1 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 11/09/2012

2002 olds Bravada (which we have owned since 9/2004) was being driven by my teenage son (with 3 other kids in the vehicle), as he left a stop sign, the frame of the vehicle broke loose from the body, separating the control arms from the frame and dropping the rear of the vehicle. He was traveling approximately 20mph at the time of incident. He managed to get to the side of the road where the vehicle came to rest in a ditch, a semi-safe distance from traffic. The vehicle was towed 11/10/12am to a nearby gm dealership. The estimated cost of repair begins at nearly $7000. , which would exceed the vehicles value. The gm dealership, to which the vehicle was towed, has advised us not to repair the vehicle as it would be too extensive. To further that statement, the gm dealership has discouraged us to even obtain a full and accurate quote as this would take too much time for a vehicle that should never see the road again, agreeably. To quote both the tow truck driver and the general service manager of the gm dealership; "they have never seen a vehicle with an issue such as this. " repeated attempts to report this to gm have failed. In efforts to minimize personal opinions from this post, I will only say this is utterly unacceptable on the part of gm, and a safety hazard to unsuspecting customers.

2 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 01/31/2006

Transmission problems, windshield wipers not working, headlights not working, awd problems, cooling system problems, fuel pump, control arm & ball joint problems are just some of the major safety issues on 96-99 gm blazers, Bravada's, & jimmys. These problems should really be looked into and recalled. Most problems starting right after warranty expired. Can't believe gm is getting away with this. Transmission went bad at 71000 miles and dealer says that they know there was a defect with the transmissions also problem (code 1870) but they will not cover the repair.

3 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 04/22/2003

1999 Oldsmobile Bravada - front left control arm ball joint broke. Result in front suspension collapsing. Top of tire went inward. My vehicle was built in may 1999 at general motors plant in moriane, ohio. Research on the internet show this problem has existed on this and similar gm vehicles since 1996. A recall was done on them. (gm recall bulletin ? subject 01048a ? upper ball joint separation issued October, 2001) (also reference odi action number rq02-012) however I called Oldsmobile (1-800-222-1020) and they said no recall on my car was issued. I was told recalls are done on individual cars, not lots of cars, as I would have expected. Further research show cars in this part of the county where salt is used on roads in the winter have a high probability of this problem developing. Since this problem has existed for 8 year I feel this should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to engineer a solution, especially since this is a known problem. Nhtsa needs to do a complete investigation for the publics safety. Had I been traveling on a highway when this broke this could have been another Ford explorer rollover fiasco. When I called Oldsmobile and asked if I could talk to the regional manager for this area the person I talked to said the regional managers do not talk to the general public. What kind of public relations is that?.

7 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 09/17/2000

While driving into the setting sun in a parking lot I struck a3 inch curbing at approximately 10 mph. A large flag pole was slightly scraped with the left fender causing some minor damage. The left front ball joint separated from the lower control arm causing the tie rod end to snap and left front wheel to collapse. The car traveled approximately 1 1/2 car lengths before stopping without use of the brakes. The only skid marks were from the now sideways tire and from the dragging undercarrige bolts. There is no reason that this minor impact should have cuased this type of damage. The rivets connecting the ball joints had sheared off. This car has never been driven off road or abused in any way. If this had occured at highway speed after hitting a pot hole I would likely have lost complete control of the car. Our olds dealer told me that it was "not their problem".

10 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada

Abs system - in my opinion, the abs is too sensitive. On several occasions the abs activated causing my stopping distance to increase. Twice on bumpy surfaces while hard braking I came close to a collision, and in my 20 years of driving experience I know that I would not have that scare with vehilces not equiped with abs. Contacted manufacturer on best way to disconect, their only comment was, "we don't recommend disconnecting the abs system. " you have a case #ea94038 on abs. Transmission - on 3 occasions I had my engine light come on and each time the code retrieved was p1870, transmission slippage. I spoke to a transmission repair shop and they gave me an estimate of $1,600. 00 to repair of $2,300. 00 to replace with gm 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. I found a service bulletin NHTSA# sb052584 with similar discussion. My truck is drivable for short distances so I have not committed to any repairs yet. Ball joints - you have an action # ea99022 with similar discussion. I replaced both upper & lower ball joints on both sides earlier this year due to excessive play during routine inspection performed by myself. If a recall takes place, gm should be liable for at least the cost of the parts for those who already repaired their vehilces. Thank you.
