The headlights flicker/dim with no apparent strain on the system by other sources. Our warranty work has been done at biddulph arrowhead, peoria az 623-933-3900 as it is closer than the selling dealer. They have replaced the alternator 3 times with no positive results. It is annoying and distracting to the driver & oncoming traffic. Please contact them!.
Headlights flickered off and on, would not stay on at night. Had at least one flash (off then on within one second period) every time I drove in the dark. One time it flashed continuously. Affected all electrical components. I notified dealer and also called Oldsmobile. Dealer replaced the alternator, said the problem was due to low voltage when an air pump near the alternator turned on.
The headlights dim and/or flicker. The engine power decreases when it happens. The alternator was replaced at 32,00 miles. The problem occurs intermittently. There is no particular pattern related to weather or driving conditions.

Consumer stated that while driving the headlights intermittenly dim themselves resulting in poor visibility when needed. Mr.
Without warning headlights have a constant flicker, resulting in headlights dimming while drivng at night.
While driving at night, consumer states headlights dim and flicker, consumer was informed that it is caused by the air pump engaging and that is a normal condition, as of August 1, 2001 problem still exists.
Automatic headlights dim/flicker to the point that oncoming turning drivers think I am giving them the high beams to go ahead and turn in my path. I nearly had one high speed head on collision due to this problem. The defect seems to be related to street lamps and ambient lights.
While driving at night a malfunction occurred within headlight assemebly which caused headlights to completely turn off, cause unknown. Dealer replaced alternator twice due to a service bulletin, dealer also found on one occasion that the bolt for the battery ground cable had bottomed out in the block not allowing cable to ground consistently, dealer also found that when the air pump engages the lights dim, consumer was told by the dealer that the lights flickering is normal, however consumer states the lights come on and off as they please. Noise heard from the rear, dealer found right rear tire cupped badly, consumer did not give any specific tire inforamtion.
While driving headlights will dim down and come back up. Also, this happens with air conditioning, it will slow down and speed up. Dimming of the headlights may send wrong signals to another driver.
Headlights/interior lights dim intermittently. Same problem I had with 2000 Intrigue-gm replaced.
Headlights and lights inside vehicle will dim to a very low light when weather gets cold. Contacted dealer ,and dealer was not able to do anything about the problem.
Headlights and interior lights flicker and sometimes go out for 1 sec or more. I feel this is a safty issue. When driving at night. The alternator has been replaced several times. The dealer is aware of service bulletin 01-06-03-001a that was issued by gm for this problem, but the problem still exists. Does someone need to be killed before something is done. This is clearly a design flaw that shoud be corrected by gm. Dt.
I own a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue and while driving down the road the headlights will go dim to the point of almost being off. Not only is this dangerous to me and my family of 4 it is dangerous to others driving towards me. I have taken this back to the dealership where I have bought it on several occasions and the problem still remains after 2 alternators and a computer was replaced. They did however find that the problem is a sensor for the antilock braking system, it is some sort of sensor that detects when a wheel isnt turning fast enough and it kicks a motor in that makes it catch up causing the loss of power to the lights, thus causing them to dim. They said it has been recalled for the same problem in the bravada, s10, GMC envoy, jimmy and sonoma. They said it is service bulletin cqb00-18. It states that the ebcm loses a wheel speed sensor signal and it will activate the abs motor monentarily, since the motor may draw up to 100 amps the lights will dim or flicker during the cycle. The brakes do not have to be applied for this condition to happen. The loss of signal could be caused by faulty wiring, a bad wheel speed sensor or sensor ring or air gap (worn brakes). None of these have been repaired on my vehicle because they stated that this did not apply to my vehicle and they could not repair it even though that the same problem exist in over 200,000 Intrigues of the same year. I would greatly appreciate you looking into this matter and making the dealerships reapir this problem by issuing a service bulletin.
The orignal bulb was replaced and within a few hours the light malfunction again. When I removed the bulb the bulb was partially singed and melted . The same was true each time the bulb was replaced.
The headlights filcker at various times and this alternator has been replaced 3 times. The dealer has done all that they can, but the alternator failure is a design flaw with the 3. 5l engine. I have been told that this is not a major problem, but the 'flickering' has become more regular and seems to happens for a longer duratation. I look forward to a solution from gm on this.
While driving at night time and turning on air conditioning or when turning on heater, headlights go out. No prior warning. Contatced dealer, and dealer said that " it's a normal condition, and that the problem cannot be resolved. ".
Headlights flicker intermittently while driving. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 4 times, cannot remedy the problem.
Ongoing problem with head lights intermittently glowing up and down. Vehicle been in / out of dealer's shop on three occasions, and problem still occurring. Please provide any further details on this matter.
Headlights flicker to dim; then, they go to bright and back to dim. Also, all window motors have been replaced.
Headlights dim and brighten at unexpected times. Unable to duplicate on demand. Dealer cannot find problem.
My 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue has an ongoing problem with all interior lights that operate when the headlights are on. The headlights as well as the dash lights, dome light, trunk light, etc all flicker/dim dramatically and intermittently and at the same time whenever they feel like it. It has been attempted to be repaired 5 times by the dealer, and is now at the Oldsmobile tech assistance level. Parts such as the dealer module and the alternator have been replaced to no avail. Olds is saying that there is an existing tac case #3668071 for other 1999 Intrigues experiencing the similar problem across the us, but no fix is available. All the while, I am being told to drive the car and be patient. I am concerned about driving at night as these lights may someday just not flicker, but totally go out! olds has not offered any info other than that they are working on this at the engineering level, and that they suspect it is a computer problem that needs a software fix. I am just upset that I spent thousands of dollars on something that I feel is potentially very unsafe! and getting worse. Any assistance rendered would be greatly appreciated!.
Power surges when consumer hears the fan motor . Then vehicle would be slowing down. Also, when consumer has headlights on at night, they get brighter and dimmer when he applies the accelerator.
The computer-controlled exterior lighting system does not allow the headlights to be selected "off" when it senses darkness. This presents several problems. Among them are blinding deck personnel when embarking/debarking ferryboats, creating security concerns when entering/leaving military bases, and the perception of a head-on collision threat by other drivers when vehicles are on the "wrong" shoulder of a road at night (picking up mail, etc. ). It is also an extreme annoyance at drive-in movies. In some situations, it could provoke a "road-rage" response from other drivers, resulting in potential fatalities. I believe that this is a classic case of automation that's "run amuk". It is the result of engineers/computer geeks who are allowed to operate without adult supervision. Automation is fine, but it must always have manual over-rides. The Intrigue's designers arrogantly (and incorrectly) decided that they know what's best for drivers. Fwiw, I am not a technophobe. Our home has 5 pc's that are used regularly, plus a few others. I am an airline pilot, flying the boeing 757/767, which is equipped with a sophisticated flight management system. I am the air line pilots association's "national expert" on flight management systems, representing them in national safety forums. I am a staunch advocate of using the appropriate level of technology. Oldsmobile designers did not use an appropriate level of technology. Their arrogance and stupidity is appalling. I ask that the NHTSA direct gm to issue a recall of all affected automobiles, replacing the current exterior lighting system with one that allows manual over-rides of all automation modes.
Can't override automatic head lights and dim or turn off lights at night.
The headlights will intermittently flicker/flash. This is especially noticeable when the air conditioner is engaged.
Headlights operate poorly.
Headlights continually dim and brighten while driving. Took car to dealer (downtown olds, warren, ohio) and they said nothing wrong could be found. ).
The headlights will "flicker" while driving, doesn't matter what speed. This was reported to the dealership while under the warranty period. At that time, the service technician stated that he was aware of this problem and that the only thing that he could do was to replace the alternator, but didn't think it would completely correct the problem. The alternator was replaced and it did not correct the problem. My vehicle does not have any additional "after market" equipment installed that could be causing a "strain" on the electrical system.
Headlights flicker from dim to bright to dim to bright. Will occur every week or so for 5-30 minutes of constant flickering.
When driving headlights flicker from bright to dim until they finally just shut off. Dealer has been contacted.
