Four problems related to steering linkages have been reported for the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The steering linkage and left front suspension showed laud noise of grinding and clunking friction at low speed and during turning, mostly toward the left side. The left front wheel seemed to move loosely during these movement, too. Dealer diagnosed and replaced the defective intermediate geer shaft at the owner's expense. The problem seemed to have reduced.
Problems with rattle and vibration from steering wheel assembly. Feels as though steering could fail.
1. Rear seat belt sometimes locks and won't pull out 2. Anti-lock brakes make loud ratcheting noise and temporarily activate upon starting car, causing what feels like a temporary lack of braking - dealer has not attempted to fix saying it is normal. 3. Intermediate steering shaft has failed twice causing noticible "clunking" noise - dealer has replaced twice under warranty, who will pay the next time? 4. Left rear window sometimes fails to operate.
Steering linkage seems loose, especially on turns. Vibration noticeable in steeling wheel when brakes applied. Similar to symptoms repoted in NHTSA defect summary. Plan to take to dealer for resolution.
