I have a 2002 GMC safari van. The heater core is located in the front of the passenger compartment. It is covered by an uninsulated plastic cover, which when the heater is on gets extremely hot. My wife accidently touched it with her leg and burned herself. I have been having the car serviced by a Chevrolet dealership which is more convenient to me. They claimed it was working correctly. I took it, at there request to a GMC dealership, at my own expense in albany, NY and they claimed it was designed that way and they could do nothing about it. GMC refuses to do anything about it, claiming it was working properly and that was the design. This is definitely a design flaw which is easily correctable. GMC case # 1-343963559.

Temp gauge showed that enging was overheating. Followed procedures in owner's manual for overheating. Continued to overheat when driving longer distances. Took it to dealer who flushed out radiator/cooling system twice. 3rd time informed that coolant had turned to brown slush and entire radiator system needed replacing.

The heater has failed to work this year at all. The system was flushed and radiator fluid changed with Oldsmobile rated fluids. This vehicle has had no major problems and has been good other than seatbelts not locking and dome lights are inoperable. I am going to assume it could be the heater valve and get that replaced so hopefully that does the trick.
At 65 mph engine suddenly died. Took vehicle to a mechanic and they replaced radiator. Please provide any further informtion.
Vehicle overheated and temperature gauge went to the top, engine began to make noises, dealer found that radiator was full of bad coolant and very muddy, the mud was clogging the radiator which caused loss of coolant flow and overheated condition, the radiator was replaced, flushed engine block and heater core of muddy coolant, and thermostat and radiator cap was replaced.
