1 Wiring problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

The airbag lite began flashing on the dashboard. Took vehicle to the dealership and the only fix action was to begin replacing parts that Nissan recommended until it was fixed. No exact fix was given only the following: visually check wiring harness for connection and damage. All ok. Next step in procedure is to replace driver's airbag module. Subsequent procedures are to replace spiral cable, then diagnostic unit, and related harness. These are all costly steps and the parts being replaced may not be bad. The dealership couldn't determine exactly which portion was failing. In conclusion: the fix action was being replacing parts (extremely costly) until the problem is fixed. Computer code: b1054 (driver airbag module open).

2 Wiring problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/07/2013

Just bought auto from used car dealer day before. Drove it 30 miles pulled in visited then went out to start auto. Would not start traced back to blown fuse, changed fuse tried starting again, blew fuse again, one more time then when auto started smoke came out from under hood. After 3 months of replacing electrical wiring from frying narrowed down to radiator and transmission (fuse that blew) the coolant had backed up and tore up transmission. If it had been on the road there would have been a full blown fire on a highway with possibility of human damages.

3 Wiring problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/13/2008

I purchased this Xterra in may of 2006. In the past 8 weeks I have had to have my 06 Nissan Xterra towed to the dealer six times for the same issue of not starting. The first time I was told I was out of gas. Since then, I've been told the security module had gone bad, I had corrosion on the battery terminal causing it to go in to stolen mode, the fuel pump had gone bad (replaced twice), and the wiring harness to the fuel pump had a short in it (replaced twice). The dealer says they have not been able to replicate the problem and want to give me my car back without actually finding out the real issue. This is my family vehicle and I do not do any towing or off-road with it. Prior to these issues, my transmission went out at 11k miles and left me stranded on the side of an interstate for over 3 hours while I waited for a tow truck, and have had to have the fuel gauge sensor, catalytic converter, and tire pressure sensors replaced.

7 Wiring problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/03/2006

Vehicle: 2002 Nissan Xterra se tail lights, front side marker lights, dash panel illumination failed due to wire chafing behind driver's side front marker light. The back of the bulb socket for the front side marker light pinches it's connection wire against the head of a 10mm screw located immediately behind the bulb socket. There is not enough clearance between the bulb socket and the chassis screw. The side marker light is mounted in the top edge of the front bumper where it wraps around the side of the vehicle. The bumper moves up and down when the road surface is not smooth, which causes the wire to be rubbed against the head of the chassis screw, which wears the insulation from the wire and results in an electrical short between the damaged wire and the frame of the vehicle. The front side marker lights share the fuse which also protects the tail lights, so when the short occurs the tail lights become inoperative. Until we finally found the problem, my daughter had to drive home at night without tail lights on three occasions. The last time it happened, she was stopped by a police officer because her tail lights were not working. I inspected the side marker light on the opposite (passenger) side of this vehicle and found that was much more clearance between the bulb socket and the chassis.

9 Wiring problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/05/2005

There was no warning before the ignition wiring in my 2001 Nissan Xterra fried. The engine cut out while driving to enter the freeway. I was then told by the dealership where I purchased the vehicle that I was lucky that the Xterra didn't catch on fire and it fried because of an after market alarm,it doesn't have an after market alarm its the same as when I bought it,nine months prior. They are going to fix it but I have to pay for new ignition wire. I'm still wondering why the fuses didn't break like they were suppose to, preventing this whole situation from happening.

10 Wiring problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

12 Wiring problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/25/2004

I own a 2003 Nissan Xterra with 7400 miles on it. On Wednesday, February 25, 2004, I attempted to roll down my windows and all four windows were powerless. I called conicelli Nissan service in conshohocken, PA immediatley and brought it in for service the next day (February 26, 2004). During the first service check, the technician could not duplicate the concern and did not fix anything. On February 27, 2004, the exact same thing happened to my windows. This time my front, right, driver-side window was down and I was not able to get it up. I immediately called conicelli, explained the situation, and drove directly to the dealership. This time the assistant service manager and technician were able to see for themselves the problem. They had to connect a charge to the wire to roll the window up. I was told to come back on Monday, March 1, 2004. On March 1, 2004, they replaced the master panel switch and tightend up a wire that was apprarently loose. The service was done from the direction from a Nissan techincal call. On March 3, 2004, while I thought my car was fixed, I once again attempted to roll down my windows and they were powerless. I called conicelli Nissan and drove directly to the dealership where my car remains today (March 4, 2004). I have not heard back from the dealership yet. I am completely baffled that my car has been looked at three times in six business days and my windows are still not working properly. Maybe the fourth time will work.

Three of the four power windows on my 2001 Nissan Xterra failed.

16 Wiring problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/24/2003

X-terra stopped while driving on the interstate 4 times in two days. Finally had to have it towed to Nissan dealer after 5th time it stopped, this time in rush hour traffic. Mechanic couldn't find anything wrong even on computer, then on second day decided it was the fuel pump, and replaced it, and then determined that it was not the fuel pump, but a wiring problem that burnt out the fuel sending unit. Cost was over $700. 00, plus tow bill, and rental car. Also manifold is cracked, and was before waranty expired, but dealer where it was bought said that the waranty did not cover it and advised us to have a local mecahnic to fix it because it would be cheaper. Have now learned that both fueld sneding unit, and manifold are a problem on many Xterras.

17 Wiring problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/20/2003

I purchased a brand new 2002 Nissan Xterra vehicle in November 2001. The vehicle was purchased at the pacific Nissan dealership in san diego, California. My wife and children went on an outing on easter Sunday. While at lunch, 5-15 minutes go buy and a person inquires about a parked Xterra on fire. To my wife's horror it was our Xterra with the widows up and flames/smoke coming from the dash/steering column area. My insurance and the fire marshal determined the fire appeared to be an electrical short/arching and no other apparent sources of ignition were present. The vehicle was determined to be a total loss. I had the vehicle towed to pacific Nissan where I purchased it and have maintained their recommended routine service. The service management questioned why the vehicle was brought over to the service department and not to their body shop. I explained the body shop sent us over to the service department. He explained to he could not do anything and that I would have to contact my insurance. I questioned him why I have to suffer going through my insurance when this was obviously a manufacturer defect and my vehicle was still under the basic warranty. Knowing I was not getting anywhere with this guy, I requested a phone number for customer service and he explained to me that they would only refer me back to him. I am confused on what I should do. Should I pay the deductible and hope my insurance will pay the whole amount owed on my vehicle? should I get a lawyer? no matter what I am still out a vehicle and have to, in one way or another, pay for some out of pocket expenses. I have contacted the Nissan consumer affairs depart. And they explained to me they would have to look into it. The customer affairs rep. Did inform me that there was a recall on their air bag module, but he was not sure what could happen. I have also, in the past, taken in this vehicle in to the service department to replace a gasket in the axle area because it was dripping fluid.

18 Wiring problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/06/2003

While driving, fuel sending unit(#25060-4s415) on 2000 Nissan Xterra failed. This part failure cause engine to cease function due to a cut in power to fuel pump. It was determined by a mechanic that the wiring harness of the sending unit failed due to the corrosion of the wires and the connection terminal. This corrosion is believed to be cause either by the fuel or by water and salt.

19 Wiring problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/28/2002

I have serious electrical malfunction with my 2002 Nissan Xterra. The electrical short causes my amp to blow and stereo to die. I have brought my truck in over 7 times (*currently in dealership's serv dept for exact same problem) and my truck has been "out of service" for 23 days (*currently in dealership's serv dept as we speak) since the problem originally occurred. There has never been a problem found w/in my electrical system or stereo, only amps and fuses replaced (7 times and counting).
