Two problems related to automatic transmission cooler have been reported for the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Transmission fluid leak was noticed and vehicle was taken in for investigation to the charlie zook dealership located in sioux city, IA. After their investigation they stated there was a crack in the transmisison casing causing the leak. They stated would not be able to determine what caused the crack until they were able to drop the transmission and ivestigate further. The dealer did state they contacted Chrysler and since the vehicle was no longer under warrenty, but was so close to it, they would do complete repair for a deductable of 250. 00. After the dealer dropped the transmission they stated that the transmision had extensive damage and needed a complete replacement. They asked if we had heard a bang while driving, as a piece had broke causing the crack in the casing. They stated that was only a matter of time till complete transmission failure due to the damaged that had been caused by the first part failure.
I was slowing vehicle as I approached a stop sign. At about 20m. P. H. I heard a very loud "bang". I pulled to the shoulder of the road and observed transmission fluid leaking onto the ground. Vehicle was towed to dealership where it was purchased and a loaner was provided. Mechanic discovered quater-sized hole in transmission caused by unknown part being propelled through case. Chrysler refuses to cooperate with me or dealer. This is obviously a manufacture flaw which could have resulted in injury to myself, family or other driver if location or speed were different.
