I used my horn to let someone know that they were in my lane, and all of a sudden my horn was stuck. The window clips on my car broke off, as I have read of these same complaints of other 2003 Oldsmobile Alero owners. I believe that there are serious defects of these two parts, and gm will not issue a recall to fix these problems. Due to that fact, I am unable to pass inspection because my car has to have a working horn and my window must be able to move up and down. Also a third complaint, there is now coolant that is starting to leak into my oil, which from what I understand could cause a fire!!.

Both the driver and the passenger windows fell off the tracks, so I had a friend pry them up and he got the windows to stay up, but you could not use either window. I did not have the money to get the windows fixed for a while until I was finally able to afford to get the driver's window fixed in may 2008 which cost $385. 00. They replaced the regulator. On 12/4/2008, it happened yet again to the driver's side window and the warranty was only good for 60 days labor/30days parts, so I am yet again not able to use either window. I was told by quite a few people that this is a very common problem and that if I got it fixed yet again, it would probably happen yet again. I did not see this defect listed on the recall list however.

Drivers side window on my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero fails to roll up. I have checked on the internet and there a "many" complaints regarding this same problem, in addition to the eleven (11) NHTSA and service bulletins you already have on this same problem. This is a safety hazard.

Our drivers side window started making a funny noise and then it fell into the door. We took it in and they said the bracket that holds it onto the motor was broken, and we had to buy a whole new motor. So we replaced it in August 2007. It started giving us problems again in April 2008. The part is now totally broken and we are again replacing the motor and brackets. In the meantime we have had the exact same problem with our passengers side window. We hardly ever roll down our windows and are very upset to have experienced this problem with 3 separate units.
Purchased 2003 Alero in 2004, 2nd one (I loved the first one), with 32k miles. Vinyl over passenger airbag was peeling - dealer fixed at no cost - now in 2010 it peeled off completely. At 39k had to replace the ignition cylinder. One of the front drivers side window bracket broke - waiting for the window to fall into the door. At about 50k the turn signal clicking starting without using the signals & is still do it today. I have not tried to fix it because I have read so many thing on the internet about cost & that it was recalled on older Alero models. It has finally gotten to the point that the signals only work part time and I have to turn on the hazards to get the turn signal to work - accident causing I think so. The plastic around the gear shift that lights up at night now gets hot enough to hurt if touched. I am very disappointed that gm won't help so many people that have put money and faith in their product. I think gm just doesn't want to deal with the olds products. If it was a problem then and there are so many complaints now then it must still be a problem. I personally will not recommend a gm vehicle to anyone and will be going back to Ford.
The tires were defective. The tire pressure will not sustain. The tire pressure light stays on, and the consumer had to add air daily. The dealer refused to cooperate. The left front door body side was falling, the solder joints in the hazard warning flasher switch may crack, the coolant light had come on, there was an erratic sound when the ignition was first turned on, the driver window had a water leak, the left power window won't seal, the regulator was broken, and the key would get stuck in the ignition intermittently due to binding cylinder lock. I have had my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero since 2002. Within six months of having this car the ignition switch went bad and was unable to start the car and it had to be repaired. This was repaired by the dealer that I purchased it from because the company that was in charge of my extended warranty went bankrupt. Since then I have had to pay to replace a gasket in the engine that keeps engine coolant and engine oil from mixing together because the gasket that was manufactured with the car was not the right thickness. (since this is a known defect by mechanics why wasn't this recalled or a service bulletin initiated?) I continue to have problems with the driver door control panel that controls the windows and the side mirrors and window locks. The windows in my car can only be controlled by the driver because the window lock is stuck in the "on" position. I have also had problems with the windows falling down into the door and have had one window replaced in December 2007 but now in September 2008 the passenger window is experiencing the same symptoms and now will have to replace this window as well. Right now the most annoying thing about this car is the turn signals. They function as they should but the clicking noise for the turn signal will not turn off when I have made a turn (it actually makes a clicking noise about 3 times as fast as the regular turn click). I have had this looked at by a mechanic and I was told that this was not part of the hazard light recall which my car falls under so it was not fixed. It is a very distracting problem and the only time I can get relief from the clicking noise is when I actually get ready to make a turn by turning on the actual turn signal. There are a number of problems that numerous owners are experiencing. I am hoping that some thing is done about the windows and the engine gasket. I don't think consumers should be responsible for poor engineering and design. Gm should make things right.
The brake rotors had to be replaced twice because the brakes wear very fast replaced brakes 4 times since I bought the car in August of 2001 even if there the lifetime warranty brakes. The drivers door window motor has to be replaced. Driver window keeps coming off track causing the window to fall. The interior light fell out and had to be put back. The low tire air pressure light, and others keep coming on and staying on even if the work has been done. The back window has a wire type defrost in the window itself that has burned in once place only leaving a burned look on the back window. The cruise control went out a week after I had the vehicle which I bought the vehicle at 30, 000 miles. The passenger side view mirror shatter going the a roadway about 35 miles an hour, almost causing eye damage to a very young child if I hadn't roll the window up in time due to child being seated in the back seat in a child seat. The mirror shattered in very tiny pieces for no apparent reason.
