I got car on 2/28/07 new brakes rotors and tires were put on car. Now I have a loud squeal and grinding in the steering wheel, and brake pedal an the warning signal says service vehicle soon traction off and antilock brake. I took it to get checked, but the mechanic can't find the problem.

The right front wheel bearing / anti- lock brake unit has gone bad twice in the past two years. The left front wheel bearing / anti- lock brake unit has gone bad once in the past two years. When the unit starts to fail the brakes do not work or pulse momentarily and then they work again. I have had several close calls of rear ending someone at a stop sign or red light when I depress the brake and there is no slow down for up to 2-3 seconds until the anti-lock system is shut off buy the cars computer. When I reported this to the Oldsmobile dealer in painted post, new york they notified me that this was a common problem on the olds Alero's. I have replaced the right front wheel bearing / anti lock brake unit twice. The left front wheel bearing / anti-lock brake unit currently needs to be replaced.
While driving at low speed and applying brake pressure there were no brakes whatsoever. This resulted in an accident. The vehicle skidded, went over small embankment, and struck a tree where it came to a stop, vehicle was towed to the a wrecker service shop. Has not been to a repair shop or dealership. Also, there was no explanation as to why this occurred. In the past there was an issue where on parking on a incline a block had to be placed behind to wheels to keep itfrom rolling.

The left front wheel was making a sound from the brakes. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated it was the weather making the brakes sound. The brakes are now so defective that when they are pressed, they go all the way to the floor.

Front bearing hubs failure. Front suspension failure, front break system failure.
While driving at 65 mph in the rain consumer depressed the brakes and they locked up, causing the driver to lose control of vehicle, and hit a large rock head on. The vehicle bounced off the rock and hit the embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over three times. The emergency medical services were called to the scene. Consumer stated that both frontal air bags did not deploy.

We have had to replace the hub assembly on our 2001 olds Alero 4 times and now the lights are back on again. Also the blinkers and drivers window work intermittently.
Feel brakes on vehicle are defective requiring multiple repairs as a result. Do not think they are safe even after repaired given the repeat frequency of subsequent repairs. In addition, glass panes on all four side windows have long mechanical scratch marks, which sometimes catch glare of sun/headlights when looking out those windows during lane changes. Scratches appear to be result of defective window housing/mechanicals.
The anti-lock brake system is inoperable, it is causing the engine to shut off at any particular time while driving. So I'm afraid that this problem was cause by the Oldsmobile manufacturer, and the situation need to be check into.

Brakes have been replaced twice and rotors have turned five times. Dealer stated it was a design flaw in the brake assembly.
When backing up and applying brakes pedal went to the floor, no braking action. Vehicle hit another vehicle. Damage was $ 2500. 00, no injuries.
Alternator failed, consumer was told this was normal because alternator was located above engine. Brakes make noise due to rotor and pad failure. Air pressure light comes on due to front tire air leak.
Defective rotors had to be repaired on both front and back. Dealership said not covered by warranty.
Bought this vehicle new on 8/3/00, since then the rotors have been replaced due to excessive warping 3 times. Problem still exists. Warped rotors prevent the abs braking system from functioning properly. Car shakes violently when braking at highway speeds resulting in extended stopping distances and creates a major safety concern, some accidents have already occurred, must someone's life be claimed before something is done? I have contacted the manufacturer who was very rude and disconcernig with regard to this problem. In researching this problem, I have discovered that these cars and other makes are very prone to this problem and gm has no permanent repair for it. The quality and safeness of the Alero is unacceptable general motors should be pressured until they can fix this design problem.
Terrible brake system-very scary family car.
This is the second time the rotor on the front right side has warped. I had it replaced at around 34000 miles (January 2000) and now, at 63,500 miles, it is needing replacing again. The steering wheel shakes when lightly applying pressure to the brakes at 55-70 mph, the same as what brought me into the dealership the first time around. I am no longer under warranty (3/36) so I will probably have to pay for the replacement (estimate was $270+ from a local shop) for the replacement. There needs to be more investigation on the '99 Alero, maybe even a recall to fix what is causing the problem.
Vehicle accelerates on its own, will not respond to braking. It will accelerate for 5-7 miles before it slows down. This has happened 5 times, dealer could not find cause. Vehicle at dealership at this time.
Brakes and transmission problems; brakes pulsate, metal to metal noise. Abs brakes/rotors needed to be replaced. Also, transmission locked into gear, no shifting.
I am being charged for brake replacement at 23,000 miles by a dealer,so I called for another opinion. When I called two other dealers and Oldsmobile themselves (bruce) I was told this is a common problem. I asked if this is common why am I paying for something that should be warranty, they said brakes are consumable and if this problem reoccurs they would cover it than but for now I must pay to have the brakes replaced and rotors repaired $207. 50.
On fourth set of new rotors, just left shop, problem returns one week! help! car is dangerous! dealer new about it to. No safety defec tlisted.
While aplying brakes pedal would slowly go to the floor if you pumped it it would come back and pedal presure felt mushy. While gotng down a hill, pedal went to the floor. Took to GMC dealer and he said brake fluid was contaminated and warranty wouldnt cover repairs. It cost 2100$ to fix it this car has only been seviced at GMC dealers brake fluid had a greenish couler to it . Insurance adjuster took a sample idont no the results of it.
The brake rotors have been replaced twice @ only 40,000 miles. They are now needing replacement again. This vehicle needs to be recalled and someone needs to find out why the rotors keep warping.
While driving about any speed would steep on brake pedal, but brakes will not work as they should, resulting in extended stopping distance. Also, rotors had to be replaced a couple of times.
When applying brakes at 40 mph and higher there is vibration. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 4-5 times, no problem was found.
Vehicle keeps shaking whenever applying brakes at speeds above 30 mph.
This Alero is junk we have not been happy with it since we bought it. Two paint jobs, brake work, transmission shifts too hard, car run hot ,long list would like to have a car that isnt a hunk of junk.
Brakes worn, rotors scored, dealer turned rotors, in August 2000 dealer replaced rotors, now June 2001 brakes and rotors bad again. Dealer says not a problem with car, lucky I'm getting that much use out of the brakes.
Right front wheel separated while driving due to lugs and hubs coming off vehicle. Also, brake cable was cut and vehicle was without brakes. Dealer/manufacturer notified .
No summary listed for this vehicle.
When depressing brakes vehicle would go into extended stopping distance. Brake rotors have been replaced by dealer three times . Please provide further information.
Brakes rotors have been replaced three times. Also, when depressing brakes vehicle goes into extended stopping distance. Please provide further information.
Brake rotors were replaced three times. Also when depressing brakes, pedal went to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.
Each and everytime I step on the brakes I fear losing control. Whenever I step on the brakes the car begins to shake or pulsate or both, at times it becomes really hard to stop. (my emergency brakes are not in working order as well) I made two attempts going on a third to resolve this problem (plates were recut by dealer) but with no success I'm forced to make an offical complaint. I believe this failure to produce/maintain a safe vechile is both the mfg & dealers fault.
When consumer applies brakes vehicle pulsates/vibrates and then veers to the right.
Abs brake ligh illuminates and remains on while vehicle is being driven. Brakes will lock up. Dealer cannot correct problem.
