transmission and radiator replacement.
I purchased an Nissan Xterra 2007 SUV in 2008. Can has been well maintain. I recently took trip and in my way back car started to feel and sound weird. I just felt different. I went to Nissan to check it. I thought it was the breaks or something else. But I was informed that Xterra had an extended guarantee on the transmission because the coolant was leaking in to the transmission . It will cost me 2,500-3,000 to fix. I was never notified or warned of this defect. Why ???? I have to pay this. I even purchased an insurance up to 60,000miles car is only 76,351. Very very unfair.
I bought my Xterra in sept. 2014 and just this last month. Not even putting 20,000 miles on it and still have a loan on it had to put 4700 into it because of the radiator fluid running into the transmission. It was fine one day and the next day I was going 40 miles an hour and it starts jerking on me and wouldn't go over 20 miles an hour. I could have gotten in a accident with all the traffic. I don't understand why there was not a recall on this. What I have read from other people this has happened a lot. Don't you think Nissan would stand behind their product and fix their mistakes!.
Coolant leaked over into transmission. This seems to be a big issue with these vehicles. Now need new transmission and radiator. Yes there was a slight settlement years ago but no recall. . . This should be a recall. I have no money to fix and now cant even get to work to even try to make money to pay for it.
I was driving Nissan Xterra on the busy street and suddenly I notice smoke coming from under the hood. I stopped the car on the closest parking lot and tried to go away from the car. I was scared it will blow up. After few minutes the smoke stopped coming from under the hood. I called towing and my mechanic told me it is transmission problem. It was truly horrible experience.
Tried to start car and jumped car with no success. Had to be towed to dealership. Dealership stated that the transmission fluids and radiator fluids had combined and corrupted the computer that starts the car.
Timing chain failure at 76000 miles. Needs to be replaced at cost of $1200.
Cross contamination of radiator and transmission fluids due to faulty design. Vehicle has 102k miles on it and can't be driven. We purchased the vehicle used with 86k miles and were never informed of any recall or lawsuit. This is the second transmission problem I have had with a Nissan I lost thousand trading in a almost new Nissan ultima 2007 previously due to constant transmission problems now this transmission has seized up and the radiator is full of gunk. This should be a full recall and repair on the part of Nissan they know their design caused the problem. We still owe $$$ on this car and will ruin our credit by turning it in and cannot afford the $6k cost to repair this. The deal they did still left the consumer holding the bag for their bad design.
Our 2007 Nissan Xterra had a leak in the radiator, that cost $500 to fix, but it leaked radiator fluid into the transmission which is going to cost $3,500 to $5,000 to fix.
Transmission faliure due to a known problem of the oil cooler leaking into the transmission. I should not have to pay $3300. When they know it is a problem!.
Transmission has been slipping . I heard of a recall on this problem and I called Nissan and was told I missed extended warranty buy 8 days ,they admitted that they did have problems with this vehicles transmission. But refuse to do anything about it, also very hard to put gas in,.
Transmission was slipping and clunking during mid-range gears while accelerating. Repaired at rapid transmissions at 3905 convoy street, san diego, CA 92111. Radiator was leaking coolant into transmission cooler contaminating transmission fluid with coolant damaging the valve body, electronics and friction materials. Had to replace valve body and friction materials and reman torque converter and bypass radiator for transmission cooling. Cost out of pocket: $3564. 73 (detailed receipt available).

Driving down freeway, vehicle started to shudder/vibrate, check engine light comes on, can's accelerate, smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. Pulled the vehicle off the highway. Take it to a mechanic, where he diagnoses the problem as transmission/radiator coolant issues. Hose broke and the fluid from the radiator/transmission mixed causing transmission to stop working. Take to Nissan dealer, told $6000. 00 to fix. I have an extended warranty since I purchased vehicle used (Ford warranty). Told Ford will not cover anything, since the "transmission" wasn't really the problem. It was the coolant lines to the transmission that caused the problem. Just Ford (big business) trying to find a way around paying for something. I paid for the warranty, and the warranty is basically useless. Was told by the dealership where I purchased the vehicle liberty Ford, maple hts. , ohio that it would cover transmission issues. What a scam. I will never purchase another Nissan vehicle nor will I ever purchase an extended warranty. Frustrated Nissan owner in ohio.
After shifting into reverse, with one foot on the clutch, and one foot on the brake still, my Xterra begins accelerating in reverse though my feet were on the clutch and brake only. My Xterra's brakes only stopped my vehicle after shifting into neutral and then turning off the engine.

Transmission failed from radiator leak. Nissan didn't notify us. Called corporate on different occasions over the last couple years and we keep getting a run around. We've been told the vehicle has to many miles or to old. I asked to speak with manger and was told there decision has been made. Each time the managers were always busy. They vehicle shut down in the middle of traffic on a busy highway.
On Sunday, August 30, 2015, while driving from maryland to virginia, on a speed limit of 55, vehicle slowed down and transmission wont engaged while accelerating the gas pedal, rpm was going to the higher number/red zone and car will not move faster up to the noted speed limit. When we stop at the light, and the lights turn green, the vehicle will not move and make loud noise and rpm going higher to the red zone numbers. This caused traffic behind us back up because of speed too slow in a 55-mile per hour speed. I was afraid it could have caused an accident. This happened several times during a 200-mile travel from maryland to virginia. I read that there were several complaints about Nissan vehicles about radirator water leaks to the transmission and causing it to malfunction. According the price transmission experts, this is the same problem and the cost to repair will cost $4,400. 00 I would like to have Nissan pay the repair cost.
While driving the vehicle stalled. It turned out to be the radiator leaking coolant into the transmission and fried the transmission. This is apparently a common problem in Nissans. When taken to the local mechanic he said it would cost $5000 plus to fix this problem.
My son was driving the car on a local road near home at night. He was accelerating up a small grade, when he said the car acted as if it had popped out of gear. It began to rev higher and made a higher pitched sound. He tried changing from being in "drive" to a lower gear, but it still did not engage the transmission. He had enough momentum to be able to coast onto our side street and park the car. Luckily there was no accident, but he was almost rear-ended as his car slowed suddenly and traffic ran up on him. The car would not start, nor turn over at that point. I had the car towed to the local Nissan dealer. They mentioned it was a known issue with the transmission and radiator and it would cost over 5k for just a new transmission, not including a new radiator or labor to install both. I was able to find another mechanic that purchased a rebuilt transmission, but the whole thing still cost over 5k to have the rebuilt transmission and radiator installed with no assurance that it would not happen again. This is a well documented issue with these vehicles and continues to cost people thousands of dollars for a very poor and dangerous design.
My coolant system has leaked into my transmission system causing malfunction of both. This causes my car to hesitate when accelerating and will eventually cause the transmission to give out completely while in motion. This appears to be a common problem that Nissan is aware of and has not adequately addressed.
Radiator fluid in the transmission and transmission fluid in the radiator. Caused transmission to fail. Need to replace both now because of a mechanical defect in adf line.
On 7/10/15 my husband was checking the radiator and found transmission fluid in it. I immediately called pine belt Nissan of toms river NJ were we purchased this vechicle and 2 others the service department said we would need a transmission and it would be $7,000. It was no longer under warranty it was warrantied to 100,000 when I questioned it because we were 2,000 miles over I was told well the warranty was only to 100,000 when my VIN # was checked. So we checked around for a transmission shop and decided to have it fixed at american transmission in lakewood NJ. He had told us to contact Nissan because there is a problem with the design of the radiator that is bad and causing the transmission problem. We ended up spending $5,069. 23 to have it fixed $2000 less than Nissan had quoted. We had it fixed right away because we did not know if this probem would also ruin the engine. I already wrote to Nissan about this problem for a refund and waiting for a response. I had told them we were a loyal customer of Nissan owning 8 of their vehicles.
Driving at 65 miles per hour when my car began to act like the gear was slipping. Then it began to slow down from 40 miles per hour and no matter how hard I pushed on the gas petal, it would not speed up. Then it just would not move after that. Had to call a tow truck to move my car from the road and take it to a transmission specialist who said that the radiator had gone bad and leaked into the transmission.
Noticed a strawberry colored fluid coming from the radiator overflow reservoir. Checked the radiator and found that the whole cooling system had the same color of fluid. I took my Xterra to a radiator shop and had the cooling system flushed and antifreeze replaced. I was told that what happened was that the transmission cooler had failed and that antifreeze and transmission fluid mixed together and went through the cooling system and transmission. I first got the radiator replaced and cooling system flushed again. I had been hearing a suspicious noise from the transmission and noticed that transmission was starting to slip. All this in williston, nd which was 620 miles from my home. I had to take the train home. We had to rent a car for my wife to use so I could use her Nissan armada to go back to williston and tow it back home. I also had to rent an auto transport trailer. My car is now in the shop getting the transmission rebuilt. I have been told by my mechanic and read several complaints online that the only solution for the transmission is to get it rebuilt or replaced, which can take up to $6000, depending on where you go. This is an ongoing problem and Nissan needs to be held responsible. From what I can see online there has been at least 300 complaints filed, and I am sure there has been other issues that haven't been reported. I also have found that there was a class action lawsuit filed and there was warranty extension granted up to 100,00 miles. I am sure that the NHTSA is also aware that 90% of the complaints are from car owners that have over 100,000 miles on there odometer. I am also sure that Nissan is also aware of this and know that this is a manufacturers defect and are doing what ever is possible to avoid fixing and replacing 100's of transmissions. I am hoping that this matter can be dealt with swiftly and once and for all.
I was driving on the innerloop of the beltway 495 from falls church va, to chevy chase MD after work around 330pm. I was on the middle lane on the american legion bridge when all of a sudden my truck lost power and I had no control or was able to accelerate. The rpm's were moving but the truck barely moved. I put my hazards on and slowly moved to the right shoulder where other cars could have hit me. Nissan's failure to recognize the seriousness of this faulty radiator that has affected the transmissions of both the Xterra's, pathfinders, and frontiers is unacceptable. I was told that since I am over 100,000 and that I am not covered under this warranty for Nissan's issue. I want to make sure you are aware that this could possible lead to a more serious accident with these transmission issues.
Driving at 40 miles per hour when my car began to act like the gear was slipping.
Confirmed diagnoses of vehicle damage of radiator assembly & transmission are due to Nissan's defective radiator assembly which allows coolant to pass through into the transmission rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. Nissan is unwilling to assist with the repairs of damage caused by defect. I was not notified of this manufacturing defect. This is a safety issue, a damaged transmission due to coolant entering it has rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive, a known defect, yet the manufacturer will not even compromise to assist with repair of this defect. A manufacturer should assist with repair of any defect that renders the equipment unsafe to operate - no matter when that defect decides to show up! Nissan should assist in all repairs due to their known defect to let the consumer operate the vehicle in safety.
On December 17, 2012, 2007 Xterra with 63,200 miles was taken to Nissan dealer in oregon. The complaint: “at 50-55 mph the transmission skips and catches like a bump on smooth surface. ” also asked that dealer check whine from the engine compartment. Service dept recommended “no repairs for radiator/transmission at this time just recommend routine service of transmission fluid as per 60,000 interval… fluids not contaminated. ” engine whine was diagnosed as timing chain issue. Secondary timing chains and tensioners were replaced. Total cost: $1,185. 81. Service personnel said hang on to receipt, Nissan may issue recall on chronic timing chain problem. On may 12, 2015 same vehicle with 88,500 miles, was taken to Nissan dealer in tennessee. Complaint: at speeds between 40-45 mph vehicle vibrates as shifts gears. Also, gas tank fuel-level sensor not functioning. Service dept. Replaced gas tank sensor and diagnosed vibration as insulating shield on driveshaft that had broken loose. Radiator also replaced as preemptive way to avoid Nissan Xterra’s ticking bomb of catastrophic transmission failure. Vehicle picked up after repair and vibration when transmission shifting resumed within half mile of dealership. Returned vehicle to dealer. Diagnosis: must not have been driveshaft problem, must be the transmission is already gone. One week later picked up vehicle with new transmission. Was told transmission fluid looked like chocolate milk – contaminated by failed original radiator. Total bill: $3,178. 99 including a $2,500 copay under “warranty extension” to address chronic defective radiator causing transmission failure.
I just purchased this car about 3 months ago and paid 4000 dollars for it. The vehicle stopped working and the fuel pump wasn't coming on. After searching for the power issue I discovered the fuel tank sending unit which is the top to the gas tank itself. Meaning the service hole of the tank access is the top part of the sending unit. The sending unit has 4 fuel line connections and 4 electrical connections. Two fuel conections and 2 electrical connections plug into the top side of the sending unit and they route through the plastic molded sending unit and connections are made in the bottom side. Basically fuel and electricity route through this unit into the tank. The power wire to the fuel pump burned and melted the conection inside the mold and burned the plastic all around the connection plug where the power goes to the gas tank. From what I understand the 00' and 02' sending units were recalled but not my 01'. This is the equivalent to riding down the road with a ticking time bomb under my children's seats. I have contacted Nissan but I have gotten nowhere with them so I am reaching out to the transportation saftey authorities.

Transmission issue! being told it's from coolant leaking into transmission.
My car oveheated and began to buck -- mechanic stated transmission and radiator have failed - I still owe 1 year on this car and Nissan wont fix it - can you help in any way published on Apr 18, 2013 video of what happens to the radiator/transmission fluid when the transmission fluid radiator fails and a cross connection happens between the two fluids that don't belong together. Nissan settled a class action lawsuit in January of 2013, but this doesn't mean that you still can't file a complaint with the national transportation safety administration. If you have experienced this problem or no someone that has, file the complaint. Also call the state attorney general and the federal trade commission and file a complaint against Nissan. We bought the car used, but there is no way to check for this problem. If we had known the problem existed, I assure you we would not have purchased the vehicle. If I knew there was a potential problem after we purchased the vehicle, we could have replaced the transmission coolant radiator with the safer replacement type to prevent this from happening. I think it should have been the federal government's responsibility to notify the public of the problem and they should force Nissan to address the issue. They made Toyota step up with recalls and Toyota did to my recollection. Should have purchased a Toyota.
