2 Suspension problem of the 2015 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/25/2022

Leaf spring snapped. Large piece of metal was found in the road. Rear shocks were replaced under warranty several years prior. Known weak point of Xterras. Dealer replacement costs were astronomical so I upgraded the equipment for the same cost and did the work myself as I am now slightly out of warranty.

3 Suspension problem of the 2015 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/25/2022

The following is an email that I had sent to csx risk management describing what happened with my vehicle on Friday, 2. 25. 2022. I suspect that a defective leaf spring could have contributed to my accident. This is the passenger side leaf spring. I say this because I had to replace the same leaf spring on a 2011 Nissan Xterra pro-4x before. I now have a 2015. -- I went over the csx railroad tracks on three oaks road (northbound, just before old m-11) in sawyer last night -- approximately 9:13pm est. Upon going over the bumpy tracks, it caused my passenger rear wheel to be pushed back into wheel well. The tire was rubbing on the wheel well and it smelled like burning rubber. I'd stopped right away and saw white smoke from the tires. It's looks like the bumpy tracks caused the leaf spring to be damaged or out of place. I can't tell if there are any other damages. My car had to be towed, as it was not drivable. Chikaming township police assisted. The police officer, sargeant brandon jones, and tow truck driver said that the bumpy tracks have been in need of repairs for maybe seven years! why has the tracks not been repaired in such a long time?!! I wasn't the first casualty, and won't be the last. A police report was made. I have an incident # that I have attached to this email. And, a few pictures. More photos of the track will be included in the police report, as sargeant brandon jones went to look at the tracks to investigate. My car was towed to my home in benton harbor, michigan -- as there are no shops to take it to oven the weekend. It will then be towed again to a shop next week. I am officially putting in a claim for property damage to my vehicle.

5 Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/16/2020

Bought vehicle from used from private owner a year ago and noticed less then two weeks later while driving including on the freeway the engine just turns off with no steering control, almost no brake control, and sometimes takes a few minutes to start up again just to get out of the way of other vehicles. Now it’s overheating and leaking coolant on front passenger side floor along with the ground now shutting off more frequently . Also shortly after I bought the vehicle I could hear squeaking noises from under vehicle while driving over the smallest bump and every turn and is so loud it’s heard from 2 small streets away and feels like any second the body might separate from the wheels. I’m not sure about the rest.

6 Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

My transmission and drive shaft went out of my vehicle today out of nowhere. I have a new job to get to and no money to fix or replace this vehicle. It's ridiculous considering it only has 136,000 miles on it. I was 2 miles from my house and driving approximately 20mph and it just stopped accelerating. I was stuck on the side of the road in 5 degree weather. I am beyond dismayed and completely without options.

19 Suspension problem of the 2011 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/06/2012

Passenger side rear leaf spring found to be broken at inspection and had to be replaced. Off warranty at 57,000 miles and a week later driver side leaf spring completely broke while driving on 65mph on highway nearly causing a serious crash,. Had to have vehicle towed. Dealership- wright Nissan in wexford PA openly admits its a defective part issue and there is no way I could have done this as the vehicle has never been off-road and its the pro-4 offroad version of the vehicle. They told me this should never happen, yet I was off 36k warranty and still had to pay for it. I am requesting a recall on those parts. It is a big safety hazard.

20 Suspension problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

Exiting one freeway (315s) to enter another (270w). On a light wet ground, my Xterra spun off the road doing a spin (approx 360 degrees) off the road. There was a light rain 5-10 mins prior, I was doing nor more than 25mph on the exit and without a known reason, and despite tires with tread, the vehicle spun out of control. I purschased this vehicle used and I attempt not to drive this vehicle in the winter because of it not being able to maintain the road in the snow. In addition, if I hit a bump, the rear wheels jerk/skips when it makes contact back with the ground.

22 Suspension problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/14/2011

I have replaced my starter 3 times. My brake lights have a short or faulty wiring I'm sure because we have replaced the bulbs several times. I have gotten tickets because of this as a result I have a expired brake tag I cant get a new one because the wiring will cost to much. My uv joint broke while I was driving on the high way. That part they tell me is not a common breaking part. Nissan charges over a thousand dollars to repair that. I'm told my wiring is bad after I replace my starter 2 months ago. They sent me a recall for my column steering and I had it repaired but it still is a slight hassle to change gears. I have received a letter telling me they are buying 2004 Nissan Xterra's but when I called the sales man says it's nothing wrong with the Xterra's that's just a sales stunt. I think its a bunch of bull Nissan knows they didn't do a good job with these 2004"s.

23 Suspension problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

The lower links and p/nos. This collar weld wasn't strong enough and it has separated and deteriorated, and could cause a possible vehicle crash. It makes noise at a low to high speed. I need my VIN # added to the recall list that is listed above with the other recalls for the nissian Xterra.

24 Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

While traveling at a speed of 60, the vehicle began to shake. After new tires, rotation of the tires, new u-joints, it still shakes very bad. Now I am told it is the "drive shaft" that is "warped" which is going to cost another $800. The garage has removed the drive shaft and now it does not shake. But I will need to replace in order for the 4 wheel drive to work. The vehicle has 72,000 miles.

25 Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/14/2009

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra and had to get the axle or something under the truck welded and it sounds like the part that was recalled.

26 Suspension problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/16/2008

All four tires have cracks along the sides of the tires. Also , when I got new tires, a big o tires shop found that the alignment was bad on the permanent structure of the vehicle that can not be adjusted due to it was the __ toe - sai - included angle - and the total toe.

27 Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

Steering wheel shakes between 55 and 75 mph, inconsistently but always somewhere in that range. Customer service at Nissan is non existent. They do not return calls, and are not concerned about customer safety dealers are a-holes, they do not serve their customers, only want to charge a lot of money and then 1/2 the time will not actually fix what was wrong. At least the one in maryland which I go to (jones) I have heard of them taking your car in and actually taking parts off of it to put on somebody else's car, then putting bad parts back on your car and releasing it to you as well as not doing anything and charging hundreds of dollars as if they did do something. Crooks.

28 Suspension problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

My 2005 Nissan Xterra rear end bottoms out with 4 people in the truck on any kind of bumpy road.

29 Suspension problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

1. After two months (4000 miles), I brought it into the dealer for service. They gave an alignment, which took two days because they said it was so far out of alignment. The car still pulled to the right, so I brought it in for service multiple times, and they always stated that they couldn't duplicate the problem. On 11/17/05, a non-dealership mechanic give an alignment. Again, they required that they keep my car for two days because the alignment was so messed up, and ultimately they said they could not align it. I took it to another independent mechanic, who claimed he aligned it, on 11/23/05. It still wasn't driving properly so I called the corporate headquarters, who told me to take it to a dealer. I paid for an alignment there on 12/1/05. However, the spec sheet they gave me showed that the sai was still out of spec. I took it to another dealer for service, and paid for yet another alignment on 12/13/05. However, the spec sheet they gave me showed that the caster and sai were out of spec. The service manager discovered the front end was raised too high, so they lowered it and gave another alignment, and the sai is still out of spec. The spec for sai ranges from 10. 3 to 11. 3 degrees, and my most recent alignment shows 9. 64 on the left and 10. 24 on the right. When I drove the vehicle brand new off the lot, it wasn't driving properly. At the time, I thought it would be easily fixable and no big deal. But the problem hasn't been resolved yet. The first alignment took two days, and it continued to pull after the alignment. It has always pulled, and the steering wheel twists when driving over bumps or when braking (even on flat surfaces. ) 2. After three alignments in the past two months, my vehicle is still out of spec. No one is able to align it within spec. It is dangerous for a vehicle to be out of alignment because it does not allow the driver full control.

30 Suspension problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/09/2005

I purchased my car(xterra 2006 off road VIN 5n1an08w66c508944) from darcars of indianola inc. , on November 9, 2005. On the same day (the car had only 10 miles) I noticed the steering had a problem. 31 Suspension problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/20/2003

This is a very solid, and stable vehicle in the snow and ice, (with studded snow tires, all season radials only work in florida) it handles well, and performs nicely for a small SUV. The only complaints that I have with this vehicle, is that the ride is a bit rough. And it is a bit uncomfortable for taller people on long rides. To those that are complaining about the vehicle pulling to the left and right. Cure #1, get the car aligned. #2, check the road you are driving on, the track width on the Xterra is narrow, it may be catching a groove in the road. #3 check the tire pressures, to complaints about the braking. . . . . . . Have the brakes checked, rotors, pads, or calipers could be sticking.

The vehicle experienced the failure listed in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

35 Suspension problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/09/2002

Several times since owning the Xterra while driving in rain or snow, the back tires slide constantly and the rear goes out of control. I almost caused an accident due to my vehicle losing control also while driving 25 mph very little rain on a curving road my vehicle's rear started spinning out of control almost killing my 4 passengers and I. There has to be a defect in the rear suspension of the vehicle. "Nissan" own up to your responsibilities!!!.
