Six problems related to fuel delivery have been reported for the 1999 Oldsmobile 88. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle's fuel pressure regulator failed. The vehicle idled fast and died. The mechanic found a fuel pressure regulator cracked and leaking. The upper intake manifold gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced.
After the dealership performed the fuel pressure regulator recall 04v090000 the consumer continued to experience problems. .
Experienced serious problems with intake manifold. There was a backfire through the intake manifold which produced a loud bang and severe damage to other items in the engine compartment. The consumer believed the problem she experienced was the same as the recall that was issued. It was discovered the fuel pressure regulator was defective, however the consumers claim for reimbursement was denied.
The vehicle stalled while driving. When this occurred, the vehicle lost power steering and brakes. The vehicle was serviced several times by the dealership and the fuel pressure regulator recall 04v090000 repairs were performed, but the stalling still occurred. The consumer took the vehicle to another mechanic and they that the crack shaft position sensor was bad.
The fuel pressure regulator was recalled and the manufacturer replaced it with the same type of regulator which lead to a leak and allowed the fuel to leak into the intake manifold which lead to the antifreeze going into the oil causing the engine to back fire and eventually ruining the engine. Request for compensation for engine failure as a result of a defective plastic intake manifold. Coolant leaked into the engine which was caused by the main bearing seizing. Recall# 04v090000. The initial diagnosis was that the seal under the plastic plenum was defective. The check engine light had come on within two blocks of leaving the service dealer. They found that coolant leaked into the engine again and the warped plastic plenum would not seal against the manifold. The consumer stated the vehicle needed other repairs such as a replacement motor for the passenger's window, power steering hose which was leaking, a rear wheel cylinder and a new transmission.
