Steering Rack And Pinion Problems of Plymouth Breeze

Rack and pinion steering gear crunching noise. 45. 000 miles due to lengthy research it appears that there are serious defects in the steering system of many daimler Chrysler vehicles. After 27 years of experience with 14 vehicles (mostly gm and Ford) I have never had as many drivetrain/suspension/steering failures as with this Plymouth Breeze. The real problem is that Chrysler does not take responsibility (financial responsibility) for potentially life threatening defects. They should issue a recall and pay for the parts and labor and then find suppliers who know what they are doing. I consider the Breeze unusable at highway speeds, such as anything over 30 mph. For having such a beautiful design this situation is just sad. Please forward this to Chrysler as I am in the process of starting a small claims court case. If you can forward this to Chrysler please tell them that we just want reliable transportation, not having our lives at stake. You see - if you hit a tree or something solid - all of the evidence against them is gone. Wake up consumers - read the vehicle reports before you buy. Beauty must be more than skin deep.

Customer states there is noise in the front end when turning both ways and over bumps, dealer replaced rack and pinion and replaced rack and pinion.

Heard a squeaking noise coming from the front end, also could be felt in the steering wheel. Dealer said it was the sway bar links and ball joint, could result in control lost. To no avail these repairs did not solve the problem. Second opion said it was the steering rack. Replace right side mirror.

While traveling approx 50mph a pop was heard from beneath driver's feet. Continuous popping was heard and felt through the steering wheel. Popping occurred daily after approx. 10 minutes of driving. Local dealer test drove to locate problem and inspected vehicle and advised that the power rack and pinion needed to be replaced. Car is barely 2 years old and has not been driven harshly. Dealers in area stated they have several vehicles of this make/model having same problems and they are making many repairs to rack and pinion.

Rack and pinion failure, head gasket failure.

Past hx:air condioning compressor/rackinpinion steering/head gasket and fuel pump malfunctioned.

Rack and pinion noise when turning to the right.

There is excessive vibration in the steering wheel. Dealer cannot repair. In addition, there is a forward lunging when slowing to a stop/replaced broken motor mount/broken alternator bolt/sensor for idle/rack and pinion steering/head gasket/exhaust leak due to loose bolts and broken power steering cap.
