Two problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 1999 Oldsmobile 88. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After fuel regulator replaced for recall my olds delta 88 stalls out, failing to restart. I have had it towed four times. Have had fuel pump and filter changed twice - did not solve problem. It stalls while driving, upon initial starting and at stops. This problem is "periodic" and mechanic has been unable to determine problem. Engine runs very rough, and then fails to start. Had fuel tank drained 3 times no solution yet!.
When attempting to crank the vehicle the engine back fired and smoke billowed from under the hood of the vehicle. The dealer informed the consumer that the fuel pump was replaced, because when they attempted to start the vehicle it back fired and blew up the manifold, however on July 9, 2004 the consumer received a recall notice regarding the fuel pressure regulator which describe in detail in which the consumer stated sounded just like the problem he experienced. The consumer submitted a claim for reimbursement, but was denied. The manufacturer stated the part on his vehicle that was replaced was not the part that was recalled.
