Failure Date: 12/22/2012

After repairing steering column problem (recall id# 10v554000) less than one year, the gear box cracked and power steering fluid drained causing power steering lost function. 3 Steering Column problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/16/2011

The problem with my vehicle is as follows. The upper steering column's bearing has deteriorated so bad the amount of play in the steering is about an inch in every direction. The cost of this repair as per the my local Nissan dealer is roughly $1000. 00. I don't see how this can be considered normal wear in tear in a vehicles life span. I find this to be a serious and very dangerous flaw in the design of your vehicle and should be rectified by some sort of recall. As you can see in the boards it is a common occurrence with the Nissan Xterra and other similar models. I await your response.

4 Steering Column problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/14/2011

I have replaced my starter 3 times. My brake lights have a short or faulty wiring I'm sure because we have replaced the bulbs several times. I have gotten tickets because of this as a result I have a expired brake tag I cant get a new one because the wiring will cost to much. My uv joint broke while I was driving on the high way. That part they tell me is not a common breaking part. Nissan charges over a thousand dollars to repair that. I'm told my wiring is bad after I replace my starter 2 months ago. They sent me a recall for my column steering and I had it repaired but it still is a slight hassle to change gears. I have received a letter telling me they are buying 2004 Nissan Xterra's but when I called the sales man says it's nothing wrong with the Xterra's that's just a sales stunt. I think its a bunch of bull Nissan knows they didn't do a good job with these 2004"s.

5 Steering Column problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

My entire steering wheel shifts vertically and laterally. I am losing control of my steering and experiencing frequent loss of the power steering especially at low speeds. I have investigated online and found out that it was a ball bearing in the steering column assembly. This apparently has been a frequent problem for many other owners. I have contacted Nissan because it is a problem with defective parts and they are giving me the usual run around. I could understand if the problem was due to my negligence but this is clearly a matter that is due to manufacture defect. In fact they asked me to get an estimate from my local dealership, which I did but because they had to open up the steering column, they have since exacerbated the problem.
