3 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 02/02/2006

On 11 Apr 2005, I purchased a 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada from a nh dealer, with approx. 74000 miles on it. Within one week, the vehicle was returned for a bad water pump, and driver's window switch. During the week of 21 April, I had the alternator replaced. This vehicle had a nh state inspection sticker, but it has yet to pass a MA state inspection. The air injection pump that assists in the air/fuel mix has been updated by gm, but their "update" allows them to call it something other than a recall, so, it would cost me an additional $400-500. For this "update". In Sep of 2005, I noticed a gradually growing noise from the front end. I was told the entire front end was wiped out. The safety issues alone were exhaustive. The following had to be replaced, and were done, to the cost of $1700. : pitman arm / idler arm / upper, lower ball joints / cv joints,axles,boots/ entire front hub assemblies / front brakes (rotors, pads, calipers) / 4 tires currently, the driver's front door is sagging due to poor door pins and bushings. Maaco wants $1200. To replace the hinges, pins, and bushings, and repair/replace the striker plate and surrounding area. The directional signal sounds constantly even without using the signal, and goes away when you step on the brake (!?) the key frequently gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out. Last month yet another alternator had to go in as the other failed. I had this back in the shop yesterday 01feb06 for a banging sound coming from the front end, and the technician advised me that he called gm. They confirmed there is a defective front torsion bar in these blazer-type vehicles. The technician stated it would cost me around $250. It never ends. I am truly exhausted both mentally and financially with this car. Please provide any assistance you can. The dealer won't take it back, will not assist, and gm does not want anything to do with me. They won't even take my call. I truly fear for my and my family's safety.

4 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 11/03/2004

I had been experiencing excessive vibration on the front end of my 1997 old's Bravada. I took it in and was told it required ball joints but apparently there is a NHTSA campaign id # of 01i018000 in reference to it and that gm had decided to conduct a customer satisfaction campaign to replace them for a peiod of 8yr's or 100,000 miles whichever comes first from the date the vehicle was placed in service. Well, I did that and was told after a total run around as well as the service garage going thru the run around as well calling on it, that it does not affect my 97' old's Bravada. So here I am with a truck that is under the stated time of repair by gm with front end work that will cost me over $800. 00 to fix and gm does not care. So what was the purpose of having a campaign on the vehicle if gm had not intention of doing anything about it? the service guy at the garage even asked the rep. From gm, "so am I supposed to let the guy drive off with the bad balljoints so his wheels fall off and possibly creating an accident?" she did not respond and said there is nothing they will do. So in the meantime I have a truck that I can not drive much for fear of the wheels falling off, unless I pay for the work to do so. So what was the point of the compaint when gm intended on doing nothing about it? I have had nothing but problem after problem since I bought this car from the dealer a couple of months back and will never buy a gm product as long as I live again. I should have just stayed with my Toyota.

Failure Date: 04/15/2004

At 80,000 miles I had to have the trasmission replaced. At the time I inquired about the ball joints recall. Dealership told me there was no such recall. 6 months later I took it in because of a clunking sound under the car. They told me I need a new drive shaft, transfer case and ball joints for a total of $3747. 00! it's not safe to drive and I don't have that kind of money to fix it. Has been a lemon from the start.

9 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 12/08/2003

Oldsmobile, Bravada, 1996. Had to replace both upper ball joints on the front suspension. GMC has a recall for these components. Nhtsa campaign id # 01v200000. GMC refused to repair. Their recall is for vehicles with VIN #'s t2705034-t2708364 (last eight digits) my VIN # is t2710395. The ball joints are obviously failing in other vehicles than those they listed.

10 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

Failure Date: 11/03/2003

I purchased my 1998 Bravada 4/02 and since then have had nothing but problems. The upper and lower ball joints have been replaced twice (they were replaced and approx 2 weeks later I was having the same problems again and I was told the parts were "faulty"). I had the same problems with the brakes--had them fixed , then had problems again, took it back and again it was blamed on "faulty" parts. The brakes still squeak badly, so I'm sure I will hear again that I had "faulty" parts. The tread on the front tires wore unevenly (they were pro-rated 80,000 mile tires and after less than 3,000 miles the inner edges were completly bald). So of course, the tires were supposedly "faulty". The ignition module goes out every 6 months with out fail. The ignition will stick in the lock position and the key cannot be removed unless you force it which results in the Bravada being able to be started without the key. I was told there was a memo put out on this part, but no recall. These are only the repairs that have had to be repeatedly done. I am really begining to wonder if maybe the truck is "faulty" and not the parts. Also, I refuse to take the truck to the olds dealership. I think there moto is "it isn't our problem", and if it isn't, maybe it should be because they say it enough. And lets be honest--yes Oldsmobile, it is your problem. You maufactured these vehicles and now many, many people are paying for them. Maybe they should stand up and actaully start taking responsibility for it. Anyone else agree?.
