3 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/28/2002

My brakes failed last night while driving almost causing an accident. It's in my gargage at home now because I'm afraid to drive it to the dealer. My dealer is saying too bad, bring it in, but you'll have to pay. Manufacturer is saying too bad, we've never heard of such issues, even though I have 51 pages of complaints. This is why olds is going out of business, for building crap cars, that they don't back! I will never buy another gm car again!!!! I find this totally unacceptable to have no brakes after just 15,000 miles and no prior issues. Now since the incident last night the brakes grind horribly and go right to the floor. What a joke and embarrassment for gm! dt.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 03/02/2002

Brake system failure. Pedal went to floor. Occured once before without incident. This time caused major accident totaling vehicle. Applied brakes. Pedal went to floor. No warning lights came on. Related note. . . Both times, "low tire pressure" light falsely came on day before failure. All tires were properly inflated both times. False tire inflation low light seems to predict system failure.

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

By 3000 miles the brakes on my 2001 olds Alero began to make a scraping noise under normal driving conditions. The car now has 10,614 miles on it and the brakes make a scraping sound all of the time and when the abs is engaged the car comes to a metal to metal, grinding, grabbing, shaking halt. I have found no resolution with gm, weliever-martinsville, the indiana attorney general and finally arbitration with the better business bureau. Their stand is simply that the car will stop. Regardless of what ever is happening to the brakes at this point, the car will stop. It is within gm's specifications therefore it is "normal. " if the car has gone from normal braking to scraping to grinding and grabbing what will another 6 months, a year, 2 years bring? because it is grinding metal to metal with only 10,000 miles on it does that mean that the car should have a complete brake job every 10,000 miles or less? if the brakes aren't replaced every 10,000 miles or less, how many miles before the brakes actually fail and someone is injured or killed. Sound familiar? Ford-firestone. I've done everything I know to do. I have turned the car back over to gm. I will not drive this car and I will not be held hostage by general motors or weliever Oldsmobile. The arbitrator from the better business bureau drove my car. There were 4 of us in the car, phillip allen-bbb arbitrator, larry jones-weliever, peggy (?) bbb, and myself. The arbitrator drove during the test drive, put the car in an "emergency" stopping situation and after experiencing the grinding, shaking halt he lied on his report and said that "the problem does not exist. " it is totally beyond my comprehension why a man in his position would out right lie. Why the service techs and people like him won't stand up for us who are having these problems and tell gm that "hey someting is wrong with these cars. " is totally beyond me. Nothing about the brakes on this car is "normal" except in gm's words.
