1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora

Failure Date: 05/10/2001

The vehicle has been to the dealer on more than 3 occasions with the same complaint. The car engine simply turns itself off. The incidents occur 99% of the time after the car has been driven at highway speed for at least 20-30 minutes. Then when the car first comes to a complete stop (I. E. A stop sign or light) the engine simply shuts off. The car is not idling hard. No other indication exists. The engine is so quiet that often you don't realize its turned itself off until you step on the gas and realize that's it not running. When it stops, the engine light comes on. 95% of the time the car will start back up immediately (after putting car in park). Occasionally you must attempt to start it more than once. This has occured over several years. Most recently it is occuring weekly (not every day) and has occured in both winter and summer weather. The engine does not appear to run hot or cold. Change of brand of gasoline does not appear to change outcome. Amount of gas in tank does not appear to be a factor. When put on the diagnostic machine, no fault appears.
