1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue - this car has been nothing but trouble since the first day I purchased it. The rack and pinion steering had to be replaced, this did not correct the problem with loose steering, along the car losing power steering and stalling. I have been driving on the interstate at 50-60 miles an hour, the car will cut off on you. I make a habit to drive in the right lane, so that I can pull over and stall out on the side of the road. I try and stay off the interstate because if a truck or bad driver is behind me that could really cause problems (accident/death). I have had major mechanical repairs done to this car, nothing helps. I can not afford to at this moment get another car but as soon as I am able I am going to get rid of it. General motors should not have been allow to sell this type of dangerous product to the public. These incidents are still going on problem. The latest being yesterday, I suddenly lost my power steering while driving.
Reduced power steering at low speeds, especially when turning left.
My power steering has not worked for about 3-4 weeks now; it feels very tight. I read the NY times article (6/7/02) about this problem and made calls to the dealer about this, but they haven't heard anything about this issue yet. I've made an appointment for 6/13 to have it looked at, but even with my service warranty, they can't guarantee it will be covered by the manufacturer even though this is obviously a manufacturer's defect.
Vehicle will stall out and power steering will go out, as well as other componets. Contacted dealer.
Our 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue has on several occasions lost the power steering. It seems to happen when slowing down or stopping. It is just for a moment, then it is normal again.
While driving power steering gave out, and consumer ended up running into a field. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything. Rack and pinion assembly locked up could not turn.
Steering column began making clunking noise at 8265 and at 11015 miles, intermediate steering shaft was replaced. At 16342 noises began again and at 19438, power steering gear assembly replaced and front strut bolts tightened. At 19545 clunk led to tightening of all control arm bolts. Clunk still exists.
Consumer states when engine is started and backing out movement, consumer hears a click in the front brakes. When driving no problem,. Dealer contacted, and stated this was a factory design flaw. Problem still exists. *akthe click is becoming more & more noticeable after you move forward or backward, consumer also stated that transmission feels like it clunks when shifting from reverse to drive, also power steering was replaced.
When making a left hand turn steering became hard ,next to impossible to turn due to failure of power steering gear. Steering was fine when making a right hand turn. Please provide further information.
I've had my car for service twice complaining about a groaning noise in the steering. This noise is most prevalent after turning the wheel hard. The service dept. At the dealership said this is normal in power steering. I've owned p. S. Cars for years and never heard those sounds. Someone I know with an Intrigue with the same problem was told it was the intermediate steering and they've ordered a part for her to repair the car.
When making a left turn steering wheel binds. When this occurs it's almost impossible to steer.
