1 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/19/2016

My SUV was on a highway, and 4wd indicator light came on and vehicle made a vibrating noise, pulled off and turned vehicle off and would not restart, the SUV was towed to the Nissan dealership for diagnostic test. Results: the codes u1000, p1807 and p0717 (transmission) cost $4, 491,58. In April 2016, I had a leak from the radiator that ruined the transmission. I initially had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed, cost $1000 at Nissan dealership. This was only a band-aid however, and did not fix the problem. 6 months later transmission failed. Nissan put the consumer under the bus. I filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs case# 24403641 with no assistant, due to the mileage of 100k exceeds warranty. Nissan was aware of this default in radiators back in 2007 and did not notify a recall to the consumer. A cross contamination where coolant leaks into the transmission and destroys the transmission. I will never buy another Nissan product, due to this ordeal and very difficult situation. I've always maintained my SUV on all required maintenance. Nissan corporation needs to assist the consumer, and the extended warranty and deductible was a joke. There has been over 2500 consumers affected by this issue. Nissan continues to sell their products and I would highly advise consumers to stop buying Nissan, not a trustworthy company period. Regards, timothy lane breeding.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/04/2016

I purchased this car used from a dealer with approx 64,000 miles. After 2 days and less than 200 miles the car started shuddering as if I was driving over rumble strips and the check engine light came on. The next morning when I went to take it to the dealer there was a horrible rattling sound coming from under the hood that softened as the car warmed up. Needless to say that both of the more common complaints about this car raised their ugly heads at the same time: transmission and timing chains!! I took it to my local Nissan dealer for evaluation and repair and was told that the cost would be between $8-9,000. Thank god for aftermarket warranty. Anyway. . . If Nissan does not intend to issue a recall, there should be a disclosure on carfax/autocheck/etc for these significant problems.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

Vehicle vibrates at 40 mph- making it unsafe - turns out it's transmission issue. . Was informed this is not a new issue after reading online . . . . . Nissan has never recalled these vehicles and instead was sued due to this transmission issue many other Nissans have had. . . I was never informed regarding such an issue. This is unsafe due to the shaking shudder this problem causes especially in a high traffic area and it isn't fsir that the customer stays stuck with a faulty vehicle . . . This issue should be fixed at any mileage since it is Nissans faulty design at fault! shame on you Nissan.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

The car shudders and wont accelerate. The transmission won't shift properly. I understand this was was a class action lawsuit and recall. I am outside the time frame. I was never notified and was deployed at the time.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

While driving vehicle vibrated as if it didn't know whether to shift or not. Found out later that I had water in my trans and trans fluid in my radiator.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

At 60mph and also 40mph the vehicle vibrates heavily and is slow to react to power inputs with no warning signs prior. This was determined to be caused by the known defect related to the radiator / heat exchanger, where the engine coolant mixes with the transmission fluid and gets into the transmission. This then turns into a "pink milkshake" consistency fluid and completely ruins the entire transmission and valve assembly. This requires a complete rebuild or replacement of the transmission and radiator to correct the issue. There is no warning sign and this affects these vehicles at different rates. This can cause cars to seize up unexpectedly in the middle of driving creating a dangerous situation. Since this is a known issue for Nissan trucks model year 2005 - 2010 this should be a safety recall. It is not a matter of if this will happen, it is a matter of when. In my personal situation I had no injury or immediate car shutdown, however I would have no warning if that did occur and has the potential to be dangerous, especially at highway speeds. This has to be investigated and is uncalled for to have a known defect and not disclose this to owners of these vehicles. Additionally, there is a perfectly good way to mitigate this issue by adding a dedicated cooler for the transmission and bypass the radiator, which is a cheap and easy fix to never have this issue.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

The car began to vibrate at 40 mph. I took it to two mechanics who could not figure out the problem. I tried regular maintenance and tire rotation and balance but the vibration continued. Finally, while I was out of town, a mechanic dropped the transmission pan and discovered the engine coolant had entered the transmission system. He discovered that this is a problem with the Nissan Xterra 2005 - 2010. Nissan even has a bypass part to be installed. This piece was installed and the transmission flushed and new transmission fluid put in. The radiator appears to be fine, no cracks as often reported with this problem. Now, three months later, I have serious transmission problems. The car jerks violently at 40mph on acceleration and deceleration. The mixing of engine coolant with the transmission has obviously caused serious damage to my transmission. I am devastated. I love this car but have no financial means to fix this problem.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Car started vibrating like it was going over a rumble strip, loss of power/rpms, unable to accelerate. Problem was intermittent and got worse. Took it to Nissan dealership, and apparently this is a known problem on some makes and models manufactured between 2005-2010 with defective radiators that leak coolant into the transmission system hence damaging it. Since I was at 100,000miles I had a copay of $3000.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Vehicle shudder like rolling over rumble strip. Problem is related to manufacture defect with radiator.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

The car started to shake very badly apx 40 mph. I took it in for repair and found out that the radiator had malfunctioned and allowed coolant into the transmission. The damage was non repairable. My car is in the shop now waiting to have the radiator and transmission replaced.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle began shaking excessively and would not accelerate. 14 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

The trans cooler and radiator has busted. Almost caused us to wreck / vehicle started shaking badly. Was not made aware by Nissan that there could be a "mostly likely to occur" problem until this happened to us. Fuel guage also quit working a few months back. Nissan will not help because vehicle has over 100,000 miles. Their hotline (in the phillipines) was of no help or concern. Repairs , not including fuel gauge, are starting at $5600. Nissan should have told us years ago that the radiators were mostly likely going to be defected so we could have spent the $600 or so then to replace !!!!!.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

Vehicle has been shuddering at around 50mph. Approx 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't shift, so I couldn't drive faster than 25-30 mph. I had the oil changed and transmission flushed, and it seemed ok, although it was still doing the shuddering. Yesterday I noticed a strange puddle on the garage floor, so I checked it out. There is a leak that is causing coolant to leak into the transmission. I began doing some research on the internet and found that this is apparently a fairly common problem in 2005-2010 Nissans. I never received any notice of the warranty extension. When I called the local Nissan dealer, the service guy knew exactly what I was talking about when I described the problem, and estimated that to repair would be $4000-5000.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

Coolant mixes with transmission fluid and causes car to shudder and fail. This causes a situation in traffic that could cause a crash.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

After my vehicle was making shuddering noises between 40 and 50 mph I decided to bring it to the nearest dealership to be checked. I was told the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission. I was also told this has been an issue for Nissan so they would cover part of the repair and I would be responsible for $2500 of the repair since I was 1300 miles over the limit. I was notifies the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. I told the service representative I did not have the money at my disposal and asked if there was anything I could do. I was told when I get the money to call and they will repair it, but to also hurry because the transmission could lock up anytime and cause a major accident. I was shocked they would even let me leave the dealership. I immediately called Nissan customer affairs and explained my situation. They told me I was they would not be able to assist me in any way and suggested the same as the dealership, to quickly get it repaired because I can cause a major accident. I was appalled they would allow their customers be in danger and endanger other drivers on the roads especially when Nissan admits to this being a quality issue that a majority of their consumers are having.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle started shaking and stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. 21 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/30/2012

While driving on the 73n freeway in orange county, my car started shuddering. The temp gauge was ta the max so I pulled over. I was towed in to a Nissan dealership where the master mechanic told me that the problem was caused by the transmission cooler in the radiator failing causing radiator fluid and transmission fluid to mix rendering both inoperable. He also told me that this is a growing problem with Nissan and he has personally seen many such cases. He said that Nissan is using defective radiators which is the main cause of this.

22 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/09/2012

Failure of radiator causes engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid causing transmission destruction. While driving on the highway, vehicle shakes violently and shifts hard during slower driving. Happens to be a very common problem I was un aware of, until it was too late. Dealer service dept advised me it was a $8,000 "known issue" and instructed me to contact Nissan about helping with repairs.

23 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

I was driving down the street at approximately 45 mph. The vehicle began to vibrate horribly. The electrical component that informed me whether I have the vehicle on drive turned off. The check engine light came on. The car began to decelerate. I was having problems getting the vehicle to accelerate. Eventually the vehicle turned off. I took the vehicle to the mechanic who informed me that coolant has entered the transmission and ruined it. Now the vehicle will not start because the coolant shorted the vehicle.

24 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

I was traveling to work that morning. I live on top of a mountain so I was going down a mountain. I started to hear a grinding sound between 40-60 mph. Then the vehicle began to shake. When I would slow down it began to stop. I got to work and when the technician looked at vehicle he stated the coolant had mixed with transmission fluid. I am in the car buisness so I knew that this was major damage. I called a local Nissan dealer and to my surprise learned that this is a well know issue with this vehicle. I am very upset and this could have caused a major accident being on a mountain and having the transmission go out. I have taken very good care of this vehicle and am very displeased with the service. I wrote a complaint to Nissan north America and the only reply I recieved wa to tell me about an open recall on the vehicle. Well since the vehicle can't be driven I guess that recall will have to wait. I did replace the radiator and flushed the transmission several times in hopes that it would save the transmission but so sorry to say I still have the shutter and vibration at 40 -60 mph. The extended warranty that Nissan has come up with is a laugh! most complaint I have seen the consumer has problems well after 100000 miles and why should the consumer pay anything on a defected part that caused the damage. Shame on Nissan!.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

My Nissan which I loved originally when I purchased it brand new has been nothing but problems and I have maintained it and serviced it faithfully. I had taken my truck for service twice prior to this incident for regular maintenance and nothing was detected as far as the radiator cracking. This is what causes the transmission to go. The first time I went for service it was still under warranty nothing was said. The second time at 80588 another service was done basic oil change and tire rotation supposedly everything checked out fine each time a multi point inspections was done. I imagine this includes placing the vehicle on the diagnostic computerized machine. Well, shortly after this is when my major problems began. My vehicle began to vibrate as if I was on the highway riding on the shoulder were the warning strips with the grids vibrates your car when you go over onto them. I related the vibration to the recent tire rotation I checked the tires made sure nuts were tight and nothing was off; everything checked out fine. The awkward vibration continued so I scheduled an appointment with my local Nissan dealer and that?s when I got the devastating news a whopping $7371. 00 in repairs for a cracked radiator and damaged transmission. There were no warning signs what so ever no engine light, no overheating, and no smell of antifreeze. Nissan is fully aware of the problem and so are the dealers. Nothing was said to me with prior visits and they quickly knew what the problem was and were certain of the problem. These dealers are definitely aware and making money off innocent consumers for these unjust out of pocket repairs. Where is the justice in all of this?.

26 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/07/2012

Transmission failed to shift and made loud noises while driving. Caused the car to shake but did not lose control. Failed part in radiator allowed antifreeze into transmission and transmission fluid into radiator. Complete failure of radiator and transmission could have occurred on highway at speed. Know issue from Nissan who did nothing to communicate to vehicle owners on risks or precautions to take as well as no ownership for fixing this.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Vehicle vibrates around 40 mph, vibrates at certain rpms.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

My Nissan Xterra started making a vibration sound around August of 2011. It sounded like your vehicle was running over a "rumble strip". It was infrequent at first so I ignored it. I did notice some other warning signs of potential trouble (at hindsight). The vehicles heater would never heat the interior of the vehicle at idle, but would do it at speed. Nissan knows the issue is a defect but refuses to take responsibility. Several times while I have been driving the vehicle it would shudder and almost result in a accident. I have only narrowly avoided a collision on 3 separate occasions. Nissan extended the powertrain warranty to 80,000 miles because they know of the issue, but refuse to admit its a defect. Had I been informed about the warranty extention I may have been able to have it services while within the warranty period. My vehicle is currently at 83,000 miles, but within the 96 month portion of the warranty. I'm currently afraid to drive the vehicle on the highway because I'm worried the transmission will fail at high speed and result in a serious accident.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

05 Nissan Xterra radiator leaked antifreeze into the transmission causing the vehicle to not move until rpm's reached a certain speed. Car had been vibrating prior to incident which was thought to be tires. Car was towed to transmission shop and at a cost of $4800 for repairs. I understand this is a problem that multiple owners have had and that Nissan is not accepting responsibility for. I was put at risk as I drive 35 miles each way to and from work and a majority of this driving is done on the highway. My drive time is very early in the morning and very late at night. If the car had broke down I would have been stranded on the side of the highway.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/19/2011

I purchased my vehicle brand new in 2007 and have had it regularly maintained since this time. I was driving down the highway at about 60 mph, when the vehicle began to shake violently. I was in fairly heavy traffic and had difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle as I struggled to pull it to the side of the road. I had it towed into my local dealership who informed me that the radiator had cracked and coolant had worked it's way into the transmission. I am being told that I need to replace the radiator and transmission which will cost me $5500 in parts and labor. In addition to this, transmissions for this vehicle are on backorder and I must wait even longer for the repairs. Of course, I have 95,000 miles on the vehicle and that means I am outside of the warranty coverage. My biggest complaint is that this problem is likely a manufacturer defect and seriously puts owners at risk of injury or even death. I wish Nissan would be more accommodating in reimbursing the repairs and warning owners about this problem in the future.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

The contact owns 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact was driving 45 mph when the vehicle started to shake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

Transmission failure caused by radiator leak, which causes vibration in vehicle which can be hazardous and costly. Internet comments suggest problem is known by manufacturer but warrantees have not been extended, and dealer quoted full price for repair: $5,000+ on vehicle worth $11,000.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/12/2010

I bought a new Nissan Xterra from sloane Nissan in 2006, after 70+ miles, the car vibrates at around 40mph while shifting automatic gear (I did not know why it was vibrating). Finally aft 80+ miles, I took it to the dealer to only find out that the radiator blew the transmission. That is a shame, I just finished paying for the car and now I have to spend more money to fix it. It seems to be a very common problem with Nissan Xterra, pathfinder & frontier. The radiator is junk and needs to be recalled.
