About a year ago, my husband and I noticed that the front drivers side window wasn't rolling up and we heard it snap. We were able to pull the window up and had it there for about 7 months until the window clips broke and the whole window fell into the door. We bought a new window and a new window regulator but now it's doing the same thing again. What is wrong with this car? this is a serious issue when living in minnesota. It's almost winter time and we don't have a working window or at least one that stays shut at all times. Should Oldsmobile have to recall all windows and replace them for free? plastic clips? how would you ever think they would hold up? I'm very upset because we don't have a lot of money and these window issues are costing us a lot of money.

I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. The drivers side window was pausing while being put down. Then it started shaking when it was going up. One day when I tried to put it down the window itself didn't move. As I was driving the window proceeded to literally fall inside the door. To get it back up I had to pull up on the glass itself and push the window control to get it up. I took it to a repair shop and was told that the piece that holds the glass had broken off. They tried to glue it with a kind of glass glue. It held for about a week and then fell again. I have not put the window down since then, about six months. Now the passenger window is doing the same thing. My grandmother also has on Oldsmobile and her drivers side window has done the same thing as mine.

The contact owns a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact was experiencing issues with the driver's side door regulator and motor. In addition, the rubber channel that is located inside the window was not tight and could cause the window to fall out and shatter. The window failure was repaired at the contact's expense. He also stated that the fuel system pressure regulator was failing. He heard a ticking noise and the vehicle drove differently. The dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle because it was no longer under warranty. The contact also believed that the steering wheel was not steering correctly. The dealer still refused to inspect the vehicle. The contact would like his complaint to be a priority because he is a vietnam veteran with multiple physical challenges and a limited income. The failure mileage was 10,375 and current mileage was 13,000.
The passenger window will not roll up and I have seen several complaints about this problem on this particular make and model. Although there is no damage, I have been concerned about my vehicle being stolen and have been concerned for my personal safety while being unable to roll up the window.

I own a 1999 Alero coupe 3. 4l v6, had to replace the window regulator on the drivers side. The window would come off trac and fall down into the door. I was able to grab the window the few times it happened and pull it back into place. The last time it happened I was at the bank drive-up, it was raining and the window fell all the way down in this time and I couldn't grab it. Don't have a garage so I had to take the door off to get the window in the pouring rain and it was a Sunday. Took it to the mechanics on Monday and had it fixed. The window regulator came completely off.
The contact owns a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact activated the turn signals to switch lanes. The hazard light switch began making a rapid, loud clicking noise that lasted for an hour. She took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that her VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch). The failure has not been corrected. The contact also had to replace the window regulators five times because the plastic breaks and causes the regulators to fail. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The powertrain was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 142,000.
On 9/26/2007 my 2002 olds Alero refused to start, I finally had to leave at at my job, it started the next day, I called the dealer (I had purchased it from drivetime) in Nov 2006, they stated that I had to bring it to their approved mechanic, I took it there, their mechanic stated it was the fuel pump and it would cost 755. 00. That included the drivers window which fell into the door for the second time, I called drivetime who then put me on a repair assistance program, I drove the car home, that same day the car would not start again, it is now January 2008 and I still do not have a working vehicle and am refusing to pay for it. The mechanic called me back and said that it is the computer and he cannot fix it I now have to have it towed to the nearest dealer who may or may not fix it free of charge. I think its a disgrace, that a company can make such a piece of junk have all these complaints on it and nothing is done. I for one am not going to pay one more cent, the dealer could keep the car, and do with it whatever he wants, I realize this is a reposession but I am not a rich person and it is obvious that problems will only get worse with this vehicle, I think there should be a class action suit against gm, olds, drivetime for selling the lemon knowing all the problems these vehicles have.

I purchased a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero in 2003, since that time I have had to replace the power window regulators on the windows 5 times, the rear passenger side window twice. I have also had to replace the drivers side window master switch within the first 45 days of purchase to be able to open the front driver and front passenger windows. The power window regulator failure causes the windows to fall into the door panel leaving me no alternative but to replace the regulator immediately when this happens, for safety reasons as well as protection from the elements. I have also had to replace the molding on the front windshield. On all occasions I took the car to the dealership to repair the parts, receipts are available however I do not have the old parts. The last time I had the window regulator replaced I expressed concern at this consistent failure, I was told by the service person "since GMC changed to the cable windows there had been some problems but not enough for a recall".
1. The drivers side window and passenger side window start to slow down when being rolled up or down, within weeks of noticing that the window will either fall to the bottom of the door or get stuck on the track. Have replaced each window motor twice and now replacing the drivers side for the third time. The window also has to be replaced this time, because of cracks. They have told me now, that Oldsmobile has changed the window motor and frame. Meaning that the entire things has to be replaced. Costing well over 600 dollars. If gm wanted to change the window settings and everything else shouldn't they have sent out a recall for this. Was also told by a gm dealer in parts that the windows were not lasting for the entire life of the car.
Both of my power windows are no longer working. At first the driver side window started working slowly. It would sometimes get stuck and I would have to push it up. I stopped using that window because it was too much of a worry. Then one day I put down the passenger window with no problem and when I went to put it up it fell into the door. I took the car to a window repair shop and had the guy put the window up but was unable to pay to have it fixed since it costs a lot. Now both of my windows are not functioning.
: the contact stated on several occasions the power windows failed. The driver side window had the motor and regulator replaced, the passenger side front window had the regulator replaced, and the rear passenger had the cable, motor and regulator replaced. And now the rear driver side window malfunctioned but has not been seen by the dealer.
Drivers side automatic rear window falls down, and won't roll up except by hand. I've read several complaints online of the same issue happening, and sometimes multiple times after repairs were done. I'm surprised there hasn't been a recall. I can't afford the repair, so I'm stuck with the problem. If I go on long trips, I have to tape the window up and the window is an eye-sore because of it.
In the last six months three out of 4 windows on my vehicle are now held up with duct tape so that they don't fall into the channel and I can't get them up. Luckily, only one of them managed to do that and a friend managed to get it back up for me. That occurred at the end of January 2006. I could understand one- maybe- but three!!! no. This is definitely a safety issue. I suspect the only reason that my one working window, the back passenger side, is still working is because I haven't tried to put it down- or the result would be the same. I am sure that is going to be expensive to repair, so I guess I'll go with the duct tape for a while. I have also had a problem with the intake manifold, the gaskets on that were replaced in January, 2006. I was losing antifreeze from the overflow tank, and having to fill it every day. Took it to the dealer, and they found the water pump leaking and the intake gaskets leaking. They were replaced at my expense. And. . . The intermittent turn signal is also a problem. That has been going on for about a year now. It should be recalled for that, like you did for the 2000- 2001 vehicles. The vehicle has 70,000 miles on it. The interior trim on this vehicle is shoddy, and that is being kind. The car was purchased brand new with 23 miles on it when we got it to our house in June, 1999. In less than a year a door panel had to be replaced because it had come apart. The dashboard has been peeling for about 11/2 years because they used cheap glue to hold the covering on the plastic. I realize that you consider that cosmetic, but it shouldn't be happening: I check every Alero I see in a parking lot and there are a lot with peeling dashboards. Gm should be responsible for fixing that- they caused the problem. Gm caused multiple problems on this vehicle by doing it on the cheap. It is very costly to the people who own them, and it shouldn't be. I don't mind paying for routine repairs, I expect that, but these problems are not "routine".
Driver's side window motor has been replaced three times in the last 4 years. Rear driver's side window motor has also been replaced in the last year. Amazing how this keeps happening over and over again. Also, my horn has gone off in the middle of the night several times without anything setting it off. There is no way to turn it off once it goes. Each time it was 3 or 4 in the morning and each time I had to drive to a remote location just to disconnect the horn. Of course, the first couple of times I had no idea how to do this but after a while you get to know these things. I have had the horn replaced on several occasions without any success. Now I am being told that it is the horn pads located in the steering wheel. Of course, that is another $800 - $1000 job on top of the 4 windows that cost about $400 each and the horns with ran me about $150 to $200 each.
Driver window fell into the door when the holding clips inside the door broke off the lift mechanism.
Locked up ignition switch cruise control fell apart gear shift shifter not secure and slides up the shift. . Both oxygen sensors failed all four windows electric motors, and racks have been replaced front end vibration when stopped or parked on incline dash board leather cover came loose and rolled up like a used rug original fuel filter have to be pried out of line and then pieces left had to be removed with needle nose pliers. Fuel gauge as never worked. Now its running about 4 miles and then quits, sets for 30 minutes and drive another 4 miles then quits. Code reader says engine running lean, (problem is 4 to 5 sensors including the injectors could be causing this, no way to tell with replacing them until it runs. The expense of this could be 1000 to 3000 dollars. Electric door locks failed , replace switch, only works part of the time.
Since Feb. My car has been in for repairs 4 times. I bought the car used in sept. 05 and almost immediately noticed there was a problem when the window would not roll down and the temp. Gauge went on hot (and the car was not). I took it in to the dealer and they of course found nothing wrong since the computer they use to diagnose problems wasn't registering anything. Not quite a month had passed when I started to have difficulty starting the car, a few days later the car stalled while driving in a. M. Traffic on the fwy. It was taken to the dealer again, they stated it was cpc computer had to be reprogrammed and the igniter had to be replaced. On the way home after picking up the car, it stalled again, and would not restart. Again the next day it was taken in and the ignition switch was replaced. A few weeks pass and the same problems start to occur, this time when it was there, nothing could be found. This is a potentially a very dangerous problem, this time again driving on the fwy. The car stalled, I made it to the shoulder of the road, the car again as usual would not restart, next time this happens I may not be as lucky. My car is at the dealer currently and they cannot seem to find out what is wrong. In reading other numerous complaints this obviously is a problem. Who is responsible? does someone have to killed before GMC does something about this?.
Driver's side car window rolled down but wouldn't go back up. Car is 2001 olds Alero 2 dr. Was having problems prior to incident with the window rolling all the way down instead of just part of the way. The regulator is still making a sound so the motor is still operable for the moment but the window is off the track or the plastic pieces that hold the window are broke. What happened tossing metal. It would save headaches for everyone.
: the contact stated while driving at various speeds there was a humming noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Additionally, the abs light illuminated, the cruise control became inoperable, a burning smell appeared and the vehicle was loosing water. The dealership inspected the vehicle. The battery, wiring, spark plug wiring and a belt were replaced. The water pump and window switch was replaced. The blower motor needed to cleaned out. The brakes were inoperative updated 05/01/06.
2002 Alero window regulator is brittle and disintegrating causing window to fall down. The cd player was inoperative, the rear view mirror was loose and the low tire pressure monitor message came on.
Around July 15, 2005 my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero passenger side window fell out of the channel and into the door. (the window was being rolled up and made a loud noise. When trying to roll down window again it fell into the door. ) I had the window regulator replaced by a local automotive center on July 15, 2005 for a total of $231. 15 parts and labor. On January 30, 2006 the driver side window was rolled down and when rolling it back up a loud noise was heard as it reached the top of the door frame. When pressing the button to roll the window back down the window fell into the door. Took the car to a local automotive service center and was quoted over $400 for parts and labor for a new motor/regulator and new glass since the arms of the regulator were broke and still stuck to the glass. I have not had the driver side window fixed yet since I am trying to better understand how this could have happened to both windows in less than a year.
Power windows on 2000 Alero are defective to me. Two out of my four power windows either do not go down or only work on occasion. The back window behind the driver stopped working and the window would not stay up. When I would be driving down the road, it would just start to slide down. The front passenger window is not working at all right now. I can't get it to budge at all.
Contact states the driver's side and passenger's side windows will not go up or down. The vehicle was taken to the dealership. Where they found the window regulator motor is out on this vehicles window. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The repairs will be at owner's cost.
The driver's side window came off track and ended up in the bottom of the door. In the process, the clips which hold the glass on broke off, the glass broke, and the window regulator broke. This is not the first problem I have had with this window, but by far the most expensive to repair.
I own a 2003 olds Alero. Right after the warranty ended, both back windows fell and wont' stay up. Took it to dealer and they wanted $620. 00 to repair them. I could not afford it and declined repair. I was then charged $90. For the diagnosis and they put tape on them! now all the car thieves can see the tape or the window down and help themselves. This is outrageous! I own 3 gm autos and have a gm rewards card with rewards discount towards my next purchase that I was planning in the near future. But after the poor quality and poor service practices, I feel taken advantage of. I have discovered that a lot of other owners have had the same problem. I expect gm to stand behind their products and will not buy anymore autos from them until they do.
The window fell out of my driver side door. The entire window assembly had to be replaced. This happened as soon as my warranty expired. The company that fixed my window had (3) other Oldsmobile Aleros at the same time with the same problem. This should not happen to a new car - it cost me $500 to fix-I can't go without a window!!.
The consumer stated that all four windows have fallen out. The consumer has a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. The consumer has taken the car to the dealership and had the windows checked. The dealer told her that she would have to pay for the repairs. The manufacturer was contacted, and there was no free repair available. The consumer has not had the vehicle repaired. This has been a problem for a month. These are electric windows.
2001 Alero (2 dr. Coupe) I have been on several sites and am finding many Alero owners having the same problems that I have encountered over the last couple of years. Fuel pump, wheel hub assemblies, intake manifold gaskets, power window failure(grinding/breaking clips/regulators), serv engine and traction control lights constantly on, electrical problems, brake problems etc. It is my belief that olds knew they weren't making this car anymore, and sent a sub-par product out into the market "hoping" to get away with as few recalls as possible. I have numerous complaints filed with olds and general motors. General motors has gone way out and offered me a $500. 00 certificate towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Give me one reason I should go through another nightmare like this one. Recalls have never been issued on any of these complaints because it would probably cost millions of dollars for them to fix the problems. I constantly wait to see if any class action suits involving these vehicles occurs as I will be one of the first to jump in. What's the saying. . . "if it looks like dog crap and smells like dog crap don't step in it, it's probably dog crap". There's a defined problem with these vehicles and gm should be taking responsibility for them.
I have a 2001 oldmobile Alero with automatic windows. I have had to replace 3 of the 4 windows due to the motor going out causing the window to not roll up or down. I am waiting for the 4th window to break.
Power window went out-driver side- had it replaced -- back to windows have no power- held up by tape- driver window no longer operating-.
The driver and passenger windows constantly short circuit so they can not be opened. The driver window sounds like it is off track and has trouble closing. The passenger window stops working for no reason. The motors have been replaced by the dealer but the motor stopped working again. It would be nice to be able to roll down the window.
1-the driver's side window does not move. 2-the window started to work sporadically then it began to happen more often and finally stopped all together going up and down. 3-no steps have been taken as of yet.
Bought this 2003 olds Alero in 2005 with original warranty still in force, also purchased extended warranty. This vehicle had dash peeled back and material over glove box peeled when purchased, also cracked plastic on back passenger side. Molding around windshield was coming off and has since blown away. Had to purchase battery almost immediately and 4 new tires after purchase. Contacted dealership where purchased to get interior items repaired and was informed they did not do warranty work on this brand of vehicle, that I would have to call another dealer who sold this type of car. I did and was told that none of these repairs were covered under warranty. Also, running lights only one was working, found out it had been fixed and the bracket under which held the light was broken. Was told I would have to pay for all repairs out of pocket. Now 2008 and all items still broken since I did not have money to repair, also car pulls to left, and brakes are grinding. I have never had a vehicle that has this many problems before at least 75,000 miles. I would never recommend this car to anyone.
