Front Air Bag Problems of Nissan Xterra

Front passenger air bag activation light is intermittently signally off when passenger is seated. Usually occurs on restart during long distance trips. Nissan repair can not duplicate. Customer service is purposely time consuming, plays dumb and generally rude. This failure occurs on 30% of our long trips. This is a safety issue, my Nissan is not meeting minimum safety regulations a large part of the time. This also happened in a Nissan rental provided recently. Nissan employees try to instruct customers on how to sit during discussions. . . . . Truly frustrating. . .

My husband and I own a 2007 Nissan Xterra for about 4 months. About a month ago when I would sit in the front passenger seat the light indicating the airbag was deactivated would turn on. I am 5' 3" and weight 115 lbs. We took it to a ken garff Nissan in salt lake city. They did an airbag systems check on the car and said it was working fine. When I called Nissan manufacturing to see what the weight limit was set at for the computer to decide if it was a child or not, they could not give me an answer. The lady said she (or the technical person she contacted) did not know the weight. I find it hard to believe that Nissan would say a child weights 115 lbs. I know something has to be wrong in the system especially since the car did not do this when we first got it.

I was traveling at approximately 35 mph when a vehicle pulled out of a business parking lot, the vehicle failed to yield, causing me to collide with her driver door. My concern is that my airbag in my 2001 Nissan Xterra failed to deploy causing me to hit the steering wheel with my chest. I contacted Nissan and the results were that I failed to properly decelerate; this was the cause for the failure.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the remedy referenced in NHTSA campaign id number 08v690000 (air bags:frontal) was insufficient in providing a remedy to the proper population of vehicles, which were manufactured during the listed production dates. The remedy referenced in the recall would only be provided to vehicles originally sold or registered in the salt belt states. However, many consumers reside in non-salt belt states, but frequently travel in salt belt states. As a consequence, the non-salt belt state vehicle owners would incur the same failures, but would be denied a fair remedy. The safety risk would also be increased. In addition, there are other elements with similar properties as salt, which would cause an identical failure. There had been no failure to date. The manufacturer would not assist. The current mileage was not applicable.

I had a head on collision in the 2006 Nissan Xterra. While driving approximately 40 mph when I hit the side of a pickup truck. Neither the driver's or passenger's air bags deployed. The fire department said that with this type of impact they should have deployed. The Nissan body shop where the car was located also said they were shocked that with the extent of the damage that they didn't deploy.

The dealership was unable to determine why the airbags deployed. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting further inspection. The manufacturer has been alerted.

On February 11, 2006, I was driving not far from my house, when my vehicle suddenly lost control. We rolled five times before we hit the first tree. We went right over that tree. Then we rolled another three times before we were stopped by a chain link fence with a eucalyptus tree. My airbags did not go off. My vehicle was totaled.

Rear-ended another vehicle-I was travelling approximately 45 miles per hour. Neither air bag deployed. My vehicle was totalled. Taken by ambulance to hospital. My vehicle was purchased new-so I know air bags have never been disconnected. What recourse do I have? faulty equipment? manufacturer? who do I contact?.

While driving 45 mph, consumer was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact none of the airbags depl0yed, causing minor injuries to driver.

Vehicle hit a light pole on passenger's side near headlight, radiator pushed back about 6 inches. Neither airbag deployed. Consumer suffered neck/ back, and head injuries. Vehicle at dealership at this time, may be totalled.

Consumer states vehicle was involved in a frontal collision of 20-25 mph with a tree and neither air bag deployed. The dealer and the manufacturer have not been notified at this time. Nlm.

I an pretty sure at 50 mph hitting another car the airbags should deployed. I don't know enough about them to say that with 100% accuracy, but you would. Nissan will look at the car, but how can I know if they say they shoudl not have deployed if they are saying that to appease me or because it's true.

Was driving 40mph when another vehicle was turning in front. Nissan hit front quarter panel. Upon impact, neither air bags deployed. Was emergency room treatment.

Consumer was traveling about 55mph on a rual route and vehicle ran off the road. Then, he came back on the road, and vehicle started slipping. Right wheel came completely off, and vehicle started rolling three to four times. The passengers were ejected from vehicle. Consumer sustained head injuries. Also, dual airbags didn't deploy. Vehicle was totaled and towed to repair shop.

The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision, and none of the air bags deployed.

While applying unlock button on the keyless remote entry without warning heared a loud noise, causing drivers air bag to deploy.

While driving 45-50 mph, the driver tried to avoid a crash by hitting a wall head on. Upon impact with the wall, none of the air bags deployed. Please provide further information.
